Thanks for pointing out the vegetation thing....so many maps I'm trying to aim past trees and now it explains why some people do really well when I don't in similar circumstances.

Hey, i'm just going through this and i have written down some feedback/thoughts/questions throughout my own process of watching and applying this. Myself i play the game since '13/14 and started with an old Notebook from '09 (Core2Duo @2GHz, GTX GT220M, 4GB, HDD) and had to rely on those tweaks back then. They were also documented well back then but this video tops it in accuracy and focus on the most important stuff - much much better than trying to make sense of what people rambled about in the forums! Now, after returning to MWO again-again again i got a stronk PC (5600X, 6700XT, 32GB, SSD) but with MWO being what it is, i still need some tweaks to even out hiccups/lags. So thank you, Carbon and all the geeks who collected all the info along the way (again) for condensing all the info in a short and precise walkthrough for everyone to follow along in a reasonable pace! 🍪=) *Feedback follows...* -didn't include adding the .cfg files to the folder (for n00bs) -Q: how about including a .cgf file that is not modified already as a baseline for people who want to start at zero and tweak only to their liking? I see you already added some flavour (laser beams, smoke etc.) -audio levels of the both of you seem uneven/incosistent at times, Carbon is loud and clear and your voice appears to be quieter and i think further away from the mic (background noise/static from computer maybe or open window/traffic(?)) -9:56 the movemenet makes it hard to see what you want to showcase in this clip; visual comparisons are more useful when standing still imo; after replaying it 5 times i finally saw some objects not being loaded with the line of code disabled (fiery chimneys left side for example) -10:50 particlesLOD 0.25 is not normal as stated in the .cfg - it is a heavily reduced amount actuially (PPCs not jizzing (at all) like crazy they do by default) -16:45 ;Terrain texture detail range: Does it have to be exponential numbers (256, 512, 1024, 2048, ..)? Oh wow! This is an amazing video that I can utilize for my potato PC! Thank you guys so much. Maybe now I can even play on the colosseum map without my framerate dropping to single digits. @@hungrymatador213I think you vastly overestimate what this config gives you. literally color balances and gives me 90fps instead of fps dips down to 15-25. both of those things are achievable by either spending money for a better rig and monitor settings or this.
Really taking that goal of bringing equilibrium to the game seriously! Well done Geeram, I'm with you that some of these things should not be able to be removed, but feel like my hand is forced if I want to be competitive in the top levels of comp queue and even top 12 if my team makes it this year. I hope PGI takes more pride in their game and puts more effort into disallowing these clear and obvious competitive advantages to exist in the game. Really great video and explaination. I've been trying messing around with the cfg file for so long..I just wish there is a fix to make the game less sluttering specialy when playing as a light

It is one of the ways, yes. I think you can remove shadows with the default settings though. Also, people use filters to help visibility, which is separate from the user.cfg
back when i had potato PC in 2018-2020 i disabled every setting i could and one of them broke advanced zoom. it no longer displayed digital picture in picture, but zoom level was slightly more than 2.0x without advanced zoom perk taken. loved playing with these settings cuz it didn't cause disorientation and dizziness every time i rotated camera. WANT THEM BACK! (but forgot wtf i did back then. cant replicate) trolls don't say something like: dont play with advanced zoom bro. 2x simply not enough to see in current sniper meta where everyone spams ppcs across half a map. Im at disadvantage.
I just got a high refresh display with vrr and for it to work in a match I have to alt enter twice to go to windowed then back to fullscreen. Anyone else having this issue?

Anyone got any ideas why this might not work under Linux with Steam? I'm not sure if any settings are applying, but the tree user.cfg setting most definitely isn't :( Not a permission problem, user.cfg and tuning.cfg set to 777 Game runs fine otherwise, has for a couple years. Proton is our saviour. EDIT: looks like nothing in user.cfg is applying at all. Hrm, directory is fine, game can write to the sub directory Shaders (if i delete them they will regenerate). Gotta be something specific with MWO running under Linux Proton.
Gives me an idea for how I can get ppcs and strikes to start rendering again. A few patches ago, I lost all ability to see where shots were coming from for some ballistics and ppcs. It's nice to see where a shot came from. I don't find the hud indicator to be that good for it, unless I'm being shot from behind and couldn't have seen the shot, anyway.
I have a question regarding quality of the advanced zoom. I have noticed if i lower my settings to low and then allow the config file to refine the resolution to make things look nice, it has the unintended consequence of lowering the resolution/sharpening of the advanced zoom. Is there any way to retain a high quality advanced zoom while using the config file options to optimize the rest of the settings?
@@hungrymatador213 A lot of players don't change their sensitivity settings or perhaps any settings from default, so if this is cheating then go ahead and put all of yours at max and enjoy the black fly fidgety crosshair at 10 fps . You're just miseducated about this thing. Personally i'm not taking out water, but i'm reducing plants bc there's too much and i'm old and can't see shit anyway. Every other setting is to suit your PC and make it quality of life improve, not even close to cheating. It's just settings changes to improve computer performance for non rich people.

@@LavaDa1shi doesn't seem to be the case. Emerald vale trees that can knock down are still present on my side withe the user cfg. I can tell it's loading cause the poc trails and laser intensity is way lower compared to normal. But the only map that removes destructible trees is forest colony classic. I run with Beefysupreme and he has the same issue.

The sad truth is that people have been using that for years, mate. You are already playing against people that remove water and bushes, the reason that section is in the notes and why they are talking about it is to raise awareness that it has been a problem for a long time. They are leveling the playing field by allowing people the option to do the same without having a significant understanding of the game's inner workings.

I disagree about removing the water. Water is very poorly optimized in the game and because of it, FPS is greatly reduced. But cutting down trees is truly a scam and should be prohibited.
GeeRam is leveling the playing field AGAINST the interests of top-tier comp players by releasing this video. If you think that he's done something bad by releasing it, then you're missing the point entirely.

I'm not 100% sure but Forest Colony Classic seems like a good choice. It has less grid squares and buildings/objects.

for some reason it won't allow me to save changes to the config saying I dont have permission to open the file. Anybody know how to fix this?

Yes, but since viridian bog and forest colony classic have been removed from map rotation it won't do anything as of now.

I believe they have fixed the maps where trees could be removed.
The culling trees seems to only work on removing forest colony classic for me. Emerald Taiga still has them as do other maps.
Trees you can knock down will stay trees that you cannot knockdown will go.
