      @@ryanh3285it does make a difference, of course it does. Doesn’t mean you can’t be an excellent dribbler if you’re a bit on the taller side, there’s just a specific type of dribbling that most shorter players have thanks to their lower centre of gravity. They will generally have the agility and balance to turn direction quicker than a taller player and are hard to knock off the ball. If you’re tall it doesn’t matter too much how strong you are, if you’re off balance at any point you’re a lot more likely to get knocked completely off balance in comparison to small players

    Old school defenders I can’t rate as highly but to be an old school attacking player back in the day, I have to rate. Especially ZiZou. The toughness you have to endure to play back in the day and Zidane looked like a swan. So elegant when football was so rough .

    • @kayman1
      @kayman1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Old school defenders were what made the game great, and yes what made players like Zidane and Ronaldo great. So saying that you can’t rate them highly is essentially contradicting your own statement.

      @@kayman1old school defenders could get away with so much more than they can now. It’s crediting the attackers more bc they had to endure what the defenders could do to them back then.

      I share the exact same thoughts. Modern defenders and midfielders are far more athletic and technical, but not allowed to rough up the opposition. The positions are barely even comparable nowadays. Zidane was taking bumps and riding off them with the ball. Modern players hit the floor cos they know the ref will blow the whistle.
      I always say a ronaldo or messi may not have been that great if they played in the 70s, 80s and even 90s because who knows how they would react to those defenders. As a one off i imagine they just continue playing their game, but if its every week and the refs aren't handing out cards for minimal offences then i see their playstyles change or they have a lot of injuries and a shorter career.
      Zidane would take a bump and was still had complete control.

    People forget that putting aside both his incredible finesse and technique with the ball as well as his amazing ability to control games, Zidane was physically tough and slightly hot-headed as well. He got sent off many times including the most infamous one during the 2006 World Cup final.
    When Roy Keane said he is an angel next to someone like Zizou, you know the latter was truly something.
