I did my first ``lighting gig`` at a wedding and i learned pretty much all my dmx from your videos (i just realized that i watch this chanel for about a year)
Appreciate you watching! It's really fun designing shows on the computer and then seeing them come to life. I've been pretty happy with the simple (and free) ShowBuddy visualizer.
That's really interesting and kind of cool. I've heard that people on the spectrum make really good programmers so you should download the free version of Show Buddy Active and start programming what you see in your head!
Great. That´s what I´m looking for. To see how my lightning seems on the scene, and do changes before liveversion. Thank´s bud for your video....have skipped "On Go" for Vibrio instead to create scenes.
Cool! There are a lot of different ways to visualize shows and a variety of software options. This one is very basic, but I do like the way it runs as a plugin and can integrate with other MIDI enabled apps (like Vibrio) Appreciate you watching!

To output the DMX data from the PC you need a compatible DMX interface. The Show Buddy Active website says any of these will work: Enttec PRO compatible interfaces (e.g. DMX USB PRO, PRO Mk2, DMXIS) Enttec Open DMX compatible interfaces Any Art-Net to DMX node.
@@LearnLizard thank you for your reply is much appreciated but is it possible if you could give me a list of compatible leads from Amazon or eBay as I'm just started out doing this Once again thank you for your help much appreciated thank you
Pretty cool, though I am not sure exactly what red line tools was for. If you created the image in Photoshop, can't you just export it from photoshop? Looks like just the .png and lower the opacity some.
I had to use red line tools to overlay the photoshop image of the rig, over the real time simulation on the screen. Maybe there is a better way to do it but that was the only way I could figure out. Appreciate you watching!
Hi! Great video, i've learned about midi and DMX with you. Right now, I program all my lights in Cubase and connect it with my rig through Enttec DMXiS. Would this setup work easily with Showbuddy?
Although I personally haven't tried running the Show Buddy Active plug-n in Cubase, it should work the same way as in Logic. (and the Enttec interface should work as well) Let me know how it goes if you have a chance- I'd like to know.
Show Buddy Active lets you map any controller as shown here: th-cam.com/video/_q0ZyGS0VWQ/w-d-xo.html Use the "Midi Learn" function and just play the note on your controller that you want to trigger the preset. Its actually easier than it looks and works great. Appreciate you watching!
Hi there, I am interested in using show buddy but I am having trouble selecting a fixture to match my lights. Can you help explain which fixtures to use for the lights you have in this video? I am using some of the same lights.
Hi- I ended up creating all my fixture profiles using the DMXIS online fixture editor. You can learn all about it here: www.dmxis.com/tag/fixtures/ It's actually pretty easy. I can send you my profiles if you want them- just send me an email with the ones you want. Thanks!
HI Sir, I would like to know about Show Buddy and Show Buddy Active. Do I need to buy both of the software for Song Synchronization with the lighting? I am a little bit confuse. Tq
Its a little bit confusing... Show Buddy came first and basically does the same thing but you have to use it with ENTTEC DMXIS hardware to control your lights. Show Buddy Active adds features and you can use it with any compatible Art-Net interface like the eDMX1 PRO like I am using in the video. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
When you buy the full version of SBA you would connect with an ethernet-to-DMX device like this: dmxking.com/artnetsacn/edmx1-pro To use just the demo as shown in this video, you would use MIDI interfaces. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Appreciate the kind words! All you need is an Ethernet DMX adapter like this: amzn.to/3hpgC0C You can use Show Buddy Active (full version) as shown in this video, or a whole variety of other apps that work on a Mac or PC. Thanks for watching!
Yes- If you purchase the full version it will work with USB to DMX interfaces (according to their website) I haven't tested myself. And once you have a DMX signal you can daisy chain as many lights as you want.
@@LearnLizard I guess I should be a bit more specific, I understand how to make the file for the lights themselves. It's just getting the file to work in showbuddy active that I don't exactly understand.
@@mrfergee63 Oh I see- Well its definitely unintuitive and it took me a while to find: To install a new fixture file, copy it here: Mac : /Library/Application Support/db audioware/Show Buddy Active/DmxLibrary Windows : C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\db-audioware\Show Buddy Active\DmxLibrary Hope that helps
If you send me an email at learnlizard@gmail.com I'll send you the link to the psd. Also, I just checked and Red Lines Tools comes up for me on the App Store. You have a Mac right?
I want to spend a lot more time with QLC+, but one huge draw for me with Show Buddy Active is that it runs as a plug in in Logic Pro. It makes it easy to add lighting control in sync to audio in a DAW. But the previews for QLC+ 5 look incredible especially with its 3D visualizer-- and you have to love its price :)
Sir, So you said that the program has to connected with a hardware, I mean the program, for example, can`t be created, and then burnt later in the hardware, like arduino for instance.
Yes that's right. When you create a show in Show Buddy Active you would save it to the hard drive of your computer. I don't know of any way to store it on a hardware chip.
Maybe I got this wrong? You have to build your show in Show Buddy? Is it possible to have a show build in vibrio and then have it visualized in Show Buddy without having to create the show in Show Buddy? Export dmx or midi from vibrio?
That's a really good question. Vibrio can launch scenes and sequences when it receives MIDI commands but it can't send MIDI. By creating duplicate scenes in SBA and Vibrio you can use a MIDI sequencer (like Logic Pro) to trigger the scenes on each. I know its convoluted, but its a budget friendly way to see what a simple show will look like if you are willing to put in the time.
Good question, It has an option to show video, so one thing I have done is capture screen grabs of my laser patterns and import them in. Its not perfect, but it can give you an idea of how they will look live.
Yes- That is what Show Buddy Active is actually designed for. In order to output DMX you need to buy the full version (upgrade from the free demo) and add an Ethernet to DMX converter like this: dmxking.com/artnetsacn/edmx1-pro Then you will be outputting your shows straight to DMX. Thanks for watching!
Well that's a good point. The software is free to download and play around with, but you need to buy the full version (and a DMX interface) to run your rig. Appreciate you watching!
Good question- it took me a while to figure this one out! When you send the very lowest MIDI note (C -2) it triggers the first preset in the stack. One note higher (C# -2) triggers the second preset and so on. Luckily you can reorder the presets in Show Buddy to fit your needs. Hope that helps and good luck!
