Maybe a catch is that I carry a lot, memories, ideas, goals, responsibilities, for instance at this moment I have four dogs that rescued and 4 cats, 8 kittens, and chickens.... On top of ideas, hobbies, projects, goals, chores, and downtime. I am looking for a best friend, who if I trip, can withstand all that, turn around help me up without buckling, and we can continue down the road together complimenting, inspiring, and helping each other.... So for many of those that don't see catches in me, I see catches in them and somewhere in there my imagination of the future possibilities is too much for them....

I think it's cool that you become so emotionally attached so soon. I think it's a good trait and that people should be that way but they're too afraid, guarded, and cautious. In fact, the fear, guardedness and overcaution is a huge cultural problem in America that most people don't recognize. It's gotten so bad that it boarders on collective insanity. I'm open and friendly myself, but I find a lot of people treat me like I'm some kind of criminal for it. It's really creepy to feel like I'm being dissected like that for not being unhealthily walled in. It's even creepier that that people wall themselves in so much.

Yeah as long as I don't let the stress of "what if this doesn't work out" it's all good. I never regretted getting attached fast. In tge best case it's accelerating the process of bonding with someone and at the worst it can scare away a person that hardly get attached, which is something you probably won't want in your life in the wrong run anyway (not saying there is anything wrong with reserved people, but if you like to get attached it can be very frustrating to deal with them and it's not that pleasant for them either).
Yeah, what is up with people being angry at things you pride yourself on just because it isn’t the norm?? We aren’t sheep, we’re people! We can have different opinions and traits, and that is okay! I am almost always really formal and grammatically correct when texting, and doing stuff like that, and my friends just rag on me for it sometimes. It’s hurtful, and unnecessary and people need to stop putting others down for stuff they like about themselves.

Do you seriously not see the danger involved becoming emotionally attached very quickly?
Take a dating relationship, if you go on three dates and instantly become heavily emotionally attached... You are engaging in a fake marriage, and you can expect the emotional fallout from the inevitable breakup (because all relationships end, except for one (your marriage) if you're very lucky)
Will be equivalent to a fake divorce.
Now I'm not saying that you should be aloof to the point of being disinterested... but I am saying moderation and emotional attachment is absolutely the correct model to follow.
it allows you to engage in emotional topics, without committing your entire heart to something that may very well end without warning and with toxic results.

i do this wierd thing where I have the LOWEST expectations POSSIBLE and convince myself they're real, so when something bad happens, I'll be like: I knew it. and if something good happens, I'll be like: yay!
Yeah... I try to do that most of the time. It doesn’t always work. It just makes life so much easier. Like you said, if something bad happens to you, you were already expecting it, so it’s not as bad, and when something good happens, it feels extra great because something good happened whe you didn’t expect it to.

When I was first going out in my early 20's I had unrealistic expectations to meet and hopefully pick up a great girl. When it doesn't eventuate I would dread going out. I realized this was negative thinking so now have no expectations except I will have fun. I hesitate less wanting to go out and aim to have fun, so much better.

Super agree! Sorry I'm a little bit late to the party. One thing I've found that helps me is if I find a really good solution to a problem, I honestly just write the problem and solution down. Eventually you end up with effectively a "user manual" for your own life, and when you come across a future problem, you can consult your manual to see how you solved it before (hell, even if you can't originally find a solution but you were able to find things that didn't work, now you know not to repeat those!)

With Korean dramas they usually tell you how many episodes it is before they are even out. Like “hey! This show premiering tomorrow, it will be 16 episodes” and I find that EXTREMELY comforting. Like I know what I’m signing up for. The plot has a definitive end from the beginning! No dragged out plots with filler episodes. Yup. Kdrama>>

The only part of it that I dislike is when I'm at episode 15 and realize it's gonna end soon and I don't want it to end yet lol.
I wish shows would go one step further and stick to a tight, 6-8 ep formula; one of the reasons the mini-series format is coming up in a big way.
Sure, but they write the story on the fly and often change key plot elements based on audience reaction.
The number of episodes is limited, but the writing never quite feels tight enough.
That is why One Piece, Naruto and Dragon Ball Z have so many episodes. Fillers. More fillings than a cavity stricken shark.

Also I learned awhile back (and I forget sometimes) that the best opportunities I've had, I couldn't have imagined them and they're better than I could've wished for. So sometimes it's a good thing that we don't get what we want bc our imagination has limits. Sometimes becoming attached to an imagined outcome can be limiting. Reframe becoming too attached as limiting yourself. Let things unfold as they will.
It's hard, I know. I'm still struggling, but this is something that helps me be patient.
Way too much relateble. But i just notice that this attachement of mine, especially towards people, which can quickly go into kind of obsession, pushes others away. So I'm constantly weighing out how much I can get attached, and how much should I keep the distance? But what if I distance myself too much? But what if I don't get close at all? So it has always been an continues battle for me to search that happy middle way. And I am still searching. So some day, I hope I can find that happy middle way. But it is good to know I'm not the only one!

@@kiysumi6731 It definitely has gotten better! But i'm still struggling with it. Sometimes in certain situations I don't know when to back off or when to get close. But more and more I found a way that works for me. Triall and error works a lot, and trust your friends! When you get too close, you will notice! Hang in there! I know it is tough, but trust yourself too! :)

I relate to this so much. Though for me it always happens in my love life - I'm not someone who falls in love often, but when I do then I am completely head over heels for the guy and I consequently have so many fantasies and sky high expectations, which obviously never get realized. It's a serious problem for me because the disappointment I experience from that is really not a good influence on my depression :')

When I was applying to USC, people would say things like "oh you're definitely getting in". I did get accepted and the same people said "see you should have been positive I told you!" and it wasn't that I was being negative about my chances..I was just being realistic but still slightly hopeful. Being overly positive wouldn't have changed my chances, it would only have increased my chances of feeling crushed if I didn't get accepted. And I've definitely been disappointed in plenty of things so I wasn't gonna let it happen again lol at this point I kinda do expect things to just go south so I'm prepared mentally which who knows if that's good

So true! Sometimes we want something so bad and just fall apart when it doesn’t end up happening.
I work at a school and I have so many talented students who want job opportunities but are afraid of a million things (income, location, etc). I always tell them to go for it, get the job, AND THEN decide if you want to go for it. Of you wait too long before you get the courage to do something you could be stagnant. Sometimes following your fear is how you know you’re on the right track.
Arielle, from your post I thnk you are an inspirational teacher. I've reinvented myself many times and taken a lot of risks. Your students will not know if the risk is worth it unless they take the risk. Most of the risks I have taken have paid off. When I failed I learned. Thus is life. I agree your students should jump at the opportunities that present themselves. They won't kick themselves for trying and not succeeding. They will kick themselves for the chances they don't take.

this really helped today. I was supposed to go see dodie live today and I can't now because of the hurricane.
