I love this little powerhouse jewel..Great Home Studio amp or Cafe/small club... Fantastic tones... Lot's to work with.. I don't understand the harsh comments.... I want to believe this is one of the best .. or The Best Modeling amp out .......there....VT40X
I bought one newt $199 then I ordered the floor pedal.Excellent-warm amp! Blew away my ole line 6 flextone from 2001. I swear I almost heard a supro sound on this baby amp
Awsome Amp. I have VT40X and its really cool. Act like my all tube Marshall with pick attack. I don't know about the VT100X but VT40X you can dime the pre-amp and run the power section at a low volume and get all the overdriven goodness. But if u turn it it max in pre-amp & power amp look out. Its load and sound so good. The "Pre-amp" is marked "VOLUME". "POWER" is the control for the "Power -Output" section for the speaker vol.
Thanks for the great demo. I ended up buying a AC40X after watching this. The clean tones such as the Deluxe and AC30 are really impressive, just like the demo here. The JCM800 model and some Peavey styled "Erupt" model are also great tones for people who don't play telecasters. Tone room software is very convenient to use when plugged into a Windows PC, when customising the signal chain and all of the settings.
This sounds great , I watched the video demo of the VT20X 20W version, and the guy really understood the layout and technology- this dude also gets it but really understands the sounds and how they apply to the user(not sure that makes sense) but i got a lot out of this- well what i got out of this - is its an awesome amp thats out of my league, lol, but if your a person who understands modeling/shaping you can shine with this, imo.
This knocks the spots off the Katana and the Mustang - it truly is a boutique quality modelling amp (technically a valve/modelling hybrid). Sadly the kiddies just want the amp with the 100,000 sounds, none of which are great.
Really want to get this amp. Not only does it sound great, but it is quite stylish as well. Was hoping to find it in one of my local music stores, but no dice. Will probably be ordering one from you guys soon.
Sorry for the long post. QUESTION: Has anyone ever tried a Bluetooth adapter for the USB connection? I was thinking of trying this with my Android tablet with Tone Room. I was thinking between sets I could drop and drag saved setting for various sets instead of being limited to the 8 presets that can be recalled with the foot switch. I really love this amp at a great price point but found the speaker breaks up way to soon and sounds really fuzzy/muddy. I found the AT40X AMZ new for $200 British Green - I'll save the $50 on the color. I replaced the speaker with an Eminence Rajin Cajun also on AMZ for $54 - wow that did the trick. Sounds incredible. The original paper thin light weight speaker was expected for the price also a 5 ohm speaker but measured out on an ohm meter at 4.6 ohms. So I added a parallel cable off the speaker to a jack I installed on the back of the amp cover. I can add an 8 ohm extension cabinet that puts my load at approx. 4 ohms. This may draw a tad more current but I haven't had an issue with the test I did (YET) could use a 16 ohm cab and be safe. Also, mine is the 40X and I dont't have any hiss issues many found on the original AT40s or VT40s. I figure for $254 for a small practice amp to lug around at 23 lbs with the new speaker, much easier on my back - upstairs man cave. Thanks for reading through.
I love Freddie, especially his jazz playing ;) I got one, hope it sounds as good as the vt20x, lol! The metal tones on the 20 are mind boggling, but I wanted just a bit more volume for practicing with a drummer. Thanks dudes! This is an evolved, well thought out amp, great value, really hard to beat the sound too.
Shawn Reese would you recommend getting the 20 or the 40? I live in an apartment and im not in a band yet, but I just think the 40 might have a better tone.. or is the only difference mainly the volume?
I think you‘ll get great metal tones just cranking the sl-od, boutique metal, Erupt 3 channel, Orange, double rec, 800 and vm amp models. They‘ll all give you great heavy rock and metal tones, not to mention the boss ds-1, fuzz face, rat and Marshall govenor pedal emulators they throw in for gain
Between this amp and the Vox AV30, what is the difference, which one would be a better upgrade from a Mustang I Fender?? My budget is 200€, 250€ tops. Much help needed, thanks in advance. Awesome video.
Hi sound and tone great can you set it up to get The Shadows sounds. That echo reverb 60's sound. Please advise as I have a Blackstar amp at the moment. Has the editing program by vox got the sounds I can setup? Look forward to you reply. Thanks
Kenneth Borrett the tone room is really where the magic happens, there are more amp models and pedals there and you can set them up and save them to one of the 8 banks on the amp, really a nice amp. I would say you can get the shadows sound no problem. You can also set up a bunch of amp sounds and save them to the tone room and download them to your amp later on if you want. Just remember that you must buy a usb cable to hook up to your computer as it doesn't come with one which is my only knock of this amp. I have the vt40x and really like it alot, the amp and pedal sounds are terrific.
Hi, ThatFaceMelter94. The two amps are going to be pretty similar in terms of options but the Cambridge will have updated sounds and Vox's NuTube technology for a more realistic tube amp feel. It also as a 12" speaker which will help give it a bigger sound overall. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
PLEASE HELP ME CHOOSE! I'm going to buy a new amplifier. What I want is: 1)Overall good sound and tonal quality. 2)That sound quality being maintained at really low volume (like bedroom volume). 3)Versatility!! App or not I'd love that I didn't constantly feel like wanting a valve amp with pedals. 4)As I want a modeling amp I would like the one which better emulates other Amps 5)Bluetooth is great, but I can manage with the cable for the smartphone, so it's not that vital. I came down to choose between: A) Vox Adio Air GT. B) Vox VT 40X. C) Fender Mustang II. D) Orange Crush 35RT (If the other amps emulate the orange sound well forget about this one) E) I'm open to other products... NO Boss Katana, they don't sell it in my country. THANKS!!!
I just bought mine yesterday and it's going back. The high notes hardly sustain, they fade out into this thin buzz less than four seconds after I chime a note even on an open string.
Bro you just needed to spend sometime with it... I had the same issue at first, I had no sustain but as I started experimenting with it, I got what i wanted..
Hi, Juk! A two-button footswitch is likely not going to operate properly. The VF5S 5-button footswitch is the only one that Vox recommends for use with that amp. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320
Buen dia Ignacio! Saludos and thanks for your inquiry. Vox designed this amp as an all-in-one design that doesn't have access to an FX loop. Generally lower priced amps with DSP (digital signal processing) won't have loops. Please contact me direct with other gear questions. Mine is on the way! I have a VT20 which is quiet and just a great amp. I use it for recording. I bought a used VT40+, for performing, and it is too noisy for many uses. Reviews and opinions of the VT40X indicate that the hiss issues are resolved. Wish me luck!
Matt Bruner hey bro, i just bought the Yamaha thr10X instead, and damn that amp is hot as hell... tried the VT20X in a shop, it did sound good but at a very low volume, i couldn't crank it. I hope that you will be happy with your purchase man !!
For high gain sounds, you probably bought right. The reviews of the Yamaha are enthusiastic. I use more low gain sounds - think Tom Petty and those delicious "just starting to break up" sounds. Good luck!
Matt Bruner Ah ok i get it now, i get what you are into ! for that kind of rock, the VT40X is really great ! the Marshall JCM 800 model, called brit 800 is what you will spend most of your time playing on ! it sounds good, and if you crank the gain and the master on that amp model, you will get a 80's heavy rock sound ! hopes this helpes. Good luck bro
Bierce88 no this is different. This uses an actual tube where as the peavey's use analog technology to replicate a tube. Plus the valve tronix uses virtual technology to replicate each component in every amp they model to further reproduce the amp there imitating.
No ! No, No ! The powerlevel’ does not work like an ‘attenuator’ ! 😂 It artificially creates the sound characteristics of a poweramps with different wattages: if dialed back, the amp gets the characteristics of a low wattage amp, if dialed up, the amp gets the characteristics of a higher wattage amp. So you could almost argue it is the opposite of an attenuator ;) Simply said: Bedroom: dial power level back to mimic a low wattage amp, turn up the channel volume to get nice poweramp overdrive at bedroom levels. Practice or small gig : turn power level up to mimic a higher wattage amp, turn up the channel volume to compete with the drummer :)

The 4 button footswitch with this amp basically gives you an 8 channel amp - ideal for small gigs where you are covering a bunch of styles
Really want to get this amp. Not only does it sound great, but it is quite stylish as well. Was hoping to find it in one of my local music stores, but no dice. Will probably be ordering one from you guys soon.
I think the tube preamp makes a big difference. Sounds better than the Boss Katrina/Marshall code series. Not as many effects-but a bit more organtic.
Holy jewels that sound amazing,
This is really great for producing if anything

I thing that you won't get a good metal distortion with this amp because is more like blues, jazz or rock amp. You should try whit a line 6.
