3 minutes in and I already feel this video is so honest and encouraging. Mental health and struggling with exercise are all too common for me and to hear more people sharing their stories and being honest about it is refreshing and uplifting. Thank you Danie for your vulnerability. It meant a lot to me!

This message means a lot to me! I was not feeling excited to share this part of me but I also know how important it is to share all the different sides of ourselves because no one is perfect. We all just need to encourage each other! xo

Hello Danie, thank you for being so honest. I too struggle with exercise. However, my problem now is that I have arthritis and a lot of other issues. Most recently I am currently recovering from shoulder surgery. I managed to do well at the beginning, taking walks half an hour in the morning then half an hour in the afternoon. But now the weather's getting colder so I need to figure something else out. I'm sure you will start to see the results really soon from exercising. Both physically and mentally. It does help because you start feeling better about yourself in lots of different ways. You are very talented and I pray strength for your journey. Thank you again for your vulnerability. The idea is never stop moving.

@ladyt2587 I recommend Mall walking. You can call your local mall and see if they have a program. I don't live close to a mall anymore, so I got a pair of WinterTrax, a light duty traction device for winter safety on packed snow and ice. Of course, I am one of those crazy people who love winter and shoveling snow! I'm 73. A Native Minnesotan!

@@DIYDanie Heck Yeah! It is so scary putting yourself out there, especially since social media tends to create an air of fake authenticity. I love seeing the few youtubers I truly enjoy watching be authentically themselves. You are definitely one of my Favorites to watch! Keep up the amazing work in all you do!

Well done Dani! I turn 65 next month and I started training with my daughter at our local gym. She is a certified CrossFit trainer and has adapted a program for me 2x weekly … swimming on Fridays includes simply walking against the lazy man river … it’s been almost 5 months and I finally feel stronger. I’m trusting the process for sure!

Thank you for sharing your journey! Doesn't matter what age we are - being active and keeping our bodies moving is so important to our health. Swimming sounds like a great activity - you're so lucky to have a daughter in the fitness space!

As a 60 yr old who has had multiple back surgeries & can barely walk, keep going! You won't regret it. I know it sucks now, but I also know that if I had done what you're going & taken care of my body when I was your age, odds are I wouldn't be in the horrible shape I'm in now. Be easy with yourself, but never give up. Much love & respect from East Texas 💖💖💖

As a almost 66 year old, through proper eating and starting walking this spring, I am finally under 200 pounds for the first time in 30+ years. I’ve lost 40 pounds and I’m going to the next step. Joining a gym. Thank you for your courage! Better health all around for all!

You are on a journey, and that's amazing! I have a trainer and for 6 years have been working hard at a gym. I am now 71. I have a gym in my building, but I don't use it. People may not be judging, but I feel super intimated. Keep going. Your heart will love you.

This is amazing! I can't bring myself to do what you do, not even near, or at least I'm not there yet. I only go to the gym in my building to get coffee but sometimes I run into the gentleman, likely in his 70ies, who does yoga there. I'm in absolute awe of his discipline and will power. And yours as well!

Danie, your timing is impeccable! This week was the first time in months (probably years) I've been able to do even a tiny at home workout, and that's after spending most of my teens and twenties boxing, dancing, and being super active . Thank you so much for sharing, honestly; your vulnerability in showing us this struggle is incredible and validating on so many levels. The accountability piece of at home exercise is SO HARD. But it's SO important for mental health and wellness 😭
(The DIY storage looks, as always, amazing 🤩)

Reupholstering the bench was GENIUS! I need to look into doing this to mine. The biggest struggle with a home gym is the unaesthetic colored equipment in the corner. I love that you had the idea to cover it!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I am going through exactly the same thing. While I'm struggling with my own fitness, I was thinking about carving some space out of my workshop for a home gym. I really didn't want to risk sawdust around my workout equipment, but I didn't think I had room anywhere else. You inspired me to use my office space as well. I thought it might be too small, but it's about the same size as yours, and it looks like you were able to make it work. Thank you for being your authentic self, and sharing with all of us! I'm much more motivated to tackle this 💪

So renovated a part of my finished basement into a whole home gym. Painted, fixed and sealed floors, added gym flooring, bought and installed all the gym equipment, added decor…etc. long story short, the most exercise I got was the renovation and build itself. Haven’t used it once. Looks like I need to go find another room to renovate.

A lot of people lack storage solutions in their homes. That’s a major reason of how the garage no longer holds cars 😂

This turned out really great. I almost didn't watch it because I get annoyed with watching people turn an "extra" room into a home gym. I don't have an extra room! Many of us don't -- but you turned a corner into a home gym. That is an idea that makes sense for many of us.
And BTW, your annoyance at figuring out too late how you could have made it better is true for me (and others I'm sure). I'm a weaver. By the end of my warp I figure out the best way I could have done it. Too bad I didn't figure that out at the beginning!

How wonderful! With all the DIY's, greenhouse and garage construction, I've never thought that you were out-of-shape! Yet! We feel it more as we grow older! 😲
You spoke of possibly getting heavier weights; if you want to bulk up, then yes; if you want to be trim and lean, less weights, more repetitions. Of couse, you may want to discuss with your fitness coach. I used to teach workouts, so that's why I know.
Good luck on your journey, Danie!! If you have a moment that you don't want to workout, unless it is due to an injury, just know, you will not regret working out!!

Well done Danie. I use to do karate when I was young. My older years I did nothing until my 73 years of neighbour took me to her gym. Wow. She was 79 when she learned how to use a laptop😊. She was an inspiration for me in life how to be positive etc. Unfortunately a few month ago she has passed away at the age of 103. I am missing her so much. Now I am only doing gardening to keep me fit but just recently got a platform in the garden to sit out or sunbake or watch birds and I thought to my self I can do a bit of workout on this space. See how I go but you waken in me the "Health kick". Thank for sharing you very personel side of your life.🫂👌👍💗💓

Great job! With vinyl you can use a heat gun to warm the vinyl for the corner to mold better.

It takes a lot to change habits and to share it in this format might have been difficult but imo you should be proud. Good for you, the hardest part is behind you, now you just get to roll with the new habits and enjoy your rewards!

I love watching you for your energy and DIYing, but I 100% relate and appreciated you sharing about your fitness and mental health. I've heard about copilot on other accounts and this video makes me think it could actually work for me. You're great, keep doing your thing!

I’m proud of you! I can if you falter, please know that you can always get back on the path.
I struggle with exercise so badly. And it’s not necessarily for weight loss. It’s just mental and overall physical betterment.
I keep waiting on the day when I actually enjoy exercise lol. I got weeks without then do a few days then stop again. I’m with you on the struggle bus!
I wish you continuous motivation and thank you for the glimpse. This has motivated me to get back on the path as well and maybe create me a small space dedicated to exercise and bettering myself.

    Dear Danie,
    1stly: You rock!
2ndly: Your hair looks so healthy now ❤
3rdly: Just wanted to share a trick for when using vinyl/faux leather -> you can heat it with a heat gun to stretch it further and avoid/get rid of wrinkles. Just don't use so much heat that it'll melt or remove the texture. Maybe a hairdryer will even suffice in some circumstances?
Have a nice day and all the love and best of luck on your workout journey 💪

I also kind of fell off the wagon after an injury in 2020. I used to be very active but after 6 months of not being allowed to put any weight on my leg at all, I haven't started up again. I still have a lot of pain and I know that it would be a lot better if I had more muscles supporting my knee. But I have struggled so much to get back into it. It's a mental block or something. I really understand how you feel.

I remember when I was going through basic (at 33, no less, army strong not smart lol), and I'd be thrashed every day because my pushups were garbage, couldn't hold a tuck and twist without putting my feet down, planks were a nightmare, and I could barely run a half a mile... but I did it. I'm still doing it. I pushed through, and if I can do it with my previously sedentary lifestyle, so can you! Dig deep, battle buddy!

Thank you.. I am having real trouble keeping up with my fitness, whilst trying to lose weight. My mental health is a little demon of negativity sometimes. This was a very true and honest video. Even just the little workouts looked to maintainable. 😊

I'm so inspired and proud of you, Danie! I didn't grow up as a physically fit child, and I wasn't into sports. I started martial arts in 2013-2014 so I could get into shape and feel comfortable in my body, and around 2019 fell out of it because I wasn't enjoy it or what it was doing to my body anymore. Then covid happened and I had a reality check from my doctor about my health and building myself up to workout out at home has been such a struggle but I'm finally getting to that place, nearly 3.5 years later, where my friends kind of know me for working out and getting buff and fit. It always feels like the steepest hill to climb and some workout days are worse or better than others, but the end goal is to move your body! Keep it strong and healthy! Keep at it, you're doing amazing!
