@@ViceGripGarage In addition to the plastic, silicone spray inside the cover and on the foam will help the new cover slip on easier. When I did upholstery, we didn't cut the hog rings, we just grabbed them with the diagonal cutters and twisted while rotating, they usually come off easy and you don't have sharp bits of hog rings laying on your work surface ready to scratch or rip the new cover.

Yup I remember when "Silverado" was a trim level (the highest trim level) of the C/K-series pickup, along with Custom Deluxe and Scottsdale. Chevrolet and GMC abandoned the more utilitarian model names as pickup trucks moved upmarket. Wow though, just imagine the decades of beer farts trapped in that old seat.

Thanks for another fun and interesting video. Can't wait to hear it run. As a teenager, I stuffed a stock car small block into a 67 Impala SS. I couldn't scare up an affordable Muncie, so I found a Borg Warner T10. That, of course, meant a different drive shaft (due to spline difference). Making sure I put no wear on my tape measurer, I just stuffed a drive shaft I found into it. It was only a 'little' tight. The first time I got on it and happened to hit a bump, I broke the left motor mount and shoved the fan through the radiator. I had less concern for my tape measurer after that. When the engine builder learned of my 'lemming charging off the cliff' move, he took pity and sold me an M22 for 100 bucks--because he 'didn't know it's condition.' He rebuilt trannies and knew damned well its condition and worth, but he was that kind of person. You remind me of him.

Ditto on your caution about getting under an engine on the lift chain. My lift was good, the chain plenty strong, the bolts super. But as I rotated the engine to align with the tunnel, a bolthead DRILLED through the washer, leaving a spiral groove as it released the chain - and a 426 hemi came down to concrete with a thud. My head had been a little bit under to see the tunnel clearly - lucky miss, but smashed oil pan, oil pickup screen & tube.

Funny thing. The revivals initially sparked my interest and I started out watching those. Then, as I watched more of them, I actually learned a lot more about motor vehicles. This then let me appreciate all the other car/truck content like builds, drag racing, modding, car events, etc. because I better understood what was going on and how much effort was involved. Revivals: the gateway drug to motorsport culture.

I can’t believe Monster transmission still exists, they sold me one for my Dodge, put it in, truck wouldn’t move, front pump was out, clutches burned out, and the torque converter went at 150 miles. Upon opening the trans I learned, it was a used transmission that had been painted silver, and sent on a truck from Florida to Tennessee. They told me I could send it back if I pay for the like $200 shipping. I asked if I could have a local shop look at it, they said yes. Then when we told them what all was wrong they said, “ Having another shop look at it voids the warranty, we can’t help you. Goodbye “ so after spending $2500 on the trans, I had to spend another $1800 to get it working. Went to the shop 8 times in 6 weeks. This was 2018. Found out my brother did the same thing in 2019. Bought one for his Squarebody. Same deal, used trans painted silver. Wouldn’t move. I cannot stress enough. DONT BUY
Edit: It died again a few months ago, mines an 01 ram 2500 360. I tow a lot of vehicles with her, once I got the trans to work,it worked, till it didn’t. Currently manual swapping

@@jaredgrubb30 On Dodges like mine the OEM separator plates where incorrectly drilled. Holes were too restrictive, so anything you buy, or any shop you go to should have the new plates, The Monster had the original pos one. For sure, nothing was done besides paint. The “ burn rubber brewery “ fluid probably has Lucas or Ford friction modifier as it’s main additive in the hopes that it will keep them from slipping till the warranty is up. That company is pure evil

Hey, professional upholsterer for many years here. Don't cut the hog rings. Twist them off. If you just grab them with the end of your cutters, then twist counter clockwise, they open up and slip right off. Saves your hand and wrist and potentially eyes.
Also, turn your covers inside out. This way, you can line up with the original seems, and you can keep the selvage going one direction. The selvage for those who don't know is the scrap of fabric on the back side of a sewn seem. If you don't keep it on one side, it will flop back and forth, and look like the stitcher was drunk.

If you replace those exhaust bolts with studs and nuts then you can avoid having to repeatedly thread into the aluminum and possibly wiping out the threads. Plus, you can hang the manifolds on the studs while you're putting stuff together and it saves a bunch of hassle aligning the gaskets and manifolds on the heads.

I highly recommend the 20 Gallon oil drain from Hobo Freight, when it's full you close the valves and put the shop air to it and pumps it out. takes 2 minutes to empty it and no mess.

When you're recovering the seats 💺, you can rejuvenate the foam rubber. A jiffy steamer like is used on clothes does wonders for it. You am see the foam rubber expand back out to the original shape as the steamer is run over the seat.

I'm a mechanic have helped the upholsterers to fit seat covers. They spray the corners of the foam with silicon spray. It helps the covers pull on easier and save the foam pulling too. especially on single seat backs where they are tight to fit. As usual an awesome vid Derek.
