    Thanks dad for the car repairs. Power, food, stove, groceries, 1 engine running. Need composting toilet. Sort out the rudders. Get the second engine running. Continue to build the deck, helm battery and gas storage secured. Progress to fixing the leaks, get bilge pumps going. Store parts, tools, spares, garbage in second canoe. Make the second canoe more water tight.
    Thanks Ola. Also now have more tools.

      Thank you everybody for your kind words. I can’t claim that helping Mark is truly ultraistic.
      As an older guy, we often complain about how the younger generation is without ambition and willingness to put in hard labor to accomplish difficult tasks. And here is Mark, putting in 16 hour days to achieve his dream, and provide us with amazing entertainment at the same time.
      His drive and ambition is a true inspiration to myself.
      I really just want him to succeed. 😅

    I know you've likely named the boat based on a fish, but in te reo Māori (the Māori language from Aotearoa / New Zealand) "Mahi" means "work", "to work", "to make" etc. Quite fitting really!

  • @izzzzzz6
    @izzzzzz6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    looks like the old alternator died because it had oil all over it, might be a split in the turbo pipe, best fix that or the new one might die.
    If you fit your row boat out with one of the outboards you could then find a parking spot much further away and motor to the project or car as needed.

    I hope you plan a rebuild of the entire motor mounting system. I saw another Wharram video where the motor mounting system rotated, bringing the motors up, well above the water, and were enclosed so the motors were out of the weather even when not in use.

    • @mwatkins2464
      @mwatkins2464 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it’s called a jack plate that raises the motor up and down. I think the motor is to high up out of the water, looks like it needs to go down into the water about 5” for the water pump to work better.

    Mate on your one engine that is not pumping water, take the cover off and check that the little outlet hole for the water is not blocked. Its a tiny hole that can easily get blocked if some dirt was sucked up by the impeller or if some old crud came loose inside the engine block. Check by poking a small nail or plastic tie wrap in the hole, if you use a nail or a screw driver be sure not to be too forcefull.
    Check that first before you go through the effort of buying and changing gaskets 🤙🤙🤙 you are making good progress!

    I have a 1992 Volvo 960 Estate wagon with nearly 300,000. Miles on it. I do all my own mechanical work on it. I bought it from my neighbor for a boat buck 1k, 4 years ago. Best money ever spent. I haul all my sailboat projects around inside of it. Sorry you are having trouble with your car. Bless your Dad for all his help. ⛵ 🇺🇸 S/V Cork ~ Texas

      Those early Volvos were built like Abrams tanks - but easy to fix. Sadly, that old saying "They don't build 'em like that any more" is completely true with Volvo.

    Dad to the rescue…. Your dad is an amazing guy. Your mom did well to bag him when he was younger.
