Hiby is another brand that does things THEIR WAY. And this Little baby is the proof. Good job from them and good review from you!👍

First R-2R ladders with FPGA (RS6), now transistors biased into Class-A operation, I'm wondering what's cooking next :)

Bro... Great review. Thanks! And can I just say, your command of English (not just vocabulary, but your ability to deliver off the cuff/extemporaneously during your presentation) is truly amazing! Impressive for sure.

if my 10 year old granddaughter can pick my r5 up and use it. Hiby have made a player that is not easy to use and get on with, but one that sounds truly remarkable for a mid range unit.

Excellent review. Your review solidify my decision to get Hiby R5 Gen 2 after a lot of consideration of available options. R5ii class A amp opens up old school dynamic driver headphone like my Ultrasone HFI 780 to become a very balanced headphone that even today's market available headphones couldn't match.

Do you know if gapless playback truly works on this device? I’ve seen posts about issues regarding this topic with Hiby and can’t seem to find updated information. I listen to a lot of live music, ie Phish, GD, jazz, etc so this is very important to me.

    • @Soundnews

M11 Plus has a faster SoC, so everything loads faster and moves snappier. It's also a little cleaner and more transparent sounding, while R5 offers a nicer kick in the bass and midrange. Depends on who you ask, but I like the sound of R5 a little bit more.

M17 is in another league - sounds more like combining a really well made D/S DAC with something like a Benchmark HPA4. It's dead neutral, but super clean and over-powerful. R5 provides a very different type of sound, that's thicker, warmer and more "musical" in a way.
