    Best roll bar installation video on TH-cam! Wish I had this when I installed mine, great job FM 🙌

    Great guide Kyle! Those cuts with the reciprocating air saw turned out really tidy, much cleaner than an angle grinder. The plastics and carpet look like they line up really well too! That's not an easy feat, wish I'd had this guide when I installed my roll bar.

    Used this to install one for the wife's NB. Very thorough and excellent step by step, tons of tips and tricks that came in handy. My last step is cutting the carpet. Sleep for now. Thanks for the great instructional!

    Watching this as I'm installing my Gen 1 Blackbird Fabworx rollbar into my NB!
    Seems to be fairly straight forward similar process except that I'll need to get longer bolts for the lower seat belt reel now.

    Great video Kyle. Side note: All the Hard Dog roll bar installs I have done (NA/NBs) had that stiff, gooey insulator stuff on the rear deck, where the back vertical bar is bolted down. It has to be scraped free to not rest under the bar, which I think is mentioned in the installation instructions from the manufacturer.

    You interior trimming skills are on point!. That looks so clean! I will try to match your skill here (installing the bar as we speak, least finishing bolting it down tonight, got hockey to watch lol).
    Seriously though, very clean cutting of the interior parts

    How does a roll bar affect the action of putting the top up and down? Is it terribly awkward? I daily my miata and love the ease of putting the top up and down in the stock car and would hate to have that become a chore

    • @tuna_nuke
      @tuna_nuke ปีที่แล้ว

      You would probably need to get out of the car to put the top up depending on the rollbar

    Time estimate for first timer? I'm guessing 1 full day.
    Would a Dremal tool work for the trimming if one doesn't have air tools?
    Great video!

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, figure a day for a novice. We've often suggested in the past that you break the install into two parts - do the heavy lifting and bolting one day, then attack the plastic and carpet trimming the next day when you're fresh. Makes for cleaner work. You can drive the car before the carpet and plastic is reinstalled.
      You can certainly use a Dremel tool for trimming.

    • @jonathanfoster8835

      A dremel with plastic cut off wheel works really well on the trim pieces. I cut the metal with aviation snips.

    • @mistakitty
      @mistakitty 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a Dremel tool for both the metal and plastic when I had to trim for my rollbar. You might go through a wheel or two but it'll get it done.

    Is the padding and vinyl material available on its own for other roll bar makes? I have a UK/TR Lane one that could do with some!

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The padding and cover we sell is available separately, but is made to use only with Hard Dog roll bars. We can't guarantee fitment with other bars or brands, but there might be other options available for your particular bar!

  • @bry_man
    @bry_man 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    When the top is folded down, it looks like it does not lay all the way down due to an aftermarket non-zip down window. Or does it full go down? I wanted to install a harddog bar similar to the one on the video but i am concerned about it not folding all the way down.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If memory serves, that's actually an NB top conversion. This is an NB bar as well. You sometimes have to scootch the glass forward just a bit to get them to sit flat, that's a feature of the NB top. The bar doesn't prevent the top from sitting flat unless you have an oversize glass window.

  • @chamwow168

    Do you recommend painting the newly made metal cuts for rust or is it negligible?

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cuts inside the car should be shielded from the elements fairly well and have very little danger of rust.

      Those are factory components - it doesn't appear you can purchase them new any longer, so a Miata salvage operation will be your best bet: help.flyinmiata.com/en_us/does-flyin-miata-sell-used-parts-HJ6UkPUT8

      @paulferrara9079 We always torque these bolts to specifications, but that may have been cut from the final version of this video. The zip tie was not a permanent fixture, that is simply to hold the canister out of the way for filming. Thanks for watching!

    This bar was not properly thought out enough. Removing and changing too much of Mazda's engineering.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Besides some trimming on non-structural sheet metal components, and a few interior plastic bits, this doesn't remove any of Mazda's "engineering". We'd gladly sacrifice those small bits to make sure we survived a roll-over crash in the rare case of an accident. If you plan on doing any real track time, you're going to need some sort of roll bar or cage, and most of them will take a lot more modification that this one to fit.

    Great video. Sadly the fit with the bar cover that come with mine, not enough clearance for the top to go up and down. The edge rails of the top scratch the sides of the cover. So you have to wrap the tool bar cover with a towel to maneuver the top up or down without ripping holes in you cover.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear about that issue. We haven't had that issue with any of the bars we've installed, but there are many bars out there, some with better clearance than others, and we obviously haven't been able to test every bar, with every top in every situation.
