We Bought the Cheapest Honda 3 Wheeler on Facebook & Made it Run + Rip!

  • 3 wheelers are AWESOME. I found that out today when Ike bought this non-running 1983 Honda ATC 200e for $340. We had to redo some wiring, put a new battery in it, install a fuel tank & carburetor, and the old Honda three wheeler fired right up. This three wheeler is a blast to ride! The 200cc Honda engine is plenty powerful with high and low range, and the tires are massive, giving it a ton of traction, and decent ride quality even though it doesn't have rear suspension. I need one for myself!

    Im 53 and class of 84...
    I had 3 wheelers through my teen years. 110, 200 , big red , even a 250r ..
    They were a blast.... In the turns you slide to the inside of the turn and hit the gas.. Slide or drift just like a four wheeler...

    I had an ATC 90, second year of production. Early ATC's had a hubless wheel and a stamped sheet metal frame. 2 speed gearbox worked well. The sheet metal frames failed if you were rough on them jumping and such. Mine was welded a dozen times. My gas tank also leaked like a sive through the seams by the seat.I JB welded that thing a hundred times. Gas burns your nuts BAD, trust me. After my original chevron tires went bald and had many tire fix plugs it was too much wrong so I sold it.

    I made an account just contribute to the long list of comments. Trikes and trike riders have been getting fewer and fewer every day it seems. You have a fantastic machine with great potential for a beautiful restoration. Everyone who comments to chop it into a mini bike or how it looks so dangerous has either never ridden or never taken the time to learn to ride one well. With respect and practice these old trikes are faster, more stable, and able to go places ATVs and even dirt bikes can only dream of. Out of an entire fleet of ranch vehicles ranging from big utilities to little sport quads and dirt bikes I still almost always grab my 1982 Honda ATC185S. Be safe, have fun, and long live the ATC!

    C’mon man, those things are NOT “death traps”! My first off roading years were spent on a Honda ATC, and other than the occasional over-exuberant wheelie flip, I never had a problem with them rolling. I’ll take a rigid ATC over a full-suspension 4-wheeler or dirtbike any. day. of the week.

    • @brettknoss486
      @brettknoss486 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The problem wasn't rolling, the problem is they lean like a motorcycle, but when you put your leg out, it gets caught in the back wheel and crushed.

    • @calvarycustoms6681
      @calvarycustoms6681 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      brett knoss Yeah, so I’ve heard.... hasn’t happened to me, though. I’d call that Operator Error, rather than an inherently dangerous design. Perhaps there should’ve been better communication from the dealers,; but to quit selling them because of occasional mishaps caused by poor operator skills was a total tragedy.
      Anyway, the later models had foot guards in front of the rear fenders, so that should’ve remedied the problem.

    I grew up riding a Honda ATC200M which was the Big Red's little brother without reverse. I rolled it only a couple times but sold it when I was 14. Incidentally, the guy I sold it to suffered a major brain injury while riding it. My next 3 wheeler was a Honda ATV250R. Imagine all the instability of the Big Red, but with double the power and triple the speed. That one tried to kill me several times but I survived. I wish I never sold it. This video brought back a lot of memories.

    I have both fond memories and nightmares about ATCs. In the early 1970s, one of my buddies had a first gen ATC 90 and we went EVERYWHERE on that thing. A few years later, my cousin got an ATC 110 that was stored on our farm. One day I was out ripping around the back 40 on it and I decided to try to climb the side of a big dirt irrigation canal. I flipped it ass-over-tea-kettle. I hit the ground, then the bike came down and hit me. The bike ended-up with a bent & cracked handlebar, and I had a bent & cracked elbow. Fun times!
