    Honestly these videos that are years old are still some of the best on TH-cam. Definitely keeps Sweetwater's reputation up to the online market. You can't get this level of demo in any guitar store.

    I've been playing acoustic and classical for about a year but was turned off by the overwhelming options of the amp/effects world of electric guitar. When I learned about modelling amps I ran out to the store immediately and bought a VT20X. For a beginner, this is the ultimate tool as you can experiment with so many sounds and practice so many different styles with just one guitar. Given the cost and effort involved in setting up dedicated configurations, I've probably saved myself a lot of time in development and I certainly saved a lot of money. Most importantly, I am having a LOT of fun.

    • @RenoWeedLajos
      @RenoWeedLajos 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      i did play also with a classical guitar. for several years but love songs. now classic. then i learned about the blues scale and learned a bit how to use it to play solo guitar. then it was time to buy an electric guitar and an amp. i wanted to play it with electric guitar and pedals. because solo parts are also very nice with a good classical guitar but. its not the same as with an electric guitar. . made the same way.

      Just so you know, most modeling amps sound like this. It’s really the sound of a modeling amp.

    • @justinTime077
      @justinTime077 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol…I think most people go after the sound they like, they don’t have to have to whole god damn world… mostly.. a beginner should just get an amp that specializes in what they like. A modeler is fine. You don’t need to worry about shit you don’t even consider.

      Yeah, you can. This is basically a third iteration of the Valvetronix combo amps. The second version was a "VTX" with metal emphasis. This one combines the original themes with the metal themes. It's more versatile. The only thing I like better about the second generation VTX series is the speakers. But are even better for the price.

    Mitch, great job of giving a solid, understandable overview of an amp with so many tonal bells and whistles. You hit enough high spots to make this amp very tempting.

  • @1972myc
    @1972myc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The way I look at it, you can't own every amp you dream of, but you can have one that gives you a taste of all of them. And even if they are not exact. They are based on them, close enough for fun and interesting sound.

      Thank you I commented on that exactly they should be doing demos with a expensive guitar and mid-range guitar and an entry-level guitar so that people of all instrument qualities have an honest opinion of the amp.. I agree with you well stated

    • @guitarplayer2846
      @guitarplayer2846 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      For modeling amps, they should use 'modeling' guitars such as Epiphone and Squire because that's what most modeling amp buyers play.

    • @ThorneyedWT
      @ThorneyedWT 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      There is not much tonal difference between $3000 Gibson and $600 Epi with Gibson pickups. Not sure about PRS, but I guess any PRS SE model with decent pickups will sound great too. Most of price difference is in luxury features and to some extent in setup and feel.

    • @ErraticFaith

      Amp effects more of the tone than that disgusting PRS junk. Sounds about as lively as a corpse. As for Epi sounding like Gibson...lol no. We held a blind test in Guildford (Thanks Lee) and even members of the public who hadn't even heard the two before could pick out the LP over the T+ Epi with American Electronics. Nice try playing apologist for cheapskates who want to believe that price buys you nothing. But as someone who spends about 8 months a year building them..yeah. Stfu. You are clueless.

    I'll never understand why people demonstrate amplifiers using $5,000 guitars this is an entry-level amp people they should demo this using an entry-level guitar so that . Those guitarists who are trying to buy and decent app can hear what it sounds like with. Something similar to the guitar they have just saying it should be considered

    • @Aaron-zh4kj
      @Aaron-zh4kj 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I honestly don't think it will make a ton of difference in sound between a mid-tier guitar and a $5000 guitar, just in terms of the sound. There are some REALLY cheap guitars that will sound different, but a typical epiphone will have fairly similar alnico pickups to this PRS. That money impacts many different things beyond just the sound.

    • @Faikzit
      @Faikzit 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      But the question is: why not? If you own a 5000$ guitar you don't have to buy also an 5000$ amp? Vox does great products and for training at home and also for small events this thing does its job very well.

    • @luisnunes2010
      @luisnunes2010 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The point is making sure the amp is cheapest thing in the chain. If it sucked...

    • @gomchenlama
      @gomchenlama 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Faikzit Because it is an entry level amp, and the public interested in it will probably play with an entry or medium level guitar. The quality of the guitar affects the quality of the sound, as everybody knows. So I think it is more relevant testing an amp with an instrument used by its target audience. It is just logic...

    • @GuitarVixenn
      @GuitarVixenn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      totally agree. I bought this as a practice amp and have a high end guitar so of course it sounds bad ass . Didn't want to spend a fortune on something I will just practice with and teach my students with when we are doing electric lessons. I think the type of amp a beginner purchases depends on the combination of what type of guitar they have FOR SURE. I think he should have tested out different style guitars from entry - mid level to show how accommodating this amp truly is.

  • @jorgefarallmusic

    This one is a HUGE sounding little monster, and with the Tone Room app editing, the possibilities are endless. The valve is definitely a big difference to challenge other amps in the same power range. Bang for the buck? Don't think twice.

    Just got this amp today and omg what a nice little amp for 250 bucks..looks good, quiet as a mouse, plenty of power, sounds great , seem built really well and best thing is there is so much to play with. went from a fender jam to this Vox and there is no comparison..the fender jam can't touch it. i'm still kinda new to different amps..this Vox made me happy because my partscasters sound so much better on a "real" amp, thanks Vox.

    No matter what the tube guys say, most of these modelling amps sound really good. Where they frustrate me is the infinite tweakery required to set them up how you like them, as there are simply way to many sounds I don't like or will never use. What works for my P90s sucks for my humbuckers. While all the toys they build into them all sound good, I've tended to prefer a pretty simple amp

    • @officialmetalwill
      @officialmetalwill 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hugh Rogers A lot of these modeling amps sound great as practice amps and some don't. Very few sound good in a live/gig setting. Also, SS circuitry will never interact with your pickups and playing in the same manner as tubes do. Not saying that's a bad thing, some people just prefer different things.

    • @HughRogers609
      @HughRogers609 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Remmy 315 Nothing to do with it. It's marketing to sell SS/Modelling to tubers. My Mustang can sound just as good as this - if I could play like him that is. Plenty of excellent SS amp that sound great too. Vox Pathfinder, Bandit, Roland JC40...

    • @HughRogers609
      @HughRogers609 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Will Castillo I guess you've not heard the picking dynamics of a Pathfinder then.

    • @HughRogers609
      @HughRogers609 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Remmy 315 Thats a matter of opinion. There are many tube users who feel they get very close. Close enough to be able to ditch the tube heads and big combos for gigging convenience. See In The Blues channel, he demos this very well. When playing clean, it's not even a contest; worth discussing.

    • @indonesiaamerica7050
      @indonesiaamerica7050 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some tube amps still represent "tone nirvana" but lugging them around...is almost never worth it. Small tube combos can be cool. But if you're just a working musician carrying your own gear a Valvetronix amp makes a LOT of sense.

    I just stole one of these beauties on eBay. First off... That 8" speaker is in way over its' magnet (its' head). The amp is capable of much more than that dinky little speaker can handle. I'll be using a trick I found on TH-cam. You can remove the back, disconnect the speaker and attach an output jack. You then plug in a speaker cable to use the amp to drive a Marshall 4x12. The output is 5 ohms and the cab is 8 ohms - you'll lose a bit of power but this amp has plenty to spare. Secondly... The onboard FX are okay but won't challenge my huge of array of MXR pedals. I personally prefer the Fender Deluxe Reverb model (Setting #1). I then blast the sh!t out of it with an MXR Prime Distortion pedal. This amp is a great deal for the money. The Vox AC30 (normal channel) model is magnificent. I have a Vox AC15 and the sound coming from the VT20X is pretty darn close. For under $200 you won't find a better deal on a modeling amp.

    Worst thing is the green yellow light, can't tell the difference to the green. Wish I could use the pedal to change from amp models instead of designing my own. I have a 100 marshall really heavy but took my Vox 20 to a gig and was amazed. I ran in and bought a VTx40 this week. fantastic. just hope I can alter the pedal board so I don't need to turn round on stage. Yes Im using a PRS too hahah

      This has a USB connection? I can't find any documentation on that. I really need to know because I'm looking for another Vox amp (my 6th, I think...) and I already have 2 Valvetronix combo amps (older) that have no USB. Having PC connectivity for patches would make a big difference and I would definitely make a difference in my next amp selection.

      Sooner or later they will add a USB audio interface to a modeling amp. Some amps already have MIDI, so that's not much of a stretch. Until then, it's Focusrite time....

      It sure does .
      It’s an awesome amp with good tone at low volumes no need to crank it to get a good tone , you can also get some good metal tones too. Comes in 8” 10” and 12” speakers
      * I also have a VOX AC15 but I really don’t play it at home , it’s to loud .
      So this amp pays off . I’ve used in love sessions also .

      As for my self I need to buy a USB plug in to set the amp up but yeah you don’t have to have the amp to check out the app . Take a look at it

    • @sweetwater

      Hi, eagle52. The amp has three effects sections. One is dedicated to overdrive/distortion sounds, the next is modulation and delay, and the last one is reverb. You can get any combination of those going but not more than one from each section.

      Hey, Jim! Quite a few amps can get a 60s/70s rock sound, but there are many different tones from that period and it depends on what direction you want to take it. I would be happy to help you narrow it down if you want to get in touch with me. Thanks for your interest!

      @@sweetwater Thank you for help.i actually made up my mind for the VOX AV15.after watching VOX amp reviews for nearly a week now. So it happens that i find the VOX AV15 the best for me . i m not a pro. playing only since one year electric guitar. before some years acoustic guitar.
      but i m very into having the best sound. as i come from the 60s i remember .when i was 17 years old , 1973 i went to my first concert. in Switzerland. DEEP PURPLE. it was probably the best concert i have seen also. I always was crazy for a good guitar sound.
      just one hour ago i got in an offer from the Facebook Buy-Sell site.VOX Cambridge30W amp. it looks old. so it must be one of the kind rock amps. i would like it. he sells cheap for 270$ the problem is that he lives far away and i should send money first. but i cant trust in send money. too bad. i would have bought this old VOX Cambridge amp. it cost the same like a new VOX AV 15 W.

      Hi, Kevin. Yes, all of the effects can be adjusted. Basically you would use the buttons in the effects section to select an effect and then use the Value 1 and 2 knobs to adjust some parameters. You can also connect it to your computer and use the Vox editor software to do further adjustments and tweaking.
