Notice how whenever Hector does what Lenore wants, she says, “good boy” and gives him a treat. She was training and conditioning him the entire time. Hector is like a puppy to her.
In her last moments in season 4 she showed Hector some semblance of love and called to him not as a pet but as a man. She really cared for him but didn't want to admit it because she's trapped in her nature as a vampire.
Funny how the situation between them at this time became the complete opposite at the end. He was a “Pretty Boy in a box” here...and at the end she became that very thing. She knew that eventually if she stayed like that she would end up just like Camilla. So I guess that’s why she killed her self

the alternative for "not falling for that"...in this scenario...is just squatting in a cell with a few scraps...maybe near the end of their bargaining, before the ring, he had those rough clothes and the scarcest of bathings....but, I imagine your brain would overwhelm you....your primitive brain...a lifetime of this? i suppose you'd have to be ACUTELY aware it was a trap ALL your life in order to truly resist it. or somehow play along, as Hector later did. but in this scenario, your brain is getting so excited by the possibilities of the truth while also growing so weary of existing as a starving, fearful prisoner. to save itself from the literal insanity of doubting its own judgement of the offer being made....it has to accept, eventually.
I think an underrated part of Lenore's manipulation is that she tricks him into thinking that Carmilla has no use for him. That does a few things: first, it confuses him because it upends the entire situation. This forces him to expend mental energy in reversing the situation in his head, which leaves less brainpower for other considerations. Second, it scares him because it means that he's just one more human in a vampire's castle (which makes him food). Third, it gives him hope of escape since if he's not useful then he's theoretically beneath Carmilla's notice. And most crucially, it opens his mind to the idea that Lenore might offer him an alternative which she of course immediately does. It doesn't matter that it's not the *most* believable lie in the world (if Hector had a while alone to think about it he'd realise it's bullshit) but that doesn't matter. The primary purpose of the lie is to confuse him and make him vulnerable, which it does.
Still don't get why she chose to enslave him with the ring though... given how naive Hector was at this point, it would have been pretty easy to convince him to work for them willingly like he did with Hector, especially since he was falling for Lenore's manipulation of him. All she had to do was keep pretending to love him and he would have probably done as she asked.

To be fair to Hector, he was only really fine with that as an alternative to _completely wiping them out._ Dracula: his only friend outside of his animals (alive or alchemically-reanimated), came to him in grief and pretty much told him, "The humans have crossed the line in killing my wife; I need your help in wiping them out, but if you say no, I'll just do it without you."

You know why she genuinely frightens me more than the other vampires? It's how easily she can wrap you around her fingers, make you believe she truly cares about you. She reminds me of a Venus fly trap. How it attracts it's prey and before they know it, they're already trapped.

What I love about this is that it is just so cruel how she betrayed him, but in a twisted way you can totally see how she wouldn’t feel guilty. She took an in prisoned, tortured and starved Hector and got him a comfortable life with regular sex and no brutalizing. In a lot of ways it’s a good deal, but because she lied and manipulated him, he’s a broken shell now.
Locust is right, striga wanted to murder him straight up with out a second though. Morana wanted to torture him and Carmilla didn't care about him in the slightest, he was nothing to her but a forgemaster. Leonore could easily kill him/torture him, but she wants to give him a slightly good life. There are some scenes through season 3 (i just finished watching it) where it looked like leonore was looking down, like she was conflicted.... Yes she is manipulative and sociopathic at ever corner, but deep down? I think she feels something for Hector.
@@Dwayneff She wasn't too keen on humans being considered self-replicating food and kept a pet spider and she never refers to humans as livestock in S3/S4. She's shown in S4 to be squeamish and very much against war so she's a bit different from her sisters.
Yet she was the most human one in the council. The other sisters couldn't care less for humans other than playthings n food, forgetting their roots n their humanity. Lenore never forgot n knew first hand the dangers of war/violence hence why she could connect with Hector n still earn his mercy despite everything cuz he knew there was some genuity behind her actions.
Hector has no reason to complain at all. The fact he survived at all is already a lot, and in season 4, everything she did to him essentially disolves to nothing anyways.

I remember reading about Hanns Scharff, a Nazi interrogator for the Reich. He was known for being friendly, sharing baked goods with his prisoners, and acting like a friend to his prisoners. I don't know if he actually believed in the humanity of all of his inmates, but he at least acted like he did. Instead of torturing those who were captured, a rather common act for the Nazis you could guess, he treated prisoners with kindness. Just so happened he was considered one of the best interrogators of the Nazi war machine, and got loads of information out of people. Just so happens that police detectives do this nowadays as well, more commonly referred to as "good cop bad cop." Lenore essentially does the same, she is nice to Hector, offers herself to him, and he essentially lets himself be manipulated. Why? Well Lenore's pretty, and she's kind to him, that was enough reason to him. Essentially it's the purest form of manipulation.
I'm glad someone else read up on his history. One of his requirements in his techniques was to be genuinely interested and invested in his POWs, and after the war he maintained friendships with many of them. You are right in that Lenore did this masterfully. You can even see Hector trying to raise up barriers against manipulation but he's so unused to her gifts and kindness (even leaving him a thoughtful book on vampire philosophy when he expressed interest during walkies) that he became discombobulated. For a guy whose entire life has been being hated by his family, humanity, and vampires, it is little wonder that he'd follow anyone who would show an ounce of kindness, much less a flood of it even after he attacked her.

In the jail scene, he asks "What's going on?...I want out" Thus, his barriers.

I like Lenore, at least a lot more than her sisters. While I also do feel like she started off talking to to Hector like he was her pet, she started off basically using him like in this scene but feel like she does grow to actually care about him or develop feelings for him in the long run, after she gets to know him more. There is a reason when Isaac attacks the castle instead of running to her sisters aid she immediately goes and finds Hector, she immediately tries to escape with him. I think she started off thinking of him as a tool or pet than slowly grew to respect him and see him as a person and possible partner. There is a reason Hector also saved her from Isaac and she kept saving him from carmilla. Without each other both of them would have probably ended up dead. Carmilla would have probably lost her patience and killed Hector, while if Hector hadn’t spoken up Isaac would have probably gone in that castle and killed every vampire inside including Lenore. So they helped each other survive.
Lenore the “Diplomat” and Hector the “Pretty human boy” in a box...this unlikely couple is the best pairing. She is one of my favorite characters. Looking forward to Season 4.

I believe that's called the Halo Effect, when you assume someone is kind simply because they're attractive. However, I'd also like to point out that Lenore treated Hector with more kindness than her sisters, who treat him like an animal. Though, that was all manipulation anyway. But think about it, she let him talk and get his issues off his chest, gave him clothes, food, and an actual bed to sleep in. She arranged amenities for him. At the point Hector was in, it would be somewhat easy for him to fall for someone who acts like they truly care for him. On that note, she's gonna fucking die!!!!

I think that she acted this way in season 3 because she had her mission to manipulate Hector. In season 4, she seems to be what is her normal self, because her mission on Hector, or at least her part of it, was done. I don’t really know, that’s the only explanation I could think of.
Yeah, I was very disappointed with her arc in season 4 as well (I had extremely high expectations). If the writers had more time, they could have given her a much better ending. I heard the writers were overfocused on Isaac and that would explain why her ending came so fast.

"Diplomacy" used under false and manipulative guises, is the most dangerous tactic I urge everyone here understands in the case it's used against them irl. Look how effective it is with Lenore. Kindness softens people over time, lowers their guard, makes it harder for people to argue with you. Then add fairness, well then people feel like you take them into regard. They feel they're part of your heart and that you're not just selfish. That along with empathy that's usually adjacent to diplomacy to make everything smooth, causes the person to feel like you understand them. Along with the feeling of desire of peace and truce that comes with diplomacy. BUT all the while, the person is using all those skills and tactics to SLOWWWWWLY inch towards what they want, softening you by being kind, grooming you by slowly adding ideas into your mind bc u sound well meaning, appearing innocuous u could have sworn they're a good person, all the while they're moving u agonizingly slowly day by day like the slowest game of chess to the point you don't even recognize your piece was nowhere where it once was. And then. They got you. You're fucked and you had no idea and you have no way ever of turning back. The drastic difference from beginning to now is so dramatic, that u wonder how you didn't notice till now. You would have thought u were drugged. You can't comprehend it. By now, you're doomed. They've inched u so far into their trap, there is no possibility of being what it once was. Permanent. And then the terror from the realization seeps in. How stupid and gullible you were. How trusting you were to someone who you thought you knew and trusted. The broken heart from the betrayal. Permanent collateral damage to your brain and heart. You're left broken completely. And it all started with something tiny, like a smile or a word.
I thought in the end she and Hector would leave together. That really could have been possible. I really don't think she needed to burn alive in the rising sun. They both were manipulative and they both could have learned love.

But as she said, in diplomacy you can't get everything you want, but you can find a compromise. My point is that she'd support peace with humans and coexisting with them on better terms. While Carmilla probably wouldn't even entertain the idea unless she is forced to. That's something I'd actually like to see in S4, i.e. someone working on that reconciliation of both sides. It's something Lisa wanted and Alucard could probably support that as continuing his mother's work. Lenore is probably the best character (shown so far) from the side of vampires (besides Alucard who represents both sides) to support that idea.
Outsmarted? Nah, the controll ring simply didnt work for some reason and was easily dismissed. And while I agree that season 4 is overall great, Hectors and Lenores arc (the Styria arc in general) is the most disappointing thing about it.

One of the lead writers was working as a college prof, and it came out he was pressuring college girls into sexual contact. Violation, the R. He manipulated the girls into one sided short term relationships. Emotionally too, but also otherwise. Like he offered to mentor them, but than undermined the girls, build them down, pressured them, told them they can't make it, at all, undervalued their skill, so on, and pressured them into sexual relationships. He was also married at the time. There was not enough proof against him, so they made a website against him, and the number rose above a 100 person, the last I checked. He got an investigated against him, plenty of proof was found, witnesses, so on. So Netflix fired him and shortened the cartoon. He was responsible of the infamous scenes and weird sex things in Season 3. As for the ring.. I don't know. Making it too strong, feels a bit too Op. Out of place. Like a writting element, instead of a magical item. The function being both mechanical and magical, is a bit better fitting for me. It's a simple ring of obedience. Also, the guy is kind of a mage, so he would've figured something out, but I understand if you would've wanted that act to be a bit more complex. Maybe involve some alchemy, magic, and so on.

Kind of ironic how Hector was fine with humans being used as cattle or even pets so long as they were well kept, only to end up that way himself.
To be fair to Hector, he was only really fine with that as an alternative to _completely wiping them out._ Dracula: his only friend outside of his animals (alive or alchemically-reanimated), came to him in grief and pretty much told him, "The humans have crossed the line in killing my wife; I need your help in wiping them out, but if you say no, I'll just do it without you."
That wasn't the problem. What happened was he felt close to one of the monsters he was working with, only to have his feelings betrayed by her.

Carmila in season 2 and Lenore in S3 are tremendous breakout characters. I hang on every word and look. Subtle manipulation master class

Hector fell in the oldest trick in the book ever created... and I don't blame him.
What I love about this is that it is just so cruel how she betrayed him, but in a twisted way you can totally see how she wouldn’t feel guilty. She took an in prisoned, tortured and starved Hector and got him a comfortable life with regular sex and no brutalizing. In a lot of ways it’s a good deal, but because she lied and manipulated him, he’s a broken shell now.
She asked him what he wanted, and she gave it to him, she only used the ring to keep her sisters from mistreating/killing him.
Locust is right, striga wanted to murder him straight up with out a second though. Morana wanted to torture him and Carmilla didn't care about him in the slightest, he was nothing to her but a forgemaster. Leonore could easily kill him/torture him, but she wants to give him a slightly good life. There are some scenes through season 3 (i just finished watching it) where it looked like leonore was looking down, like she was conflicted.... Yes she is manipulative and sociopathic at ever corner, but deep down? I think she feels something for Hector.
@@Dwayneff She wasn't too keen on humans being considered self-replicating food and kept a pet spider and she never refers to humans as livestock in S3/S4. She's shown in S4 to be squeamish and very much against war so she's a bit different from her sisters.
Yet she was the most human one in the council. The other sisters couldn't care less for humans other than playthings n food, forgetting their roots n their humanity.
Lenore never forgot n knew first hand the dangers of war/violence hence why she could connect with Hector n still earn his mercy despite everything cuz he knew there was some genuity behind her actions.
Hector has no reason to complain at all. The fact he survived at all is already a lot, and in season 4, everything she did to him essentially disolves to nothing anyways.

I remember reading about Hanns Scharff, a Nazi interrogator for the Reich. He was known for being friendly, sharing baked goods with his prisoners, and acting like a friend to his prisoners. I don't know if he actually believed in the humanity of all of his inmates, but he at least acted like he did. Instead of torturing those who were captured, a rather common act for the Nazis you could guess, he treated prisoners with kindness.
Just so happened he was considered one of the best interrogators of the Nazi war machine, and got loads of information out of people. Just so happens that police detectives do this nowadays as well, more commonly referred to as "good cop bad cop." Lenore essentially does the same, she is nice to Hector, offers herself to him, and he essentially lets himself be manipulated. Why? Well Lenore's pretty, and she's kind to him, that was enough reason to him. Essentially it's the purest form of manipulation.
I'm glad someone else read up on his history. One of his requirements in his techniques was to be genuinely interested and invested in his POWs, and after the war he maintained friendships with many of them.
You are right in that Lenore did this masterfully. You can even see Hector trying to raise up barriers against manipulation but he's so unused to her gifts and kindness (even leaving him a thoughtful book on vampire philosophy when he expressed interest during walkies) that he became discombobulated. For a guy whose entire life has been being hated by his family, humanity, and vampires, it is little wonder that he'd follow anyone who would show an ounce of kindness, much less a flood of it even after he attacked her.

I like Lenore, at least a lot more than her sisters. While I also do feel like she started off talking to to Hector like he was her pet, she started off basically using him like in this scene but feel like she does grow to actually care about him or develop feelings for him in the long run, after she gets to know him more. There is a reason when Isaac attacks the castle instead of running to her sisters aid she immediately goes and finds Hector, she immediately tries to escape with him. I think she started off thinking of him as a tool or pet than slowly grew to respect him and see him as a person and possible partner. There is a reason Hector also saved her from Isaac and she kept saving him from carmilla. Without each other both of them would have probably ended up dead. Carmilla would have probably lost her patience and killed Hector, while if Hector hadn’t spoken up Isaac would have probably gone in that castle and killed every vampire inside including Lenore. So they helped each other survive.
I think she actually cared about hector but she was honest when she said she was loyal to her sisters especially carmilla.

I believe that's called the Halo Effect, when you assume someone is kind simply because they're attractive. However, I'd also like to point out that Lenore treated Hector with more kindness than her sisters, who treat him like an animal. Though, that was all manipulation anyway. But think about it, she let him talk and get his issues off his chest, gave him clothes, food, and an actual bed to sleep in. She arranged amenities for him. At the point Hector was in, it would be somewhat easy for him to fall for someone who acts like they truly care for him.

I think that she acted this way in season 3 because she had her mission to manipulate Hector. In season 4, she seems to be what is her normal self, because her mission on Hector, or at least her part of it, was done. I don’t really know, that’s the only explanation I could think of.
Yeah, I was very disappointed with her arc in season 4 as well (I had extremely high expectations). If the writers had more time, they could have given her a much better ending. I heard the writers were overfocused on Isaac and that would explain why her ending came so fast.

"Diplomacy" used under false and manipulative guises, is the most dangerous tactic I urge everyone here understands in the case it's used against them irl. Look how effective it is with Lenore. Kindness softens people over time, lowers their guard, makes it harder for people to argue with you. Then add fairness, well then people feel like you take them into regard. They feel they're part of your heart and that you're not just selfish. That along with empathy that's usually adjacent to diplomacy to make everything smooth, causes the person to feel like you understand them. Along with the feeling of desire of peace and truce that comes with diplomacy. BUT all the while, the person is using all those skills and tactics to SLOWWWWWLY inch towards what they want, softening you by being kind, grooming you by slowly adding ideas into your mind bc u sound well meaning, appearing innocuous u could have sworn they're a good person, all the while they're moving u agonizingly slowly day by day like the slowest game of chess to the point you don't even recognize your piece was nowhere where it once was. And then. They got you. You're fucked and you had no idea and you have no way ever of turning back. The drastic difference from beginning to now is so dramatic, that u wonder how you didn't notice till now. You would have thought u were drugged. You can't comprehend it. By now, you're doomed. They've inched u so far into their trap, there is no possibility of being what it once was. Permanent. And then the terror from the realization seeps in. How stupid and gullible you were. How trusting you were to someone who you thought you knew and trusted. The broken heart from the betrayal. Permanent collateral damage to your brain and heart. You're left broken completely. And it all started with something tiny, like a smile or a word.

But as she said, in diplomacy you can't get everything you want, but you can find a compromise. My point is that she'd support peace with humans and coexisting with them on better terms. While Carmilla probably wouldn't even entertain the idea unless she is forced to.
That's something I'd actually like to see in S4, i.e. someone working on that reconciliation of both sides. It's something Lisa wanted and Alucard could probably support that as continuing his mother's work. Lenore is probably the best character (shown so far) from the side of vampires (besides Alucard who represents both sides) to support that idea.

Hector outsmarted Lenore, and they became really good friends. I recommend watching Season 4. It's great.
Outsmarted? Nah, the controll ring simply didnt work for some reason and was easily dismissed. And while I agree that season 4 is overall great, Hectors and Lenores arc (the Styria arc in general) is the most disappointing thing about it.

@@abraham2172 Yeaaah. You are kinda right on that. There were supposed to be another season... but.. I don't know if you heard it or not. One of the lead writers was working as a college prof, and it came out he was pressuring college girls into sexual contact. Violation, the R. He manipulated the girls into one sided short term relationships. Emotionally too, but also otherwise. Like he offered to mentor them, but than undermined the girls, build them down, pressured them, told them they can't make it, at all, undervalued their skill, so on, and pressured them into sexual relationships. He was also married at the time. There was not enough proof against him, so they made a website against him, and the number rose above a 100 person, the last I checked. He got an investigated against him, plenty of proof was found, witnesses, so on. So Netflix fired him and shortened the cartoon. He was responsible of the infamous scenes and weird sex things in Season 3.
As for the ring.. I don't know. Making it too strong, feels a bit too Op. Out of place. Like a writting element, instead of a magical item. The function being both mechanical and magical, is a bit better fitting for me. It's a simple ring of obedience. Also, the guy is kind of a mage, so he would've figured something out, but I understand if you would've wanted that act to be a bit more complex. Maybe involve some alchemy, magic, and so on.

But practically speaking, they might have no choice but to unite their forces if some kind of new threat in S4 will be a problem both for humans and vampires and will be too big for either side to handle alone. I'd find it a cool story development (would kind of remind how all warring factions united in the end of GoT as well to address the common threat).
