      I had a heck of a time in welding school because I always got the base metal too hot. I didn't think I was ever going to pass my plate test.

    When you say “ it is real life weld and and i am gonna show you “ i really get motivated and encouraged, because you know every time someone shows you their best welds and you weld and the result not like theirs, it really make you down and you say i cannot be welder.
    So i really love your saying and showing us real life staff

      Most welders act like they never have an ugly Weld. we all get them. I’m glad it was encouraging. Make each weld better than the last.

      I give you a million dollar tip for passing your test. Clean your plates well remove all mill scale from the backing bar also before you begin! Don’t rush over heat the work piece most important clean slag and clean slag take your time on the restarts. Carry over your beads to the backing bar. Don’t be in a hurry

    I'm just about to make a rack in the garage of a friend of mine and I'm gonna use angle ~ 2" × 2" × 3/16" for the verticals and horisontal frames for the shelfs, for which I'm gonna use 3/4" plywood. I think to use 3/32" 7018 and I'm gonna have a lot of short fillets and butts in overhead, vertical and horizontal positions. Overal dimentions are around 13' × 9' × 2'.
    My question Chris is, should I bevel the ends of the members (with some landing) or not?
    Thank you in advance!

    I've always used 5p or 6011 for the first pass.
    But all in all, it was a great presentation.
    I've also known journeyman welders blow that last 3" out trying to get to the next weld.

    Thanks for the video. Too much heat, arc blow and undercut are usually issues with my 7018 verticals. I am starting a project I’d love your input on. A 60’x62’ corrugated grain silo that they want a 10’x10’ overhead door cut into. Any thoughts?

    Chris, what is your opinion of “weld engineers” who spec that they don’t want weaves, and want you to run stringers on vertical welds?

    • @TaylorWelding
      @TaylorWelding  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Great question. That weld really was too big. It would be considered a wave for sure. I’m not sure why they do that. In my opinion, it’s no big deal as long as your flux isn’t drying up behind you. But it doesn’t matter what my opinion is. If they won’t stringers, you got to give them stringers.

    • @SouthernGround
      @SouthernGround 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Many moon's ago the Navy sent me to "high pressure plate welding school at a shipyard on the east coast, all we did was vert and horizontal overhead" stringers, no weavywobbly what so ever, all 3/8" V'ed w/ a backer plate. the reason they told us not to weave was the risk of trapping slag. I did as ordered and got my thumb print on a piece of paper three months later. I think I suffer from 7018 vertical PTSD to this day over that ordeal 😳@@TaylorWelding
