    You also tied the knot in the wrong direction. You're pulling the main line in the opposite direction of how the line winds and tightens around the spool.

      good eye! yeah looping it in the opposite direction would pull against the knot tighter👍🏼 will pin for visibility.

    Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

    I've just always put a loop in my line, tie it off with an overhand knot, then created a larks head with the loop and main line, slip that over the spool (with the bail open), close the spool and then start reeling. If the larks head loop just slides around the spool, it's on backwards. Not a big deal, just open the bail, take it back off of the spool and flip it over. Sounds more complicated than it really is. I could do 4 or 5 in the time it takes to do this.

    The knot at the spool isn't really important. Ive even used tape to stick my line to my spool. If your concerned you might get spooled you aren't using the correct equipment for the specific fish you are after. For me the most important aspect of your spool knot is the size of the knot and how it lays. A big knot can really screw up how your line lays and spools on and off the reel. Just my 2 cents.

    I also use tape and been doing it for 50 years. I take duct tape because it has a tiny bit of cushion or depth to prevent the line from slipping, then u can use any sensible knot that is not very big so it will not interfere with any other line wraps. Just take a few inches of duct tape and split it with scissors the approximate width of the bottom of the spool, and then wrap it around the spool core trying to get just one full wrap and that none or very little of the tape is up the side of the spool. Btw the reel I use and the best I have ever owned in 50 years of fishing. Diawa Fuego LT 3000 D-C and 4000D-C. Got 6 of them and use them exclusively in salt water and brackish water for fish up to 15 lb so far.

    Can this knot be used on braided line without any backing?

      @ishwithfish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i haven't gone out much tbh, i know beach access is tough because most coastal parking is blocked and launches are closed.

    Great tutorial! One thing to note is what you use to lubricate your line. Most people use spit but remember that saliva is meant break down protein and well...mono has protein in it so you will be effectively weakening it over time. Use plain water and you'll get the same results. Tight lines

      never knew that, protein in mono? thx for the tip👍🏼

      @@ishwithfish Mono doesn't have protein in it

      Human saliva doesn't break down protein. It breaks down carbohydrates.

    Noob fisher here.. First time I've gotten a knot to stick the first time. Wetting the knot is definitely a step I've always missed. 👍

    Why did you doing a knot on the spool? if you have a special hole on the spool for spooling line, the knot suppose to be inside of the spool for perfect line winding.

    Is this knot good to use with braid line? Just wanna make sure before I try to spool
