Mold in that location is usually due to blocked roof drains. You guys probably already checked / cleaned them, but if anyone faces the same issue, now you know how to fix it.
@@Patrick94GSR yeah but the reason a chunk is missing is because they squeeze it through the seat (which isn't stock) and the door. If it broke from rubbing on stock parts they would definitely do it. I guess they could just not mention they put new seats in lmao
If you're looking for some added floor stiffness, I recommend looking at the Flying Miata Frame Rail/Butterfly Brace. I've had mine installed for a couple weeks and it's been great.
The LRB panels wrapped in black vinyl will really give that OEM plus look and will be able to give the seat the clearance it looks. Think you guys would be a fan, and they're cheap. Cars looking great guys!
I have the LRB door panels - they are great. Stock NB doors and steering wheel - my thigh would stick between the bottom left of the steering wheel and the pull handle on the door. I installed the LRB panels and also a works QR hub / dished steering wheel and now my left leg can sit completely between the left side of the wheel and the door if I want it to. I'm 6ft1 and my legs aren't skinny. I know your comment is from 2 years ago, but wanted to reply in case any tall drivers are on the fence about the LRBs. I have mine bare metal and they don't get too cold/hot. In the summer the paint on the top of my door gets hotter than the LRB panels.
Thanks for the video. I have been looking for a roll bar for my NA. Local bars (made in Canada) are going for $650-700 CAD (new or used), the Hard Dog is $900 CAD after shipping to Toronto. The GC2 roll bar shipping from the UK is about $580 CAD.
That's a good point about shipping, Dave. It is cheaper and often faster to ship things from the UK to Canada than to buy from the US. I have also found that buying from Japan is often cheaper and quicker than buying from the US. - EMS is a great way to ship from Japan as it takes roughly a week to get to us in Canada and there is rarely duty to pay. - DHL is very quick from the UK or Japan. It usually takes 3-5 business days for an item to arrive. However, there is duty but it's usually much less than what you would pay by receiving a UPS/FEDEX package from the US. RHDJapan is a really good site to buy Japanese parts from. It's in English and has built in currency conversion. For you rotary guys out there: Jimmy's in the UK is a great company to buy RX7 parts from. They have good prices, good service, and ship DHL to Canada for larger items.
@@sapinebez9084 Hi Monica yes, I did, Here's my run down. The shipping to Canada was not very good. See if you can do it with UPS and not Fedex. Other than that I have to say that BOFI racing is the nicest company you could hope for. They were more than fair to deal with. You may order with confidence. Take your time with the install and have a helper. Yes, the seats go all the way back however, on the rollbar I ordered (the smaller one) I find that the stock seat back does rub and squeak on the rollbar. I am very long through the torso so I can get away with having the seat all the way back but not reclined too much. I have the glass back window and there is no issue with clearance. If you have the 'speaker/wind deflector' on your car I'm afraid that has to go. At least I've not found a way around that yet.
Get frame rails. Cheap mod that will do the same job as those bars without intruding into cabin space. If you want to go all out, flyin miata sells a full butterfly brace.
Thanks for this vid. I would've never found that roll bar if it weren't for this. I was looking around and the Hard Dog roll bars are a pretty popular choice here in the US, but they're pretty pricey when you include the harness bar and door bars. The BOFI bar looks way beefier and is very affordable. My price to the US with the door bars was just a tad over $800, which quite a bit less than the equivalent Hard Dog setup.
The trick for fitting a seat in a Miata is to use a big hammer on the transmission tunnel. Pound it into submission and you’ll get more room. The nice way is to cut and weld but with that seat a little massaging would go a long way.
Very good video! I read that the Robbins Rod with glass does not fit with that roll bar. Can you comment on this? What roof do you have? Glas or plastic window? Thanks
I dont know about any International websites that sells these, as i haven't done any research. I have the same thing at home, and it works wonders. Mine is a dr. Dirt gun, and i think you could find it if you search for dr. Dirt interior cleaner or something. Hope this helped a little bit
Hi, I'm Pete and I like to drill out metal without eye protection. Yea, I chirped ya! But only cause I care about your beautiful eyeballs. Keep up the good work boys!
The thumbnail for this video looks like a walker in front of a Miata. If you use a walker to get around and can still get into a Miata, you already have my respect.
I want to install a roll bar in my NA Miata that I drive on the street and occasionally autocross. Would the roll bar be unsafe and unwise for street use? I have been hearing reports that if you drive with a roll bar without a helmet you run the risk of your head hitting the roll bar from a minor rear end. Thoughts?
A roll bar should be impossible to hit with your head, it should be behind and above you with your headrest blocking it. A full cage on the other hand is very dangerous and you definitely shouldn't street drive with one. Also don't ever use harnesses on the street or at any time if you dont have a HANS device on. If you don't contain your head it continues moving forward while the rest of your body is held tight and you could snap or severely injure your neck even at stop and go traffic speeds.
Idk which one he bought, but the only tool I know like that is from a brand called Tornador, check them out. I think another option may be from Griots Garage, they might call it an “air gun.” They aren’t the least expensive tools in the world though..
It's exceedingly uncommon to have a race seat of any type just bolt into an NA/NB chassis. Most seats require hammering out the transmission tunnel. A lot of the time the factory seat mounts also have to be completely removed in order to put a race seat low enough to be of any use for even an average height driver. If you care to try a different seat, Track Dog Racing has a Miata-specific version of the Ultra Shield Rally Pro that fits extremely well.
I guess the moral of the story is to start with the base/chassis, move on to the rest of the mechanics then and deal with the interior last... unless these specific seats were a must for the body-types, worth the compromise on chassis rigidity the side-bars could provide.
The previous owner for my 01 miata left the seatbelt harness in place when is talking the roll bar so now the seat belt itself sticks-_- did you need to support the roll bar at the seatbelt roller?(top left behind driver seat) I want to loosen the roll bar to fix this but also don’t want to mess up the roll bar effectiveness. Thanks!
The roll bar has an extra hole on the bracket by the seat belt roller(above and behind the seat) and there is a thick bolt and nut in that bracket but not attached to anything. It’s concerning lol
Serious question with no hate, a miata or any roadster is really safe in a roll? I know that using a roll bar is better than nothing but you really have a chance to survive with a roadster in case of a roll? The A pillar doesnt look stiff enough I dont know, I want information from people who have seen it or experiencie it, I'm not a miata hater, in fact I love them and I almost bougth one two years ago, I'm just curious
The harness holes on the Pole position seats are way to low for anyone taller than ~180cm. If you are a tall person it's probably safer to use stock three point belt.
Having both a harness and 3 point belt installed is a great thing to be able to have but a specialising mechanic told me that it's illegal to even have both installed in the car at the same time in Australia regardless of how they're installed or which one you're wearing while driving. #redtape
Im gonna get a car in a few years and its probably gonna be a miata. I wanna do stuff like this to it. And u are scaring me by cutting so much out and using fancy tools.
Side note you guys were complaining about that mold. Guess they never installed a roll bar on an original NA miata that's been parked outside with the original factory plastic rear window lmao. And shockingly this car has no rust, i have seen rear shelf panels literally crumble in my hands after removing that carpet lmao
Mold in that location is usually due to blocked roof drains. You guys probably already checked / cleaned them, but if anyone faces the same issue, now you know how to fix it.
yep! that mold / moisture residue is directly from clogged drained coming the hole / cutout in the carpet right in that spot. such a common issue

Also turn down the tool sound.

might want to change the driver side standard seatbelt, looks to have a huge chunk missing! 15:04
Yeah definitely, Mazda should be able to replace that under the seat belt lifetime warranty. Assuming that exists in Canada.
Looks like somethings been chewing it 🐭

Getting stiffer door bushing help with the chassis bracing. I personally used 5x racing great stuff
I got the same ones and noticed a pretty good improvement.
The pre facelift NB is my favorite Miata, I have the identical one just with the 1.6... I am a novice driver, so 110 HP is totally enough.
Seam sealer on the plates before you bolted them up would be a good idea especially in Canada.

A nice tip now, a little to late is: if you plan on changing/upgrading the fuelpump, do it before you mount the roll bar !
Love this build! Can’t wait to see it done and ripping around the track!
Wonderfully professional install guys!
I bought one of these for my NB when I saw you guys posted it on Instagram, I love it!
Hi, Do you still use the stock seats? And if so do they go all the way back? I'm thinking about ordering the same bar for my NB.
