    If the axle nuts are seized, put your wheel back on, tighten the lug nuts and do 2-3 hard deceleration from lets say 45-10, the heat generated was needed to remove the bolts on mine

    Just so ya know, if you read the Ford service manual. It involves the correct "procedure" for shimming the bearing preload. If you Pack the bearings first, you cannot set the preload properly when replacing bearings. If the preload is 0.001"-0.002" too tight the bearings will burn up, 0.001"-0.002" too loose you'll get torque steer and pulsing brakes. I did many of these for years, even some for people on Fordfestiva.com. that would ship them to me. I had the manual, the Ford tools, and an assortment of shims to set the bearing preload. Properly set the new bearings will outlast the car. Also not to be a brand promoter I found Timken bearings to work best. I finally switched my spindles and rear axel out for the Aspire brakes and suspension. I quit because I had too many and life changed. LOL.

    Great video and excellent narration provided along with it. There are lots of ways to separate the hub from the steering knuckle. You managed it well with minimum tools.

    great video, thanks for posting, using to change my festiva brakes and rotors. FYI, I have a 1989 ford festiva carburetored, and as you mentioned in your video my car model uses a 29mm on the axle nut, I got the Autocraft 29 MM Axle Nut Socket off ebay, thanks.

    I have a 83 Mazda 323 with the same hub assembly and my Haynes manual says the rotor can be pulled off normally but my Gregory’s says I need to take the whole knuckle off and use specialised tools. I’ve been trying to pull it off all day(it does slide off about 1cm) , but I guess after watching this I’ll have to do it the hard way… do I need to replace the bearings just to replace the rotor or do you think I can just pop the old ones back on?

    • @thousanddollarcarguy
      @thousanddollarcarguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you go through all this trouble and plan to keep the car for a long time i would replace the bearings as well

    • @thousanddollarcarguy

      It's probably just stuck. Hit the top of the wheel when it's off the ground and then the bottom. You may have to hit it pretty hard with a rubber mallet on the rim edges so that you don't damage it. Also make sure the car is safely jacked up so it doesn't fall over when your whacking it.

    Thanks for this. Although I'm having issues figuring out what type of bearings to get... I never did this before, and there's multiple different sets of bearings and races, and some say inner, some say outer, and some say for both inner and outer. Some races have edges that stick inward, and others are smooth. Im extremely confused lol. I just bought some, but I have no idea if the seals bearings and races are all correct or not....

    • @thousanddollarcarguy
      @thousanddollarcarguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need inner and outter bearings. I should have all of the correct parts listed from rock auto. Otherwise you can use rockauto as the guide and just watch the video for where my friend says inner and outter. Hope that helps. If anything i wouldnt have been able to do this without my friend. It is a tough job.

      Depends on what you need. I believe theres a whole write up on the fordfestiva.com website. Also on the festiva facebook group. Usually people just want to swap the hubs and rotors over so they can get 4x100 mounting flanges.
