My biggest complain with the Sonic the Hedgehog movies is that they barely use any of the videogames music, when they have AMAZING themes. I am super glad they actually adapted a bunch of themes from the whole franchise for the Mario movie. I loved it.
That was DEFINITELY one of my biggest complaints as well. I would LOVE for the computers to incorporate the Sonic music from the games into the soundtrack in future movies' soundtracks. They better be taking notes from this!

I’m honestly super impressed with how they transformed a repetitive and arcady theme that was supposed to loop after a short amount of time into one of the most grandiose and epic themes in the movie
One thing I’ll always respect Nintendo for is how they are loyal to their old music, I know it’s still the same series but some games don’t even remaster old songs and instead do completely new soundtracks. This movie was such a masterpiece ❤

This is amazing! I didn’t recognize them at first but glad to find out some Odyssey songs were referenced! There are a few songs that you missed that haven’t been pointed out yet! Near the final part of Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom before the reference of King Bowser’s theme from Mario Galaxy the P-Switch song also plays and after the same King Bowser theme the music from when you begin a level in Mario Galaxy also plays!

my friend and i have been wondering what happens if you play the main leitmotif from the movie. It works so well with the established mario songs and theres certainly something going on with it we just can't figure it out.
I love that most of the songs were mixups and that’s what made it so unique. The second thing is the music isn’t just the old same music it’s new they made it sound different and modern which a slight remix

Towards the end of The Darklands, the Super Mario World Ghost House theme plays for a bit. It's kinda hard to hear in the middle of the chaos, but the strings really pronounce the repeating patterns that are in the intro of the original song.

I know! I was the only one out of those that I went to go see it with who had an amazing time with the soundtrack! I have to say that the starman theme, the overworld theme, hammer bros from NSMBWII, MK8 Main Menu and Athletic from SMB3 gave me so much happiness and nostalgia! They were the only ones I knew at the time but still!
At the end of the Athletic themes in "Fighting Tooth and Veil" there's a short reference to Chill from Dr. Mario. You can even hear part of it in this video at 11:47
Bro I noticed almost every single one. Everytime I noticed one, I got so excited! The Mario movie was 10/10 for me. It was beyond my expectations. I can't wait for the second one!
Was so proud of myself when I listened to the soundtrack and recognised the Luncheon theme. Also, whenever I hear the first bit of the SNES Rainbow Road reference, I always think it feels more like the GBA Rainbow Road music. I know that opening to GBA Rainbow Road is a reference to SNES Rainbow Road anyway, but just not having a beat going through that section makes at least the first part of it feel more like the GBA version to me.
The very last snippet actually sounds like a quotation from Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, specifically the theme from Aase’s Death. I haven’t watched the movie, but it would make sense that a soundtrack composer would reference a composer who did a soundtrack for theatre. Actually, I’ve listened again to that snippet and I’m even more convinced it’s an homage to Grieg, because the whole feel right before the last three notes (i.e. the beginning of Aase’s Death theme when it’s played the second time, in a higher key) it is reminiscent of the even more famous In the Hall of the Mountain King, which is part of the very same play.
I saw the movie yesterday and somehow missed almost all of this. I kept waiting for the musical references but I kept not hearing them. Glad to see this video proved me wrong.
There was a lot more than I thought there were! Gonna have to watch the film again and listen even harder. During "Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom", the P-Switch theme from New Super Mario Bros. Wii plays before the King Bowser intro. I heard it while listening to the OST afterwards.
There’s a few notes of SMB’s underwater theme (when he walks past the Cheep Cheep) and some of SMB3’s card matching theme in Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom. I think we’ll be finding more and more references for years
i loved all the references and the soundtracks being put together so great…i grew up on watching my sister play all the mario games and later on playing them also. my childhood self would be so happy to find out that later on in the years they would make a mario movie

People complained there wasn’t enough video game music but like me, that’s cause you’d have to have VERY keen hearing. I definitely didn’t notice the majority of these.
Came back here after watching the movie. It was so much fun finding the Easter eggs and references in both the visuals and the music.
The fact that used music from the games reminds me of the fact that the the castlevina Netflix series used bloody tears (a song from the source material) in the final battle against Dracula.
Since it’s a Mario movie they gotta put all the music references on it that was amazing
The Darklands also has Deep Dark Galaxy in it too

The incorporation and remixing of each and every theme into the movie is amazing, just the soundtrack album alone makes every longtime fan’s heart flutter

Towards the end of The Darklands, the Super Mario World Ghost House theme plays for a bit. It's kinda hard to hear in the middle of the chaos, but the strings really pronounce the repeating patterns that are in the intro of the original song.
I knew I heard it too! I can’t wait for the whole movie to be available for everyone to disect. There’s just so many good stuff in it 😩
@@pinkywinky911 Same!! It was so hard to keep up with all of the references and I absolutely adore that fact. For now, at least, all of the musical references can be found with the soundtrack, which was absolutely my favorite part of the movie.
the fact they recreated soundtracks from almost all of the mario games is amazing (maybe even music from underrated media)
the mk8 main menu and super mario bros super show ones were the most unexpected

Much agreed, me and my family grew up with the games and we just bawled with the music and the visuals of the movie! PEAK CINEMA!
I know! I was the only one out of those that I went to go see it with who had an amazing time with the soundtrack! I have to say that the starman theme, the overworld theme, hammer bros from NSMBWII, MK8 Main Menu and Athletic from SMB3 gave me so much happiness and nostalgia! They were the only ones I knew at the time but still!
In "Superstars", You can hear a little bit of the Ending Theme of the original "Super Mario Bros.".
At the end of the Athletic themes in "Fighting Tooth and Veil" there's a short reference to Chill from Dr. Mario.

As soon as I heard the SNES Rainbow Road song kick in I knew we were about to head into the Rainbow Road segment and it was awesome.
1:05 The airship theme was cold as shit when I saw the movie in theaters

Was so proud of myself when I listened to the soundtrack and recognised the Luncheon theme.
Also, whenever I hear the first bit of the SNES Rainbow Road reference, I always think it feels more like the GBA Rainbow Road music. I know that opening to GBA Rainbow Road is a reference to SNES Rainbow Road anyway, but just not having a beat going through that section makes at least the first part of it feel more like the GBA version to me.

The very last snippet actually sounds like a quotation from Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, specifically the theme from Aase’s Death. I haven’t watched the movie, but it would make sense that a soundtrack composer would reference a composer who did a soundtrack for theatre.
Actually, I’ve listened again to that snippet and I’m even more convinced it’s an homage to Grieg, because the whole feel right before the last three notes (i.e. the beginning of Aase’s Death theme when it’s played the second time, in a higher key) it is reminiscent of the even more famous In the Hall of the Mountain King, which is part of the very same play.
Lots of music references and lots of easter eggs in the movie.

I saw the movie yesterday and somehow missed almost all of this. I kept waiting for the musical references but I kept not hearing them. Glad to see this video proved me wrong.

Hearing Gusty Garden Galaxy made me cry of nostalgia 😭 The Wii being my first video game console ever, this game was awesome!
Ohh. I will have to wait a Lot of time to hear the true Masterpiece of Buoy Base Galaxy on a Mario movie and see Rosalina there.
Holly cow, so many iconic music from Mario games and Donkey Kong made it into the film that so awesome.

During "Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom", the P-Switch theme from New Super Mario Bros. Wii plays before the King Bowser intro. I heard it while listening to the OST afterwards.

There’s a few notes of SMB’s underwater theme (when he walks past the Cheep Cheep) and some of SMB3’s card matching theme in Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom. I think we’ll be finding more and more references for years
The underwater theme also plays during Lumalee's introduction (slowed down).
i loved all the references and the soundtracks being put together so great…i grew up on watching my sister play all the mario games and later on playing them also. my childhood self would be so happy to find out that later on in the years they would make a mario movie
