@RevaliRavioli I put over 180 in to this which is more than botw or totk for me it’s just so good 😭 also that’s a freaking amazing username you have lol
I played Xenoblade 2 when it released and spent around 500 hours with it. It was one of the most magical game experiences i had. Seeing something you love so much get constant blind hate for years on end is exhausting. Last year, i introduced my wife to the series and xenoblade 2 became her favorite of the trilogy. I watched her play, watched her get attatched to the characters, and get emotional during the game. Seeing her share the same love for the game I have was a really nice experience.
"Despite everything that it doesn't do right, it does so much so perfectly" is the perfect quote for this game, excellent video keep up the fantastic content.
Thank you! That one wasn’t even in my script, it just felt like the best way to describe the game in the moment haha. It has so many flaws but it has so much life as well that it more than makes up for it bc it’s just such a joy to play thru. So glad you enjoyed the video!!
Xenoblade 2 does this really cool thing where unlike Xenoblade 1 and 3, it doesn't start in this heart pounding fight. It just lets you feel the vibes of the cloud sea and the world as a whole. While I think Xenoblade 1 and 3 have super strong intros, I really love how you could tell Monolithsoft wanted to make a truly enriching world with 2. Will forever be my favorite of the 3 we have so far!
Yeah I agree! A super exhilarating start DOES hype people up, but the mellow beginning of XB2 felt super special to me. Like Rex was telling a story to a friend
I will say that Rex's outfit never bothered me because it fits his background and his personality really well. He grew up in Fonsett Village where lots of orphan kids like him grew up without parents by the caretaker Corrin. The village doesn't have enough funds to take care of all the kids much less sending them to get an education in Indol so that they can grow up independent. So most of the kids usually play by jumping off cliffs into the Cloud Sea and Rex did the same which is most likely where he thought to become a salvager to make money from those experiences. When he is old enough he sets off with Gramps to begin salvaging in order to make money to send back to the kids in Fonsett Village. Also having Gramps as his living space helped him save money as Rex would say, "Cos Gramps doesn't charge rent, hehe." Knowing that we can see that his outfit is the result of prioritizing optimization of his salvaging expedition and how frugal he is with spending money for himself. He would rather wear his work clothes constantly rather than have a change of clothes he can wear while he isn't salvaging in order to save money that he could send back home to his village. The beginning of the game shows that exactly as when he gets a 100,000 gold he thinks of buying a new cutting edge salvaging gear at first but believes that the folks at home needed the money more than him so he does just that and sends 90% of the money to a courier to send the money back home. We see the fruits of his labor as Corrin tells Rex how the money he sent back to the village helped many kids get into Indol to receive an education to have a better future. In addition I like his outfit because I can relate to his frugal nature with money as I grew up in a family who didn't have much money but valued others over myself. If I had any money I would use it not for myself but for my siblings and parents who I believed needed it more than me. This is why I see myself in Rex and how I can see the mindset the game is showing me his character which elevated him to be my favorite character in the entire Xeno Series. Now I'm no fashion expert but the design on Rex is of course a diving suit to help explore the Cloud Sea to salvage for him to make money. The Anchor on his left arm is to help hook onto thinks and pull him down to maneuver in the Cloud Sea. His shirt and pants are most likely similar to a wet suit where it can dry very fast and can keep him warm while in the Cloud Sea. The gaps are there because he isn't salvaging and are only covered to give him protection while circulating air in the suit. The boots have spikes to keep him anchored on the floor of tough surfaces in the Cloud Sea with the vest sealing up and allow for his helmet to attach. With all that I've described I feel that the issues with his design are mostly because he is a kid wearing a diving suit as his normal clothes rather than what you expect a main character to be wearing which are normal casual clothes. It is not suppose to be cool but a design choice to characterize him more of his background and personality when it comes to the world he lives in. That is all. Sorry if I ranted too long but I really loved Rex as a main character and hearing people say his pants are stupid makes me want to show that there is more to a design than what they see with their eyes. Whether or not the pants look weird doesn't matter as it works to characterize what makes Rex who he is. An optimistic boy who wants to help his family who adopted him after both his parents died.
I’m so glad you made this video! FE3H is also my favorite game of all time and this game is right behind it or maybe tied with it. I can’t believe how many peak RPGs we got on the Switch, and after such a long time of Nintendo not getting many RPGs in general. I still get chills even thinking about some of the story moments in Xenoblade 2. FE3H and the Xenoblade games have seriously made me cry more than anything else I’ve ever experienced
Glad you enjoyed the video!! The crazy thing about 3H and xc2 is that both are totally different takes on a post apocalyptic world, and they both hide that until the end of the game. They both have such good world building and they’re some of the switch’s finest imo
I’m so glad 2 was the first Xenoblade game I played and that I got to play it on launch back in 2017! That game and the Xenoblade series as a whole changed my life! I also got to hear “THINK YOU CAN TAKE ME?! DON’T FORGET ME!!” in all it’s glory before they patched it out! 😭
@@eeveestrations I’m sure there are plenty of videos out there that show what it was like. They probably patched it because people complained. People just don’t understand the vision! 😎
Pyra and Mythra are my second favorite video game characters. Their story is so compelling and their character is so likeable I am not afraid to admit the ending to this game made me emotional. I think Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the nintendo game that needs a remaster on switch 2 the most. If they modified some of the female blades designs (while still giving their OG designs as an option), improve the tutorials, and redo certain cutscene voice acting, I think people would finally truly understand the beautiful story, charcters, and messages this game portrays in a more accessible way. Great video, I love seeing people with a similar opinion on this game to me and it is a breath of fresh air from the constant (justified yet overblown) criticism on this game
I really hate seeing Py/My get so much hate bc people formulate their opinions on them based on their design or inclusion in smash, when they really have such an incredible story and interesting characterization. Especially Mythra! She’s definitely my favorite Xeno character by a long shot
Xenoblade 2 was my introduction to the series. Around 5-6 years ago, some of my friends had already played Xenoblade 2 and were quite insistent-they convinced me to give the game a try. The only thing I knew about the Xenoblade series beforehand was that the environments and worldbuilding looked impressive and overall quite intriguing. I played the game, and it took me around three months to beat it. When I finished it, I knew it was going straight to my list of all-time favorite games. Personally, I’m deeply drawn to games with strong philosophical and psychological themes, and discovering the Xenoblade series shifted my taste in video games towards a specific spectrum. I’m 26 now, and I played this game when I was 20 or 21. The stigma around the type of person who enjoys these kinds of games is quite misplaced, in my opinion. I’m currently a teacher in Real-Time VFX for Video Games, and Xenoblade 2, along with 1 and 3, has inspired me to be the best professional I can be. I greatly admire Takahashi's life's work, from Xenogears, which is still an absolute masterpiece, to the entire Xenoblade series to this day. I believe that Xenoblade 2 is the most emotional game overall, but I honestly feel that Xenoblade 3 is the best of the three. I beat Xenoblade 1 just two weeks before Xenoblade 3 came out, and I’m so glad I did. Xenoblade 3 is the result of Monolith learning from their mistakes, polishing details that might have made the experience worse, and successfully unifying the series. In particular, I’d say Xenoblade 3’s DLC, Future Redeemed, is the best video game experience I’ve ever had in my life, alongside the ending of Persona 5 (the original, not Royal, though I really enjoyed Royal too).
I still have to play future redeemed at some point, I couldn’t finish 3 but I know I need to get to FR some day bc everyone loves it and it’s got Shulk haha
@eeveestrations And Rex! Even I would tell you, my favourite character of all the Series probably is Rex from Futures Redeemed, he is an absolute chad.
@@eeveestrations girl you gotta finish 3 too! The ending is so good! In a way that breaks you emotionally but that’s expected from Xenoblade at this point lol
Peak. I think a loud minority dislikes the game and it always seems to be an age gap issue. The older JRPG fans seem to dislike the genres shift into anime-esque storytelling and aesthetic. The game is awesome
I think the minority for this game is especially loud, to the point it’s one of only a handful I’ve seen regularly get dumped on in places that have nothing to do with it. It’s so fun and I wish people would either give it a chance or just shut up about it
It took me playing the entire game and the entirety of Torna to realize that this probably has the best story in the entire series. It seems so silly in the beginning because of a goofy 15-year-old Sora-wannabe lookin' boy and all the tropes, but after playing through Torna and then just replaying the beginning...it clicked. It ALL clicked. The game had the story right in front of me the entire time and I was just blinded by the annoyances I had to really pay attention. It's astounding, joyous, heart-wrenching, soul shattering, and phenomenally fulfilling, I'm so glad I played it...but I'm sad that many people will never get far enough to appreciate it, and even worse that I can't blame them.
Love XC2. Best-selling entry in the series, easily the most important one in terms of bringing the franchise into the mainstream and the most popular one - despite having more vocal critics than the others. My favourite Xenoblade and my fave game (from a gamer who’s been playing stuff for 30+ years). Always cool to see someone fall for it too. Keep up the good work! :)
It’s crazy that for all its controversy and hate it gets, it’s the reason the series became as huge as it is. It’s so fun to play and really hard hitting emotionally and I really wish more people would give it a fair shot!
it’s a long shot but I’m holding on to hope that maybe the guy shown in the end of the x trailer is Malos/Logos cause it sounds an awful lot like him. I’d be down for a really good xenoblade warriors game tho!
Thanks for making a video about Xenoblade 2. Also thanks for sharing your artwork over the years! Xenoblade 2 is a fantastic game. Tetsuya Takahashi and the Monolith Soft team does a fantastic job at telling epic stories while immersing yourself in massive fantastic worlds.
I love how all the rare blades have such unique personalities, and playing through their individual quests added so much to the game. I also only truly understood the battle mechanics in the second half (orbs and stuff), but once I did battle was so addicting.
I had to set the game on a custom easy mode to allow myself to figure out the battle mechanics but once I did it was easily the most fun gameplay of the trilogy
@eeveestrations I also feel like Xenoblade 2 is the 'Final Fantasy 8' of the Xeno series. Super divisive, you either love it or really hate it, but if you love 2 then you also think it's the best in the series 😀
The female character designs reflect the culture of the country this game was made in. I loved them, and i don't want japan to start censoring characters like america does.
100%. it's just sad to see xc3 clearly makes some compromises already. it has some nice looking ladies, but it's much much more restrained. i hope the developers look at the sales, rather than the twitter screeching.
Xenoblade 2 is a freakin underrated masterpiece it's the best of the trilogy imho. I love the world, the story, the characters and their design the most compared to other games in the series also i belive Xenoblade 2 has the best group of characters compared to Xenoblade 1 or Xenoblade 3. I always believe the haters are those who never play the game themselves, and they only jump on the hate bandwagon. The same thing happened to Metroid Other M and Metroid Prime Federation Force. Im glad you're hyped for Xenoblade X DE. That game is also superb. I'm so happy that all Xenoblade games are gonna be on Switch. Please make more Nintendo vids like this. Thank you.
Definitely will and I fully agree with you! Xc2 was by far the most fun I had of those games and I think the whimsy and fun cast that people criticize is that same thing that makes it so fun and endearing. as far as Nintendo videos go I do have some ideas haha
@@eeveestrations Yea as much as I loved 3, it did feel like they over corrected by removing almost all the zaniness from 2 which made me a little sad. I like the stories of all 3, but it feels like 2 more than the others had the right balance of seriousness and lightheartedness.
@ I agree, there’s nothing wrong with more mature games but given that a lot of the audience was expecting a game similar to 2 in vibes, it just felt way too different for me to get in to it. If it were very similar to 1 or 2 I would’ve gotten thru it, but it was just so different that it lost the charm of the world and music and cast. Story was the only thing I felt it did better tbh
I remember being immensely frustrated with the battle system at the beginning and almost stopped playing. Ended up putting around 250 hours into the game and enjoyed every single second of it. Fantastic game indeed 👍
As someone from Germany it's always like looking into some kind of alternative world whenever I hear that Xenoblade 2 is hated on a lot (but it seems like this is mostly in the US tbh). Because here Xenoblade 2 is by far the most popular title of the series and literally almost everyone on the biggest Nintendo and video gaming forums, and even Twitter, says that Xenoblade 2 is their favorite title in the series and that they just absolutely love it. It's always so weird to me to see that apparently this isn't the case in most other places around the world sadly :(
@eeveestrations That doesn't surprise me tbh lol xD Is it maybe because the US is more prudish I guess? Because here I've literally never seen anyone complain about the character designs 😅
@ unpopular ish opinion but I think there’s a virtue signaling aspect going on sometimes, that’s why you only really see it online (bc no one is actually going to act like that irl or else they come off super annoying)
Actually very balanced review and fair criticisms too. Good job. More people should think and review like this on this site. Dahlia's design was made by Risa Ebata, which was a guest artist who likes to draw suggestive stuff. The same with newt from Takeshi Nogami. Many other blades were made by guest artists. And the main characters were designed by a famous NSFW artist as well. This is what a lot of people don't seem to understand about the game, or how art design and tastes work in Japan. Monolith's approach to this was actually quite genius with inviting guest artists to design blades. We in the West approach stuff with a different mindset and bias according to our own culture (not saying you do, you approached it logically and with reason). Anyway, keep up the great work. Like you said Monolith bringing X to the Switch was something I wanted big time as well. I missed it on Wii U back in the day and am super excited.
Glad you enjoyed my style of reviewing haha! As I said, a few designs in the game weren’t up my alley at all, but I think it’s silly to use them as a reason to dismiss or slander the game. You can not be a fan of a certain aspect of a game and still have an overall great time with it!
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is my favorite Switch exclusive. It takes a while to get going, but once you fully unlock the battle system around the ~20 hour mark it just gets so addicting. Stacking orbs and cracking them for overkills is so much fun. And the weapons being characters I enjoyed more than I expected. Unlocking each tree and the music and all the mini-stories within the game - I loved it. I’m not bothered by people ~not~ loving it. But I do feel like at least some of the people who assume it’s bad are seriously missing out.
I loved doing overkills so much that i started putting the combat on an easier mode so I could do more orb stacking and overkills for no other reason than it was so stupidly fun 😭
The Xenoblade series has always been my favourite since I played the original on Wii, and imo they are all 9/10 min. I think the controversy surrounding XC2 is something that could be applied to so many other games that are also good (eg. Nier, Bayonetta, Persona) but people will like to highlight one negative about games so much to the point where they want that to represent the whole game. Personally, I’ve always thought that if you play a game yourself and don’t like, then fair enough, but not even trying it and calling it ass, just kinda makes me feel sorry for them and that they are missing out on something they would potentially enjoy a lot. Also who was your favourite rare blade?
It’s funny bc I rarely see Bayonetta get complaints, mostly I see ppl praising Bayo’s design which don’t get me wrong is a great design but lets be real it’s not the most family friendly haha. My fav rare blade is probably Kora! I just thought she was fun lol
Xenoblade 2 really isn't a "polarizing" game insofar that the vast majority of people who played the game actually love it. It's just a very vocal minority of who have been shitting on the game constantly since 2017 and not letting go, which is insane to me, all because they can't get over a handful of pervy jokes in a 100+ hours game. Fwiw, I made a video about these specific scenes some time ago and I will always defend those scenes, so here you go: th-cam.com/video/s34cH8cyW9U/w-d-xo.html Anyway, nice video, even though I think Xenoblade 2 shouldn't need a defense.
I agree, I wish xc2 didn’t need to be defended but there’s just so much nasty stuff about it out there that sadly it does feel like you gotta defend liking the game 😭
I genuinely could not even name most of the minor characters of 3 right now but 2?? I could name every location and most of the blades from memory, they’re just that memorable
I really love it, in spite of its flaws. The highs are so high (the soundtrack, the characters, the world building) but the lows are really low (horrible map design, weird gacha mechanic, uncomfortable dialogue). I swear I got lost so many times playing this game.. The polarisation is most evident in the gameplay. The tutorials are long-winded and badly explained. The gameplay is initially clunky and confusing. But once you get to grips with the combat yourself (by watching a TH-cam tutorial in my case 😭) it’s incredibly rewarding! Fusion combos are so satisfying and there’s so much depth and customisation. It’s the best in the series I think! Also idk if you’ll read this comment but I adoreeee your channel!! I relate to it a lot, I also played xenoblade 2 and even fire emblem 3 houses because of the pandemic. And now they’re some of my favourite games! Anyways keep doing what you’re doing ✨💫✨
Xc2 DE is gonna be incredible when they fix the localization of dialogue and the tutorials lol also thank you so much!!!!! Im still so new to this and it makes me so happy that you’re enjoying my dumb videos 🥹🥹
It's characters like Rex and Zeke that encouraged and inspired me to do things I never thought possible. It's the stories like those that are worth telling. People forget that art was never meant to be perfect
you’re so right, nothing is completely perfect and it doesn’t have to be! Xc2 has a lot of flaws and goofy parts but i almost feel like that makes the game more charming
I'd say the character designs are kind of a huge selling point for the game. At least for me. They fun, varied, expressive, and colorful. Its the type of thing you don't see as often nowadays outside of gacha games like Granblue Fantasy or Zenless Zone Zero. If I looked back at Xenoblade X before it, I'd honestly tell you very few characters visually stood out at all.
I do love how vivid and unique the designs on the whole are, it’s just that they feel a bit too over designed at times and obviously there’s a few that are a little too showy that it makes using the blades a bit uncomfortable (which I doubt is what the devs wanted)
I somehow missed the discourse prior to playing this myself (back in, like, 2021? 2022?), so I avoided the baggage. It's so great to hear your enthusiasm for XB2!
I wasn’t online when it dropped either but I still saw and do see a lot of nasty things being said about it that isn’t even legit criticism, it’s just people parroting what they hear others say and chucking buzzwords around for no apparent reason lol
Thank you for making this video, I’ll gladly link to this if I encounter any more people in person who make negative assumptions about me based on XC2 being my favourite in the series! In order, I played X then 1, 2, 3. Although 1 blew my mind by being the first game to truly shock me with its story, I found 2’s world, characters, and philosophical themes the most enjoyable. The big reveal of its connection to XC1 is also a very memorable story moment that might never be beaten for me.
I played this game when it was first released. I made it to the start of Chapter 3 before I burned out. Several months afterward, I fractured my foot and had nothing else to play. So I spent the majority of my free time playing it until my foot healed. I dedicated over 300 hours to Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and I don't regret it. Loved the whole trilogy ever since.
I felt the same way about Dahlia at first, but now that understanding their story and what their character represents, she became one of my favorite characters. She also based on Dolly Parton.
I won’t pretend to like the design, but I genuinely do like her character and her voice! She was so authentically sweet that it made me wish her design was more toned down so I’d use her haha
As someone who played X on the Wii U, I’m SO happy it’s gonna get the recognition it deserves with a DE on Switch! The fact that Monolith Soft got a game of that scale to function on the Wii U still feels crazy to me to this day!
I’m so excited to see the massiveness of that game, like I know that the story isn’t quite where the trilogy is at but just the sheer scale of the world makes me so so excited to sink my teeth in to it
@@eeveestrations Yea it’s a REALLY fun world to explore! Just a fair warning though, unless they change it for DE, you don’t unlock the Skell mechs until at least halfway through the game. Probably because they break exploration and combat in half, but still I wish they didn’t make you wait so long for something that’s heavily advertised.
I played Xenoblade 2 this year and it was definitely a worthwhile game to play! The story, themes and characters really stuck with me and I found myself thinking about it for ages afterwards (I still think about it!). Rex is definitely my favourite Xenoblade protagonist - some of his character arc struggles remind me of my own 15yo self, which I don't often find in game protagonists. I also had a lot of fun running around the world, fighting unique monsters (thanks, Zenobia), talking to all the npcs and really feeling immersed in the game! I definitely had some gripes (the UI is... bad, the combat took me ages to figure out even with my girlfriend trying to explain it, and some of the designs and a few scenes were... questionable) but there was so much to love, and once I got into the game I really enjoyed it! Xenoblade 1 was a smoother overall experience, but while the lows of Xenoblade 2 were lower, the highs were also higher.
The highs of 2 are so much higher than the other games, which I think is why the few low points feel fully excusable. You trade a few iffy scenes for twenty hours of incredible narrative and good cast interactions
Awesome video! I felt similarly after beating XCDE, that I'd play X and skip 2 bc I heard all the negativity. But I got it for my bday in 2021 and fell in love with it. I actually spoiled myself with "who the architect is" just to see who it was bc I thought I'd never end up playing it. But when I saw their identity I immediately got the game 😂 It's super emotional and impactful game to me and has my favorite OST of all time too. Even though 3 is my favorite 2 always has a special place in my heart.
I tried the game out and mostly liked it but not enough to finish it. My favorite moment of the game is when Rex and the gang are seperated from Pyra and they are sent on the fetch quest to retrieve the ultimate sword, only to find the sword is useless. Everybodys morale is destroyed except for Rex. He knows he has everything he needs. Even without this legendary weapon he can save Pyra. That was a well written hero moment that stuck with me. Plus i love playing as Pyra and Mythra in smash bros.
I played the first Xenoblade game and I absolutely loved it. I'll be real and I just looked up all of the cutscenes and then watched the chugaconroy playthrough of Xenoblade 2 and I'm going to start Xenoblade 3 at some point pretty soon, especially if whatever Nintendo's cooking for a new console is a vast upgrade
I played XC Wii a little when I was younger, and couldn't get past Tephra Cave 😂 (We hate that spider in this house) so XC2 was my first real Xenoblade game. I got my Switch Week 2 2017, so as all Switch owners in 2017 I had no games. When I saw the Direct for Xenoblade 2 (September I think?) I was hooked. I asked for one thing that Christmas, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Special Edition. After I opened all of my other gifts, my mum pulled out a potato box wrapped up. Inside was XC2 and I was FREAKING OUT. I spent the next 3 days completely invested in the game, and I just loved everything about it. I remember watching Etika (RIP) pull KOS-MOS, and then I pulled her right after. I then went on to 100% the game, and XC2 and the Xeno franchise are my favorite games of all time. XC2 gave me so many good memories, and I can't wait to play X again on Switch!!
It is very good. The Xenoblade series is my favorite. They are all unique, from characters to music to world etc. It's incredible to me what they have done. I'm looking forward to what's next. I got my wife into Xenoblade 3 just from her watching it with me and now she plays!
I'll still never forget the moment I realized I almost missed peak. I dropped the game somewhere around the pickpocket part, then started watching a playthrough, and when they got to the scene of Rex being thrown off by Jin's words in Temperantia, I felt the need to stop watching and finish the game myself. I then did an entire NG+ run (100%) before even touching Torna, which I've now played the DLC twice, and the main game thrice. 2 is easily my favorite game in the series, with 3's DLC as a close 2nd, which may or may not be supported by a bias towards the funny "gonna lie down for a bit" man. I hope when they get around to 2's Definitive Edition that it'll just be QoL stuff, and not any potential overcorrecting. Oh, and of course the epilogue containing all the answers being kept secret from interviews. - That is quite the soundtrack name to drop when trying to avoid spoilers by the way. X'D
listen I figure most of the people watching will either have already played, hate it and have no interest in playing, or not even be paying attention enough to pick up on it haha, I wanted to include the name for those who don’t plan to play but want to hear the track I was referring to
@@eeveestrations Fair enough, it was just funny. It especially stood out to me 'cause I have a friend playing through the series, and I was nervous that a Blade Chart, DLC quest, or item location info might drop the name of the final area, which has the most dead give away name. Luckily, most locations are censored until you're in the chapter that contains them, which you're already in that place once the chapter starts. The only thing that wouldn't have been censored were item locations, but there's no unique drops there.
Each Xenoblade game is an experience. I never really followed or understood the hate for XC2, but I do remember thinking a bunch of the complaints I heard about it seemed to be from people who didn't actually play it themselves, like you talk about here. The entire series has grown to become something quite special (the culmination of Future Redeemed hits different if you're familiar with every game). Can't wait for XCX Definitive Edition!
No problem with complaining about things you didn’t like in a game you personally played, but spreading hate for a game that you haven’t played based on shallow assumptions is just so dumb. There’s some very fair things to dislike about xc2 but maybe play it first at least a bit if you wanna criticize
@@eeveestrations It'd be cool if the game had a toggle for sfw outfits on all the characters like bayonetta 3. Lewd designs aren't for everyone, for sure. >w> the game was made for people like me. Newt is my favorite blade.
I remember playing 2 shortly after its release and just couldn’t understand why it was so hated at the time since I adored the game to bits. Obviously over time its flaws have become more apparent but I still do think it is a worth addition to the Xeno franchise. Please just give the game a chance people.
I’m so glad I was not on twitter yet when I played, I think I would’ve been so scared to say I liked it lmao the things people say about that games fans smh
I'm not the biggest fan of the game myself, but the plot twist of the linking to Xenoblade AND Xenosaga by bringing in the Zohar I will always give it credit for as being the best twist I've ever seen in anything
Kind of sad cuz people who played XC2 first is going to be like "uhmmm did i missed something?" Thats why, regardless of what game is the favourite from all xc series, i STRONGLY suggest everyone to start with XC1. I used to say to people, yeah you can skip XC1 if you dont have Nintendo WII, but now ? BIG NOOO
@@rovell7221 yeah I wouldn’t recommend playing them out of order either unless you’re dead set on only playing one specific game. Stuff doesn’t hit as hard if you don’t
@@rovell7221 I don't disagree, but at the same time the games do mostly work being stand alone, so if someone was really interested in 2 or 3, I wouldn't necessarily dissuade them but if they wanted just general recommendations, then yeah, xenoblade 1 all the way
I think 2 is still my favorite out of the bunch it was the first one I played and what sold me on them. I didn't even buy it because I thought it was that interesting I just didn't have something to play at the time, but I fell in love with it. I like the other ones too but none of them quite lived up to 2 as much.
I personally like Pyra’s design. She is iconic and even got her a spot in Smash bros. I never really got the combat system though so I fell off. I haven’t played 1 and 3 yet because I want to finish 2 which was the first that came out on Switch but I haven’t played in years now so I almost have to restart which I don’t want to when I have other games to play.
If you ever decide you have the time to get back into them (which if you don’t I totally get it, I’ve been struggling to find time to finish TOTK and FE three hopes) I’d personally play them in chronological order! Not sure how much the other titles will be your cup of tea, but if you want to give it another shot, I’d personally start with 1
really glad you enjoyed this game! :) Xenoblade is one of my favourite series of all time. did u manage to playthrough the DLC Torna the Golden Country? it's so emotional and makes Xenoblade 2's story so much better. if i were to compare it to anything, it feels alot like Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith. you know what's going to happen but it's still so impactful when stuff actually happens!
Yes I did! The narrative was so good and I loved switching thru blades so you could have Mythra as your active character. I liked base xc2 a little more but Torna’s story is top notch and worlds better than FC
Great Video! I am always happy to see the Xenoblade games getting some love! (Especially Xenoblade 2) I am curious though, have you played Torna the Golden Country? Because unless I missed it you didn't mention it at all. For me the expansion fixed my biggest gripes with the base game, being the gacha and the oversexualised designs, while also elevating the combat even further and delivering an incredible story on top of that. I feel like it would be a shame if you missed out on that. (Even if you liked the gacha system)
I did play it, don’t worry! The story and voice acting were so much better, but there were a few things like the campsite stuff that I didn’t like as much as the base game, and I did kinda miss the farming for cores lol. Just didn’t want to touch on it since Torna feels like its own separate thing to me!
Coincidentally, I just finished a replay of Xenoblade Chronicles 1 today. Xenoblade 3 is far and away my favorite in the series, and for me personally, beating out 1 & 2 on all fronts by a landslide. (and I mean ALL fronts: Characters, Narrative, World, Progression, Combat, Exploration, Quests, Cutscenes, etc. Even for the hotly contested topics such as the Music, I still think XC3 wins it out for me.) Despite this though, I still recognize that all three titles are absolutely fantastic. Which surprisingly, isn't as common an opinion as you'd think in this community. (the real unpopular part of my opinion is that I think XC1 and XC2 are equal in greatness.) Xenoblade 2 is great! You don't see too much hate on it these days. (in fact, I'd say it's getting maybe a little too much praise lately, quantitatively speaking, of course.) But while it still has issues, it's concerning troughs and cons are massively outweighed by it's exceedingly high peaks and pros. XC3 is still better though. I'm sorry but if you love Jin so much why do you hate Noah and N they are literally all the same character.
I couldn’t finish xc3 but one day when I’ve forgotten most of it I should really give it a second shot. Maybe x will inspire me to try getting in to it again haha
When I saw the trailer for XB3, it made me want to try the game, so I started to play XB1 first because people said characters from the first 2 games is in the 3rd. I finished xb1 and started 2, before starting 2 I don't really feel like playing the came because some people said it's a bad game, and I personally hated Rex design (don't like kid character). But I forced myself to play and finished it and even after finishing xb3. It turned out xb2 is the one I like the most out of all 3 games due to the story and characters.
I do wish Rex was aged up a bit, given the age of the rest of the cast I feel that a slightly older protag with the relatively same personality would’ve been nice. Still didn’t stop me from loving the game tho, and he did start to grow on me by the end!
My first Xenoblade was X on the Wii U. I enjoyed it a good bit but had been hoping for a bit more story cause I like it a lot in my games. Then in 2017 with the Switch coming out they show off Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and I was blown away and so excited. Quickly I saw some mixed feelings about it though and then I saw context about how the first game was designed and looked and how people liked it cause it had a more western feel despite being from Japan, but that was done because they couldn't do what they really wanted, which was a more anime look which they had more ability to do this time around and when they made definitive edition. Regardless I was excited cause I liked the look and style of the game and I put it at the top of my list for Christmas that year. I was surprised with the special edition, just as I was with X's special edition 2 years prior! I began the journey which is a unique one for me. I started this game in December of 2017 when I was 22 and didn't finish it till... Valentine's of this year, 2024, (lol it's perfect because of how much I love it.) Which made me 28 at the time of completing it. And I think it made it all the more interesting an experience. When I started it I was in college, busy studying and kept having to put it down. Eventually over the course of time I made it near the end but had heard that the first game ties in deeply with the ending of 2 and I heard it was at the tail end so, knowing this, I stopped at the beginning of chapter 8 where I had gotten to. Definitive Edition of Xenoblade 1 was coming out so I decided to go back and beat that all the way through which was pushed because of demands in my life and career. But then I eventually went back to beat 2 and with the full context of 1, which I was extremely happy to have done. As I finished it, I knew it had just become my favorite game and it resonated more because of the personal things I had gone through in the time I started and finished it along with how much it had emotionally resonated with me in how much I felt seen and heard in the character of Rex and how he would do anything for his friends and the way he deeply cares and supports Pyra/Mythra which is what I really want to do for my significant other. I also have helped people in Pyra/Mythras position in my own life a few times. It was also really cool to have grown on my own and even been like him, all young and optimistic and then reaching a low point such as he does by certain points in the story. People who bash Rex have not seen his full journey, either that or didn't pay attention. I also love the lessons, especially with some stuff mentioned by the cast to Rex in the end and how they impacted and stayed with me and I believe make me a better person. I love this cast so much, they feel like my family after everything. The game is all around, despite the fantastical elements, such a grounded and human story. This game is a beautiful world with such a happy feel and lovely, amazing characters but as you continue it gets a growing undertone of tragedy and pain and then culminates at the end when you learn the truth of everything. This is helped that much more by Torna, but thats not the main thing being discussed and yes that too has its flaws. This game is silly at times, yes, but I believe it was done with intent and needed to help balance the heavy themes and subject matter especially later in the game. I understand why some things bother people, be it designs, or certain mechanics, or the acting being off at points, however when you learn the history of it, it makes more sense and makes you appreciate what they were able to do and achieve that much more. This game was made in 2 years with a team of only 40 people, the voice lines were mostly if not pretty much all first takes due to time constraints, and the designs were asked of a bunch of different artists to contribute and to get help, which explains the varied feel to the characters, I however loved this about the game. There's so much that can be said about it in this context and yet knowing that, the way a bunch of lines were delivered, I'm talking THAT scene, and the way they were able to make such a large, beautiful, fulfilling world with TONS of content is crazy. I am happy as time has gone on more people have been coming out to talk about this game including those who were skeptical or gave it another try and why it's great and loved by those who got through and gave it a real chance. To those that I try to convince to try it for the first time or to try and pick it up again I tell them it's a flawed masterpiece that I could complain about for hours and gush about for days. I still get or hear hate such as when I cosplayed Rex from 3 and people behind me saw the Swords and immediately said 1 or 3 was good but ew 2. Despite that I hold onto my convictions that this is an amazing experience with tropes sure but also as you stated will shock and surprise even in the villains in thinking they are simple or one-dimensional. Thank you Monolith Soft for this game and the impact it had on me and others and the series and their games as a whole. Currently I'm finally making my way to catch up and beat Xenoblade 3. I am on Chapter 4 and have loved it quite a lot but even so I don't think it will personally be able to overtake my love of 2. Although I do love the characters and I do see a lot of myself in Noah as well. I suppose I'll see what happens. Even if it's not my favorite, it will be my second favorite I think but in this series it's really all by slim margins by which one is seen as better and as I said it's a personal emotional resonance (haha Core crystals, am I right?) that ultimately means so much to me with 2. Thanks for reading my novel if you made it to the end and hope it opens someone's eyes in potentially trying this game either for the first time or giving it another go!
Oh and I definitely am not ashamed to say I ugly cried for like 45 minutes at the ending and at some other points. If I want a good cry I just listen to certain songs and it brings the feels right back. amazing soundtrack for sure!
I felt so bad for crying a bit at the end but that’s how you know they made a great game, when you actually care about what happens to the cast at the end and you’re sad for the game to be over
@@eeveestrations Absolutely. I am an empath and tend to cry more then the average person I'm sure but the ending sequence is just an experience like no other. The ending of Torna as well, OH MAN that's something else. Loved your video!
@@eeveestrations Absolutely yes!! It's probably my favorite game OST. To the point that I even did a bass cover of Mor Ardain Roaming the Wastes on my YT channel. Hopefully I'll do more of them when I find the time.
@ I highly appreciate and agree with your statement! I something even would play a Xenoblade Chronicle game in the handheld mode with the Nintendo switch just to be able to experience the music because I have all of them because it was four games total for the series.
The artstyle between XC1 for the Wii and XC2 threw people for a loop. Immediately, there were online comments saying that the game was childish. I guess it was the Windwaker effect. But yah, this game is amazing. There is so much content and so many things to see. Its incredible and so unique even within the trilogy. I don't think there'll be another game like it.
I had similar reservations about playing XC2, but I'm now about 35 hours in and having a good time. Silly anime tropes aside, this is a fantastic game. Fun gameplay, good characters, great story.
Honestly i think every title in the xenoblade series is so close to being perfect, they all just have their own little flaws that add up or certain things they just did so, so wrong, its just fixing some minor things and the games would be some of the greatest. My personal favourite was 3 and i really felt it there.
It is very, very hard for me to pick my favorite Xenoblade game, but Xenoblade Chronicles X might be my favorite. 1 has my favorite characters, music, story and setting, 2 has my favorite battle gameplay of the series and the best relationships between the cast, but man, X is so important of a video game to me. 2 might have my favorite battle mechanjcs and 1 my favorite setting, but the exploration gameplay and world of Mira are so amazing and fun, making a completely original character as your MC and developing their personality over the course of the game, it's such an amazing and fun time. Mira IS my home away from home, I care about this silly planet so much.
@eeveestrations The game came out when I was 16, but I did not understand a single thing about the gameplay at *all*...yet I still almost 100%ed it. The very final sidequest involved defeating an enemy I couldn't make a dent in without knowing the intricacies of the combat, and this time I'm gonna beat it once and for all. Given the rest of the series is about the main plot and the main characters and their arcs, I feel as if I need to warn new players: This game is *entirely* about the side content and the exploration of the world itself. Being a completionist who explores everything is how you fall in love with the characters and the game, so consider the main story quests as nothing more than some particularly important sidequests that exist to unlock more sidequests. ... And be warned of the name Tatsu.
Every game has haters. Even the "universally beloved" ones. My favorite game is Persona 4, which has a lot of haters, for both good and stupid reasons. Unfortunately social media aggregates and amplifies hate for engagement, so you see it everywhere.
My favorite part of the game is how deep the villains are. Jin, Malos and Amalthus are fantastic. Amalthus in particular is underrated. His storyline was more subtle than say Jin, but you can see how he reached his "answer."
@eeveestrations Least redeemable but very fleshed out. They show he tried to make things better but the guy he saved turned around and killed a family. His mother was murdered. And then when he goes to ask the architect all he finds is basically weapons of mass destruction. It makes sense why he arrived at his conclusion
@@jameskozy7254I never thought about it in this way, Amalthus hoping to find solution on the Architet but finding out that all there was are weapons of mass destruction is another reason to think "Ok, this world is worthless. If even the Architect doesn't have hope on it so why would I?"
Yes!! Seeing Morytha, the World Tree and Elysium for the first time and having it explained what it was was so good, I was still hooked towards the end game! The bad rep the game gets is unjust but understandable considering it's the characters, awful gaming journalism, memes, ... (ie front cover / first impression stuff) we first see about the game. You said it yourself it put you off too unfortunately. But I do agree sending hate to a community (who just loves games too) based on first impressions is a low blow and are only doing it for hate. They like to over-blow the game's flaws too but you've done well to balance it and explained that those flaws aren't *that* bad. It just shows that there are people who base their opinions on reactive material with instance emotional responses rather than... actually playing the game as you said (or at least follow someone who played the game) I think gaming journalism and some game reviews did this game dirty too. So I'm glad content creators, like yourself, who actually played the game are putting more just and detailed content about this game Thanks for the vid!
yeah gaming journalism did this game so dirty, but I really feel like the rep it got in general was just so unwarranted. Like nothing wrong with having strong opinions about a game you played, lord knows I hated Luigi’s mansion, but I feel like the most vocal critics are just people who never played it themselves. You can watch a video and decide it’s probably not for you and that’s fine, but watching a video and deciding to start spewing hate about it based on said video is so dumb. Like at least give it a shot first and find the things to hate on yourself. People really just parrot the criticism they hear online instead of saying nothing or trying it themselves.
@ Zeke is very loved among fans. Pandoria isn’t but, they should had given her more protagonism. She kinda fell into the same treatment than Dromarch, just saying a few lines here and there but were very forgettable characters cuz they didn’t receive the spotlight
I always say that if I had to pick my No 1 favourite game in the series it would be Xeno 2 along with still one of the greatest story expansions ever made for any game in Torna The Golden Country. I love the characters various unique designs, overall story and simply incredible music :-)
Completely agree. I also feel many at the time where kinda thrown off by the more anime leaning style compared to original Wii version and Eng voice direction was all over the place at the start of Xeno 2, but did improve greatly later on in the game. Xeno X, which is getting an upcoming definitive edition is also fantastic, but again also divided fans at the time being less story/character driven and more focused on exploration :-)
@ interesting cause the reception for xcx de has been so overwhelming positive! Honestly id say people are just as excited for this as they were 3, which says a lot given that this game is already out haha
@@eeveestrations Many having played it originally on Wii U have grown to love it over time and it is the precursor to Zelda BOTW massive open-world style. Fans at the time were expecting a heavy story driven follow up, but that wasn't the case. It still has great story content, but most of the juicy hype like moment stuff is locked in side-quests that can easily be missed on a playthrough, and now we should have proper end game story content added that was shown at end of the trailer :-)
In a horrible but kind of funny bit of irony, the most vocal and aggressive complaining I ever saw about the sexualization in this game came from a registered SO On a lighter note, my favorite song in the game: The Tomorrow With You, from the "I love this world because you're in it" scene (a track so good it was name-dropped in Future Redeemed!)
Not a unique case either, it's happened multiple times where a hater was either registered or caught in something illegal And when they haven't done something illegal they're usually fans of a certain kind of content
@@TommySkywalker11 Reminds me also of instances of anti-homosexual lawmakers exposed for illicit relationships with same-sex minors. It's a truly terrifying level of projection.
Xenoblade chronicles 2 is really fun and defenetly my favorite Xenoblade game (even though I've still haven't finished it) but I'll defend every aspect of it
It’s definitely got some flaws but i honestly feel like it’s more fun for it. Like xc3 tried to over correct imo and it ended up with way less life and just not being an enjoyable to play
I love this game. Beat it 5 years ago and had so much fun with it. Then beat it again like 3-4 years later. This video makes me want to play it again 😅
I've probably recounted this story a thousand times online, but I went into XC2 completely one hundred percent blind. I played botw in 2017, and one of botw's dlc outfits was Rex's. I thought the outfit was really cool (which is why people's hate for it vexes me to this day). So that Christmas when making my list, I put two Switch games on it, seeing as in 2017 the Switch's library was pretty tiny. I put cave story on the list first because it reminded me of Undertale. But then I put Xc2 on the list, without looking at a single screenshot or trailer or even website description. I put Xc2 on my list just on the strength of my like of Rex's Outfit in botw, but not expecting to play much of it. I started it that Christmas morning and one day a couple years later, I noticed my Xc2 save final had over 250 hours in it, and I realized Xc2 was my favourite game of all time., and it has remained such to this day. I even played Xc1;De when that came out, and while I enjoy it now, and have played it all the way through many, many times, it has just never lived up to Xc2 for me. I mean Xc2 treats its female cast with way more respect than Xc1's does. Sharla has no character what so ever outside of worrying about all the men in her life and Fioroa might as well be a plot maguffin for all the character they give her. Melia's the only female character in Xc1 to get any real development and they needed a side story made ten years later to even pay any of it off. And So much of my frustration with the cultural backlash to Xc2, as has been as stated in this video, is that so much of its hate come from people who didn't even play it, and from people who nitpick and bash every little aspect of it. I could make several page lists of every flaw Xc2 has, but I could do that about just about every game. It has never made sense to me, the way people treat Xc2's Anime tropes as some kind of horrible mark against it, when the vast majority of hugely popular games like Persona 5, Nier Automata, Bayonetta, even Fire Emblem all engage in the same if not more levels of anime tropes. I don't know know when so much of the gaming space decided anime was beneath them. I'm all for calling out Overly sexualized female character designs in video games, and I hate using the phrase "virtue signalling" because its almost only used by bad faith actors, but it really seems to me that the over whelming backlash Xc2's female designs get is from people virtue signalling, because XC2 is popular to hate in some circles on online. I have gone on length to criticize Xc2's female character designs and how Pyra and Mythra are not serviced as characters by showing so much skin, but I wouldn't say they're any worse than 2B, Cammy White or Tifa Lockhart. And Xc2 has Mythra's smash design as an optional cosmetic and not only does she look better covered up, but it really proves xc2's female casts are great independent of how they look. It's always just struck me as hypocritical the way people call out over sexualized female character designs and how they devalue female character writing, and then turn around and completely ignore Pyra and Mythra's excellent character writing just because they wear skimpy outfits. At a certain point it stops being genuine critique of over sexualization and starts becoming policing woman's bodies. I think we should be able to have conversations about over sexualization without becoming puritans. Sorry for the rant. And sorry you didn't like Xc3. Xc2 is still my favoite but I personally loved Xc3 and think its better than Xc2 in many ways. But I really appreciate this video and the points made in it. I really wish more people were able to appreciate the game, while being fair and critical, and able to call out all the bad faith hate it gets.
lots of really good points made here but specifically the stuff about Mythra is so true. A character design doesn’t devalue their writing. What matters most to me is how the character is written and writing off Mythra as fanservice bc of her design irks me so much because it ignores all of her characterization. Like she’s not just there to be gawked at, she’s an amazing character and istg sometimes the virtue signaling objectifies them more than what they’re criticizing in the first place
The first time I played the game, I was distracted by the things that bothered me about the game, but it ended up being the game I clocked in the most hours during one playthrough (Until Persona 5 Royal). Then, I played it again because I remembered the feeling the game left me with. During my second playthrough, it solidified itself as one of my top games since I could ignore the things that bothered me. Xenoblade 2 is incredible, and even though people give it shit I will always love that game.
I love this game!! I went into the game not knowing about the hate and im so glad i did. I loved everything about it and was surprised how much i got into the combat. Also the blade skill tree system is such a treat, i love that it incentivizes doing a bunch of random crap, cause thats what an adventure is all about LOL And yes Xenoblade X is awesome, i really loved my time with it and im excited for everyone else to get their time with it.
I was not expecting to get in to the combat at all based on the fact that I didn’t totally love or hate xc1’s combat, but 2’s combat was surprisingly addicting haha
@@eeveestrations Yeah! I think what made it so fun for me was all the strategic prepping you could do for combat to optimize it, it made it really satisfying when I'd do a good job and the enemy I was struggling with would just melt away lol. Xenoblade 1 for me just didn't have much of that strategy and so the combat got a lot more stale very quickly (I played 1 after 2 also).
@ that’s a really good point, I think switching out blades and having dozens of blades to choose from really increases the strategy aspect of the game in a way that xc1 really doesn’t allow. Still think the 1 combat is solid but 2 just feels so much more interesting to me!
Oh I played it. I wish I never got convinced to buy it, I don’t even like thinking about it. But if you like it then that’s fine. Most of these haters have better things to do than hate on it.
i do like Xenoblade 2 but i can see why it has the stigma it does. ( Glad its now on a good track with Xc3 ) While Xc1 certainly took from the anime tropes playbook, Xc2 dives headfirst into the anime bin. Xc1 had more grounded characters in practical yet stylish clothing, with an atempt at realism alongside the fantastical world, Then in Xc2 we go full anime with big eyes(+big pairs of other things), exagirated attire & tropes out the wazoo (not bad, but different)
I actually love the character designs of 2 more than 1 on average but I can see why it doesn’t appeal to everyone. The 1 designs are nice too tho! The vivid colors of 2 are just so pretty
The lack of an ending for Xenoblade X is being resolved. Just watching the trailer already tells us they're going to give the game a real ending because there are scenes in there that weren't in the original game that take place after its final cutscene.
yeah that was my main concern for the port, having heard a lot about the dreadful cliffhanger at the end, but the fact that it’s clearly being resolved and Monolithsoft explicitly stated that there was new story content and features has me really excited that they’ll polish X even more. So so excited
Three houses VAs deserved to be nominated for more awards and it kills me that bc it’s a Nintendo title, they got passed up in favor of Xbox/Playstation exclusives VAs
@@eeveestrations Interesting, I hadn’t considered that as a possible reason for it getting passed up… all the more reason why I think people should ignore awards shows, to diminish their relevance in the industry. Awards presuppose that some people’s opinions and preferences are somehow more valid or relevant than others, when they’re not
Back on the Wii, Xenoblade 1 became my favorite game of all time. Then when X came out on WiiU, I... wasn't the biggest fan... Still a great game, but not my cup of tea. Then when I saw the trailer for 2 I was worried because I still felt a mild burn from X. However that all went away VERY quickly and Xenoblade 2 is now my favorite game of all time!
Saying it has a lot of heart is a really good way to describe the game. Not perfect, but it has so much soul and it’s so lovable. Also thank you, so glad you enjoyed the video!!!
I feel like XBC2 has way more interesting combat and story than XBC1. XBC1 I could only enjoy while playing sniper... When it comes to the ending, then the "escape sequence" (to avoid spoilers) had me bawling out... but then actual ending felt kinda like a cheap copout (even though I like the result ;) ). Music is awesome, and the Golden Country's music (more jazz) AND combat is way better :D Monolith soft are such masters at creating vast locations, that are using scale to a great effect (people, plz play Xenoblade X). Nice video! :)
2’s ending ending still hit kinda hard tho if you assume that they legit lost their memories, that’s the ending I prefer anyway vs the they remember everything theory bc it actually gives the sacrifice some weight. It hurt lol
@eeveestrations oh yeah, it was pretty ambiguous about the state of memories. Thanks for pointing that out. Let me also thank you for having such a calm vibe with this video. It feels like a breath of fresh air with all the polarizing and "loud" clickbaits out there 😁
@tempeczek Thank you, I’m really happy you appreciate that! Honestly sometimes I worry my style of video isn’t interesting enough to keep attention spans lol so I’m really glad that you like that about my style of video. I also really hate watching over the top video essays but sometimes it feels like that’s what you gotta make to have successful videos 😭 but thank you for enjoying it! Makes me feel not boring haha
which is the best Xenoblade game and why is it this one
My first Xenoblade game and I have pumped a concerning amount of hours into this game specifically
@RevaliRavioli I put over 180 in to this which is more than botw or totk for me it’s just so good 😭 also that’s a freaking amazing username you have lol
Nah I will say objectively 3 is definitely best, but 2 definitely has the best story
@Cezzmart67 I’d agree that it’s probably the most polished but I couldn’t even finish it, just seemed to lack the charm the others had in my eyes 😭
@@eeveestrations I'm so disappointed in you >:(
I played Xenoblade 2 when it released and spent around 500 hours with it.
Oh that’s so wholesome!! So cool that she liked it!!!
Aw that is so sweet omg 🥹🥹
They really put a lot of emphasis on the world and the world building this time and it pays off soooo well when you get to Morytha and the world tree
Yeah I agree! A super exhilarating start DOES hype people up, but the mellow beginning of XB2 felt super special to me. Like Rex was telling a story to a friend
The story is one of the few that are worthy of actually being called EPIC
@ 100% agree! It’s such a good narrative!
I’m so mad I played post patch I missed out on so much 😭
@@eeveestrations I’m sure there are plenty of videos out there that show what it was like.
@@xabizuazo6710 I remember how shocked I was when I saw his FR design bc I don’t think anyone would’ve ever expected Chad Rex
It’s so fun and I wish people would either give it a chance or just shut up about it
That is not true, I'm in my 30s and I absolutely adore the anime aesthetic of the game. There is just a loud minority that hates anime tropes.
Your affinity to this game singlehandedly makes me wanna play through the series
you should it’s pretty good and you’ll definitely get your moneys worth out of it
It took me playing the entire game and the entirety of Torna to realize that this probably has the best story in the entire series. It's astounding, joyous, heart-wrenching, soul shattering, and phenomenally fulfilling,
I'm so glad I played it...but I'm sad that many people will never get far enough to appreciate it, and even worse that I can't blame them.
I loved it too but I’m so glad someone else sees the wannabe Sora vibes in Rex’s design lol
Xenoblade 2 still has my favorite villains in the series. Wouldn't mind seeming them again sometime in a spinoff or something.
it’s a long shot but I’m holding on to hope that maybe the guy shown in the end of the x trailer is Malos/Logos cause it sounds an awful lot like him.
Glad you enjoyed it!!! And my poor first attempts at fanart lol
Can we just all agree that the artwork in xenoblade 2 is just beautiful
The art is so good in game models, environments, and actual artwork are just amazing
@ yeah might be true 1 is really good but 2 is the xeno goat haha
@Rizky-Gumilar literally so hyped for xcx I spent the whole last five minutes or so just yapping about how excited I am 😭😭
It's always so weird to me to see that apparently this isn't the case in most other places around the world sadly :(
Oh it 100% is a predominantly US thing, this is like a peak America thing to complain about right here lol
My favourite game of all time, we love to see people online who have actually played it 🔥
yesss we need more people who have actually played this game before opening their mouths to whine about it 🫡
Actually very balanced review and fair criticisms too.
Fwiw, I made a video about these specific scenes some time ago and I will always defend those scenes, so here you go: th-cam.com/video/s34cH8cyW9U/w-d-xo.html
Anyway, nice video, even though I think Xenoblade 2 shouldn't need a defense.
I agree, I wish xc2 didn’t need to be defended but there’s just so much nasty stuff about it out there that sadly it does feel like you gotta defend liking the game 😭
@eeveestrations As someone who loves Xenoblade 2, I really appreciate it 👍❤️
Beautiful story, the music is AMAZING, and the characters are unforgettable.
Incredible game.
I genuinely could not even name most of the minor characters of 3 right now but 2?? I could name every location and most of the blades from memory, they’re just that memorable
I call it "Don't judge the cover of it books".
Just play and enjoy what's the game company did
I really love it, in spite of its flaws.
Xc2 DE is gonna be incredible when they fix the localization of dialogue and the tutorials lol
also thank you so much!!!!!
The big reveal of its connection to XC1 is also a very memorable story moment that might never be beaten for me.
yes, the link to xc1 is so good!!! Really caught me off guard even tho I knew there was a late game link!
@@eeveestrations It was especially exciting as someone who didn't know there was any link, but I'm glad you enjoyed that despite knowing!
Xenoblade 2 is a masterpiece and I'm sure it'll be regarded as such in the coming decades.
I hope so! It deserves to be viewed in a better light!
I just started replaying, I'm at chapter 4 right now. This game got me into the Xenoblade games in the first place.
This is maybe my favorite cast in all of the games
It’s 100% my favorite xc cast, they just have such good chemistry with each other!
Xenoblade 2 will ALWAYS be my favorite of the 3. I couldnt care less about "silly moments" or "oVeRsExUaLiZeD bUnNy GiRl".
I’m so glad I went in fully blind, it was so worth it haha
I tried the game out and mostly liked it but not enough to finish it. My favorite moment of the game is when Rex and the gang are seperated from Pyra and they are sent on the fetch quest to retrieve the ultimate sword, only to find the sword is useless. Everybodys morale is destroyed except for Rex. He knows he has everything he needs. Even without this legendary weapon he can save Pyra. That was a well written hero moment that stuck with me. Plus i love playing as Pyra and Mythra in smash bros.
The sword being useless was such a good plot twist, I completely forgot about that one but it was really well done and surprising
Because let's be real here. The only thing preventing Xenoblade threes perfection is better graphics
Have fun with xc3! It wasn’t my personal cup of tea but I hope you enjoy it!!
XC2 gave me so many good memories, and I can't wait to play X again on Switch!!
dang I ended up with a digital code bc the year I asked for it, the physical edition was super hard to find 😭 must’ve been such a cool experience tho!
XB2 is fire. I'm nearly finished with it. The environments are insane.
Xc3’s environments being so ugly after 2’s were incredible will never not make me sad 😭
@@eeveestrations Oh no! I haven't gotten there yet!
@@reiperx1064 maybe you’ll like it! Just not my cup of tea haha
Oh shoot, it's the lady from the "unsuspecting gamer" video.
darn right it is
It is very good. The Xenoblade series is my favorite. They are all unique, from characters to music to world etc. It's incredible to me what they have done. I'm looking forward to what's next. I got my wife into Xenoblade 3 just from her watching it with me and now she plays!
I’m so excited to play x but also see what Monolithsoft is cooking up for switch 2! I didn’t adore 3 but I’m excited to see what they might try next!
@eeveestrations Yes! Monolith soft definitely be cooking!

That is quite the soundtrack name to drop when trying to avoid spoilers by the way. X'D
listen I figure most of the people watching will either have already played, hate it and have no interest in playing, or not even be paying attention enough to pick up on it haha, I wanted to include the name for those who don’t plan to play but want to hear the track I was referring to
@@eeveestrations Fair enough, it was just funny.
Love this game and 100%ed it. Ursula's quest took me 20 hours tho😭
dude I gave up on Ursula’s quest that just wasn’t worth the pain 😭😭
I'm glad I got her early and could progress little by little.
I can't imagine how painfully slow it would be to do it in one go if you get her late.
@ I did get her early, I just had no idea how bad that quest was and waited to do it 😭
Each Xenoblade game is an experience.
Dahlia and Newt are goated 🤣😭🙏
the characters are great but the designs are a bit out of hand sadly 😭 which kills me bc I loved Dahlia’s accent
80% of the game fans actually love it. The haters are less than the fans
There will always been haters.
I'm not the biggest fan of the game myself, but the plot twist of the linking to Xenoblade AND Xenosaga by bringing in the Zohar I will always give it credit for as being the best twist I've ever seen in anything
The Klaus scene was so gooooood 😭😭
@@eeveestrations one of those glorious moments where it pays off SO WELL to be a fan of the previous games
Kind of sad cuz people who played XC2 first is going to be like "uhmmm did i missed something?"
Thats why, regardless of what game is the favourite from all xc series, i STRONGLY suggest everyone to start with XC1.
@@rovell7221 I don't disagree, but at the same time the games do mostly work being stand alone, so if someone was really interested in 2 or 3, I wouldn't necessarily dissuade them
but if they wanted just general recommendations, then yeah, xenoblade 1 all the way
I think 2 is still my favorite out of the bunch it was the first one I played and what sold me on them. I didn't even buy it because I thought it was that interesting I just didn't have something to play at the time, but I fell in love with it. I like the other ones too but none of them quite lived up to 2 as much.
yeah I picked up 2 bc I’d already ran three houses like seven times lol and I was so surprised to actually love it!
Xenoblade is one of my favourite series of all time.
did u manage to playthrough the DLC Torna the Golden Country? it's so emotional and makes Xenoblade 2's story so much better. if i were to compare it to anything, it feels alot like Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith. you know what's going to happen but it's still so impactful when stuff actually happens!
Yes I did! The narrative was so good and I loved switching thru blades so you could have Mythra as your active character. I liked base xc2 a little more but Torna’s story is top notch and worlds better than FC
Great Video!
I am always happy to see the Xenoblade games getting some love! (Especially Xenoblade 2)
I am curious though, have you played Torna the Golden Country?
@eeveestrations that's good to heart and a good point, actually! It really does feel quite distinct
Even for the hotly contested topics such as the Music, I still think XC3 wins it out for me.)
Despite this though, I still recognize that all three titles are absolutely fantastic. Which surprisingly, isn't as common an opinion as you'd think in this community. (the real unpopular part of my opinion is that I think XC1 and XC2 are equal in greatness.)
Xenoblade 2 is great!
XC2 is my favorite Xenoblade game, partially because it has the best OST in the series! The music is phenomenal.
The music really is out of this world good
@@eeveestrations Absolutely yes!! It's probably my favorite game OST. To the point that I even did a bass cover of Mor Ardain Roaming the Wastes on my YT channel. Hopefully I'll do more of them when I find the time.
I at least enjoyed playing this game as a fan of RPG games that is, have you had a chance to play Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna The Golden County?
I did play Torna! I liked 2’s gameplay more but Torna had a fantastic story and the voice acting was so much smoother!
@ Not to mention the music in Xenoblade Chronicles really is one of my favorites parts about playing the game.
@ the music is outstanding and deserves all the awards in the world
@ I highly appreciate and agree with your statement!
I agree, it’d be really hard to replicate the secret sauce of xc2 that made it so charming 😭
I had similar reservations about playing XC2, but I'm now about 35 hours in and having a good time. Silly anime tropes aside, this is a fantastic game. Fun gameplay, good characters, great story.
Enjoy the rest of the game!!! Really hope you love the reveals of Morytha and the like later in the game as much as I did!
I came here for xb2. I subbed when you so wholesomely said howdy howdy
howdy welcome to the club 🫡 we’re glad to have you here
Honestly i think every title in the xenoblade series is so close to being perfect, they all just have their own little flaws that add up or certain things they just did so, so wrong, its just fixing some minor things and the games would be some of the greatest.
My personal favourite was 3 and i really felt it there.
Xc2 definitive edition in 2035 is gonna be a banger when they fix up a few things
Mira IS my home away from home, I care about this silly planet so much.
man you’re making me even more excited for March, I can’t wait for x 😭
@eeveestrations The game came out when I was 16, but I did not understand a single thing about the gameplay at *all*...yet I still almost 100%ed it. The very final sidequest involved defeating an enemy I couldn't make a dent in without knowing the intricacies of the combat, and this time I'm gonna beat it once and for all.
Given the rest of the series is about the main plot and the main characters and their arcs, I feel as if I need to warn new players:
This game is *entirely* about the side content and the exploration of the world itself. Being a completionist who explores everything is how you fall in love with the characters and the game, so consider the main story quests as nothing more than some particularly important sidequests that exist to unlock more sidequests.
...
And be warned of the name Tatsu.
@soupahmario5869 I’m not a 100% completionist but I’d say I definitely shoot for 95% so it sounds like this should still be a fun game experience!
Amalthus was the least redeemable villain and honestly I thought it was cool how they gave us a mix of sympathetic and straight up evil villains
It just shows that there are people who base their opinions on reactive material with instance emotional responses rather than... actually playing the game as you said (or at least follow someone who played the game)
I think gaming journalism and some game reviews did this game dirty too. So I'm glad content creators, like yourself, who actually played the game are putting more just and detailed content about this game
Thanks for the vid!
yeah gaming journalism did this game so dirty, but I really feel like the rep it got in general was just so unwarranted.
Best game ever
based take!
I loved this game as well, and while I don’t like Rex as a protagonist, it has other characters that are amazing
Morag/Brighid and Zeke/Pandoria deserve more recognition tbh they’re so fun
@ Zeke is very loved among fans. Pandoria isn’t but, they should had given her more protagonism. She kinda fell into the same treatment than Dromarch, just saying a few lines here and there but were very forgettable characters cuz they didn’t receive the spotlight
I always say that if I had to pick my No 1 favourite game in the series it would be Xeno 2 along with still one of the greatest story expansions ever made for any game in Torna The Golden Country. I love the characters various unique designs, overall story and simply incredible music :-)
Torna is so good my mvp of Torna is the Gormott saxophone ITS SO GOOOOOOD
In a horrible but kind of funny bit of irony, the most vocal and aggressive complaining I ever saw about the sexualization in this game came from a registered SO
On a lighter note, my favorite song in the game: The Tomorrow With You, from the "I love this world because you're in it" scene (a track so good it was name-dropped in Future Redeemed!)
seeing the “this you?” tweet hit mainstream Twitter was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen
Not a unique case either, it's happened multiple times where a hater was either registered or caught in something illegal
And when they haven't done something illegal they're usually fans of a certain kind of content
@@TommySkywalker11 Reminds me also of instances of anti-homosexual lawmakers exposed for illicit relationships with same-sex minors. It's a truly terrifying level of projection.
@@MaxAutoAttack yeah there's even been research studies proving it
It's so common for anime/gaming haters in particular that there's a meme for it
this happens constantly. the people who bitch about tits and designs in games and anime are, without exception, people with skeletons in their closet.
Xenoblade chronicles 2 is a fan favorite, it's def my favorite
mine too haha
Xenoblade chronicles 2 is really fun and defenetly my favorite Xenoblade game (even though I've still haven't finished it) but I'll defend every aspect of it
It’s definitely got some flaws but i honestly feel like it’s more fun for it. Like xc3 tried to over correct imo and it ended up with way less life and just not being an enjoyable to play
@eeveestrations fr
I love this game. Beat it 5 years ago and had so much fun with it. Then beat it again like 3-4 years later. This video makes me want to play it again 😅
go for it again and get ready for x on switch 🫡🫡
@ omg good call. Never played x. Looking forward to it
@ I’m so excited for it too!! Only four months away!!
I got the game on release day, but played it after a year. It help me during a break up. 😅 1 of my favorite games ❤
It helped me during the pandemic so I get that lol
The best game, is the best game🌟
This is the only xenoblade game I've ever played and liked it. Not enough for another playthrough since its so long but I liked playing it.
I haven’t played thru again either bc of the length but one day I gotta relive it again when I’ve forgotten a lot of the details. It’s so good!
I wish more ppl would just give it a chance fjtkelskeks 😭
Absolute favorite game of all time right here❤
It’s definitely in my top three for sure!!
I love this game!! I went into the game not knowing about the hate and im so glad i did. I loved everything about it and was surprised how much i got into the combat. Also the blade skill tree system is such a treat, i love that it incentivizes doing a bunch of random crap, cause thats what an adventure is all about LOL
And yes Xenoblade X is awesome, i really loved my time with it and im excited for everyone else to get their time with it.
I just hope when they make the definitive edition of XC2 they add the ability to switch between drivers during combat.
Oh that would be such a great feature
Oh I played it. I wish I never got convinced to buy it, I don’t even like thinking about it. But if you like it then that’s fine. Most of these haters have better things to do than hate on it.
i do like Xenoblade 2 but i can see why it has the stigma it does. ( Glad its now on a good track with Xc3 )
While Xc1 certainly took from the anime tropes playbook, Xc2 dives headfirst into the anime bin.
Xc1 had more grounded characters in practical yet stylish clothing, with an atempt at realism alongside the fantastical world,
Then in Xc2 we go full anime with big eyes(+big pairs of other things), exagirated attire & tropes out the wazoo (not bad, but different)
I actually love the character designs of 2 more than 1 on average but I can see why it doesn’t appeal to everyone. The 1 designs are nice too tho! The vivid colors of 2 are just so pretty
I really want to try Xenogears and play the game in order. I have a ps2 so I wanna see how much Xenosaga costs.
I’ve heard saga is good but also wicked pricey 😭
2 is the best of the main series but my favorite is Xenoblade Chronicles X
just three months away from xcx deeeeee
The lack of an ending for Xenoblade X is being resolved. Just watching the trailer already tells us they're going to give the game a real ending because there are scenes in there that weren't in the original game that take place after its final cutscene.
yeah that was my main concern for the port, having heard a lot about the dreadful cliffhanger at the end, but the fact that it’s clearly being resolved and Monolithsoft explicitly stated that there was new story content and features has me really excited that they’ll polish X even more. So so excited
It's a flawed masterpiece. It's my comfort game. It's my backlogs worst enemy since i played it so much. I love this goofy game.
It really is goofy but it’s just so heartwarming and addicting too 😭
4:25 three houses was partly carried by the fantastic VAs. They were so good.
Awards presuppose that some people’s opinions and preferences are somehow more valid or relevant than others, when they’re not
I love the game the voice acting is amazing
The accents are peak!
I didn’t expect it to be up my alley either so I was crazy grateful to be wrong haha
A musician gamer im subbed to played it for the first time the first few hours it was slow he said but then he started enjoying it
Very, very flawed masterpiece. Game has so much heart, and does so much right. Keep up the fantastic content
Saying it has a lot of heart is a really good way to describe the game. Not perfect, but it has so much soul and it’s so lovable. Also thank you, so glad you enjoyed the video!!!
Same here. I enjoyed XBC1 but didnt love it. I absolutely LOVED XBC2. I am now in the first chunk of XBC3.
Good luck with xc3!
@eeveestrations Thank you! I don't think it can live up to 2 though...
@@eeveestrationsafter finishing three I had to come back and say I was wrong.
Enjoyed 1.
Loved 2.
ABSOLUTELY Loved 3.
XC2 is my favorite. I think it needs a definitive edition of it own to fix some technical stuff but it overall its great.
In fifteen years when it gets a remake we will be here for it 🫡 it better get the credit it deserves the second time around
Music is awesome, and the Golden Country's music (more jazz) AND combat is way better :D
Monolith soft are such masters at creating vast locations, that are using scale to a great effect (people, plz play Xenoblade X).
Nice video!
