  • Welcome to the very first episode of a series called XenoSpectives! This is a series where I break down every single cutscene from every single game in the Xeno series and take a look at many different perspectives on them. Of course, I'm starting with my favorite game in the series, Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
    In this episode, we take a look at the first two cutscenes from Xenoblade 2 that are actually way more in depth than I initially thought. They both provide a lot of symbolism and foreshadowing that don't disappoint. Thanks for tuning in!

      I want to futuraly make similar videos but in portuguese so that Brazilians and portugueses might understand better the franchise. Even if them won't get a lot of views, Xenoblade is what I love.
      Thanks for these videos Derajj! Xenoblade 2 doesnt get enough love, watching your videos about it is so damn good

    You are definitely reaching big time for some of these claims of foreshadowing and thematic significance, my dude.
    That said, I never noticed how the shot composition in the second cutscene runs parallel to what Rex is saying. Very cool detail.

      I'm pretty confident about the vast majority of what I mentioned, but there are some that, yes, are reaching. I did try to indicate that those are merely my opinion so I'm sorry if I made some of them sound like fact.
      As for Rex's monologue mirroring what is shown on screen, I agree! In fact, it was probably my favorite discovery from these cutscenes. Thanks for the comment!

    amazing video dude. I love this shit so much. all the xeno games have stuff like these and this is why it will always be my favorite series ever. I think you are entertaining without being too over the top also. But you never came across as cheesy if you know what I mean. Kept me engage the entire time. Definitely will be subbing. KEEP WORKING HARD YOU GOT THIS. Also you might think you are reaching to far into things but that's what makes analysis of anything fun. overanalyzing is not a bad thing at all.

    • @DerajjParallax
      @DerajjParallax  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This actually hit me different (in a good way). I was actually a bit worried I might be reaching too far with some stuff and might upset people in the process. I probably still will, but like you said, it's fun to overanalyze so its cool. Also, it's good to hear I've struck a good balance in tone. I appreciate the sub and your kind words! Glad to have you on this journey!

    I'm so glad my parents, who are pretty anti gaming by the way, arent completely clueless about games. Snd the ironic reason is because they KNOW they're mostly clueless about games. They KNOW they dont get the hype. They KNOW they don't get why it's fun. Hell even despite them hearing me chat and laugh with my friends, they know the dont see gaming as a social hobby.
    But with all that said, they aren't idiots. My mother has always rewarded my small help with buying me things to make my collection look nicer like cases or ink for me to print out box arts that I'm missing.
    My father is just thankful that my teens/early 29s are being taking by something harmlessly fun, as opposed to his less legal antics at my age.
    Hell even the issues they do have with gaming can really all be boiled down to one word: priority.

    I love Xenoblade 2 and love to see new things in old scenes, but this video feels like a massive reach. Feels like an overanalysis looking for things that aren't there (like the Rex salvager Diving scene, for example and the water bucket) I love the game and all, but it's not that deep ya know 😃😃

    • @DerajjParallax
      @DerajjParallax  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the comment! (Just to preface, none of what I'm about to say is intended to be malicious) You make a valid point. Some of these things might be reaching, but the truth is that unless they are confirmed or de-confirmed by the creators, we really have no way of knowing for sure if they are or not. I personally think not knowing makes it more fun to explore them. However, it's for this reason that I respectfully disagree with the statement that the game is "not that deep" because we simply don't know. I guess I need to do a better job of conveying that these things aren't fact, but the whole reason I named this series "XenoSpectives" is because I'm exploring different perspectives we can look at things through whether they are true or not (I even said in this video). With all that said, thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the honesty and the respectfulness!

    Truth be told, I don't like Rex's narration at the start of the second cutscene. The impression I get is that it's there because Xenoblade 1 started with narration too, but whereas the monologue in 1 explained details of the setting that would be awkward to reference during the big battle scene that starts the plot, 2's opening exposition is immediately followed by Rex and Azurda discussing literally the exact same concepts. The Cloud Sea you can obviously just use your eyes, but the Titans dying off, the myth surrounding Elysium in the World Tree, the Architect, they're all name-checked in the dialogue, making the narration redundant.
    I don't believe expository narration is 100% unnecessary all the time, however Xenoblade 2 has a much slower burn for its opening compared to the other games; I'm sure attentive listeners could get a grasp of the world throughout Chapter 1 even if they didn't have the opening monologue. Then again, a lot people dismissed the writing even after being told twice in a row, so maybe it's a good thing it's there to be extra sure. The game would need to find a new place to play "Elysium in the Blue Sky" as well.

      Interesting take. I personally like the narration but you make some good points. I will say it’s interesting how they choose to over explain certain elements of the story and leave us with so many answered questions at the same time.
      For instance, we were never explicitly told Glimmer is Pyra’s daughter to my knowledge (at least in the main story which is kind of the point), we have to piece that together. Nothing against either forms of storytelling, I just find it interesting. Could be different people involved in writing certain parts of the story too.
