  • The first video in my DMX For Dummies. Learning how to program DMX will improve your lighting, and instantly transform your DJ and band performances. In this video, I go over what is DMX? What's a DMX Controller? How do you control a DMX fixture? What is a Dmx to USB interface? What is the DMX protocol? In this tutorial, I go over these high level topics, as well as a live demonstration. Learning DMX can be daunting, and I'm hoping to make it easier.

    Wow. Thank you for such a clear concise tutorial.
    I'm brand new to DMX-ing and was starting to feel overwhelmed. So far this looks like just the series I've been looking for, a strait forward honest instructional. I liked, subscribed and will be sharing this series. Thank you sir.

    The DMX universe is fascinating. I do wonder though why the advancement of the technology has mainly flatlined ever since its inception. There’s software and new controllers out there that help simplify and save time on some things but there’s still a lack of standardization on a lot of things and a refined approach towards setup that doesn’t require the hours of manual labor that go into lighting and effects. I wonder if the base technology is as effective as it gets. But it can’t be right!?

    Good video, but I do have to point out that DMX does not send all 512 values of data "simultaniously". DMX is a digial serial protocol, meaning that one bit is sent at a time, but at a very fast speed. It would be more accurate to say that DMX sends all 512 channels in each message (as each channel contains several values usually). But this is also misleading as DMX will only send a channel if there is information to send, as it is not an automatic protocol that updates all the lights at a certain frequency. Instead DMX updates the light "on-demand" once a new message needs to be sent. While this all does not matter too much usually, knowing exactually how the protocol operates on the communication level is very helpful when troubleshooting odd behaviour.

    Finally! After looking at other sources regarding DMX and still being confused, I am actually starting to understand! I am Kid's Pastor at my church and want to do more with "fun" lighting. I have several PARs and just bought a "dance light" which has some functions that aren't available unless DMX controller is used. I don't have a lot of money. But I will have to invest in DMX controller. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you again.

      DMX to USB cable is probably the easiest way. QLC+ is a free software that I like. You can also use a hardware amzn.to/45FuoEY

    Hi! I have an inquiry. Recently I’ve joined the world of lightning and I’m pretty much new in this area. I work on a big place where there is a pilot 2000 and multiple dmx splitters, 6 beam 200, around 8 Par leds and many other led lights. It’s all already configured and programmed to the pilot. My cuestión is there any software that I can instal on my computer that can make me manage and obtain all the data for each channel of the setup using a USB Dmx interface? Please help. Many thanks for all the videos!!

    If you are using Soundswitch does it matter if you put your lights on channel 4 or channel 36?

    • @DJDarylBennett
      @DJDarylBennett  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Depends on what you want to do with your fixture. But for the most part, more channels equates to more built-in macros accessible via DMX. You don't need those macros a lot of the time with the soundswitch functionality

      Lol! I’m having the same problem. DMX seems to be unknowable to me. We just bought a budget DMX system and I’m hoping a hands-on approach will make more sense (or that another band member is smarter than I).
