hey guys! I recently uploaded a part 2 for 'disbanded kpop groups with wasted potential' if you'd like to check it out 💖 (here's a link too but I never know if these work in comments 🙈 th-cam.com/video/ODW239I5Y0Q/w-d-xo.html)
Two words. Pristin, CLC. What a disappointment and heartbreak. So much potential, especially when it seemed like everything was going great and steady, it all came crashing down. And it kind of feels like Fifty Fifty such be also added to the list. The girls hit sush a monument with their song cupid, and it's all crashing down right before our eyes.
You're 100% right! I'm worried that Fifty Fifty are going to have to be added to a video like this soon, things were going so well and now here we are :(
Thank you for talking about got7! Their entire career in JYP always had a weird tension about it- like they were the weird middle child of the company, probably why I liked them so much lol… but the amount of times songs and Whole albums got rejected like- it’s sad. I’m glad their able to venture off into different genres and find their place in the market now as individuals and hope we get another group comeback when or if they want to! Shoutout to my fellow igot7s *also just wanted to add that it’s honestly Blasphemy that jyp would reject JayB’s songs cause his rnb, pop style got7 songs are always my fav 🏃♀️
As lightsum, I think pentagon too, they have so many good songs and the members are incredibly talented, kinda sad because they are really passionate about there job
@@dearyoongi One thing an artist/group needs in order to survive under Cube Ent. is being a self-produced group. Next is don't expect much from the company on how or how much they'll promote you. PTG still there 'coz they never run out of ideas, it's just the promotions they're getting from the company is lacking. Let's see when they finally comeback completely after Hui's stint in Boys Planet.
@@yesiamaisey worry PTG's next comeback isn't going to happen, they've had a full set of main vocalists since April. Outside of the May release of a Japanese track (filmed before Hui's return from Boys Planet), Cube has done nothing. The last community post was 11 months ago. It's now in the second half of July and no word of a comeback. They debuted in December of 2016, so their contract probably runs out a few months before December of this year. If they don't believe it's worth the cost of doing a comeback it seems unlikely they'll give the group the opportunity to resign. 😔
treasure is a very unfortunate case. the time between the show and debuted must have been the time they took to do the creative work which resulted in conflicts, leading to yoonbins leave and the reforming of the group. now they also lost yedam and mashiro, setting them back once again. with T5 and the new album i hope they will become stronger again.
Lol how about other silver boys aces who left yg or got kicked out?(noa, midam, woong, raesung(yg producer) ,seunghun, byoongoon) Yg is FULL of wasted potencial That group can produce songs, choreograph their own music and more but yg doesen't care so it's not only for yedam
@@kangkangmygoat that's right, i was thinking back then that yg will debut all silver boys members since he did the same think in Who Is Next until ygtb came They could have been moore successfull than treasure tho
They did really well for their first couple of years since they had a decent amount of comebacks I wonder what happened maybe funding or the artists themselves are fine with the break?
I read Everglow had to cancel one of their tours because low ticket sales. Maybe it's a 'online they make a lot of noise but realistically they don't make enough money for the company to be viable'? Like I was super surprised yena and everglow were from the same company with how much yena is doing
I looked up their company's statement and all they said was it ' wasn't feasible at this time.' It could've been low sales, but the root of that I think would be poor promotion. I think more people heard about it being cancelled than knew it was happening in the first place
@@whoopsiedoodle.26 That's a real shame, but it sounds an awful lot like a death spiral - lack of promotion leads to lack of revenue leads to lack of promotion leads to lack of revenue until the company will just cut their losses. Sad to see :-(
I'd say this is largely down to poor promotion, for sure. You can't just book a venue somewhere in the world and hope something will happen. Everglow definitely needs more promotion, absolutely.
I would also add nu'est and gfriend here. Both groups had so much potential but had to cut it short and even though im a buddy and love, i must say both groups arent doing much right now in popularity compared to past and outside of general publics attention in their promotions (Well it goes deeper for nuest as pledis also wasted their talent and popularity with awful management and sudden changes)
i think gfriend didnt have that much wasted potential since they'll forever be one of most successful 3rd gen ggs, but ill never forgive hybe/source for disbanding them right after mago.
i agree, especially with weki meki, who as an aroha, i've witnessed their journey for a while now, and seen how mistreated they are by fantagio, i had hoped they'd finally get their long awaited comeback before lun8 debuted at least, since they already mismanaged their current groups and now have debuted another, and weki meki only have just over a year left i think, i do hope that things change for them and they dont just end up disbanding
I totally agree! It’s really sad to see what happened to these groups, I’d also include cix, they’ve debuted pretty big but now they’re not relevant anymore
@@Kari_naimfor real,AB6IX also debuted super strong with Breath, and the solos are also wasted potential except for Daniel. Jihoon was massive in 2017-2019,he has everything to shine
As an older fan to another we both know jyp doesn't debut soloist or subunit for their famous groups until towards the very end of the groups career or when they are starting to enlist so basically when the groups is beginning to slow down, and that is if those idols have stayed which most times they do not, they did it with Sunmi, Yeeun(wonder girls) , Fei(MissA),Suzy, Yubin(Wonder Girls), Nickhun(2pm), Youngk, Wonpil, Nayeon, Jihyo etc(hell 3racha hasn't even had a mini album released yet and they have been around longer than skz has)... so the argument that jyp didn’t allow them to have solos when it was something that is faced by groups more popular that got7 in jype and outside jype as most kpop companies wait until groups start entering their seniority faze and start slowing down to have members debut as soloist . Now I am not defending jyp, honestly got7 went through a lot and I stan them and I would never defend a huge company but that argument was not the best to make best, because there is many examples to disprove that it isn’t just jyp bias against got7.
The thing is, JYPE is/was doing a disservice to ALL their groups by doing this. Time and time again, the company has wasted solos and unit activities. Instead, the company overworks their groups or never gives them comebacks until their popularity is diminishing. Which shows that they would rather put their money on the new groups they're debuting instead of capitalizing on groups they have.
@@anarecinos1590 totally agree, jyp should start doing what hybe has done with bts specially if it's towards Skz( which they have done last year)were they start adding the members solo music in the album so it doesn't take away from the group but still start building them a fandom that will support them later, or maybe go with what other companies do is start working on solis when the group is 5 to 7 years old and has slowed down but like not disbanded or left all together like JYP does because my doing that you don't capitalize on groups popularity to boost those members careers
@@Haifa386 Took 8 years for a Twice sub-unit, even though it's their most popular group. But at least Twice isn't dwindling in popularity or thinking about disbanding anytime soon now that we're finally getting MiSaMo.
@@Robalexe that what I am saying, it's not JYP hate boner for got7 that made him refuse their solo indevers, it just how jype is and it mostly not a good thing. Hell got7 had it better than twice in that department because got7 had two active subunit one debuting before got7's debut and another 5 years after their debut. Hell got7 had it better than Skz in that department too, because 3racha who have been together since 2017 have yet to release their debut album.
I think jyp didn't like that got7 challenged the company's vision , jyp did not desire got7 autonomy. it always felt almost like retaliation because skz don't challenge the company as much and as a result they have a slightly longer leash but still not too much longer.
I agree with you about got7, all those years in jyp and none of them have a solo activity, they could released a full English title track or at least made and English/Chinese/ Thai version of their songs, they just did it with lullaby and eclipse just the English version, I mean if twice who doesn't have any English speakers have realese English song why didn't got7 who has 3 members fluents in English? They could have done a lot of promotion in the west during their time in jyp. They can still do it but I see it harder now because everyone is focus in their solo career plus the Korean members going to military service, It would take a long time to them to be together...
as a teume since ygtb i think that not debuting treasure in 2019 was more of a need than a creative decision, considering the fact that yg at that time faced numerous controversies. i love the boys, i know that their potential is infinite, but not debuting them in 2019 was the best decision yg could have ever made.
that definitely makes sense! I do like to believe everything happens for a reason, and seeing how well they're doing nowadays, I hope that applies here too 💖
As much I agree with the list, there's someone with more potential that was wasted by YG, worse than Treasure. It's iKon. iKon was lucky to have a successful debut with My Type after almost a year after their second survival show Mix and Match. Mix and Match was just a survival show where YG wanted to find the 7th member of the group(Pentagon's Hongseok was on the show). After 4 months of promotions for their debut album, they were shipped off to Japan. Only releasing one single in 2016. Then, they released a single album with two titles(the only songs in the album) being Bling Bling and B-Day. They disappeared for 7 months to release Love Scenario, their biggest hit. This song was a universally loved song by the general public and international kpop songs. This song also got them their first and only soty as it should. Thankfully, they came back more consistently with K!ll!ng Me releasing in the summer of 2018 and I'm Okay in 2019. Sadly, B.I. was caught in an illegal substance scandal and YG tried too hard to cover it up(along with Burning Sun which is a different story and let to a delay for Treasure's debut). Being the only member that produced the group's music, iKon's music started to suffer in quality. In 2021, they went on Kingdom(the Mnet show) and YG didn't do much after. Out of all of the Kingdom groups, iKon might be the group that benefitted the least from that show. Now, they all left YG. They are FINALLY touring which they should have been doing around 2016-2018. If YG didn't ruin their careers, iKon could've been out of the most popular 3rd gen groups, sitting next to SVT, BTS, Exo(not really 3rd but they are a huge success) and NCT. Speaking of Hongseok, Pentagon had some wasted potential. It starts with the Dawn and Hyuna dating reveal. Cube handled it badly as Dawn was the most popular of Pentagon at the time. I feel like this dating reveal was better received than anyone would expect. Cube made irrational decisions without discussing with the happy couple at time. Dawn leaving ruined the potential success Pentagon could've had after their break out hit Shine. One of two post-X1 group I think have potential but their company held them back is Drippin. I just got into them during their Villain series last year. Their music is filled with songs that are more like growers(growers as in they're so simplistic that you grow into liking them, not the overwhelming growers that kpop fans focus on). I remember reading a reddit post where their fans think their sns activeness is what is holding them back. As for girl groups, Rocket Punch is one I can think of. They're the first post P48 group. They debuted with a bright concept in a K-Pop landscape where girl group is the new normal. After Blue Punch, their comeback schedule become inconsistent and their music didn't really stand out much. Ring Ring was kinda late to the 80s trend. Flash didn't perform well either. As for soloists, Chungha, CL(especially with that US debut), Minzy, and Jeon Somi
@@ሠምራ Exo doesn't feel 3rd gen. Around the same time, masculine and hiphop inspired boy groups were debuting left and right. That was 3rd gen for boy groups. It did bleed into 4th gen tho
I'm nearly certain cube removed those two girls from lightsum forcefully, it's basically their favourite way to remove "unwanted members" and only keep members they want. It was same with beast, but boys choose to leave altogether. Then they tried to hold 3 members from 4minute but only hyuna agreed them. And recently, they made clc leave themselves or not renew contract (doubt if they even given a change) with mistreatment. All because when they do this the news would be "xx didn't renew their contract with cube" instead of cube kicking them out
For an older group i want to add ukiss and up10tion! Ukiss hasnt had a first win in their 15 year careers (well they had a 7 year hiatus but theyre back now as of this month). And up10tion hasnt in their 7 years together
weeekly definitely needs to be added to this! after after school went viral, holiday party did pretty well, but didnt reach the same hype as after school. then ist did a complete 180 and the next cb was a dark concept? it made no sense, because weeekly was known for being the only girl group at the time to keep sticking to the playful, schoolgirl concept and then suddenly they had a concept change, which drew away so many fans. they havent had a cb since then, its been 1.5 years :((
omg yess you're absolutely right, I can't believe I forgot! they seemed to be on such a high for a time, but IST did them dirty for whatever reason and now we haven't seen them since :(
It was so they could bring their planet concept in full spin that’s why they switched. Also they almost got their 1st win on MCountdown for it but lost to StayC. But no one realizes it’s their most sold album either.
it’s so strange cause i really loved a lot of these groups debut and then after a while i’m like why haven’t i heard of them anymore. Just to see them slowly become inactive or god forbid disband, sometimes i really don’t know what the companies are thinking
I'd like to add A.C.E to this list.. one of the most takented idols out there but barely promoted. Theyre slowly coming back from enlistment so I hope they get more exposure.
Totally agree with all these groups especially Lightsum, Everglow & Weki Meki. I would also include Cignature since they were being neglected for a while with Epex debuting from their company. Hopefully we see more promos & another comeback soon. I'm also hoping for big things with Kiss Of Life, who just debuted, even though the previous management of the company totally wasted Hot Issue. Another great video, Fran! 💖🥰✌️
C9 debuting GGs is wrong. They should stick to bGs only. But they’re not doing things right with Epex either. Epex have gotten involved in 2 controversies and blamed for them when it’s not even their fault. They don’t get to choose anything for their songs, concepts, etc. it’s all chosen for them
i used to be an aghase in ~2018 and i loveeeed got7. seeing them go through all that really made me sad because they had SOOOOOO much potential to be part of big 3 bg
Pristin is the GOAT of groups of most wasted potential. I think the industry made them disband cuz they we're too good. They had 4 visuals...they had banger songs....they had a kick ass sub group...everything about them was great....but for some reason they were "mismanaged" sure.
Pristiiiiin 😭 each time I listen to their debut song and to their subunit song I feel so sad. What a waste of potential 😑! Can't believe the girls were under the same label as Seventeen.
honestly it's so unfortunate, they were on the path to success from such a solid debut! and ngl I foolishly thought that Pristin V would be the first step towards Pledis treating them how they deserve :(
Two words - TS Entertainment. That's literally the post. One of the most abysmal companies ever to be in k-pop and sadly with some of the most talented trainees and groups in k-pop. It genuinely kills me to see so much wasted potential in one group... but in ALL of their groups? With them having to literally sue the company just to get out? That's probably the lowest you can get as a company, hell there was an inside joke upon which TS Ent. has more lawyers in that company than they have trainees. Need I say more? The groups were fantastic though, from B.A.P. (I know this one stings the most, I know, I know) to Secret to TRCNG to Sonamoo. They barely caught a break in all this and the worst part of it all is that they could've had it big ONLY IF THEIR MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. How do you fuck up not only with one group... but four groups (& a rap duo) and perhaps all of them with legal disputes? Thank the lords it's a defunct company. Hope they don't even dare to arise from the ashes.
another reason why yuehua is not necessarily focusing on their korean artists is their immense influence on the chinese market & the fact they have many incredibly successful artists located in china. harshly said, they don’t have any self-important obligations to keep their korean artists growing :(
@@Babiisolar agreed. yuehua don’t do much, they are lucky to have pretty popular artists. but ig they earn more in china? its so sad how their gg name has never got any proper promo, at least not visible to non-chinese fans :(
@@gwenmloveskpopandmoreI hope that they don't abandon Tempest after ZB1 disbands cause I will burn down that company if they do that (even though I absolutely adore the 4 yuehuas from ZB1).
Honestly I wish there were some kind of law where if a group had not released a comeback in 1-2 years that they could leave their company up to 3 years early without the company being able to object. Similarly I believe all groups should be entitled to retain their group name once they leave, assuming they regroup elsewhere with at least 75% of the member group lineup from their prior company. Basically, the companies should be heavily pushed to ensure that they keep their groups financed for releases. Sure, members might ask to delay for personal reasons, and in those situations a written request can be made (and there's no need to say who or why to the public, nobody has to say anything at all - the members simply wouldn't request to leave the company due to inactivity on the company's side because the company would have the written request to fall back on). I just feel Kpop artists and groups really could use more rights, and the companies more effective regulations/laws.
k-pop or not i think NCT's sub-unit WayV has SOOOO much freaking potential, all of them are so damn talented but none of it is used againt their advantage. they're not even treated as an NCT unit and barely have more than 1 comeback a year. considering all of them are Chinese/Thai you'd already know the mistreatment they get bc they're foreigners.☹️☹️
I Will Never Understand Why JYPE Didn’t Invest On GOT7’s Potential.. It’s Not Like It Would Only Benefit The Boys.. I Don’t Know What They Were Scared Of At The Time, But I Think They Will Regret It ( If Not Already)
Got7 debuted at a time when the company wasn’t doing so hot. It’s not until Twice’s success the company started to get better. But I do think they invested a lot in the first couple of years in GOT7 though, just faded out because they had to focus on Twice.
@@greentofuhouse bro GOT7 ALSO helped ALOT in building jype new building even bambam admitted that cause it was right after got7 tour and imagine that benefit. they helped equally along with twice but jyp favored twice and most of the times companies invest a bit more on GG plus twice korean fanbase was stronger while GOT7 internationa fanbase was stronger
@@mdorrdar3656 I have a hard time believing Got7 had a stronger fanbase than Twice in any country for a significant amount of time since 2016. You're talking about one of the biggest Kpop groups of all time in Twice, easily. Meanwhile Got7 isn't even the top BG of Gen 3 (even outside of BTS).
This is entirely my opinion, but I think another group with wasted potential is Blackpink. All four of the girls are really talented but I wish they had more comebacks so we could actually see that talent more although, when they do comeback, their songs are quite simple and sometimes boring. I wish Rosé could help with writing more of their songs, like she did with her solo. Loved the video btw
I feel as though their company is only using them for influence and media instead of actually working on their talents to create good music, their recent comeback really opened my eyes because atp there company doesn’t care to help them release good music and some of the members seem like they are not interested any more. That does suck though because people underestimate the group, they are talented I wish they had someone to bring them to their senses so that they can reach their full potential.
Among all the groups iKON hurt me the most, yes they're at least still there and make music but they could be so much bigger😢 if only yg was more responsible and didn't burden B.I aka teenager at the beginning of their career they would be so successful 😢
Also SF9. And Drippin’s Alex. Woolim doesn’t want to admit he left. And Unfortunately Fnc isn’t going to say Rowoon left either. Edit: They eventually did ofc
Oh now jackson is soaring high and his magic man tour is cool! I got to know about got7 through their MV not by the moon in 2020 and Jinyoung's acting in the devil judge really reeled me in >< give their songs a listen!
I agree with everything you said!!! And while I'm not a fan of Treasure, I am a fix, and with 2 cix members being eliminated from Treasure Box I definitely was expecting them to debut fast AND big...... so much wasted potential 😭
I wish everglow comes back very soon!!!! I love them so much! And yesss got7 shouldve gotten sooo much more!!! I hate that jype didnt treat them well. I am glad they are still together despite them being in different companies now
im also patiently waiting for that everglow comeback 🥺 I keep tricking myself into thinking it'll come soon! and yess, I'm so glad got7 are now able to thrive both as soloists and as a group despite being in different companies! it makes me happy to see them thriving 💖
Hi unfortunately Sangah was eliminated from Queendom Puzzle. So It’s possible that Lightsum will have a comeback soon. But I am not sure when because it’s Cube.
Seems like YG is finally getting their shit together in regards to Treasure and manage them better. I feel like one that everybody is well aware of is X1,... honestly just sad what happend considering how much insane potential they had. Also talking about CUBE i need to mention Pentagon... insanely talented, some of the best vocalists in the industry, top tier producers and genuinly funny and cool people. All cube needs to do is give them a comeback, they do everything else themselves anyways. They create their own choreo, own songs (composing, writing lyrics, directing) do their own promo and so forth. It is infuriating that CUBE is not using any of that and let their popularity from survival shows go to waste. Like they really let Hui, Jinho, Yanan and Kino suffer on those shows, because they see this as their last chance...
What I didn't understand is GOT7 had to fight to get their own music heard and\or included in albums but Stray Kids got that right immediately....Ofc this has proved great decision for skz (I'm sure there was contractual reasons) but it must've stung got7 members.. Also jype didn't add subtitles to any of their content til the very end... Just so many ways jype really screwed up with them, but GOT7 have said they have no ill feelings towards the company. I hope igot7 will stay supportive next time GOT7 can make a comeback
JYP kept rejecting Got7’s songs because he thought they weren’t good enough (his words not mine) I think JYP allowed skz to produce their own music because he personally liked what they produced and saw more potential in them as producers. The only thing that holds JYPE idols back from getting involved in their music creation process is if JYP himself doesn’t like their work.l or think it’s good enough to release. For instance, JYP rejected Tzuyu’s song because he said her songwriting wasn’t good enough.
@@Slayoon mmm maybe... but I think its gotta be more complicated then just jyp disliked almost every track from GOT7 but loved everything from 3racha ....i think gotta be smth more like there were agreements made during contract negotiations... but idk for sure obvi
I agree about treasure I waited for yedam to debut since the straykids survival show in 2017 and was more or less only really invested in treasure because of him and his angelic voice. I don’t really know if yg rlly tried their best is keeping him or not or if giving him a producer role in treasure would have fulfilled him enough. I just can’t imagine him being a trainee for sooo long and then giving up being an idol that easily
I don't stan Got7 although they're undoubtedly talented, but from the periphery it always looked to me like Got7 had the misfortune of hitting the right time to expand exactly when JYP's midlife crisis fuelled machismo bullshit reached it's peak. His ego couldn't handle his male artists achieving success he never did as an idol. He seems to have calmed down a little now which is a relief, but whether it was because he became a father or because he got a little bit of attention for When We Disco, who can really say
When was MCND’s last comeback because I feel like I might have missed it because of how poorly it was promoted because I the last comeback I remember was over a year and a half ago. I literally thought they had just been touring non stop for nearly 2 years. They really are talented and TOP Media know how to make a good group and start them off well but after the first year and half they just make all the wrong moves and calls and then well ,you have a situation like this
I think that Treasuer, txt and enhypen also are some wasted potential bc they are able to do a lot of things but their respective labels don't promote any of the groups' members' talents' individually. When you see that there are mainly 1 or 2 members that shine per group prove that there's a waster potential for the other members which is sad
Since we saw MCND which was how long ago? I feel like I haven't seen anything related to them thats not touring or fan meets or something along those lines. It's a shame they are impressive as a group - 4 of my 5 top songs on spotify in 2021 were MCND (Crush was on repeat in our place for about a year). They remind me of older groups with some really talented rappers. They need to allow them to just make more music. Also justice for Weki Meki.
Absolutely, there's just something about MCND that worked, like their chemistry as artists should set them up for so many successful years. But it feels like their company are just absolutely wasting it by having them stick to touring and not much else :( Also #JusticeforWekiMeki - a hill I will die on 🥺
7. weekly. the company really changed their concept and then stopped giving them music JUST when their school girl concept got popular and they were gaining fans, i like ven para, but, they should have just continued with concepts like after school then transition into girl crush/teen crush concepts like ven para
I totally agree with Everglow, Weki Meki and Lightsum, they are all so talented and their companies do not seem to capitalise on it at all. 😭😭Id also add Kep1er to this as the girls are so talented - contrary to the way netizens seem to perceive them. Waken as a company seems to have purposely chosen songs that do not portray the girls talent as well as refusing countless opportunities. This not even scratching the surface when you also look at budget allocation and general wellbeing to the girls in comparison to their male group company counterparts (TO1 + ZB1). It's honestly such a shame when you can look up pre-debut videos of the girls that show their talents better than the company seems to be able to. Especially as they had so much hype coming out of their survival show that the company squandered.
Thank you for this video! For Lightsum I have the feeling Cube debut them incase Gidle wouldn't survive to Soojin's departure. But since gidle came back steonger than ever with Tomboy, Cube lost interest in Lightsum. What a shame ☹️!
Thank you for including treasure. All of the members are super talented and yg really don’t let them shine like they should. Though for yedam it’s really him that left on his own. He was already producing songs for treasure and even others (winner) and he very much could’ve continued doing so. He has a loooot of unreleased songs which he produced during his time in treasure/yg. I think the main reason of his departure is him having been in yg for so long to barely meet success tired him out. He plans on going solo lol, so it really wasn’t for « becoming a producer » but rather didn’t like being in a group.
I think the reason that way YG didn’t debut treasure so close to when the survival show ended was because of the burning sun scandal. I mean it still sucks for Treasure and I don’t think it helped treasure at all, but I understand why YG was hesitant
When I first got into K Pop 8 years ago I always thought that GOT7 was going to be the group that broke through the way BTS did first. After awhile and seeing how BTS was supported by their PD and encouraged to write and produce themselves and seeing how JYP put actual obstacles in front of GOT7 progress I was not surprised at GOT7’s eventual results.
2 groups that went through so much yet still had so much to do when their contracts was up for discussion; Nu'est and Gfriend. Groups who debuted to then crash and burn; Pristen, Glam and Kiss&Cry Sure Glam wasn't really Bighit and Source Musics fault, but like looking at the few things they released, they had a lot of potential. Also Kiss&Cry, don't know why they disbanded just like that, but if you wanna here one of the best debuts ever, put on Kiss&Cry's Domino Game. Like those are the groups that has me going, what the hell just happened? On another side note; Brave Girls, they were so badly managed, like Brave Music pretty much collaborated with every girl group except their own. Groups I'm worried about, who isn't on the list Weeekly Also could you have imagined the discography Blackpink could have had, if YG had actually managed them as artists. Like Blackpink is the only group, where I feel like the group talent is going down. I have absolutely no idea what they are doing.
@@dharling97 They debuted in 2020 under Brave and only got popular this year after being on JTBC’s peak time but still not popular enough for everyone to know them
everglow has a comeback scheduled for august but I'm worried bc since it's been so long the comeback won't do as well, we all know how insane the competition is especially gg wise so yuehua going over a year without promoting them may cost them a lot. /: hoping for the best though!
Yg dng the same even for their upcoming gg BM. They announced BM on Jan 01, 23.. Till now there's no info about the actual debut..that's disappointing.
Got7 was also one of the worst treated jyp groups, their group comebacks were poorly promoted and fans payed for pretty much everything (like ads) during comeback seasons. Their creative freedom was very limited and members, especially foreigners, were not allowed to work or promote in certain areas.
Weki Meki, Weeekly, and Everglow are three girl groups I can think of and that I’ve briefly checked out, that are in need of a huge rejuvenating. I’m not sure about Weki Meki’s current status but I remember thinking back when I first discovered them in 2020, there’s a lot of potential to be made and they just need to keep releasing and getting into shows. It was a bad decision mostly on the company’s part to have Weeekly shift into a dark concept so suddenly. It wasn’t a bad comeback but the timing was the major issue. Like the song was fine imo but it would’ve been better had it dropped 3-4 years later than it is. I also think Jiyoon’s departure, not to put blame on her cause I’m glad she’s doing well now, probably lowered motivation on top of the poor comeback. Speculating a bit, I think they are struggling to find how to keep the Weeekly concept with just 6 members; yes they could do the Seventeen route but I think it’s better for it to be 7 members. It just feels more right that way. Everglow seem to have just…… stopped. Yiren’s back now so not sure why there hasn’t been any progress in a comeback. They’re just relying on appearing at shows and festivals and it’s wasting their potential. I hope with Mia’s haircut that it’s a sign that they now started preparing a comeback.
@@lauuwura obviously he would love to be in treasure but bc yg made him choose he chose to be a producer instead and theres a lot more that we dont know cus yg never told us but now that yedam has insta i hope he tells us
I don't think so bcz Treasure is self produced group even some songs(whole songs) are just written & produced by one member alone.....,so I don't think this is the reason.... I think the reason must be yedam wants to release more songs & different concepts but YGE don't.....
Group like treasure, the cube group are still technically rookie groups and have not found that sound yet and u cant really say that they are wasted potential
I know my opinion is unpopular and creepy but the most wasted kpop group potencial is mix9 boys's final lineup, the group is just exelent and could've been one of the best 4gen kpop group but the companies ruined it and the debut got cancelled
don't worry I don't think this is unpopular, I think it would have been so interesting to see, and so many people were anticipating it! It is a real shame it got cancelled :(
@dearyoongi I think it just because people focused about how the show was a mess instead of supporting the debut team. But i'm still glad that all of them are (maybe) successful in the industry while minseo(laun) and rubin left the industry 😭 but still find happiness The lineup was the best between all kpop survival shows and as good as wanna one
Completely agree with MCND... the industry is so competitive, TopMedia needs to get them doing something new before people move on to the next new thing, which they kinda already have if you look at their views😕
Ive been into kpop for years and years now, and ive never been able to understand why companies put so much time money and effort into debuting groups only to ignore their existence after a year or two, like would it not make them more money to invest in their groups? Especially groups that have a lot of popularity right off the bat, like why lock them in the basement for years?
With lightsum it's sad because they have some good songs. I personally really like Eye to eye But honestly imo most groups have wasted potential just plainly because they're given bad songs or just not special songs or just not getting comebacks or kind of falling off. It's sad to see Treasure is a good example of a talented group that is given bad songs imo 🥲❤️ I miss Weki Meki 🥲
I don't understand why they couldn't give the EVERGLOW members solo singles to at least keep the fanbase active. Or do it like SM and release remixes of their songs
YGE destroyed every Artists potential which they can use it & expand more music..... 1.In Black Pink's case they have group which can speak English, Japanese ,Thai language (Lisa), they can release different language songs to expand their music validation but they just wasted it in 7 yrs....., even if BP is popular but they have ability of targetting 4 industry (Thai, Japan, West ,korea) easily...... 2.For Bigbang's case ,yes they get big scandals but YGE can again bring them by encouraging them in music, in 2022 Bigbang's music was hit in korea , it shows that their hype was still existed but YGE just let them go..... taeyang is doing good in "TBL" 3.Treasure's case ,they need to have more comebacks in a yr bcz nowadays, One CB per yr can't work, people will leave fandom not starving anymore ,they need to release like other 4th gen groups....
Fantagio is pretty much relying on Lun8 at this point because astro is in shambles rn and there's really no say if they'll ever comeback at this point and weki meki has been inactive since 2021 so really Lun8 are fantagios only source of income because Astro is in shambles and weki meki isn't comeback any time soon sadly so yeah.
I would argue and add Pentagon to this list. They have such more potential but Cube is doing nothing to help promote them. 3 of the members are coming off very highly successful competition shows in both Korea and China and they’re wasting their talents. One member has started doing art shows because his company won’t let him release his own music. They have so so so much talent and Cube just lets them sit. There is so much mismanagement of Pentagon, especially with the Chinese member. A very beloved member, Yanan, went back to his home in China and Cube never updated fans on anything. It was over a year before Yanan randomly popped up in a promo for a Chinese music competition show (which he won and gained a huge following in China) that Cube is just wasting.
I fr did not even know Treasure was a YG group. I thought a smaller company debuted them. That's literally so sad!!! YG really fell off with their powerful and impactful debuts.
hey guys! I recently uploaded a part 2 for 'disbanded kpop groups with wasted potential' if you'd like to check it out 💖
(here's a link too but I never know if these work in comments 🙈 th-cam.com/video/ODW239I5Y0Q/w-d-xo.html)
Yes I agree with you completely that should be in a part 2 (for disbanded groups)
You're 100% right! I'm worried that Fifty Fifty are going to have to be added to a video like this soon, things were going so well and now here we are :(
I was gonna say this!!!
Gugudan as well
Aren't fifty fity ruining their carrers by their own? From what i've heard it's their fault isn't it?
Thank you for talking about got7! Their entire career in JYP always had a weird tension about it- like they were the weird middle child of the company, probably why I liked them so much lol… but the amount of times songs and Whole albums got rejected like- it’s sad. I’m glad their able to venture off into different genres and find their place in the market now as individuals and hope we get another group comeback when or if they want to! Shoutout to my fellow igot7s
*also just wanted to add that it’s honestly Blasphemy that jyp would reject JayB’s songs cause his rnb, pop style got7 songs are always my fav 🏃♀️
As lightsum, I think pentagon too, they have so many good songs and the members are incredibly talented, kinda sad because they are really passionate about there job
100%! You can tell how made for this Pentagon are, but Cube just never do them justice :(
@@dearyoongi One thing an artist/group needs in order to survive under Cube Ent. is being a self-produced group.

treasure is a very unfortunate case. the time between the show and debuted must have been the time they took to do the creative work which resulted in conflicts, leading to yoonbins leave and the reforming of the group. now they also lost yedam and mashiro, setting them back once again. with T5 and the new album i hope they will become stronger again.
i read the title, saw GOT7 in the thumbnail, and HAD to click👏🏽

mcnd is an incredible group. top did so well until their last comeback, they need a new comeback soon & have consistent comebacks again!
Definitely! Bringing back more consistent comebacks will really help them grow their fanbase
They did really well for their first couple of years since they had a decent amount of comebacks I wonder what happened maybe funding or the artists themselves are fine with the break?
Mcnd is fine and safe
They are only busy with their world tour, they might comeback as soon as it ends
Well they finally have a comeback
@@brennathecatlover4360well look what happened to their other groups
Sad to see :-(
I read that too
I'd say this is largely down to poor promotion, for sure. You can't just book a venue somewhere in the world and hope something will happen. Everglow definitely needs more promotion, absolutely.
I would also add nu'est and gfriend here. Both groups had so much potential but had to cut it short and even though im a buddy and love, i must say both groups arent doing much right now in popularity compared to past and outside of general publics attention in their promotions
(Well it goes deeper for nuest as pledis also wasted their talent and popularity with awful management and sudden changes)
They disbanded. She wasn't going to cover them but I agree
i think gfriend didnt have that much wasted potential since they'll forever be one of most successful 3rd gen ggs, but ill never forgive hybe/source for disbanding them right after mago.
@@vronjiyeah they definitely already had a solid career but after mago I think they could've gone way higher with hybe.
i agree, especially with weki meki, who as an aroha, i've witnessed their journey for a while now, and seen how mistreated they are by fantagio, i had hoped they'd finally get their long awaited comeback before lun8 debuted at least, since they already mismanaged their current groups and now have debuted another, and weki meki only have just over a year left i think, i do hope that things change for them and they dont just end up disbanding
I totally agree! It’s really sad to see what happened to these groups, I’d also include cix, they’ve debuted pretty big but now they’re not relevant anymore
Oh yess cix 100%! I remember being so optimistic for them in the beginning, I don't know what happened ☹
I’ve heard that CIX are really popular in Korea, so that gives me enough hope for now 😢
I'd say the same for all post Wanna One groups and Hotshot(not Nu'est tho)
@@Kari_naimfor real,AB6IX also debuted super strong with Breath, and the solos are also wasted potential except for Daniel. Jihoon was massive in 2017-2019,he has everything to shine
AB6IX also but it’s more with Cix
Hell got7 had it better than Skz in that department too, because 3racha who have been together since 2017 have yet to release their debut album.
btw got7 sub unit JJ PROJECT comeback and JUS2 debute wasn't really related to this algorithm but yeah you make sense
I do like to believe everything happens for a reason, and seeing how well they're doing nowadays, I hope that applies here too 💖
Yeah because tbh imagine if they did debut during scandal
Exo are very much 3rd gen. 3rd gen started in 2012.
@@Robalexeyes they are and true
Koreans tend to classify them as part of 2.5 gen though, so this is debatable depending if you think 3rd gen started in 2012 or 2013/2014 post Growl.

All because when they do this the news would be "xx didn't renew their contract with cube" instead of cube kicking them out
I think it’s cause we should all know by now LightSum is CLCed

Hope they don't even dare to arise from the ashes.
another reason why yuehua is not necessarily focusing on their korean artists is their immense influence on the chinese market & the fact they have many incredibly successful artists located in china. harshly said, they don’t have any self-important obligations to keep their korean artists growing :(
They don’t even support their Chinese trainees / groups properly but to a degree it’s better than their treatment for their kr artists unfortunately…

Well unfortunately the Korean government doesn’t care about the industry except for the money it brings in
k-pop or not i think NCT's sub-unit WayV has SOOOO much freaking potential, all of them are so damn talented but none of it is used againt their advantage. they're not even treated as an NCT unit and barely have more than 1 comeback a year. considering all of them are Chinese/Thai you'd already know the mistreatment they get bc they're foreigners.☹️☹️
I didn't even know treasure was under yg.. because yg groups have *that* popularity and treasure is incredibly far from that which is upsetting.

I Will Never Understand Why JYPE Didn’t Invest On GOT7’s Potential.. It’s Not Like It Would Only Benefit The Boys.. I Don’t Know What They Were Scared Of At The Time, But I Think They Will Regret It ( If Not Already)
I think JYP is trying to learn from the issues with Got7 by giving Skz more freedom.
Loved the video btw
ikr, plus we were robbed of so many concepts other than girl crush/badass done by blackpink!

I saw got7 and I clicked cuz YAAAAAAAAS FINALLY SOMEONE BRINGS LIGHT TO THIS
One of the members of Lightsum is also in Queendom Puzzle at the moment, so hopefully when the show is back, Lightsum can get a comeback.
Hi unfortunately Sangah was eliminated from Queendom Puzzle. So It’s possible that Lightsum will have a comeback soon. But I am not sure when because it’s Cube.
totally get why you added mcnd! i hope they grow some more >.
I'm so glad somebody gets it! I hope so too 💖
Seems like YG is finally getting their shit together in regards to Treasure and manage them better.
Exactly. But remember that company sucks in general
Well I’m glad he debuted as a soloist
I don't stan Got7 although they're undoubtedly talented, but from the periphery it always looked to me like Got7 had the misfortune of hitting the right time to expand exactly when JYP's midlife crisis fuelled machismo bullshit reached it's peak. His ego couldn't handle his male artists achieving success he never did as an idol. He seems to have calmed down a little now which is a relief, but whether it was because he became a father or because he got a little bit of attention for When We Disco, who can really say
gonna fight for my girls CLC forever
honestly me too I'll never get over it 🙈
Till I die!! 💪🏾
For me most wasted potential:
CLC
Everglow
Itzy
NMIXX
yeah im a gg stan
seeing got7 on the thumbnail i had to click, they were so robbed in jyp fr
my loves, even though it's been years I'm still a member of the 'justice for got7' squad 🙈😄
Pentagon is a super complete group, and cube don’t promote them ☹️☹️☹️☹️
Cube in general sucks ass. If you're there and one of your members isn't Soyeon level, you're screwed.
When was MCND’s last comeback because I feel like I might have missed it because of how poorly it was promoted because I the last comeback I remember was over a year and a half ago. I literally thought they had just been touring non stop for nearly 2 years. They really are talented and TOP Media know how to make a good group and start them off well but after the first year and half they just make all the wrong moves and calls and then well ,you have a situation like this
Well now they just had a comeback after over a year
@@gwenmloveskpopandmore
I know I can’t believe how long we’ve waited for this
I think that Treasuer, txt and enhypen also are some wasted potential bc they are able to do a lot of things but their respective labels don't promote any of the groups' members' talents' individually.
But it feels like their company are just absolutely wasting it by having them stick to touring and not much else :(
Also #JusticeforWekiMeki - a hill I will die on 🥺
I'm happy they're having a new comeback soon
7. weekly. the company really changed their concept and then stopped giving them music JUST when their school girl concept got popular and they were gaining fans, i like ven para, but, they should have just continued with concepts like after school then transition into girl crush/teen crush concepts like ven para
Crying while I listen to CLC - Devil on repeat 😭
Thank you for this video! For Lightsum I have the feeling Cube debut them incase Gidle wouldn't survive to Soojin's departure. But since gidle came back steonger than ever with Tomboy, Cube lost interest in Lightsum. What a shame ☹️!
Yep they became CLCed
Exactly that’s why
Clc, pristin and gugudan should be in a part two!
absolutely! I'm thinking of doing a part 2 with disbanded groups, so they will definitely be there!
2 groups that went through so much yet still had so much to do when their contracts was up for discussion;
Nu'est and Gfriend.
Groups who debuted to then crash and burn;
Pristen, Glam and Kiss&Cry
Sure Glam wasn't really Bighit and Source Musics fault, but like looking at the few things they released, they had a lot of potential.
Groups I'm worried about, who isn't on the list Weeekly
Also could you have imagined the discography Blackpink could have had, if YG had actually managed them as artists.
Like Blackpink is the only group, where I feel like the group talent is going down.
I have absolutely no idea what they are doing.
Because Mbk/PocketDol sucks
Yeah if it wasn’t for Glam having stupid members
Brave has also fumbled the bag with DKB I mean I’m not surprised but I think they still have a chance somewhat
@gwenmloveskpopcecmore
Ohhhh I'm not familiar with DKB, but if they're under Brave, then it doesn't surprise me.
You're so right about all of this, hope we hear about Momoland in the disbanded groups video
Thank you so much! Omg Momoland is a great example, I'll definitely make sure to include them in a future part!
Got7 Frs….. never actually kept up with them but from casually listening to their songs I can see their potential to be bigger than they were /:
YG should allow his artists to have more creative control
YG made Yedam choose between being an idol or be a producer
:o really? I want to know more
@@lauuwura obviously he would love to be in treasure but bc yg made him choose he chose to be a producer instead and theres a lot more that we dont know cus yg never told us but now that yedam has insta i hope he tells us
@@asahified omg I hate yg, but anyways I hope Yedam grows as a producer
@@lauuwura also yedam (im assuming) saw YG was wasting his talent
I don't think so bcz Treasure is self produced group even some songs(whole songs) are just written & produced by one member alone.....,so I don't think this is the reason....
I think the reason must be yedam wants to release more songs & different concepts but YGE don't.....
Danielle from new jeans runs this account I’m convinced😂 your accent is so pretty ❤️
But i'm still glad that all of them are (maybe) successful in the industry while minseo(laun) and rubin left the industry 😭 but still find happiness
The lineup was the best between all kpop survival shows and as good as wanna one
luckily sangah of lightsum is currently on Queendom Puzzle so she'll get some attention back to Lightsum but it'll be wasted by cube 1000000%
yess I unfortunately think you're right! typical cube :(
Completely agree with MCND... the industry is so competitive, TopMedia needs to get them doing something new before people move on to the next new thing, which they kinda already have if you look at their views😕
I personally really like Eye to eye
But honestly imo most groups have wasted potential just plainly because they're given bad songs or just not special songs or just not getting comebacks or kind of falling off. It's sad to see
Treasure is a good example of a talented group that is given bad songs imo 🥲❤️
I miss Weki Meki 🥲
i haven't heard mcnd's situation, thanks for shining a light, i hope they get properly treated.
unfortunately a lot of these sorts of situations can fly under the radar :( but tysm for watching! 💖
I don't understand why they couldn't give the EVERGLOW members solo singles to at least keep the fanbase active. Or do it like SM and release remixes of their songs
Yg is doing the same thing with baemon the debut shouldve been right after their show
Got7 being the step child to JYP it what it felt like I think JYP did not want GOT7 to get bigger then him.
everglow just announced a comeback 🎉
i’m pretty sure treasure wasn’t able to debut in 2019 because of the scandals that were happening with hanbin from ikon :( and seungri from bigbang
The whole got7 thing is just sad they still have so much potential to go bigger and they still can!
I dont think tresure is a wasted potential there doing really well right now
YGE destroyed every Artists potential which they can use it & expand more music.....
2.For Bigbang's case ,yes they get big scandals but YGE can again bring them by encouraging them in music, in 2022 Bigbang's music was hit in korea , it shows that their hype was still existed but YGE just let them go..... taeyang is doing good in "TBL"
3.Treasure's case ,they need to have more comebacks in a yr bcz nowadays, One CB per yr can't work, people will leave fandom not starving anymore ,they need to release like other 4th gen groups....
Wouldn't say u butchered the name of company but slaughtered it, like the content keep it up 💜
Oh no I'm sorry ahah, I tried! 🙈 thank you so much 💖
For me DKB is a waste potential to be big group, they're super talented
Fantagio is pretty much relying on Lun8 at this point because astro is in shambles rn and there's really no say if they'll ever comeback at this point and weki meki has been inactive since 2021 so really Lun8 are fantagios only source of income because Astro is in shambles and weki meki isn't comeback any time soon sadly so yeah.
Everglow comeback has been announced for August. Unfortunately it’s just a single
I still miss Got7🥲
Why do you kinda sound like Anna from inventing anna hahaha love the video as always
Ahah thank you so much! I've actually been told that before 😮 but I think she's from somewhere different to me🙈🤣
got7 🥺💘
