Carbon is 0.04% of the atmosphere, 97% of that 0.04% of atmospheric carbon is natural like from volcanoes etc, only 3% of that 0.04% of atmospheric carbon has been produced by humans in all of human history. Volcanoes are responsible for most of the natural carbon in our atmosphere, I suppose we could put corks in all the volcanic vents? 🤣 Carbon driven global warming is an excuse to tax us and raise the cost of our living astronomically, most scientists don't even know this stuff.
Hey Scott, I watch most of your videos and guess what I purchased? A 2000 Toyota Tundra, no rust, nearly mint. Only 168,000 miles! runs like brand new! What a deal!
Been working on miatas for a long time. They're the first car I ever fully rebuilt. If you live in the middle Tennessee area I can revive even the nastiest miatas. I even designed replacement parts that I 3d print including a short console, tombstone, and custom cup holders.
Bought my Miata new in 1991, limited slip differential, 5 speed, no power steering, hand crank windows, still a total blast to drive 31 years and 58,000 miles later… Everyone asks, isn’t that the car you had back when you were in your mid 30’s? Yep, going on 67, still get a kick out of cruising in it… Best part, I drive it sparingly, only on nice days, the car is in winter storage every year, all original paint, still looks and runs like new…
@@phatbaby4234 Yes, you can easily keep these like new because they were originally so well designed and built… Try that with most English, Italian or German sports cars and they’ll Bankrupt the owner…
I have owned Porsches, Corvettes, GTIs, and BMWs, but I've never owned a car that was as fun as my 2012 Miata. It just made me happy every time I drove it.
Come on, are you serious? It’s hard to believe you had better enjoyment out of Miata compared to porches , BMW and corvettes. Especially, against the Porsche
problem with Miata is that it doesn’t feel as planted to the road when going hw speed compared to a bmw. Seems the Japanese engineers are a step behind Germans when it comes to suspension design.
@@flargosaNC and ND Miata’s have an all aluminum double wishbone suspension design which is superior to BMWs macpherson strut configuration. What you are speaking of is the socks themselves. Miata’s all come with terrible stock shocks. If you drove an NC or ND with a proper coilover setup you would be mind blown.
Hello Scotty, You are 100% correct Miatas are "pure fun". Until recently I had a 1990 Year-One red Miata all original. Since I moved, I no longer had a garage and I hated to see it just sitting there waiting for summer in bad weather so I decided to sell it, but only to someone I knew, with a garage and that would take care of it. So, I decided to do a little research to help me sell it. That's when I discovered I had a very rare year-one Miata with the original Steel Rims. Also, it was the 2,260th ever made from car one...! The first three are at the Mazda Museum in Hiroshima, and of the first 5,000 ever made only a handful are still on the road the rest are all gone due to accidents, raced to death and modifications. I was the second owner, the original owner bought it new in Canada, where Mazda sent the first batch of Miatas sold to north America, thus the low 1989 assembly number. The new owner is a car nut and owns wine vinyards in Eastern Washington. I'm a bicycle mechanic and work on his nice bikes. When he caught wind i was selling it asking $6K, he said I'll give you $7K just to make sure you don't sell it while I go to the bank and get you cash! He has nice cars, including a new 2022 Corvette he bought for his wife. But his number one love is his Red Miata. He had it all detailed and replaced a few things with only original parts. He took it to a car show and sent me pictures as it proudly sat between a Green Lambo and a Red Ferrari. I also have first bids if he ever sells it.
I love my '91. Even with a supercharger, I ran for 100,000mi, the engine was still running at 240,000mi. Just installed a JDM motor, and looking fwd to another 200,000 mi. If I last that long. I'm 70 now. Can't beat em. Believe Scotty on this one!
I've got a 99% original, 300k mile A+B optioned '91 - bought it with 100k 22 years ago for $1200... . Took it on the 3500 mile 2014 Hot Rod Power Tour VA to western NC -IA-WI and back with a 10mm wrench and a tire patch kit for a tool box when it had 200,000 miles. Still has orig clutch, alt, starter, and all the engine sensors! I'm 75 and hate driving anything else....
I bought my '99 Miata 10 years ago for $5,500 at 101,000miles. I modified the thing to the teeth and drive it hard enough to be learning while I'm driving. I just replaced the engine at 200,000 miles. No regrets at all. In fact, I've got a turbo kit about to go on it. Nothing really breaks that isn't something that's my fault. Thank you Mazda.
I've had my Miata for 27 years. Only 50K miles and she looks like new. Nothing has ever gone wrong. Only thing I've done beyond fluid changes is the timing belt. Still has the original factory brake pads! Great cars - 100% reccomend.
I've had mine for 35 years and 321,000 miles. I did get the dreaded crank nose failure at 270k after a botched timing belt change but a new Mazda crate engine fixed it right up and I should be easily good for half a million miles now!
I'm sure it's a beauty but only 50K in 27yrs? That's an average of less than 1900 per year! I'm averaging over 14k per year on mine. I absolutely love driving it. Although where I live, I can drive it year round. Perhaps you live in a colder, multi-season environ. If not though, get out and enjoy it some more!! You can't take the miles with you!
@@Buzz65 I was averaging around that on mine for the first 21 years before adding my Fiesta as my everyday car and relegating the Miata to weekend use which dropped it down to 4000 miles/year or so which dropped even further as I started working from home in 2020 and only now is starting to tick up again now that I'm in the office 2 days a week. But I see where he's coming from, I have a 2017 RF too (inherited from my late mother) and I'm lucky to drive it 500 miles a year as it's only driven on nice days.
@@Buzz65 You got it - I live in a very soggy part of Canada so top down weather is pretty limited and I won't drive it in the wet. As you note it does not get many miles put on it and I probably should sell it, but it has been so reliable and doesn't take up much space in the garage , plus it is such a treat to get out in it on a nice day.
Rust is the killer in the UK for the Miata (called the MX5 here). Rear arches and sills are usually rotted out at 12-15 year old, repairable but a big job. The underside, even in the later ones (7-8 year old) can get very rusty and scabby. I was going to buy one but bought a Toyota MR2 Spyder/Roadster, that was 11 years ago and it's still rust free (dry weather use only) and has never given any mechanical problems.
Back in 2002 I found a 1990 Miata w 5 speed sitting in the grass at a house in the country . I left a note on their front door and 2 days later I bought it for $600 , including a Hardtop ! I didnt want the hardtop so I sold it for $575 . I put a clutch slave cylinder in it ( about $32.00 at O Reileys ) And we fired it up . I changed the timing belt and drove it for over 10 years but only in the Summer . Lots of good memories in that car . Its the Go Kart I never owned as a kid .
Have a 92’ with original hard top. 170K miles and still goes great. On the 3rd soft top. 3rd water pump. Many break jobs but just replaced original rotors. It is a ‘B’ model with electric windows and all the extras. Best car I’ve ever owned.
NC2 owner here, those cars are just perfect. I moved overseas recently, and I’m happy to have been able to bring it with me. I never get bored hearing or seeing people talk about Miata’s. And the community is something unique !
@@Humanaut. I have not, and the best way to get an objective opinion is to watch the reviews from straight pipes or everyday driver, they each reviewed the ND and the GR 86 side by side.
Did about half a million kilometers in two different Miatas with no issues at all. Still own two of them and won't give them away, as long as I can get in and out!
I showed this very video to the New York Philharmonic Orchestra on the overhead projector; following the conducting of Scotty's hand signals, they started playing Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture!
Ha, Bought a 92, 9 years ago, had the Auto trans flushed 8 years ago, drive it around 5000 km each year. Never had a problem with it & it still shifts fine. cheers
Several years ago I sold my '70 Cougar XR7. Nice Muscle Car. After a year or so I purchased a 2002 Miata with 124,000km with an auto because the wife wanted to be able to drive it. (she wouldn't drive the Cougar even though it was an auto.) I enjoy driving the Miata. It's not a race car but a fun car. Handles great, like a go kart.
I so miss my 2001 NB. Drove it like a bat out of hell every day for 15 years and 200,000 miles...until an F250 clipped my rear quarter panel, sending me into the median at 50+. I still walked away scratch free, the most pain was a bruise across my chest from the seatbelt. I so miss my baby.
My parents had one and I drove it a lot in the Berkshires of New England. Like Scotty says, it is fun and reliable. You can have tons of just enjoyable miles with this car.
A friend of mine had a late 90's Miata manual. It was very fun to drive. Small and quick. Responsive manual. Just a pleasure. They don't make em like this anymore for the price.
I picked my 1992 Miata up for $700 6 years ago, all that was wrong was a wheel bearing, I've since put 40k on it, at 256k now, but I've been everywhere in it and I'll never be the same again. I currently have two now, 2010 Grand Touring, just as fun, even more comfortable for road trips. I 100% recommend any generation Miata to anyone wanting a fun, reliable car
Picked one up a couple of months ago, It's a few hundred less horsepower than my troubled car in the shop....but honestly it's just a lot more fun to drive. The fun per dollar ratio is just unbeatable right now.
@@analogueoverdigital929 many cars have inline 4s and timing chains, golf gti for example. I believe you mean longitudinal with chains. I’m that case NC or ND Miata’s. I personally want more belts again and non interference engines
I had a 97 Miata and I am sorry I ever sold it. They are like you said a blast to drive. I could reach for the top and raise it with one arm. Now never try that when driving because the air catches it but just pull up to a light and reach back pull the top up and latch it. They run forever and are cheap to maintain and fix and you can go around freeway flyovers that are 45 at 80 and feel like you are glued to the road. I will admit it is like riding on a skate board when you first get one but they are great cars and a ton of fun.
I had a 1990 Ford Festiva. Same B series engine but the smaller B3 1.3L. Selling it was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. It was such a fun car to drive, 40+ mpg, and I could fit a dozen 8' 2x4s in it. Recline the passenger seat, put them under the passenger dash, and the rear hatch still closed. Similar car. Same fun. I had it during the economy crash of 2008 when fuel prices spiked.
@@houtyfish273 Sometimes I wish I was a mechanic who knows how to work on car, then I could also know what cars are good (I know there are guides, like Scotty's videos. Nothing beats real life experience though)
@@HueghMungus That is ideal. I'm not a mechanic, but for various reasons, mostly tired of being ripped off, I started teaching myself, one job at a time. Subsequently, I have worked on a bunch of Japanese cars (we swore off local cars after owning a Dodge and a Taurus). I taught myself one job at a time. But the best experience for me has been ownership.... that really teaches you what is good, and what is... not so good.
Hey Scotty, engine upgrades are plentiful - all the way up to a 350 V8 crate motor! On my 2013, I put in a 2.5 Ford Focus motor with a turbocharger, and got 335 rear wheel horsepower with the stock camshafts! Upgrading camshafts, you could get about 450 rear wheel horsepower! It was a BLAST! Of course, I also upgraded the wheels and tires to put that kind of power to the ground, after all, it only weighed about 2400 lbs.
Scotty, I watch you channel all the time, I really enjoy it. I'm 69 and have been wrenching on cars since I was a kid..you described the miata the same way I do,,a go-cart for adults. when I was a teenager I loved driving my Aunt's MG Midget. Btw, I own 4 Miatas: 2 NAs, 1 NB and 1 NC and an ND is in my future. I agree with you on the tesla, especially the truck. When I see a tesla, I always think that person has more dollars than sense. thanks for your videos
My Miata is a BRG LE Special Edition 1994 (yes a 1994!) with msss1 📻 kind of rare I just love it! ❤️ still look like new always sleep in a garage in winter!🥰
I bought a 1999 10th anniversary edition Miata in February of this year. This little roadster is the most fun I've ever had on four wheels! Handles like nothing I've ever driven. Hey, it's even more fun than a motorcycle. Never thought I would say that! And yes, I'm wide awake and not dreaming! Enjoy it, Scotty.
Great review, Scotty. Agreed with just about everything you said. I do have one concern about that specific car that you should tell your customer about. I've been working on these things for years, so I know from experience that the factory radiator's plastic housing should be black. When they start to turn brown or olive green, like the car you're reviewing, it often means that the chemicals in the plastic are starting to break down. It's only a matter of time before a crack develops. Just from visually inspecting what you showed on camera, everything else looks good...but that radiator would be the first thing I replace so I'm not left stranded on the side of the road. Cheers!
Couldn't agree more. I Just sold one, and while driving it to the gas station to fill it up, I had the feeling.... and yes....smiles per gallon is absolutely right.
I love manual transmissions also. But yeah I feel this way about my 1995 240sx Nissan Silvia S14. It’s also jdm. I paid $5k for it…. Goes for 3-5x that now.
Yeah I used to drive 1992 240 SX and it had a HUD with the speed. I thought that all cars should have that. Was very high tech and had seat belts that electronically come up when you turn on engine. After my transmission locked up. Got a good used transmission from junk yard and the car was super fast. Love that car. The acceleration was amazing and it was automatic.
Yeah! I have a few car-enthusiast friends who recommend getting a used manual Miata, for the same reasons you mention, Scotty: a true roadster that's fun to drive and easy to own.
Buying one after this weekend garage kept 74k miles 6speed just did a test drive and fell in love immediately. What a joy to drive lol fully rebuilt gear box and clutch so it’s crisp. I’m pumped!!
I own an NA 1996, new to me in 2014. Only used in summer in Scotland, starts first time every time after it’s winter rest. Only failure in 8 years was the clutch slave which was cheap to replace. Drives beautiful for a 26 yr old car and it only has 15,000 miles on the clock! Love it.
Have a 2008 . Replaced radiator, but because of an accident. New clutch and I have replaced the oil many times every 3 or 4 months because I'm paranoid and so far my motor is at $184,000 mi 6 speed manual Grand touring hardtop
A cool thing to do is wire in an air horn instead of the "meep meep" stock horn. You have to wire up a relay that draws power from the headlight motor circuit (or anywhere) because the horn circuit can't drive the airhorn. The much much louder horn comes in really handy on highways when very large trucks lose track of their lanes.
@@taylorc2542 Honda made the S2000 for only about ten years and only about 110,000 were made. Mazda has made over a million Miatas, which means more parts are available for the Miata too.
This time I agree with you in 1998 I bought a 1990 Mazda Miata basic model with 26,000 miles on it from a dentist. I drove it downtown almost every day in the summer in Chicago I was the union plumber and caught a lot of crap for it no pun intended. Crank up Windows stick shift pop-up headlights. I loved it it was a lot of fun. 🤯😳🤠
I have no time for someone that questions my patriotism based on nothing but the cars I choose to like. They can shove it. It's the main reason I don't get involved in car clubs much.
Mr Scotty, welcome to the world of Miata. I've owned the 1.8L like yours for almost 10 years and currently have the older 1.6L for almost 6 years. Let me warn you though... you're going to get bored with it. Why?... because you won't have to fix anything on it 😁
Had a ‘97 I bought secondhand and loved it, but the only thing I didn’t like was that it didn’t have AC for those super hot days. I rectified that several years later with a more recent straight off the showroom model, which I’ve owned for 15 years and still love it! Never had an unexpected maintenance issue with either, just the standard maintenance schedule. Wonderful pieces of machinery!
I feel this way about my 2012 Camry SE, has to be one of the best cars ever made. I'm at 176K miles, take extra good care of it and hope to get 300K from it.
Same aim with a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport, just crossed 200k miles. Maintenance maintenance maintenance, attention to detail, care respect learning and love.
i daily a 1996 miata. its the 5 speed 1.8l but with a twist. its on aftermarket coil overs, stage 1 flyin miata clutch kit, jackson racing m45 supercharger with track dog racing front mount intercooler, 700cc injectors, megasquirt plug n play 2 stand alone ecu, flex fuel fit, and its tuned with maps for both 91 and e85. car runs strong and its a hardtop with aftermarket braces. stop tech pads and rotors. i put a kenwood head unit and speakers in it with a ported 700watt 8 inch sub in the trunk. its a fun car and id never get rid of it.
Smiles for gallon is 100% accurate. The one thing though that sets it aside from some other roadsters is that you can really hone your driving skills on them, especially since they are lower on power, you have to get good to be fast. The steering is super light and precise, turns in with just a thought, and the road feel is fantastic.
Hey Scotty, thanks for giving Mazda some love! Many of us fans of the marque have been waiting for you to realize how great these products are, especially the Skyactiv models
Currently on my second which I've had now for about 7 years. It's my daily and my weekend and I love it. As you say they're not fast but you get the revs up and you're driving like you're breaking the speed limit but without the tickets. Just amazing fun.
I bought my 2005 miata in 2019 For $5Gs with 117,000 miles,,, cash via Craigslist in texas. 1 year later replaced the clutch $1G, 1 year later new drive shaft (joint) and tune up (new sparkplugs, etc) $1,200 dollars. I love my miata drives smooth
I need that on my Tacoma---$280 labor and about equal amount in parts----belts, water pump, gaskets and a lot more. (Haynes & Chilton say not to even try it, if you never did it before).
LOL yup I owned a '97 M Edition for over 13 years and and this is why I paid to have mine changed, twice, when I owned it! I thought about it briefly the second time around when it also needed a water pump, but after reading the instructions in the service manual ultimately said NOPE! Figured I could do it, but figured I didn't have room in the garage and didn't want it sitting outside partly disassembled over at least one weekend and knowing me probably two! :D One thing Scotty didn't mention, as I understand it the NA's at least were "non-interference" engines, if the belt breaks of course the engine won't run and you aren't going anywhere but good news is it shouldn't damage the engine, no contact between valves and pistons. However, 1990's and early '91's had a smaller crankshaft front "nose" with smaller diameter and different pulley to match it and if the instructions weren't followed to a "T" including replacing the key, torquing the crank pulley bolt and using loctite, you ran the risk of it loosening and wobbling and ultimately snapping off the front of the crankshaft which meant replacing either the crankshaft or the whole engine! $$$$!!! YIKES. Also as another person mentioned, the one in his video should have the radiator replaced soon--the plastic top starts out black, then fades to green and then brown and when it gets to a brown color it is gonna be leaking and cracking soon! I did do the radiator and upper radiator hose myself, that really is an easy job, only took me help of one friend and about 4 hours (including cleanup which was considerable LOL) and 1 or 2 trips to the parts store!
I have a 2001 Mercedes SLK 230 6 speed standard trans that I've been thinking of selling but because it's not worth much, so I keep it. It has it all: power seats and windows, hard top that goes into the trunk with the push of a button, great acceleration. It sits at our lake place most of the year and starts like new every spring. Your video made me appreciate the car so much more, I'll hang onto it. Thx
The most fun car I've ever driven was the Honda Del Sol. I imagine these are more fun with rwd but the Del Sol is a go-kart with an airbag. Fun little cars but both are getting harder to find in decent condition
@@58gennaro I hope you find one! My neighbor had one outside for a couple months. I finally stopped to ask them about it and they had just got rid of it - couldn't get it started. A week earlier and maybe I'd have a Del Sol for you 😂. I have an RSX-S A-Spec collecting dust, that's also a fun car but it's not as fun as the Del Sol. The power window for the rear glass and how the top panels tucked into the trunk blew my mind at the time. Good luck on your search. Do you have plans to put something a lil quicker inside? Assuming you don't find the coveted b16a3 version, maybe swap a b16 or gsr in? The one I had was d16z6 but still really fun as-is
@@CharacterZero89 lolol. Nice. Understeer like a B?! My daughter wanted my TL-S as her first car. I said no way and sold it to a friend. Did you pull from an accord or tl?
We bought one of my daughter's one year's ago. The lady that owned the company she worked for bought it new. My daughter's boyfriend had an accident in it, the driver's door wouldn't open and needed replaced, but she sold it. It was a manual shift, a really fun car to drive. One owner before my daughter, I wished later I would have kept it for myself. Like driving a go cart.
Looked at one way back in 2007 looking for my first car. Ended up with an Accord coupe that was as old as me because I wasn't confident with driving manual at that point. For anyone wondering, a Honda S2000 with the race clutch is NOT a good confidence builder for someone learning. Teach in an old S10 or Ranger, they're forgiving and don't take off like V6 coupes will. I speak from personal experience, your mileage may vary. Even with an aging Camaro RS now, I still have to pay attention when I'm stuck behind a slowpoke. It will leap if I get sloppy, and they won't. However, there's absolutely no justifiable reason to not enjoy what you drive. The Miata is proof that you can find something economical that's still fun.
I owned a '97 MX, last year of the flip up headlights, bought it in '99 from a woman that never drove it much, garage kept. I drove the piss outta it, changed out the timing belt only once after 6 years, drove it until the top started to decay in 2017, at 20 yr old it drove like a new car. As I got older it was getting harder to get in and out of it. I called it " the magical time machine ” cuz it got me there in no time flat!
Hi Scotty! There’s a car (Lexus is 350 C) which needs love online. It’s the convertible variant of the is series from 2010-2015. I have one. It’s one of the COOLEST hard top convertibles out there but NO ONE gives it love. It’s not a copy and paste either, the only shared part with the sedan is the hood. You should get one on your channel
I had 5 Miata's in a row. One from each era up to 2020. I also owned the very last "MazdaSpeed" made, which was a Miata on steroids with a factory turbo. The MazdaSpeeds could NOT be serviced at any old Mazda dealer while under warranty. Only a certified MazdaSpeed dealer was allowed to work on them, and as I recall, there was only 50 MazdaSpeed dealers in the United States. But I will say this... the Miata's in ANY form are absolutely bulletproof! Best engines on the market... period!
I have 07 nearing 200k... Before the crazy spike in used car prices I was going to buy a 2015. ... Their bullet proof... But now there over $6k higher ...
I just finished my third repair on my miata. All 3 antennas! AC quit a while ago, who cares. 24 years, 86000 miles. Who makes something this reliable, fun, and good looking? Cheap fun I can afford to let sit in my garage for most days.
AYYUUUUP that's about how it is down here, isn't it? I miss mine, want another and figure I'm gonna have to buy one out of state to get one in decent condition for reasonable money! Should've known something was up when the local Mazda dealer offered me $2200 in trade for my admittedly beat to hell 145k miles '97 M Edition with tired paint especially on the hood which looked about like it had been buffed with sand, and in some real need of mechanical attention--I'd figured they'd offer me a few hundred and I'd have turned 'em down and keep it as a play toy, but couldn't resist what they offered, so it made me sick when a few weeks later I saw my same '97 it at a "buy here pay here" car lot for $7900!
I just put a turbo on my 01 with 200k miles, it just won't die, and I run it hard. I'm 62, and I'll never sell this car, they'll have to bury me in it. I've had just about every sports car over the years, and something about a Miata I just can't get over. I think it was my neighbor giving my a ride in his MG back in 77, and he freaked me out by pulling the stickshift out going down the highway.
Wish I could find one like that with a hard top included for $4,500 bucks. Couple years ago yeah but like everything else even those have shot up, at least in my area. Now people want like $9-10K for something in similar condition.
I've a '99 and love it, has an automatic, but I still love it. Had to install an aftermarket cruise control in it to prevent leg cramps on long drives, but I sill love it. 102,000 miles and still purrs like a kitten. did I say I love it? I love it.
@@melsmundo The only reason I've never purchased one is I carried a lot of equipment so it wouldn't have been practical. Also living where I do I wouldn't feel safe driving it, for more reasons than one. Doesn't do away with the fact that every time I see one my heart skips a beat.
@@keithbellair9508 on the contrary, I've ridden in quite a few muscle cars. They're a turn off for me and I wouldn't take one if it was given to me. It's really a matter of what I prefer, not what I haven't experienced. Get outside of your own head and you might understand. By the way ... "kist"?
I got one of these 1992 -10 yrs ago. Love it. Funny story. My friend had it in his garage for 8yrs, never drove. I keep bugging in him to sell it to me.

Yep, going on 67, still get a kick out of cruising in it… Best part, I drive it sparingly, only on nice days, the car is in winter storage every year, all original paint, still looks and runs like new…
Nice. Goes to show if you keep up on maintenance a car can last forever.

I have owned Porsches, Corvettes, GTIs, and BMWs, but I've never owned a car that was as fun as my 2012 Miata. It just made me happy every time I drove it.

I love ❤️ my 1996 Mazda Mitia.
yeah man i used to hate on these things... now im buying an NC lol
I also have first bids if he ever sells it.
that’s so wholesome!
We've had ours for 30...196k...nothing but routine maintenance and timing belts. They really are incredible little cars!
This is the 1000th time you've found the 'best car ever made'.

I left a note on their front door and 2 days later I bought it for $600 ,
including a Hardtop !
I didnt want the hardtop so I sold it for $575 .
I put a clutch slave cylinder in it ( about $32.00 at O Reileys )
And we fired it up .
I changed the timing belt and drove it for over 10 years but only in the Summer .
Lots of good memories in that car .
Its the Go Kart I never owned as a kid .

It's the "smiles per mile" that counts!! Go Scotty Go!!
Picked one up a couple of months ago, It's a few hundred less horsepower than my troubled car in the shop....but honestly it's just a lot more fun to drive. The fun per dollar ratio is just unbeatable right now.
Miatas came with timing chains starting in 2006.
But, as Scotty pointed out, the older belts are fairly easy to replace.

Bought one a few months ago and it's my first manual car. Been getting better at shifting and having a blast driving it.

Cheers!
Was going to say the same thing. Definitely time to replace that radiator
Thanks for the heads up! I just changed my anti freeze today and noticed the olive color.

I love the meep meep it's so cute

If you can change the timing belt in an hour, for me that equates to 2 days and 4 trips to the auto parts store.

I've owned two Del Sols and looking for another. Owned a 2000 Miata. I prefer the Del Sol. Miata's interior is too cramped.
The one I had was d16z6 but still really fun as-is
I'm j35 swapping a del sol right now. Gonna be around 400whp. Gonna hurt a lot of feelings.
@@CharacterZero89 lolol. Nice. Understeer like a B?! My daughter wanted my TL-S as her first car. I said no way and sold it to a friend. Did you pull from an accord or tl?
Del Sol is nothing compared to a Miata
We bought one of my daughter's one year's ago. The lady that owned the company she worked for bought it new. My daughter's boyfriend had an accident in it, the driver's door wouldn't open and needed replaced, but she sold it. It was a manual shift, a really fun car to drive. One owner before my daughter, I wished later I would have kept it for myself. Like driving a go cart.
Been known this. Owned a NA6 for YEARS. Still the favorite car I ever owned. Scotty hasnt heard the classic saying “The answer is always Miata”.
“Miata Is Always The Answer”

Yes... the MX5 Miata ... great little car and super fun to drive !!!
I love my miata❤ it sits all winter in the garage like a motorcycle and comes out in the summer. I live in Sweden but will never sell it😊
As an NA Miata owner and fanboy I approve of this message
I had 5 Miata's in a row. One from each era up to 2020. I also owned the very last "MazdaSpeed" made, which was a Miata on steroids with a factory turbo. The MazdaSpeeds could NOT be serviced at any old Mazda dealer while under warranty. Only a certified MazdaSpeed dealer was allowed to work on them, and as I recall, there was only 50 MazdaSpeed dealers in the United States. But I will say this... the Miata's in ANY form are absolutely bulletproof! Best engines on the market... period!
Thank you Scott my daughter has a 2009 Mazda Miata it just got 100,000 miles and still going. She's had for ten years now. 👍
I have 07 nearing 200k... Before the crazy spike in used car prices I was going to buy a 2015. ... Their bullet proof... But now there over $6k higher ...
4500 with that condition? that's a unicorn nowadays specially here in CT. Most Miatas asking price here is not even below 6k and they are ragged
Scotty, I sure love the reliability of my 1980 V8 Buick 231 (Rover 3.5) powered Triumph TR8...arguably Triumph’s best effort.
I just finished my third repair on my miata. All 3 antennas! AC quit a while ago, who cares. 24 years, 86000 miles. Who makes something this reliable, fun, and good looking? Cheap fun I can afford to let sit in my garage for most days.
Average price for a used one in Florida is around 10k. Not $4500
Wow! That’s ridiculous!
AYYUUUUP that's about how it is down here, isn't it? I miss mine, want another and figure I'm gonna have to buy one out of state to get one in decent condition for reasonable money! Should've known something was up when the local Mazda dealer offered me $2200 in trade for my admittedly beat to hell 145k miles '97 M Edition with tired paint especially on the hood which looked about like it had been buffed with sand, and in some real need of mechanical attention--I'd figured they'd offer me a few hundred and I'd have turned 'em down and keep it as a play toy, but couldn't resist what they offered, so it made me sick when a few weeks later I saw my same '97 it at a "buy here pay here" car lot for $7900!
i wouldn't pay more than 2k for one
then again Florida is the best place to drive one
I just put a turbo on my 01 with 200k miles, it just won't die, and I run it hard. I'm 62, and I'll never sell this car, they'll have to bury me in it. I've had just about every sports car over the years, and something about a Miata I just can't get over. I think it was my neighbor giving my a ride in his MG back in 77, and he freaked me out by pulling the stickshift out going down the highway.
Sounds like a gem, Scotty! You definitely look like you're having fun!
I have a mx5 from ‘91, best car ever! You just can’t get the smile off your face when driving this little dream!
Wish I could find one like that with a hard top included for $4,500 bucks. Couple years ago yeah but like everything else even those have shot up, at least in my area. Now people want like $9-10K for something in similar condition.
Yeah 4500 for no rust, cold AC and a hardtop is the steal of a lifetime. Been years since that was the going rate.
I've a '99 and love it, has an automatic, but I still love it. Had to install an aftermarket cruise control in it to prevent leg cramps on long drives, but I sill love it. 102,000 miles and still purrs like a kitten. did I say I love it? I love it.
Man, I have ALWAYS wanted one of those cars!
check craigslist, my brother purchased 2 from there!
@@melsmundo The only reason I've never purchased one is I carried a lot of equipment so it wouldn't have been practical. Also living where I do I wouldn't feel safe driving it, for more reasons than one.
Doesn't do away with the fact that every time I see one my heart skips a beat.
Haha you kist have never seen a real sports / muscle car
@@keithbellair9508 on the contrary, I've ridden in quite a few muscle cars. They're a turn off for me and I wouldn't take one if it was given to me. It's really a matter of what I prefer, not what I haven't experienced. Get outside of your own head and you might understand.
By the way ... "kist"?
me too, sadly they practically don't exist in my country
I got one of these 1992 -10 yrs ago. Love it. Funny story. My friend had it in his garage for 8yrs, never drove. I keep bugging in him to sell it to me. He told me his wife refused to let him drive it b/c she had a dream that he got killed in it. Well I got it it had 36k miles on it. Had to clean out the mice nesting in the a/c . Started right up. It now has 60k on it. Yahoo!!
My brother-in-law wanted one of those since they were brand new but he's 6'2" and didn't fit him. A year ago he bought one of the newer Miata's, he fits in that; loves it.
scotty i am 88 now and the best auto was a 09 ram 1500 i gave up driving this past april and gave to my son ibought it new i put 72 000 miles on it -----it was the most tbl free auto i ever had i started driving in 1950 at 16 yrs so i have had afew
