I completely agree with your statement. I remember the first time I watched this speed run I couldn’t keep a smile off of my face. Something about Toufool and the guys dancing and snapping along to the Mario theme is just pure enjoyment and always puts a smile on my face regardless.

probably because SM64 was too much to live up to. But I agree, Sunshine is amazing.
I think people just didnt like having to use the fludd. Honestly i like it more than the gravity mechanics in galaxy
It was also quite different from previous titles and the whole FLUDD thing I thought was weird. I liked it as a whole, both as a stand alone and a Mario game but it was definitely weird and I could see why people could be put off by it.
I didnt like FLUDD. Its really thats simple lol. Its a solid game but I would have much preferred not being forced to use the super soaker.

This is probably my favorite run ever at GDQ. Toufool is such a cool guy and the couch quartet was freaking awesome.
It's too bad stuff like this probably wont happen anymore since they had to get all... professional and slap a bunch of rules on everything this past AGDQ

***** Things like the singing, cheering, and interaction aren't really allowed now. Cosplay and things that "distract from the runner's presence" (like plushies) are now outlawed. If you want more like this, look at other AGDQ/SGDQ runs from 2013, I wouldn't bother with watching 2015 though. It's still an entertaining event, just not what it used to be.
Endork Quite a shame to read about these rule changes. It's the back seat interaction, as Toufool mentioned, that makes the runs both more entertaining for the watcher and easier for the runner. It makes it rather like watching cricket or snooker or anything that has a "long form" type of commentary; hilarious but takes time for awesome to haappen. I won't be watching 2k15 either.

While I think that the rule is a bit ridiculous in general (no costumes? seriously?), there have been many instances in which people were obviously just annoying for the runners. The "tomba incident" might be the most well-known example.
To be honest, the couch guys became slightly annoying after around an hour into the run because they did that same little performance every two minutes.

I remember spending hours just trying to beat those platform or secret levels in this game! It is amazing how these speedrunners can do it in a matter of minutes if not seconds! They make games look so easy, and it is amazing to watch.
If you're unaware GDQ did this game again a few days ago. Quicker and better strats too.

How does this game still look so good?
1. Gamecube makes everything timeless.
2. Ridiculously pretty water textures.
Because the GameCube is a powerful system, I mean look at the water effects in Mario Party 4, I'm using that specific one as an example because it was one of the earlier GC games, and damn! Some of the minigames have amazing water in them.
its the power of the gamecube and the cartoon style, cartoon styles look better than realistic ones because the realistic styles quality depends on the technology at the time but the cartoon style isn't restricted by technology.
The gamecube is truly ahead of its time.
The Art Style and the Gamecube was such a good console made it a really pretty game graphically.
I genuinely smiled throughout this whole thing this game was my childhood favorite

Yeah. Both of the core Mario games on the GameCube got flak for being too divergent from the regular Mario formula which is why a lot of the Mario games on the Wii and WiiU were very similar with only superficial changes.

This is one of the most positive speed running videos I've ever seen. I want to be friends with literally every one of them lol. They all clearly really love that game and having fun with each other!

I don't care what anyone says. Mario sunshine is one of my favorite mario games. I personally don't see why people give it such a hard time. Just like windwaker I always see people bashing that game. When it's a fantastic game to me.
People say it's bad because it's a black sheep of the mario series. Honestly, I loved Mario Sunshine because of FLuD being mario's companion, It's fun to slide and parkour like what Toufool's doing in the video.

I thought I was pretty good at Mario, but some of the jumps made in one try here are just incredible.
You know what I love about these, the fact you can be who you want. As in the guy on the couch, mad punk hair cut, t-shirt, hugging some cartoon doll. Thats rad as fuck. I saw another dude wearing a full on link outfit in a Zelda speed run. Mad respect for the Speeding Running Community.
Oscar Bayly Unfortunately, they banned plushies, cosplays, and whatnot after 2014, I believe. SGDQ later this month won't look like this, sadly. :(
Matthew Bridges Yeah, the silly little things that went on were some of the greatest. I watched this year's SGDQ (some of it) and it didn't have the same charm. I tried watching the Earthbound run and I got bored really quick because they were only focusing on the run and barely talking.

Fun fact: the manta ray shine at 1:00:55 is actually a reference to the original book of the shining,I don't know if this is intended but near the end of the book(I have never read it) there is a section that mentions seeing a silhouette of a manta ray shaped object in the sky that splits into miniature versions of itself before slowly fading away.
I've never seen a speedrun where everything felt so lively and chill the whole time. This run was awesome!

I still come back to this run every now and then when I need something to cheer me up. probably the most entertaining GDQ run ever tied with bonesaws jak&dexter lets play and tripl3ag3nts sonic 06 run.
I miss when the events were smaller like this. Recently, they've lost all their "soul". The banter and antics between everyone added such an amazing personality to the events and now it's gone almost entirely. It's become almost like a business instead of an event for everyone to get together and just have fun.

I'm an old-timer 40 years old gamer, and I really appreciated that speedrun. Even if my fingers are still really good, that performance makes me feel like they are rusty!
Super Mario Sunshine is a real fun game to play, and I make a duty to play it at least once in a year.

SGDQ 2013 had some of the best streams in general. Wish some of the more recent streams had a laid back entertaining vibe like this one did.

Loved watching this, nice job on beating the old record Toufool, I remember years ago when I played Super Mario Sunshine the game felt impossible at some parts but Toufool made it look too easy. Also the Do do couch crew was awesome, and that doll that the guy with the mohawk (didn't catch his name) was holding look so cute, I actually want one now. Found out it was called a Reimu plushie, not sure who Reimu is but it looks cool

I remember back when I was a kid, I thought the cannon to Pinna Park was a switch because of the sun's reflection on it, it looked like a ! so I thought it was a massive hd ! switch for something. So when I entered it the first and it was a cannon I was confused. Ah good times, Sunshine holds a special place in my heart.
Also, damn! Lots of you guys hated Bonesaw talking throughout the thing. I'm glad that I saw that there were people who didn't mind, infact even enjoyed him talking because it started to feel like I was the only one who didn't mind. I mean not everyone understands what is going on so he's there to explain what glitches and just general things about the game while Toufool concentrates on the speedrun.
