Thank you for clearing out the mixing additives. Some people on here get to caught up on showing work but not focusing on the fundamentals ‼️ you covered everything perfectly.
I appreciate this video so much man. I've been an auto tech for years and, now I'm taking on fixing a deer incident on my own car. I have never done body work or mixed paint before and this helped me so much.
Teaching is a science and you my friend, have it down to a tee. I am a hardcore diagnostician. Done everything from electrical, mechanical, engine swaps, AC you name it. I purchased a vehicle from an auction and did everything else but the bodywork. I was a bit antsy until I watched your video. Thanks and Happy 4th!!!
Very good, simple to follow, and informational. I bought 3 paint products (base paint, pearl paint and some medium reducer) to paint a small area on my wife's SUV. The paint vendor was very vague about what to mix and how much. You video made it all very easy to understand, and why the ratio are what they are. Thank you very much!
OMG THX YOU THX U THX U!! I’ve watched so many Videos and you literally answered my question in the first product.. Base Coat!!! Ughhhh I’m in Love, Brilliant.. Thank you so very much❤️❤️
Have been repairing/spraying for 30 odd years and always used a measure stick, then used the drip test ! your vid makes it all clear now what I should have done !!! thanks
Awesome Video, I was so confused about this part, thank you for shedding some light for me. Can you please do one on sealer and epoxy. the way you explain makes it easy to comprehend. Thank you in advance
THanks that was helpful. We were trying to work out the Wanda mixing stick which has slightly different markings. We needed to make the paint to 4 :1:10%
Thank you so much I’ve recently got a new job and they have me painting wasn’t in the job description but I really enjoy it so much so that I bought a project car that I’m going to try paint myself always struggled with the mixing side of things ended up too strong or too thick but you’ve just explained everything so perfectly I understand it all so very much now and it’s because of you thank you so much !!!!!
Thank you so much for this teaching video. Your details were very much appreciated. Asking folks at the paint store you will not always get the correct guidance I learned a lot. Carry On Sir!
You can yes depends on the clear , it helps the clear thin out to be easier to spray and flow out easier usually you don’t want to reduce more than 10%
Thanks very much for the well organized video; everything is just perfect about this excellent lesson. Job Well Done! I have learned a lot, thanks Bro.
Great video best I’ve seen, but I’m a bit confused at the clear coat mixing stage you say a 4-1 ratio bit you mixed at 2-1 ? On the mixing cup 4 scale? Is that because your base coat is 2-1?
No worries the 2 line is the amount, so if it’s in a 2:1 ratio box and I put the paint up line 4 and fill to the next 4 it’s still a 2:1 ratio if that makes sense it’s just more amount
Depends on the brand of paint , each have there own way of reducing , and in some cases activating , some require special additives to mix in with and others are ready to spray . Sorry the answer is vague at best , but you can always refer to the TDS sheet for clarification
@@Mechaniclyfe thanks for getting back to me, the paint I'm gonna use is lechlers hydrofan water based, but I've only ever used solvent base coat before so I'm just a lil bit confused, really appreciate your help tho
Thank you for this video - very helpful. Question: If I buy a litre of clear coat in a paint shop, do I need to purchase hardener also to mix with the clear coat or is the hardened already mixed in the can of clear coat. I desperately need help. Thank you.
Also they make 2k clear coat in a spray can , that has a bladder inside that you pop and it mixes hardner in the paint can it’s called spraymax clearcoat on Amazon
Can I use mica powder pigment to basecoat to deepen the color. I understand they are used in clear coats but I’m wondering if I can put them in the base coat paint?
Best way to do that is using an intercoat, basically a clear base coat that you add your pearls or effect, then clear on top, it can work with adding it to the base coat but it’s a bit of a waster because they get drowned out by the base color , you would need to add a lot of pearl or mica to get the same effect.
15+ years ago I used to do on site auto body. Was mostly bumpers for dealerships so used cars looked less banged up for sales. We would custom mix the paint for each vehicle by looking up the paint code and entering it into an app on a blackberry. The app would give us all the mix ratios for each paint and metal flake by weight starting with the most used in production and then other mixes that were used during that year. I had made an entire rack to separate out the colors and flakes by their number. Does anyone know what the app was or one like that? I have been curious about doing some custom stuff in my spare time since I miss doing it but not enough for a full-time job
@@Mechaniclyfe well that's a start! Thank you! I am sure that everything out there will be company specific so that you stick with their mixes. Though through time I am sure you could custom mix as you like. But to match an existing it would probably be best to follow that companies recipe
Hi bro i like u r video but i have a problem here no candy colour avelible my question is this how i can make candy green candy red yellow and more of candy colours
awesome video thaanks , i have a question tho about primers if im having a bare metal piece i need to use epoxy primer or self etching primer , and put over them 2k primer ? and how a bout a non bare metal piece what should i use before base coat ? thanks again
Depending , you can use either epoxy or self etch to bare metal. With some epoxy primers you can go straight to Basecoat, but there is a window to be able to do that, after that window it must be sanded Before applying Basecoat. High build primer can be used for Body panels that had body work done. If the panel is nice and flat with no dents, you could even use a sealer before applying Basecoat or sand and apply Basecoat right on top of the original paint as long as the paint wasn’t peeling .again depends on surface and body work needed.
Yes you would need a flattening agent which is an additional additive to add to the clear coat, ratio will vary on product , but usually in most cases you add till you achieve your desired finish
After mixing the paint, is there a certain amount of time you need to wait before you start spraying or can you spray right away, or does it all depend on the particular paint/reducer/hardener you're using?
You have no idea how helpful this was, took me about a week to finally find what I needed to know!
Probably the best paint mix tutorial for beginners I have seen on youtube, THANKS!!!
Thank you for your comment

Good 👍
Thank you for this video. I needed this tutorial to get started.
this is the best video ever thank you.

Extremely perfect explanation, thanks a lot.
would you use a reducer on a clear coat? is that even normal?
You can yes depends on the clear , it helps the clear thin out to be easier to spray and flow out easier usually you don’t want to reduce more than 10%
But there are some clears that go as high as 20% reduced
Thanks we'll done ✅. 💯

Best explained video out there good job thanks a lot
Thank you sir
Great video step by step lesson! Teach on bro!
Thank you 🙏🏻, glad you enjoyed
I have a question. I have a 2:1 base coat and reducer. No activator.
Do I not need to apply clear coat after ?
It would be wise to, clear coat acts as a protection for the paint to resist fading scratching etc
A lovely clear explanation on mixing paint, well done.
good video sir 👌
Thank you

Very detailed, but one question on the sing stage, no clear coat to the mix? If no clear coat added, no glossy right?
Incorrect , single stage has a glossy layer that is revealed once it cures
@Mechaniclyfe thank you very much

The only one I have used is from glasurit , tells you the certain measurement for paint and toners etc, but it’s glasurit specific

Basically candy is just a tinting added to the clear , the more layers the darker the candy 🍭

Simply clear. Great 💪👍
Hope it helped 🙏🏻👍🏻
@@Mechaniclyfe of course it helped me to clear all matters with mixing cups.. great
After mixing the paint, is there a certain amount of time you need to wait before you start spraying or can you spray right away, or does it all depend on the particular paint/reducer/hardener you're using?
You can spray right away after proper mixing and stirring.
Well done bruh you did is so well🎊
Thanks helped a lot
I’m glad 🙂
Can you use urethane reducer with rust-oleum spray oil based paint?
If it’s a urethane I would say yes , otherwise no
