Fly Tying: The Micro Clouser! A big fish magnet!

- Flies don't have to be complicated to be effective and the Micro Clouser proves it! I recently went to Cape Cod with my fly fishing club and we saw clouds of small silversides and sand eels moving on and off the flats. I started by casting a traditional Clouser ( ~3" to 4") and the fish did not cooperate, in fact, some would turn and run when they saw the flies! Late that evening after cracking a beer, I decided to go micro and man-oh-man am I glad I did, because once the Micro Clouser hit the water the fish couldn't resist! In fact, I saw stripers and bluefish move across the flats to eat the fly! I fished MC's in black, chartreuse and the combo in this video and together they accounted for 80+ schoolies, bluefish, shad and bunker! My arm and Echo SR #3 has never been tested harder and I can't wait to do it again!

The original clouser minnow has been a staple in fly boxes since 1987 when the legend Bob Clouser invented it. Thank you Bob for making such an amazing fly!

Nailed a flounder in this tie, it’s amazing. Your so right about that belly too
Right?! Flounder so cool and congratulations! This is one of my favorite flies in the salt and fresh water. Doesnt have to be big to be productive!
I loved some of your tips. Shout out to FTD!
Love FTD!!
Great fly! Great video too.
Your use of dubbing as long fibers was a lightbulb moment for me. Thank you!
This is going to be killer for freshwater striper and white bass in Central Texas.
So glad you enjoyed it! It's my go to for stripers and many other fish!
Thanks for sharing. I really like the way that you add all the information below, very easy to understand and source the products required. Thank you
Thanks Trevor, I’m just a guy who loves to fly fish and share!
Great fly, alive even when out of the water.
This fly rocks, I use it for so many different species!
Wow, you are truly a master at combining different synthetics
Thanks! You are too kind! Just trying to fool some fish! 😉
@@TroutTornado I’m gonna tie some of these up and try them out on some panfish 😎
Great instruction
Thank you! So much fun to fish as well!!
Great job nice technique. I also find simplicity works that Ash
Thanks! I love this fly! So easy and productive!
Great tie. Agreed. Keep 'em sparse!
Thank you! They just love them!
Thanks!
Really appreciate it!!
Nice
Enjoy!
I felt a great disturbance in the surf, as if a hundred stripers struck at once, and then were released from whence they came…
LMAO! They have all grown up to be just a little wiser! :)
new to fly and this is nice and minimal clean ... what size eyes do you recommend using on hook sizes .. i see that you using a size 8 hook with med eye... im sure you can also use med eyes on size 4 to 6 also ? .... cant seem to find a chart online about this .. thanks
Yes! Eye sizes are 100% dependent on how fast or slow you want the drop. In this case the eyes are small and with the material the drop speed is medium. I'd recommend buying one pack of medium and large eyes and tying one and going to your local pond and watching the drop. Also remember more material=slower drop. Play with your design and you'll be happy!
@@TroutTornado thanks
Great looking fly. Do you buy all the material from one fly shop? I'm finding that I have to jump around to different shops. If you have a shop where they have all the material can you share with us a link? Also I'm not finding the Veevus thread listed as a 100. I'm seeing a lot of Veevus thread but nothing listed as a 100. Thank you.
No, I have to buy materials from all over the web. There's just no place for one stop shopping unfortunately. Look for GSP, Vevus, comes in 50, 100, 200. It's the total number of strands in the thread. Good luck!
Great fly! how long is it?
1 and 1/2 in long!
I'm intrigued. What is the overall length? thanks
Inch and a half to 2 in...tie A couple you'll be happy
What size tippet do you recommend for a size 8 hook? Thanks@@TroutTornado
Thanks!
Such an amazing fly!
