For those who come across this after version 5.8.0, like me, most of the effects he lists for legacy can be found in the SweetFX and are not found in the Legacy one. I only saw three that he mentioned in legacy.
Fantastic information. I've wondered for years how so many MWO content creators get their games looking so crisp. I've asked numerous times but have never gotten an answer. I wound up just assuming that they'd invested in much better systems than mine and resigned myself to playing with a perpetual handicap. This should change that. Thank you.
Thanks, I think you just saved me a few grand upgrading my 2600K/ 760gtx setup and 60hz monitor. Watching your videos and seeing your reshade FPS on screen (along with the Linus tech tips "Does High FPS make you a better gamer?" video) had me thinking I should be upgrading, but this might tie me over for a few more years of MWO on my existing system.
i got my used 4790k for only 100 euro, and if your motherboard is compatible with it just that would be a massive upgrade. also, my monitor is 60 hz too, but i overclocked it to 74
One thing worth mentioning, is generally in every game (this one is not diffirent), you get extra added input lag (on top of already existing from other sources) when using borderless windowed instead of running game in exclusive mode in fullscreen, its not much and it varies from game to game. In this game due to its slow pace and gameplay nature it matters way less than in some fast paced titles, but its still worth mentioning as there are situations, when for example fast mech is moving from rock to other rock infront of you , the less delay overall you have, the more time you will have to react in that scenario, making it hit or miss, especially with any ppfld. The biggest offender in that matter is vertical sync though, it adds alot of delay, unless you completly cannot stand screen tearing you should always keep it off in any game, alternative is using g-sync as way better solution compared to v-sync. Another better way of dealing with screen tearing and also reducing micro stutters is locking your fps to the highest STABLE value, but also slightly BELOW monitor refresh rate, so if one has monitor with 144hz refresh rate, and fps varies from 123 to 157, the fps should be then locked to 122. Last thing is how you lock fps, you can use either inbuilt frame limiter (in case of mwo its sys_MaxFPS= in user.cfg), use external program like RTSS or do it via nvidia/catalyst control panel, though depends on game engine and how they have it implemented you might get more stable frame time using either inbuilt limiter or external one, how is it for this game i have no clue as i havent done tests yet, so if anyone did i would greatly appreciate getting information on that matter.
Yeah, but he’s 110% correct. Full screen induces a high risk of crashing. I’ve played this game on literally 4 completely different rigs, and the about literally 98% of random crashes stop for each instance. Also, I know full screen to mess up more than when just alt tabbing. I find the input latency negligible at best.
I never experience crashes when alt tabbing, also regular crashes during game happen very, very rarely for me (alt tabbing is slow but thats the drawback of running game in FSE mode). You could try to disable for MWO fullscreen optimizations while running game in fullscreen, as there been many reports in past years made by people, that having fullscreen optimizations switched on in windows, while running diffirent games in fullscreen exclusive mode, causes various problems with the game itself. Thats why i generally have it off for any app that i intend to run in fullscreen and keep it on for these that i run in borderless, as in the latter case it improves on the borderless biggest flaw. In conclusion: if you run borderless, always have fullscreen optimizations turned on, as it reduces input lag of borderless (though still not matching fullscreen exclusive), while still being able to alt tab quickly as in borderless. For running fullscreen exclusive, keep fullscreen optimizations turned off, as it introduces problems with some games/engines while not improving on anything.
Yo thanks for this man! I was playing a match against you the other day and we were sniping each other from across the map but I had such a hard time seeing you... I'm sure this would've helped!
Thank you, DATA, for explaining such obvious things to newbies. This is really important. Because at the start it is very difficult for a beginner to understand this abundance of information.
after 1.800 hours of MWO, thank you for this very useful guide! PS any possibility that you show us your sound mods for the warhorns? Or even better: post them somewhere for Download? CU on the Battlefield ;)
Excellent video, clear and concise. I used NVIDIA settings but Reshade is better. Thanks for the config details. Now can we get some info on your mouse and settings. Your aim is so steady as you move it makes bots look bad.
hmmm...using Reshade 4.9.1 with the new Legends version client, checking "Legacy standard effects"...only five effects options appear in the Select panel and none of the ones shown in the video at the 10:36 mark. Either I missed a step or there might be compatibility issues? Suggestions?
So, I am finally getting around to trying Reshade: some of the options in the packages have changed. So far, some were in Legacy, others in SweetFX...don't know where others are in.
9:11 this isn't the same list of options that I get from the current version v5.4.2 Only AdaptiveSharpen, FineSharp, and HighPassSharpen are available. Most of them are available from the actual settings preset once you open MWO, but not all - and some of them have extra numbered options. (I was also unable to write to the file location in order to save my .ini file despite the folder not being set to read-only.) The settings look great, but FineSharp's UI format has changed things up a little.
Got the description of v sync wrong. All it does it lock your system to your monitors refresh rate so that it removes screen tearing. I've noticed TONS of screen tearing in your videos.
i7 4790k gtx 1070 these are barely enough to generate 60-90 fps in 1080p. If you want more you need stronger CPU. Mwo is strongly CPU single core dependent, so upgrading GPU over a 1070 doesn't reallt matter that much.
@@JGxDATA Oh...wow. Based on the fps you were getting, I thought yours was way better than mine XD. I have a Ryzen 1600af and 1660 super. I just got a 1440p 165hz monitor a week or so ago and running at that rez isn't really hurting me. In fact, running it at pixel perfect 720p seems to not give me much fps either.
11:20 you stop talking but your doing things, did you use home? to get into the things you click in game, found some of it but not the very first directory you opened once in game.
Does anyone else have this issue? Reshade always is unable to save my preset, so, as soon as I tab out and back into the game, or whenever I close and open it again, all the effects are gone because it can't save the preset. I did go into properties and gave myself writing permissions for the file, I did try to move the game to a different directory than the default one too, both did NOT work. I really want to use reshade for this. :c
Whenever I apply the permission settings for the folder it immediately gets reset afterwards. I can click apply and it's checked, but when I press ok and then click on properties for the folder again, all the checks are gone everytime.
@@JGxDATA The problem I found is that it doesn't save. When I go back into the reshade program again, it switches back from Legacy Standard Effects to SweetFX. Then when I press OK and and go to the next page, it saves the changes I made except also adds a whole bunch of effects that I didn't choose before
@@tacenda3250 i am sorry i am not an expert, but might have to do with windows not giving full permissions to do stuff. if it loads you have a prompt as soon as you start the launcher up saying "reshade by crosire, press ....idk... to start the menu"
I do not recommend this at all. I did an install and the game started crashing, never done that before. Ever other game it crashes and it does it even after everything was removed. Messed up my whole game. DON"T DO IT!!!!
if it still does it after removed, you very evidently fucked up something ealse at the same time that doesn't have anything to do with a simple reshade, wich is safely used by basically everyone in every videogame
