As an alternative to Oxy gouging, try using some Blue Demon BD8000 gouging rods (a.k.a "Angry Beavers"). I use the 1/8" rods for simple crack gouging when I'm short on time in lieu of the plasma, or oxy. I Also use dye penetrant to clearly define the cracks start/end points. Not trying to be critical, just adding additional information for your viewers. I know from experience that field repair work is waaaay more difficult than shop fab. As always: IMPROVISE. ADAPT. OVERCOME!

I'm getting ready to see Ant on top... This guy is something else! Am not gonna get all rollie pollie, but lets just say I started my Weld and Fab business a few months ago, and "some dude" on youtube was a huge inspiration...
Nice job buddy. I like seeing how others tackle work that is in the same field as I am in and as far as the machine goes if it works it works and that's all there is to it.
Anthony has a great big personality. The only constraint to his channel growth is that not everybody likes welding. But he could do many many other TH-cam media content and succeed as he has charisma - hope he gets a second channel that’s more general appeal. So I can watch him more often. Maybe a reaction channel for good and bad trade work.
Great video all ways great to watch and learn some things aswell. And I noticed the jingle bells tune with the torch your 4 months early 😂😂. Great work 👍👍
Dude i love your videos they are absolutely hilarious and help me quite a bit because im trying to become a mobile welder keep up the good work love the vids!
thanks for teaching us how to check if your rods are good.👍 did some muffler work on a 100amp century gasless mig welder. I ran it at heat setting 2 with a speed 5.5.. with .30 flux wire forney wire . did good till fumes got to my nose . Now im smelling burned material alot in my nose..great wire but very smokey bought it new sealed bag..
Nice repair - Just found your channel and subscribed. I recently bought a gouging tip for my torch, & an air arc torch. Using a 150amp inverter machine & 3/16" electrodes. Seems to be easier/more precise with the arc, vs using O/A (but I like having the option). Keep the gouging/7018 vids coming. Thanks!
You can air arc with 90 amps using 1/8s carbon rods or 1/4 rods with 140 amp so you can actually air arc with that bluestar, i used to do light air arc gouging with my miller 200le aead and a honda wheel barrow air compressor
@@cowleysmobilewelding if you stay under the duty cycle or use smaller carbon rods it's the same as burning regular rods , carbon arc gouging doesn't hurt a machine unless you have it maxed out and gouging nonstop all day long but even burning regular rods maxed out all day long will do that, just stay below duty cycle and don't Max out amperage
Way to be. I hate seeing people senselessly and expensively maim their farm equipment. They say never buy a truck from a farmer, and I think that’s not always right, but some of us sure are unkind to our iron. One of these days I’d like an engine driven welder too, but I’ve got a buzz box that’s mine and a harbor freight mig I can borrow so I can want one all I want and still not need one.
Love your content and attitude. But dude, you gotta wear hearing protection when grinding. At least some foam plugs! I’m not in the trades currently. I was a carpenter many years ago for a few years. Plus 7 years in the Army around loud diesel equipment. Now I am wrapping up 28 years in law enforcement. Even with wearing hearing protection at the range and anytime I go shooting, cutting my grass regularly, hobby car repair, home construction, home welding and grinding, I can definitely tell my hearing has suffered. You’re still a young guy. Preserve your hearing. You can’t get it back. Now if I go out to eat or other events and there’s a lot of background noise I can’t hear anyone who I’m with. It sucks. Otherwise I love your content. Keep up the good work! Mike
Hey Anthony something off topic what is going on with the truck you got at the auction? I know you was waiting on some paper work or something buy haven't heard or seen the beast in a while was just curious where you were at with it. Keep doing what you do brother.
Also to not have to preheat with a cutting torch when you dont want to get the metal too hot just do a fat 6010 tack where you want to start gouging and immediately start gouging and that metal will jump start the reaction with the steel and oxygen
Nice work. Inspires me to do more side work with my small setup. Question. Any reason you don’t use the Lincoln SA machine you’ve had setup on that truck previously?
Anthony you just crack me up . F**k the guys that got issues with your equipment. It’s your company, and your equipment, if you can get the job done with it great that’s all that matters.
Hey man. Ever though about using a go pro as a camera and just running it off a portable charger? I have a Hero 4 I'd send you for free if you're interested in trying it. I used it on my fpv quad for a year or two but now its just sitting around collecting dust.
On a high stress area like that, that has already failed at least once, why not add some strong gussets ? I've always been a big fan of gussets. It wouldn't be hard to keep a variety of gussets in your truck. The customers would see that you went the extra mile, with your repairs.
People dumb as hell if they think you need a big expensive welder to weld with, I’ve got a little dc welder and it runs 6010 and 3/32 7018 like a charm fuck what the nay sayers say keep doing what you do Anthony your vids inspire me more than most🤙
If the weld lasted 8 thousand hours I’d say it was a good weld if it held together that long in a rental machine you should try watching IC Weld not only is he extremely knowledgeable and skilled he does a lot of work on large EQ just like this one
Dude you HAVE to invest in a feeder, the type of work you do it's a major fuckin time saver and the weld ends up looking a little better in tight spaces.
Jingle bells with a torch!! Nice.
Thanks for keeping it real always! Love how you don’t sugar coat what you do
Whats means sugar coating!?

This was very helpful. I’ve been looking for a gouging alternative.
Realest guy around. Appreciate the honesty
I'm 30 and making a career change to welding starting school soon using my G.I. Bill. Love this channel killing it my man Meltin Metal Anthony!!
I really enjoyed the little Christmas jingle on the torch 👍👍👍 😂😂
I like the way you treat the “keyboard warriors.” Great work, sir!
Thanks bud!

A die grinder with a set of carbide burrs is great for Feathering out cracks and Vee i n g them out yes I know they're slow but they work great

Sure like that angle iron idea you got on your truck at @11:40

That's good to know. I've always wondered that.
It's pretty hard on your machine though. Did it a few times with my 250. Still not a fan of doing it with big blue pipe pro 400

0:52 😂😂😂 love this guy 😂😂
Man that was gnarled lol I would of done all of that with a grinder and kept A LOT of heat out of that thing
how many weeks have you been sitting on that one liner anthony
Nice, I am impressed with the Bluestar. I might have to look for one for use down on the farm. Things seldom break never repair equipment.

See you're notat confident in your Mller,I don't blame you!
13:03....I have done that so many times myself.....with a Tigerhood Flip Lens......laughing my Tookas off here....................
I used to weld loader arms for Case IH done a ton of repairs on them. Do you ever use carbon arc for gouging?
Don’t have the set up on this truck
I fcking love your attitude and character
Hey man question for you. Do you just run a piece of looks like 3x3 angle on the back of your truck to cut over to catch sparks and what not?
Love your content and attitude. But dude, you gotta wear hearing protection when grinding. At least some foam plugs! I’m not in the trades currently. I was a carpenter many years ago for a few years. Are you bringing your other rigs with you to Montana?

Two lines right there.
Jingle bells, have a blessed day América
Dope content my guy!! Keep up the hard work you blue collar bastard!!!
Did you say "get a rod oven"? Why didnt you heat the 🫙?
Anthony, you need a Victor / Smiths / Harris or whoever oxy/fuel flow chart.......
Ahh it don’t matter you end up adjusting no matter what a chart says anyway. I just start at 4/40 and adjust as needed
Which video is it that has the boom repair please?
Another good vid as always
Why are you using a cutting torch instead of a gouging set?
Better man than me! I got spoiled with my arc gouger... I tried to OXY gouge the other day and let's say it was less then ideal 😂
Why don't you use dual shield flux core? Just curious... I guess the added expensive gas would get pricey
It’s a windy bitch in Montana
Someone tell me do they not have safety guards on grinders in the USA? never seen anyone use one from mma to American chopper.
No one in America uses them. Fuk knows why. Using a wire wheel and gloves at the same time is 1 hand slip away from mince meat.
Also to not have to preheat with a cutting torch when you dont want to get the metal too hot just do a fat 6010 tack where you want to start gouging and immediately start gouging and that metal will jump start the reaction with the steel and oxygen

now what are you getting into.......cheers.....PB
Could you look into a chest rig? Might get around the permission aspect by avoiding camera setup and the issues with a wider view, etc.
Another entertaining and hilarious video. BTW Anthony, I will need to update to your new address for another box of goodies
Love the video's!!!

Bcbloc02 had a trick where he let the 7018 short out and heat up, in order to cook out the moisture. It looked legit, any thoughts?
that works well too. its just getting the dam thing off where you stuck it without breaking flux

why chip it if you're going to wire wheel?
Why ask such petty questions
Wire wheel ain't pulling all the slag outta a groove. You can get nice 7018 slag peels on fillets or groove cover pass, not the root or fill though.

Just when I get started down here in FL, you move to Montana and you don't put out as many videos dammit.
