I remember reading an internet post many years from a 1989 Vanguard member about that hit. They were in the tunnel getting ready to come on and his stomach became a brick of lead when he heard that hit and the audience response because he was sure that Regiment had just scooped the title out from under them.
Listen at 4:54. That is corps staff yelling out. It is a perfect moment for this production. This is by far the best show that never won the gold. It's the best of the best and will always be remembered as the night that was stolen from PR. 2008 Spartacus is a moment in time and can't be taken away, ever. This night, in 89", was stolen from PR though, it will always be their masterwork. They took visual and 2 brass captions that night. They also introduced the wedge that season. It's a masterpiece. Secretly, I hummed this entire show years thereafter.

It’s both giving the Corp a bigger talent pool and letting more people enjoy the amazing experiences and opportunities that dci gives them. What’s wrong with that? Edit: plus without letting girls in color guard, almost all drum corps wouldn’t be able to fill all of the spots that they want to.

My dad directed the Columbians Drum Corps in the 50s and 60s from Pasco Washington took 5th in Vegas in 1962. I have enjoyed all drum corps things my whole life. I see there is a lot more theatrical production now and not so many restrictions It's definitely different. But the thrill is still the same love love love watching all of them. Sorry but no marching band will ever thrill the audience like a drum corps does. Congratulations to everyone on the corps. Love you
Cavaliers 2002: Not the show America deserved after 9/11 per se, but the one we sure as HELL needed. It took marching perfection back to basics, proved that on-field simplicity done incredibly well beats messy complexity, and showed the absolute MACHO intensity of the rebuilding American people and their unified post-9/11 comeback. Perfection.

I play marimba for the lakewood highschool bengal regiment. I started in auxiliary my freshman year with 0 music experience. Then vibes my sophomore year and most recently marimba.
I have never heard such smooth and gorgeous sounds come from a trumpet (High school band wise). In all honesty, this is awesome! It's amazing to watch!

This is twice I've seen you comment on a DCI video. Let me rebuttal your comment by saying they may not wail like they used to, but they are a HELL of a lot more entertaining story and visual wise. I mean.. The first video is like a minute long trumpet solo... Just trumpet. Now, I am a fan of talent and DCI and music in general, but after about 15-30 seconds, I get bored of the just a trumpet player. Yeah, what came AFTER the solo is incredible, and his wailing and whatnot was pure talent, just not my taste.
I will admit that some of the new stuff is genuinely unbelievably good. Tilt, Angels/Demons, Babylon, Relentless, Metamorph, all are incredibly good works of art. But I do agree with you that shows like Ink, Ghostlight, and Cabaret Voltaire shouldn't just be skyrocketed to 1st place cuz BD.
One thing I think has improved over the years is creativity with color Gaurd I really don’t pay attention to them much at all but before it was more generic and it just seems more creative all around
Being a guard member I have to say the skill set in a top world class guard today doesn’t even compare to one in the early days of dci. It’s a comply different activity not just band wise but also guard wise. I mean at 0:50 what they’re doing is literally just a basics exercise now a days. It’d be like doing a scale as the music for a show.
Also that basics exercise has many more complicated versions and what they’re doing is by far the easiest and they don’t even end it how you would normally do to end it now a days. They’re way of stopping it is also way easier.
Personally I wished Madison Scouts 1986 was on here. I did realize that good footage of the show has either been lost to history or is hard to find but there is 1 moment in the show that is absolutely amazing
I would offer suggestions but I'm not knowledgable on decades ago DCI 😂 Though I might add that it would be cool to see Corp specific highlights. That is, highlights from Carolina Crown shows over the years or Blue Devils shows over the years etc.
Michael Webster any crown show from 2009 and on can make it on here in my opinion especially the more recent years, they play some difficulty stuff so clean! That's my opinion though
