- MWO Drop Day: How to Get the FASTEST F2P Start in MechWarrior Online. It's been a long journey to get to this video, but it's FINALLY here! I get a lot of questions about how to get started in MWO either by new pilots, or people thinking of getting into the game. This video is a roadmap to get you set up for the fastest F2P start! I hope this helps new pilots and even inspires others to join our elite ranks. I do enjoy sharing whatever information I can to help pilots, so don't be shy of asking in the comments section.

Me too, I just found the game recently and it's now my favorite
Last 2018, I came to MWO from playing MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries since the early 2000's. I learned the ropes the hard way. My first mech was a Kit Fox, because I thought that everyone started with a light at first. Then after completing the cadet drops, I bought my real workhorse that would see many, many drops in the years to come. I bought my second mech, the Fafnir. Yes, I bought an assault right off the bat, and eventually learned how to maneuver and position as an assault player.
My gripe with this game is every match is a ranked one. There are no unranked matches that you could do whatever you want. By the time that you come to T2 and 1, you need meta builds in order to win, which is not my cup of tea.
Not sure what you mean by "ranked". The tier system was introduced in the attempt to match similarly skilled players, so you don't have top players clubbing baby seals. However, in order for MM to be optimal, there needs to be quantity of players.
As far as not enjoying "meta" gaming-- DON'T play it! This is a game meant to be fun and if you can't tell by my videos, my game play centers around the "unconventional!" Have FUN and I hope to see you in the drop zone!

Great starter vid... wel done. The only thing I might have mentioned wss just a bit on heat generration when in the testing grounds. Just to make a new player aware that it's a concern. You added heat sinks but didn't really explain why. Otherwise... top notch!

Nice little vid. I have ran, and still have, a couple alt accounts, Once I get to Tier 1 for awhile, I tend not to run them anymore. Maybe I should try a f2p "speed run" using your guidelines, for the heck of it.
notice I didn't say fastest start, as that would involve a hero mech and real $

I disagree, the best Mech is most definitely the Commando but BattleMaster are far from the worst.
Can you no longer buy any mech with just C-Bills? I looked up the hunchback and it costs MC also, quite a bit might I add. I am trying to find a way to play f2p and own a mech. I have lots of free premium time that has been given to be so far. But I have not found any mech that I can buy with just C-Bills. Just been using the Trial mechs so far but didn't realize I wasn't getting XP. I have gotten quite a bit of GXP though, even though I don't see what to do with it.
Hi Andrew. When you choose a mech chassis to purchase, the screen before it puts it in your cart will prompt you to pay with C-Bills or MC (make sure appropriate box is checked!). That being said, all Hero and Champion chassis are available for MC ONLY. For the hunchback it means the G, PH, J, & SP, are available for C-Bill (OR MC) while the 4P(C), and Grid Iron are MC ONLY. The tried-and-true 4G is C-Bill friendly, so have at it! PS you need a mech bay for EACH Mech you own, so if you are starting with the 4 mech bays only, choose your purchases carefully!
@@sleeplessnightsgaming Ok, I thought that meant it cost MC and C-Bills to get those mechs lol. I didn't realize that haha 😅. I did end up getting that free Stalker mech along with 6 mech bays altogether now. I invested a decent amount of my C-Bills into that mech, but still have like 38 million I think. Working on a car today so might not be on til later and I can see about the 4G. I personally was really enjoying the Trial Javelin (w/ just SRM's) and Trial Warhammer (w/ just LRM's). I could dish out a ton of damage with the Warhammer in a match. And I was getting good at sneaking behind others with the Javelin and taking them out from behind. The Assault class has been difficult for me. I beefed up the Stalker a to max armor and skills for armor. I put two LRM 20's on it with 5 medium pulse lasers for little rascals, but so far I am not quite matching the warhammer in damage per round.
Can i follow this guide but use the 4P instead of the 4G?
New to the game? the 4P has 9 energy hardpoints mounted on the mech, 6 of them are in the torso instead of the one ballistic hardpoint the 4P has. Both are solid choices for a newbie but I suggest you eventually try them both since just the hardpoints very much determine the playstyle of the mech. If you want I can learn you about the game? I've been playing since 2013 and have like 4000-5000 matches under my belt by now lol
You can use any non-champion or hero Hunchback chassis for this, as they are all pretty solid picks and roughly the same price. However, you WILL miss out on the JOY of firing the AC20! 😁
If only PGI had invested this can of care and Information years ago.
This game could be as big as War Thunder.
Of course driving a Manticore or Demolisher tank would be off the chain.

and equipped it with mag shot....
key is "this time." That means you have at least one other mech or account and may not be truly new to the game. A flea for a cadet comes with a painful learning curve.

Weird but as a beginner I have the best scores as a light or assault.
Cadet, or Beginner? Most new pilots struggle with Assault mechs not knowing position, or getting insta killed in light mechs. This leads to frustration and eventually giving up on the game. Congrats if you are an exception to the rule!
@sleeplessnightsgaming thank you, I think I do good with those because this game is very similar to other games I play. Lights and heavies are easier for me because they are the 2 extremes, the playstyle of the others (mostly the mediums) is more complicated for me.

crab or bushwacker would be better option for newbie to not get instagibbed by sweaty tryhard
Only terrible in your opinion...
While the alternate suggestions have merit, you have missed some major points in the video. The Bushwacker costs over 7Mil C-Bills which is more money than a cadet has after the tutorial. The crab is a decent suggestion, but also has some problems. You will need to spend a couple mil to upgrade weapons and armor to be at the same level as the Hunchie. Also, the weapons loadout is symmetrical across the Crab chassis making it less intuitive to twist away from the enemy (important skill). And the REAL REASON, is it lacks the AC20 which is just cool & FUN to shoot and see enemy mechs shudder under the impact.😁
As to your final 2 points... Any good pilot will know your mech and its weaknesses to exploit regardless of mech chassis. I am not sure how "dated" is relevant, as the 4G continues to perform. I still take it to the battlefield and rack up 500, even 700 & 800 damage matches (see earlier videos including Drop Day #91). So I stand by my original assessment.

6 kills with only 472 damage? Kill scavenging... What gets me is when people vote for Conquest and then all the Lights run around farming kills and ignoring the caps. If you want to play the game, play the modes... or go back to playing Counterstrike.

@@sleeplessnightsgaming 824,789,008 C-Bills, I'd have hit a billion finally except I forced my unit to take 200 Mill last month. P.S. It looked like less of a plug and more like what you plan on doing to my Commando, 😸. Nice video though it's good to see someone plugging new player tips in.
