You know when you hear a song and dont remember where it was from welp I've been trying to find this for a week and I just happen to remember this name and gave it a go!
At that last hold at 2:23, is that colossal base foundation coming totally from the contras?! 😨 Or is that some synth too? I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if the contras could produce a sound that incredible because you know, did you hear the contra feature in the next movement?! Such an impressive horn line the Bluecoats have! My dream corp😍 It's rare you can actually distinctly hear the base loud and clear in a nothing held back hold like this from the entire corps, at least in my experience.
Yup I guess so. For real though Bluecoats do wonderful things with their contras. Other corps just leave them in the background but BC puts them in the spotlight
I know. I don't know if they have the best contras in DCI, but they do utilize them the best. it's my goal to be part of their contraline before I age out.
If they're not the best than very few corps have superior contras. More power to ya bro, do Bluecoats! I would seriously consider auditioning for the trumpets but it's just TOO much money. As much I LOVE DCI I can't justify spending a large chunk of my college tuition on it. It makes me sad that I have to choose between what I would love to do with what I need to do, not that I won't enjoy college cause I will. Going into my final year of High School marching band here in North Central Texas, aka High School Marching band headquarters( srsly did you see the results from BOA Grand Nationals last year? 5 Texas bands went and 3 made finals 2 of which are in my area that We frequently compete against. That's the best showing from any single state I believe) I'm going to cherish every moment of it.
Dude, fundraise like crazy. Set up a gofundme, get together with some people and hold a carwash or something, like, at least try it. If you don't march and you really want to, you'll regret it. And yeah, as a fellow Texan, our bands are the best. haha
Of course it's a beautiful melody, but the song was really meant (in my opinion, anyways) as a message, and really loses a lot without lyrics. Great arrangement however.
"the song was really meant (in my opinion, anyways) as a message, and really loses a lot without lyrics" Exactly. The message is "You were owned by your preachers, teachers, communities and parents, and because they taught you so well, now you're being owned by governments and corporations in exactly the same way. They've made you so hip to that message that you'll kill or die for them". You don't even know anything about them. Are you *willing* to be their slave and cannon-fodder without knowing WHY?
What most people don't get is that Vienna Teng (the writer of this song) was writing about the nationalist government and corporate communications algorithms that were later used to wage the 2016 Presidential election: it's about humans online who respond to it all like robots because it's how they've been programmed since they were born and they're to blind to look outside the program. A beautiful melody by a great composer... but the song's lyric is about how people who hate can be made *proud* of it by knowing them online and feeding their hatreds. Just so you know the lyrics: Somebody hears you. you know that. you know that. Somebody hears you. you know that inside. Someone is learning the colors of all your moods, to (Say just the right thing and) show that you're understood. Here you're known. Leave your life open. you don't have. you don't have. Leave your life open. you don't have to hide. Someone is gathering every crumb you drop, these (Mindless decisions and) moments you long forgot. Keep them all. Let our formulas find your soul. We'll divine your artesian source (in your mind), Marshal feed and force (our machines will) To design you a perfect love Or (better still) a perfect lust. O how glorious, glorious: a brand new need is born. Now we possess you. you'll own that. you'll own that. Now we possess you. you'll own that in time. Now we will build you an endlessly upward world, (Reach in your pocket) embrace you for all you're worth. Is that wrong? Isn't this what you want? Amen.
This is pretty cool! Does anybody know how they wound up picking this song? I coming to this as a Vienna Teng fan, I know next to nothing about drum corps.
You really should try watching some more Drum Corps videos and maybe even going to a live show. It's an incredible experience. As to the music choice, I am honestly amazed at the ability of these Corps to find exactly the right music. They play a lot of classical music but also some things like this or (last year) Woods by Bon Iver. I think they somehow just look through every single piece of audio on the internet!
If you know Vienna... you know that she's disgusted by this thing being adopted by military-style *anything*. This song is a triumphant fascist DIRGE in celebration of the death of human individuality, privacy and choice... and it's aim is to wake people up to the fact that the USA has been headed in that direction for way too long.
Ok so I really wanna march of a dci corps when I get older but I'm playing a wind instrument when should I start learning a brass instrument?? (Going into 9th grade)
No you dont. To get into a world class you do but you really dont need to know it that well for open class. You do however need to be a really good marcher in order to make up for that fact. The euphonium section leader in mcdc 2012 was a flute player who had never played euphonium and hasnt still so...
My band director is a previous Bluecoats member, and he tells us all about entering cores. You must be.good at your instrument, you must be good at marching, and you must have experience in another core.
If you're starting with a completely new instrument, I'd recommend start taking classes for that or ask your band director for tips about learning a second instrument in class (some bands allow students to learn two in school) but if you're too caught up, or want to really work on a new instrument, join an open class Corp that can teach you your instrument throughout the year, they are also way more lenient on tuition.

I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if the contras could produce a sound that incredible because you know, did you hear the contra feature in the next movement?! Such an impressive horn line the Bluecoats have! My dream corp😍
It's rare you can actually distinctly hear the base loud and clear in a nothing held back hold like this from the entire corps, at least in my experience.
+Brick tator Sounded like almost pure contra to me. Might have been a little synth to back it up but mostly contras.
And yeah, as a fellow Texan, our bands are the best. haha
Put this show in any year other then this year and it would’ve won
Of course it's a beautiful melody, but the song was really meant (in my opinion, anyways) as a message, and really loses a lot without lyrics. Great arrangement however.
What do you mean it doesn't have any lyrics? 2:39
If a song is nothing without its lyrics it was never anything at all.
It's a disturbing hymn
You can read the lyrics here. It's about data mining. th-cam.com/video/F7P2ViCRObs/w-d-xo.html
"the song was really meant (in my opinion, anyways) as a message, and really loses a lot without lyrics"
Exactly.
My band is playing part of this in our show this year I am so excited
Not gonna lie, I almost got a little choked up. Good shit 🙌
this moment is one of many drum corps moments that remind me of how great DCI is.
That first hit is just too good. Goosebumps everytime
We're playing this song this year. It sounds dope asf.
Ahhh 😍😍😍😍😍😍
man, i wish they were doing Tilt Remastered for 2021 ngl
WHAT DOES THE GUY YELL AT 2:39???
GREAT PIECE BY THE WAY
Six Words, the "nickname" of the secret Bluecoats motto
He very clearly says ''Snack Bar''
Because this ballad was tasty
@@brentonsmith3901 At least he didn't yell "Oh my God...the baby's burning" or "Cryyysstttaaaaalllllll...."
I will always get chill bumps at 1:44.
I think I would cry if I heard this in person
still my favorite.
2:14 play the pedal Ab with all that. Sounds so good!
me and my highschool are playing this next year in our show!
Just so you know the lyrics:
Somebody hears you. you know that. you know that.
Somebody hears you. you know that inside.
Someone is learning the colors of all your moods, to
(Say just the right thing and) show that you're understood.
Here you're known.
Leave your life open. you don't have. you don't have.
Leave your life open. you don't have to hide.
Someone is gathering every crumb you drop, these
(Mindless decisions and) moments you long forgot.
Keep them all.
Let our formulas find your soul.
We'll divine your artesian source (in your mind),
Marshal feed and force (our machines will)
To design you a perfect love
Or (better still) a perfect lust.
O how glorious, glorious: a brand new need is born.
Now we possess you. you'll own that. you'll own that.
Now we possess you. you'll own that in time.
Now we will build you an endlessly upward world,
(Reach in your pocket) embrace you for all you're worth.
Is that wrong?
Isn't this what you want?
Amen.
1:40 gets me every time🔥🔥
That part still to this day is in my top 3 dci moments, such a beautiful sound! I can only imagine how it would have been to hear live
2:23 goose bumps! just amazing
1:42 gives me chills every single time
This is my ballad this year
This is pretty cool!
@@dawsonburnes little did you know what they would get by picking those when you said this.
2:24
What a wall of sound
If only the lead trumpets could play a double Bb there too
as a trumpet player. i agree and disagree. such a beautiful sound like that could be either better or cheapened by that
@@elijahcrosby786 Yeah obviously it would have to be perfect if that were the case
In those situations there is never room for error
Favorite ballad of all time hands down
This is the balladiest ballad ever
We used Hymn of Axion for our show aswell.
This is why they went from 5th to 2nd at finals.
2nd in 2014; 3rd in 2015 with this show (4th in semifinals).
Favorite Balleds are this and BD 2017
Who’s still here?
i was today's years old when i learned what the song was about
now we will build you an endlessly upward world,
(reach in your pocket) embrace you for all you’re worth.
I'm playing this song in my band show!
the moment everyone has been waiting for: 1:40
Actually cried
Love this song gooo Bloo
30 people are from the 11 other corps from Finals that year
That could at the is nice an all but is 1:27 where it's at. That shit is so good
luv
Honestly, I'll take this show over Crown 2015 anyday
awesomerikd168 Noooo crown was amazing in 2015
Both were fantastic. This one was more innovative while Inferno was just solid, classical music.
i played this piece on a workshop with derek gipson. so awesome even if u play this :o
Ok so I really wanna march of a dci corps when I get older but I'm playing a wind instrument when should I start learning a brass instrument?? (Going into 9th grade)
Spectro Gaming NOW! you have to be really good at your horn to get into a core
You must be.good at your instrument, you must be good at marching, and you must have experience in another core.
mason harris boi, how are you supposed to have experience in another CORP* If you’ve never done it... smh
GWA is playing this song in their/our 2017 show. Forbidden
