Whew man, I miss when MWO was more popular and FP matches were a regular thing. Come home from work, group up, and just drop for hours, especially on the weekends. Those were good days.
Loved my Faction play days with Jay Z, learnt so much. Sadly I think most old timers are bored with the faction play maps and modes. Been there done that. Would love to see this change.

Great starter video DATA. I am looking forward to more videos, breakdown of recommended decks and strategies by map would be great. What we see in FP, with novice (and not so novice) players are the same, basic, mistakes. Therefore, I'd recommend driving home few, key basic points: no trial mechs, no lrms on attack, start from your heaviest mech first, don't reinforce and, for God's sake, don't make calls if you haven't dropped at least upwards of 100 drops. Thanks a lot.
I love playing siege in faction play. But I will say the one thing it is missing is to be able to capture spawn points closer to the gates if you're attacking. If you can do that. And pick between what spawns are captured. The game play would Go a lot smoother, especially when You have one of those weird ones. That onbody uses mics
Great introductory vid into FW. Hopefully it helps with getting more people to play this mode rather than the usual QP. As others in these comments noted, I'd be interested in seeing vids on specific map analysis. And it does not even need to be on Siege maps since maps like Alpine Peaks can actually be quite interesting to play on in FW. Cheers!
You've convinced me. 2 months is long enough to sleep on Faction Play. I'll start grinding out those drop decks. I haven't had any Nascar issues thus far, but I'm still in tier 5 with a lot of other new people. I wind up with my teams in crappy locations a lot, but I'm just so tired of being forced to stomach piloting my 65 kph short-range heavy brawler through yet another match of Conquest while I listen to all the lights that voted for it scream for help and die because they wanted to vote the game mode that gives them objective advantage. Good for them. They got their objective advantage. They got on point first, too. They also died first because 8 of us physically can't get there in time to save them from the wall of metal they just willingly charged from the font despite wanting to play a light.
No matter what, both sides are going to have a few people who have no idea what they're doing. For me, i stopped focusing on the mechs w/ sub 100 damage and just focus on myself. Sometimes you make a callout and nobody listens, sometimes you UAV a whole team and get ambushed anyway. In these situations i know i did the best i could and i try not to bring the frustration into the next game. People gonna do what they do, all you can control is yourself. I find more often than not following the team's dumb plan is better than doing the right thing by yourself. Holding the line on the hill on tourmaline is the right call, but it doesn't work if you're alone. Better off nascar w/ the rest of the team where you guys can at least die together and eke out some damage.
Quick play is much better at higher tiers. But I agree faction play is more interesting. Wish the queues weren't so long. Great video. Thanks for your time
FP is very under appreciated and the potential unrealized. I would love to see a game based around it capturing planets with certain resources. Retreating for repairs. Capturing bases or destroying key items like fuel or hangers to place temporary restrictions until they can get the base resuplied. When an unbalance in team numbers occurs you become limited on tonnage and mechs you can bring based on their value. But like another game I played aces high 2 I loved the concept you could still have the ability to bring better craft by paying a price that you earned based on your in game performance spending that currency like say MC to bring a larger mech but you would of course then not want to lose that mech and get back for repairs otherwise you lose your invested MC which might entail light mechs from the other side hunting you down. Faction play is a real oyster left un explored.
I think the same about the Dropship defending the players Who are getting spawncamp, for example if someone is on range It should take at least 20dmg in every component except head
you might be able to find a clan that regularly drops in FP, idk ask around and try your luck. Maybe take note of who drops 4 or more peps from the same clan. I was lucky and someone gave an invite to their discord server
Would be interesting to see your take on laser vomit stalkers VS JayZs stalker builds,, QP soup is just sad , i have been dropping in FW with my unit (DHB) and a few times with the North American 228 unit ,, I would suggest to newer players NOT dropping into FW too late in the day/night as you will run into 12 man units farming C-bills who don't care bout the mission and spawn camp , But if you can get a 4-8 man team together it makes for good training if you run as a unit or training for comp and making calls (right or wrong lol) excellent video i gave you a sub
If only anyone played faction play. The queue is almost always empty. It takes about a half hour to get into a match even when there actually are people.
hey, DATA! imagine if, in quickplay the two teams spawn points were placed closer together and focused not on the middle, but instead like place both spawn points on the left side or on the top side. with spawn points varying the games could become much more than rotating around the middle
Yes. Please continue these FP vids. Look forward to your take on strategy and tactics to be effective in FP. My unit drops vs. your guys, GN-x, and DSx fairly often. They are stiff, tough fights and I learn from them. Did you skip the merc method of choosing a faction to play for because it doesn't get the rewards of pledging loyalty? Thanks Data.
in the past merc was good because you could play more factions without having the rescind loyalty malus, now there is no malus so you can just hop factions for mechbay shopping
@@JGxDATA The benefit to addressing it at least in passing, is that for brand new players, when they first launch Faction and get past the "this is only for serious players" warning, the first thing they're greeted with is "select faction", and they may think they're shortcutting your complex faction selecting procedure. They may also have seen the button that says "select faction" and just be wondering what it's there for if you need to use "the other method" for faction selection.
Data, what are your thoughts on a Union Class Dropship that grounds permanently, and comes with all the armament of a Union Class? (Missiles, Autocannon, PPCs, Lasers, etc). It would do a much better job of defending the drop zone, that's for damn sure. :)
out of reach for PGI. What is easy to do for them instead is to add cooldown quirks to the existing dropships, so they fire those lasers at lot more often
@@JGxDATA How close are they to letting modders take a crack at the game? As evidenced with the recent Bitching Betty fix that a modder had patched in two days, but which PGI didn't think they could figure out for a month, at least, it seems like there are modders out there who have a much more solid grasp on the game than even the current Devs do, and who can accomplish goals a lot faster and more effectively. I know the guys doing the Clan Invasion mod for MW5 had been working on a Union Class dropship to replace the Leopard. Unfortunately, I believe they were recently bought out of that portion of their mod by an "unnamed buyer" who is heavily hinted to be either PGI or someone else at EG7 as something of a Cease and Desist on potential future competition.
I'm sure this won't be seen but how do you play lights in this game mode? I'm still new and play mostly lights but it seems really tough because of the forced symmetry of fights.
FP got killed by the tryhards camping out in the mode, making it zero fun to ever bother playing for the vast majority of players who just play casually. And of course, now soup queue is slowly but surely doing the same thing to the only mode left that casuals still play. No point in playing a game where the matchmaker (or lack thereof) decides most matches before they're ever even played.
The current implementation of faction play is absolutely crap for me. As a single player or small group i can't contribute a bit to the outcome of the match, the side with the bigger premade group always wins. And Siege always plays the same way - as a defender it's all about standing around and as an attacker you can maybe choose between two or three gates and still you're always expected by the defenders. Surprise, tactical nuances are missing in my experience. Fun I find so far only in Conquest with ReSpawns, there is at least movement and real decisions - e.g. you take first a light to quickly take points and then the Assaults to defend, and so on. Quickplay has improved a lot recently, changes to the maps alone have made Nascar less common. Also allowing small groups has led to changes in gameplay. To me, Soup feels more variable than FP. I would love to like FP (again) and play it more often. When I started with MWO, I played a lot more FP, even in single drop. Nowadays it seems to me, it will always be stomps and you end up getting smashed right at spawn with no chance. I could not help but I can't really learn anything from the games anymore. Maybe your video helps to make Faction Play more popular, more busy and therefore more interesting again. Fingers crossed In any case, thanks for the video! :)
Small groups can defeat stacks. And except for suffers rift, there are tons of options for attackers to attack the base in different ways. And defenders who stay static or stand around lose.
DATA, please help to convince PGI to do faction events in the future. I would like to play more faction but my play time is limited so I usually hit the QP scene. I gotta change that.
