    I have noticed on all Walther reviews, none of you guys have ever talked about the heart of the gun. So here ya go. I'm one of the guys that make this step barrel in the Fort Smith Plant. There is a lot of detail that goes into this barrel and it is unnoticed to the public. It has over a 105 tight dimensions that has to be checked 100% every 5 parts on a CMM machine. The chamber machine work has to be checked 100% on every part. I don't know about other gun manufactures, but I can tell you from hands on this is the best barrel you can get in a gun.

      I've watched a ton of reviews on the PDP over 6 months ago before I bought my pistol and I've watched a bunch since and you're right. I have not heard anything about the barrel. Good to know man thanks. I love my pdp. It's my first pistol and since then I've shot a whole bunch of them and none of them feel so good.

      @@JimmyLuffjr Well then perhaps a question you can answer; what do you think of the folks changing the weight of the recoil spring? Good idea or better not to mess with it because of something I may not yet understand? Thinking for competition rounds, not hollows. Also my barrel is noticeably awesome, thanks for your hard work.

      @@paramounttactical How about the 4 inch vs 5 inch steel frames? How do they compare recoil wise and flat shooting?

    • @paramounttactical
      @paramounttactical  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@clorofenol the 4inch shoots shockingly flat and you barely feel the recoil. They both shoot very similar to high end equal barrel length 2011’s. Of course the 5” match shouts slightly better but the 4” shoots better than any Glock or other striker fired pistol I’ve shot.

    Thank you! I am older (70) and have only recently (in the last two years - can you guess why?) become a firearm owner. Upon a recommendation (and without trying it first) I purchased a polymer PDP Compact 4". I love it! I have taken a concealed carry course and a basic shooting course at my local gun shop/range where I purchased my Walther. The instructor there is very experienced and knowledgeable but, he is a total Glock fan boy and spends as much time trying to sell you on the virtues of Glock (EVERY police department in world and maybe other planets use Glocks). No doubt they are fine firearms and are worthy of their reputation but, they are not perfect (no handgun is). I don't engage with him due to my inexperience but, I have watched SO many reviews of the PDP and every single one of them (like YOURS) has only raved about the trigger and ergonomics! Always reinforces my feeling that I made the right choice. Now, I am not a big guy (other than around the waist! lol!) so the PDP was going to be an awkward carry gun, so I purchased a Shield9 Plus OR to carry and am happy with that choice. Since then I have purchased a Walther PPQ M2 22lr for range plinking and working on my technique. I have a long way to go in this journey but, find that people like you and your videos (and I am now following you on Rumble!) provide a lot of great information. Thank you for your service. Glocks are the MOPAR cars of handguns. I EDC my Walther PDP but my home defense is based around Glock's compatibility. If you've ever seen what it's like in a city 5-6days after a storm, no power and minimal cell signal, you'd understand wanting to stage a firearm in various locations of your home. Extar's EP9, PSA's Dagger and my G19 allow me to run a single platform with no stress about remembering what magazine goes with which firearm at 3am
      That being said, I much prefer the feel of my PDP. It's a better grip, excellent trigger and a better magwell out of the box. The PDP is not necessarily the "better" gun but it's alot more comfortable to shoot.

      @@JKLauderdale I hear you! In fact I am awaiting the arrival of the EP9 I recently ordered. Currently my PDP acts as a Home Defense Weapon and I have gotten an extra 15 round and 17 round magazine for extra capacity.

      @@dougt5357 EP9 is a blast to shoot but there's a roller delayed option coming to the States in 2H 2024 for the same price that also runs Glock mags.

    I'd never heard of the PDP, walked in a gun shop I go to all the time down the street 3? years ago, saw the Walther PDP and bought it because It's James Bond's brand and it looked pretty cool. Love it, shoot it all the time, and it's accurate as hell even for my average abilities. Wife just got me the long slide PDP for my birthday. Looking forward to that one. Have lots of cool pistols, cheap ones, way more expensive ones, but I shoot my PDP 70% and the CZ 75 SP-01 20% and the rest I shoot off and on. PDP shoots great with optic, without optic, cheap ammo, more expensive ammo, just shoots nice.

    • @paramounttactical
      @paramounttactical  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      They have polymer line for that but IMO none of the PDP line is really a ccw centric handgun. They’re fine, like any full size/compact for OWB but like every double stack, it’s not gonna carry comfortably IWB. So if you’re going OWB and you’re concerned with weight, go with a compact 3.5 or 4” polymer. There’s no advantage of aluminum over polymer. The fight difference isnt enough to matter and there’s no other advantage of an aluminum gun. If you’re going with steel, you want the weight and mitigating recoil is the primary goal.

    They’ve also got some other version like the Pro-E (same as the pro SD, but minus the threaded barrel), the PDP Professional (comes with an ACRO cut for direct mounting).

    Correction (23:49) The Dynamic Performance Trigger ($179.00) is not available for the PDP F models. They also now have a PDP Pro-E model which is the same as the PDP Pro SD model except for the threaded barrel. The Pro-E has the mag well and Dynamic Performance Trigger but not a threaded barrel. Also, the Pro SD models (both Compact and Full Size) use the 18 round mags. The regular PDP models use different mags. The PDP compact uses a 15 round mag and will not take the 18 round mags. Use of the 18 rd mags in the compact models will damage the extractor. The PDP Full size use the 18 rd mags. The lips on the top of the 15 & 18 rd mags are slightly different on each mag.

    Walther has always been up there near the top. The PPQ was The First Striker Fired Pistol to have a Fully Cocked firing pin. But they got it down right so you dont have to worry about them going off in holster or when dropped. The glock and alot of others have a partially cocked firing pin so when you pull the trigger you finish cocking it. They replaced the PPQ cause it was not OR. The PDP improves on everything, OR, grip, texture, etc., but no more 45acp.

    Thanks for the review. 1st time to your channel. I'm now following. I've been checking out Walther PDP for a while now but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Now the steal frame is out, I'll really wanting the 4 in version. If a smaller one comes out, I think it would conceal better with my body type...chunky... the 4 in seems comparable to the Glock 19 I hope. G19 awesome carry choice for me. I like the flex of the polymer frame, what reallrsold mu on the Golck was Chuck Taylor's decades long test of a Glock...lost round count I read was something over 330,000 rounds. great information as he went over each failure and a remedy to mitigate that particular problem, I would highly recommend checking out Chuck Taylor's work with the Glock pistol.

    The Holosun eps (and probably the eps carry) will co-witness with the stock sights. It’s like a lower 1/10 or something, like the sights are at the very bottom of the optic, but it works and I actually kinda prefer the sight picture. That is on Walther about the frame and slide compatibility. They do need to say a bit better only within a series. I have the 5 inch compact and am thinking of getting the 4 inch model. My biggest gripe is my 5 inch has the 1.0 optic cut that really sucks. No matter what I do my optic comes loose even with blue lock tight. The C and H plate is not great they use without having more engagement with the slide and the gap in the rear.

    My local shop has the pro sd 5.1 (polymer) for $679. Seems like it has a better trigger than the steel frame models (excluding the match model) also with the flared magwell and 5.1” threaded barrel. With that being said do you think the steel frame 4.5 would be worth more than double the price point of the pdp pro sd in this situation? If I wanted to upgrade the steel frame 4.5 to have the same features as the polymer pro sd by putting in the better Walther trigger, magwell, base plates and threaded barrel, it would almost triple the $679 price tag of the pdp pro sd polymer. What’s your thoughts?

I like Canik pistols quite a bit as well. I can take the Canik TP9-SFX slide and put it on the Walther PDP 5" grip and vice versa. Also Canik Mags work in the PDP and vice versa. Recoil springs largely identical. Not sure why anyone would swap the slides other than for fun or to see which barrel shoots better all things being equal but it's kind of interesting. Gonna throw my two cents in I bought the PDP full size 4 1/2 inch after watching reviews and everybody ranting and raving about it. Was anxious to get it home and throw my optic of choice on it and start shooting but turns out I have to wait to get an adapter plate mailed to me. And to be honest my Springfield Echelon is better in every way minus the trigger although even though the walther is a little better trigger I like that the Echelon is a trigger pack and modular so I can swap frames and such. I like the slide serrations on the Echelon better the grip texture is better and it will take just about every optic made with no plate out of the box! I’m not saying the PDP is not a really nice gun it’s just a little over hyped. Was very disappointed with having to mail away for a plate the reviews I watched said it came with plates and to top it off when ordering I screwed up on the form and ordered the wrong totally on me but I immediately called customer service to see if I could get them to change the order and sat on hold for 40 minutes only to get transferred to a survey asking if my problem was solved without ever talking to a person! Tried calling back next day this time left my number to get a call back and still waiting. So yea I’m gonna say customer service and support is a big negative.

      Honestly your comments indicate more of a personal preference and subjective measures.
      Those are very real and are important but impossible to objectively assess. With every gear review I try very hard to maintain objectivity and not focus on personal preferences as it’s not fair to the product nor is it fair to project my preferences onto other people. That is a formula for disaster and a loss of credibility.
      I personally hate the ergos of Glocks, the way they look and several other characteristics/features like their sites. That said, it’s a quality gun that probably has the best reliability and hard use track record around. They have the most simple mechanics and are the AK47 of the handgun world.
      There’s also a LOT of what I would consider fair and honest negative reviews of the Echelon (I haven’t tested or even shot one)…
      Point being, don’t conflate objective performance and features with personal preference.
