Um, actually nothing happens if she uses the nunchuk on those rocket barrel stages 'coz it's controlled by the Wii Remote. You press the A button to go up and release it to go down.He was giving her a feeling that she was doing something even though she wasn't.
I know this is ancient at this point, but just delightful. My favorite part indeed was when the girl in the black shirt was helping Spike with the rocket barrel level in World 8 and she almost sent him into the lava. I think everyone's gut clenched right alongside mine. When Spike said that she should've just kept going on left was just hilarious. Again, I know this is really old, but just wonderful.
Those kids are absolutely adorable! Reminds me of my daughter, before she started playing games with me.. she used to watch me play games here and there, when we weren't out and about doing various other activities. Kids and games are so much fun together.
Dude... At 1:07:21, when he repeated that guy with, "Is this game canon?" I thought aloud: "Why even ask? Well, wait, some people like Donkey Kong enough to honestly care... but there's no King K. Rool in this. Do people even care if he's in a newer game? Is K. Rool even canon in these games?" Right then, he actually brought K. Rool up. I swear he could have had the same train of thought.
1:21:13 the little girl is visibly saddened by this death. She does the same thing next time. So cute how she is invested into the game with the rest of the audience. 12:22:15 Aww, and then the hug when he beat the level. That kid rules.
I can't tell if the kids are covering their ears because they don't want to hear the death music (in the classic kid logic of "if I can't hear it, it's not real!") or because they're expecting everyone to make a lot of noise when Spike dies.
so, it was pretty neat-then got to the barrel rocket/pirate ship level, and...well, +5000 pimpish points for bringin in the kid to help out :) That made my day, and I wasn't even there when it happened!
Am I the only one who kept watching the adorable kids instead of the run itself from time to time? Man, if the next marathon has kids around, there should be donation incentives to let the kids play parts.
Wow, this was just fantastic. The run had a lot of great skill moments and he's really good at entertaining people, too! Good stuff, was worth watching. And now... maybe I'll try to get those last 5 gold medals I didn't get back when the game came out.
You might want to look through their Twitch TV archives. There's a helpful post on reddit with all the games. Search for SGDQ 2013 times or something similar.
I just want you to imagine how good this game would look if remade on modern consoles (I'm not including the Wii U as that was NEVER "modern"), like if Nintendo's next console were more advanced than PS4 and XBOX ONE. Or if it's easier, just imagine how good it would look if it were created on PS4 and had all the processing power and resources (to do 1080p and 60 frames per second *WITH* the even more advanced graphics, lighting, etc.). Now, just imagine that same scenario, but imagine the game is a sequel or re-imagining (like this game kind of is) of Super Metroid! I can just imagine a modern reimagining of Super Metroid! not a 1:1 remake with same exact story / route, etc.; just the same STYLE of game--2d side scroller--done in full 1080p and using 3d models for the character / levels with real lighting and effects instead of spites and such. I wouldn't even care if they just used the same location names, bosses, weapons, et cetera but just maybe added a couple new tools / weapons & bosses, maybe even add some new areas / locations you could go to, and then just changed the layout of the entire world and therefore the path & route you have to take, as well as changing the locations of the items and stuff. So it would basically be a "new" game entirely, but would just re-use the weapons and boss names / characters. Even the controls could be pretty much exactly the same, except maybe tightened up slightly to accommodate the increased frame rate, and maybe add in some functionality for the extra buttons (e.g. be able to swap shot types with R2 or L2 instead of having to go to the menu). But just imagine the graphics. I imagine it would look like a cross between the amazingly detailed, colourful & vibrant graphics of "Trine" and the amazing clean & crisp graphics of something like "Rayman: Origins". I mean even if it looked just like "Rayman Origins" which is basically just really HD sprites, that might even be better than using 3d models & real lighting. But either way, it would look fantastic, and because of the amazing controls of Super Metroid, it would PLAY fantastic, and they could make the game much longer and have even more secrets, side quests, etc. I've been dreaming of that game for years now, and it seems Nintendo is hell bent on letter Metroid be one of the only franchises that they refuse to take back to their 2d roots (Mario did it, Donkey Kong did it, Zelda did it, etc.) even though it's probably the one game that would fit it best and would benefit the most from going back to its roots. I mean I like the "Prime" series just fine, but it doesn't feel like true "Metroid" to me, and feels more just like a really good FPS RPG type of game; they're terribly linear, like almost all FPS games, which isn't at all like the original Metroid games. Even though you had to do certain things / go certain places before you could progress the story normally, it still FELT really open because there was a lot of trial and error as to figuring out those required events / items. *Plus*, there ARE ways--several variations in fact--around doing the game in the proposed order, as speed runners have shown. Anyway, that's my rant. Felt like a good place for it and good use of 5-10 minutes at the end of my work day :P
I take it spikevegeta reads most of the comments and donations in some of the older runs? Also, those kids most have had a fun time watching the marathon.
+Ryan Scheel I suppose, but to be on the minute every single time is very very precise and awesome of him. I guess it goes to show how much he practiced for this run if he can be that exact with his times!
41:00 intentionally dying during a speedrun for the sake of delivery is awesome. I love SpikeVegeta.
+Strange Axle In Time Trials, it's faster to take that death. Obviously though with real time it is slower.
Ah, did not catch that. lol Either way, it stuck well with delivery.
SleepingGiant I am currently time trialing this level. How is it faster
instablaster.
This run should not count because it's co-op. That little girl is clearly working mad hax.
Um, actually nothing happens if she uses the nunchuk on those rocket barrel stages 'coz it's controlled by the Wii Remote. You press the A button to go up and release it to go down.He was giving her a feeling that she was doing something even though she wasn't.
Sahil Gupta
THAT'S JUST WHAT SHE WANTS US TO THINK
Dillo64 I bet that girl could have speedrunned it better than Vageta did. (I don't mean Vageta is bad at running.)
James Testa xD
+James Testa I hope you don't mean me, punk.
This run is amazing. Humorous while showing off how fast the game can be beat.
Finally I get to see the man behind the voice
Right!?
I didn’t even realise
This speedrun makes me smile so much.
This was the cutest run I've ever said. Spikevegeta is such an awesome guy letting her 'help' him. I can't stop smiling.
Even though the run wasn’t the best, this was still one of my favorite GDQ runs of all time.
This guys fun. I like this.
yup, really!
1:43:50 - Too freaking cute!
3rd time watching this run. Favorite childhood game, favorite speedrun commentary 😃
I know this is ancient at this point, but just delightful. You... do know the little girl wasn’t actually doing anything right?
She actually had the D-pad on her controller, @@lightbrand_. She decided whether he went left or right, or just sat there. ;3
@@MrOmegatronic i mean only in the very first second of the level, and she didn’t really get to decide cuz he told her immediately to press right
Right at the _end_ of the level, @@lightbrand_, when she almost walked him to the left... which would've killed him and made him redo the level. ;3
DKC Returns (Kids%) (Glasses%)
lol when ever I see that baby appear all I can think of is Espa Roba from YGOAbridged behind the cam going: "Do you want this baby!?"
Man this run brings me a lot of childhood memories and this part at 6:37 was really funny
Oh my god this is freaking adorable.
I feel bad for those 2 kids. They are both bored out their minds. Why would the parents take them their?
1:43:51 Freeze Frame Bonus!
1:28:17 watch the full clip for me the funniest part.
Thank you very much for this upload! I've played all 3 original DKCs, and this is definitely reminiscent of them.
Those kids are absolutely adorable! Reminds me of my daughter, before she started playing games with me.. she used to watch me play games here and there, when we weren't out and about doing various other activities. Kids and games are so much fun together.
21:36 I love how the girl leaves Asa hanging and just immediately looks at her mom... all kids need at that age is approval from their parents
So nice to see speed runners and families playing games and raising money for a good cause, good show and good job
Dude... At 1:07:21, when he repeated that guy with, "Is this game canon?" I thought aloud:
"Why even ask? Well, wait, some people like Donkey Kong enough to honestly care... but there's no King K. Rool in this. Do people even care if he's in a newer game? Is K. 19:54 Most adorable speedrun ever.

Nice work Spike! Waching this made Monday at work quite delightful!
Cutest speedrun ever (thanks to the kids !).
Keep going ! :)
Hearing a lot of talk about mega man games during this run, can't wait to see the mega man block of SGDQ uploaded!
I remember watching this live and literally died with the amount of cuteness in this run. The chat exploded when the fanart was made.
1:21:13 the little girl is visibly saddened by this death. She does the same thing next time. So cute how she is invested into the game with the rest of the audience. 12:22:15 Aww, and then the hug when he beat the level. That kid rules.

My third time watching this and I just now realized that they added "(KIDS%)" to the title at 16:23.
I fight for my friends. Q
@@rollypolly7687 any ASKERS bitch
Start of this run was amazing.
so, it was pretty neat-then got to the barrel rocket/pirate ship level, and...well, +5000 pimpish points for bringin in the kid to help out :) That made my day, and I wasn't even there when it happened!
Informative, Entertaining with some kids. Amazing run !
badass run so far spike, gjob!!!!!
I just discovered Spike vegita. This guys presentation skills are on point.
This is the most wholesome and adorable speedrun evar.
Shouldn't this guy call himself afrovegeta?
+EnigmaHood or hercules/satan
hahhhaah
When you let the little girl help out that was so awesome :)
SpikeVegeta's afro best runner NA
That profile pic do.
Am I the only one who kept watching the adorable kids instead of the run itself from time to time? Man, if the next marathon has kids around, there should be donation incentives to let the kids play parts.
Those girls in the background are freaking ADORABLE!
I loved this game when it first came out.
That picture at the end. Freakin pro. Spike is such an awesome guy. I want to see more by him.
1:43:51 Omg I love that fan art!!!
Can we get a link to the fan art?
the cuteness level is over 9000!!!
I don't know why but I love this guys voice xD its amazing golden like haha
This game deserves another run.
Wow, this was just fantastic. The run had a lot of great skill moments and he's really good at entertaining people, too! Good stuff, was worth watching. And now... maybe I'll try to get those last 5 gold medals I didn't get back when the game came out.
Well then, I must say, they are THE MOST adorable kids ever~ Like, my heart melts when they get excited about the speedrun because it's so darn cute.
6:19 if you want to hear the "go" to officially begin the run.
best of the platform player. u make this game looks so easy
Donkey Kong Country Returns really NEEDS another run at GDQ. It has been TOO long! Almost 7 years!
Hopefully SpikeVegeta runs it again too.
Run starts at 6:14!
i have the smallest temptation to speedrun the 3DS version of this game...After i've beaten it
This game is so visually appealing....
8:40
This is why I got it on 3DS instead.
26:46 everyone dance! :)
The sudden appearance of the baby each time cracks me up.
this game looks beautiful
"Wheeere's the duct tape?"
That was pretty funny.
Spike is an awesome guy.
It's funny and cute skipping 5 minutes at a time and watching the kids change position EVERY time.
You could make a highlight reel with just this run.
If Seth Rogan and Vince Vaughn had a child...
Gabriel Spilkin bob Ross and Seth rogan
Eric Andre and Seth Rogan.
Love the artwork at the end of his run :)
Best comentary ever.
So this is the only result for typing "spikevegeta kid%" into google. They know what I want.
You might want to look through their Twitch TV archives. There's a helpful post on reddit with all the games. Search for SGDQ 2013 times or something similar.
they are the most well respected speedrunners ever
I personally freakin' LOVE this speedrun... just saying.
is there anyway I can see the fan art?
looking forward to the marathon on the 25th
Fanart is at 1:43:50 You'll have to pause it.

Fyrecide jesus chris this comment was full of information and no one noticed it
Awesome and entertaining run.
16:35 i tried to get the trick up to the platform but it never works and he got it first try in a live speedrun. I fear this man.
Right as I scrolled down the the comments to as what ILs are, they explained it. noice.
they are Essentia's (the mom speedrunner on the couch) children.
31:55 Most adorable burrito ever.
1:23:04 was amazing platforming.
I take it spikevegeta reads most of the comments and donations in some of the older runs? Also, those kids most have had a fun time watching the marathon.
This guy is amazing!
can't wait for paper mario, I missed the last chapter
that drawing was awesome
Does anyone know what Sinister1's Super Secret Incentive was/can it be uploaded?
Gotta give the guy credit for being patient with the kids behind him. Had to've been distracting lol
Ahhh, I always wondered where the picture of the kid taking the controller off of Spike originated from
I dont understand how Spike has this uncanny ability to judge /exactly/ what time he's at. It scares me.
He knows what time he should be at during a specific section plus how much time he's lost due to mistakes.
+Ryan Scheel I suppose, but to be on the minute every single time is very very precise and awesome of him. I guess it goes to show how much he practiced for this run if he can be that exact with his times!
After seeing that picture, I couldn't help but think of Bo bo bo Bo Bobo
Nice run guys
And the epic fanart where the girl steals his Nunchuck and he just looks dumbfounded.
The kid's face at 1:28:20 is great :p
Spike is so cool.
I didn't watch the whole marathon, what was SinisterOne's "Super Secret Incentive"?
THIS GAME IS SO HARD!!!!
