- In this video I show you the how to put line on your spinning reel. This is the easiest way to spool your reel if you're a beginner. Spinning rod and reel combos are one of the most common type of fishing combos for beginners. They are familiar and relatively easy to operate for most new anglers. When I bought my first rod and reel combo not too long ago, it had no line on it and I struggled for a few days on the fastest and easiest way for to put line on my spinning reel correctly. After trying a ton of different methods on how to spool a spinning reel, I settled on this one. It's super easy, great for beginners who want to learn how to spool their spinning reel on their own with no help. The way I secure my line works great and I've had no issues except for when I try to take my line off I actually have to cut the knot that I've tied. @@RamonOutdoorsthis is my 4th or 5th video and I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I have restarted a good 9-10 times and the line just won’t spool around the reel. It just spins and ultimately twists the line. It’s an older, cheap reel, but I definitely feel like the problem is with me and not the reel itself.

The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!

I’ve been trying to line my Ugly Stik for hours and it just keeps coming off the reel and nesting up. I’m new to fishing but this is the most difficult shit I’ve ever done lol. I’m gonna have to bring it in to have someone do it for me
Sounds like you have a lot of memory in your line. Try running it under hot water and make sure not to overfill your reel.
I've had issues with the Ugly Stik as well, my Braided line doesn't want to hug the rod even though I've tied a tight knot that is on perfectly tight.
What I guess I really need is an explanation you would give to 5 year old because the only thing I've caught today is frustration
@@ginichimaru001 try using a few yards of mono backing and then tie on your braided line. Or you can use electrical tape to keep your line in place.

Whoever makes braided line needs to make the first end out of the reel kinda sticky, ngl.

The line should come off the spool counter clockwise onto your reel.

Depends on a few things, the weight of your lure, the weight of your line, and the length of your rod. All of those things can impact your casting distance.

Watched lots of videos on putting line on reel. There’s got to be secrets. I end up with a wad and I’m pretty detailed in following instructions

@@RamonOutdoors I was just frustrated. I.tried to reel it in and it started unfurling and go around the outside of the reel, etc. I put the whole spool in water and kept lighter tension on it and it went in ok.
Then I started practicing casting and got it caught up in a tree, just received my pole today and just snapped my pole today. I guess I better slow down, lol I have to now.
It has been 10+ years since I’ve fished, my grandpa used to pull us out of school to go fishing

I wish I watched this video before I put line on. My grandad gave me some mono(I usually use braid). I went fishing today with the mono. Hated every second of it. But I don’t want to waste the line. Is there a way to fix this or do I just have to cut it off???
If you have a spare reel or the spool that had the mono on it you can take it off that way without ruining your line. Just tie to the spool and wind it up that way and then respool it. Kind of a pain to do, but if you don't want to waste the mono then this is how you can save it.
I just bought an US GX2 yesterday and my reel handle isn’t turning. Am I missing something or is it broken?
Take a look at some diagrams online and make sure they look correct. I know sometimes when they ship them they fold the handle in and it won’t turn.
What are you using 10 pound mono for?
In general? I use it for my cranking set ups.
I used it in this video for visibility. Wanted to make sure you could see the line.

Keep the tension on it and tie a lure or weight. It’s on the very very last step. If you just do a hook you have to use the hook keeper

I got the same fishing pole. I seen the reviews on TH-cam so I bought it. My Ugly Stick flies into pieces when I cast it sometimes. No matter how hard I push the poles together, it will randomly fly into pieces.
I knew it was going to do it before I bought the fishing pole too.. It's 4 pieces.
I'm thinking of using Gorilla Glue tape on the sections to hold the pole together..
I've never had a 4 Piece, that might help, but it shouldn't do that. Might want to return it for a different one.

So it depends on what you mean by "didn't add enough line."
If you only filled up half or more of the spool, you can just fish it like that until you have a quarter of the spool left.
If you have a quarter or less of the spool filled then yes you can just use that as backing. I do this for my ultralight reels. I will spool on some 4lb test first and then use a joining knot to put on my 2lb test line.
Basically if you filled up half or more, just fish it. Your casting distance might be shorter, but it wont be terrible.
If you filled up a quarter or less tie on more line.

Not a dumb question! Mono backing is basically filler line. If you're going to use braid it's always good to use either electrical tape on the reel or a little bit of monofilament line so that the braid doesn't slip.
Now the line keeps going under the reel what do I do then
Couple things you can do.
1. Run your line under hot water with it on your spool. I recommend putting tape on your line so it doesn't come off the reel and then taking the spool off your reel. Turn on the hot water in your sink and run it under that for 20-30 seconds. Warm water is fine, it doesn't have to be scolding hot. Make sure you hold on to the line while you do this because the tape will come off.
2. You can tie your line to a fence post or something sturdy and move back as far as you can and stretch your line out. This will make your line straighten out with a few tight pulls.
3. Take the line off and respool with the line coming off the line spool counter clockwise when you're putting it on your reel. This makes it so when you open your bail your line wants to go up over your reel and not under. I know not ideal to take all the line off you just put on, but if option 1 and 2 don't work this is your next step if you want to fix the issue.
If this is happening when you open your bail or when you cast, basically what is happening is your line has memory from the spool and it's making it bounce down the reel instead of up the reel. If you don't want do do any of the options above you fish without fixing it because eventually it will fix itself because the line will get new memory to the size of your reel. You will just need to manage your line so that you can fix properly.

Mine is a 12ibs can I put a 50ibs mines max I. The reel says 17ibs with something of yards
You could, but you might not be able to fit much line on it. If you want 50lb line, I would go with braided line and then tie on a leader line.

i’m having the same problem, i get the reel fully spooled and then when i tie my hook on and try to cast the hook just sits at the top of the pole and the line just comes off the reel not as it normally should it acts as if it’s coming of the spool the line came off of
i would assume it’s a memory issue with the line , should i try the warm water trick ?
@@JayyFishingFL How light is your hook? If you don't have enough weight on the end of your line it will not go anywhere and cause your line to go all crazy.

I got a new Southbend Proton 6'6, and its great for Bass (Largie, Smallie etc.) because my old Zebco spin cast reel broke completely. So quick question…I followed all you steps and I think I did pretty well following them but at the end when I open the reel a bit of the line comes out a bit and I have to pinch the line to fix it, Is that normal or did I do something wrong? Did you have a lure tied on?
It’s normal for some line to come off if there is nothing weighing it down or if there is no tension on the line.
It still has memory from the spool and will naturally want to come off. If you notice in my video I keep the line tight until I hook it on the hook keeper.

Yeah, if you can "flip" it down, that means it was open and now it is closed. If you can flip it up, that means it was closed and now it's opened. Take a look at the manual if your reel came with one.

1. check your drag. If it’s set too loose you’ll hear a sound like a gear grinding. Righty-tighty that thing to start reeling in.
2. Make sure the line is under your bail so that it’s actually getting wound in.
@@RamonOutdoors I tightened drag and it’s still not on there. I’m using braid and I saw that I either should put on some mono first or use electrical tape so i will update after i try those two options
AH BRAID! Yeah, I think I mention in my video that if you're using braid, some mono backing is helpful. I usually go the mono backing route.

50lb line on an ugly stick? Sure but I’m not sure how much. Depends on the size of your reel.
How do you know how much to put on your spool
There are usually line weight and yard guides on your reel. But I usually go by sight anyways. I mention this in the video

You could have also spooled your line clockwise instead of counter clockwise.

Sounds like you didn't have enough tension on the line while you were reeling it in. Just start over boss!
