Hello! I’ve been on low carb plus intermittent fasting for 4 days and low carbs for 3. Honestly I got no problem doing fasting the problem was when I started eating less carbs. I have 3 days getting headaches, general feeling of weakness , a lil more thirst... I’m so tired and sleepy? Am I killing myself? Help!!

Dr Dan Maggs I’ve been keto 20g or less of carbs for nearly 2 weeks. I’m not as hungry as usual. Maybe 1 meal and a snack with tons of water and I’m fine. I haven’t lost any weight yet but I know it’s coming soon so I’m sticking to it!

I am 48 yo. On the keto diet for 2 months. I have been anxious and irritable, with a foggy mind, arthritis, very low energy, and 20 lbs. heavier for like 2 years. I was skeptical at the beginning. Well, 2nd week, keto flu. Really bad. After that no more anxiety, all cravings gone. Like a war inside my mind and body was over. I am eating half as much now but I am not hungry. After 40 days I had lost 7 lbs. I started to work out again. Clear mind like a younger me and reduced inflammation (update: A year now. I’ve lost 30 lbs. Almost exclusively carnivore now. Some well selected veggies and carbs once in a while. Gained a lot of muscle. Self inmune conditions gone. No more pain, low energy or depression. All good).

Have you also come across how gylcogen is stored with 2 parts water for every part glycogen? When your body was previously using glucose it stored some as glycogen but also stored water with it. When u begin dumping this out and using those stores the water is gotten rid of. This is why people lose weight rapidly at first because it's all of the stored water being flushed out.
Needing the toilet so much does settle down when ur body acclimatises to this WOE.

I’ve been in ketosis for about 4 months. Six months ago, I gave up all grains, sugars and high carb fruits and veggies in one day because I have type 2 diabetes and I wanted off my meds. I had had too many low blood sugar events because of the meds. It took 2 months to get into ketosis. I believe because I had such huge stores of glycogen. But I hung in there and here I am six months later: progressed from 16/8 fast to 18/6 to 20/4 to OMAD; walking 8,000 steps per day plus muscle toning exercises; and weight 170->134. I feel so good with this lifestyle I feel like I was given the keys to the kingdom … the secrets of the universe. Oh, and mental acuity… I’m now studying quilting, French, piano, cooking, and cabinet making. I love this lifestyle, I love learning, I’m off the meds, blood glucose levels remain low, and I’m never going back.I’ll always be diabetic but I manage it without meds.

Like you I am T2, I also have a fatty liver.
4 weeks ago I quit all my diabetes medication (esp insulin) and on the same day I also quit carbs, fruits, veg etc and thought that I had gone into ketosis, but hadn't had any of the mental clarity that people keep talking about.
I guess ketosis will happen when my body is good and ready, but until then I am ecstatic with how much better my blood glucose levels are, they're so much lower and level throughout the day. So even if for some bizarre reason I never achieve ketosis, I will continue a carb free diet for all the other health benefits it brings.

    2. If you can’t really tolerate the headache, I use methol rubs.
    3. I also take supplements during feasting time like potassium, zinc and vitamin D. I also put trace minerals in my water. You’re losing nutrients so we need to replenish them. Hope this is helpful ☺️

That trace mineral replacement is very well advised. I do this in a very inexpensive and practical manner. Every cup of tea, decaf coffee or plain water that I drink I drop in a crystal of SEA SALT to get those trace minerals on a consistent basis. Go for the highest quality sea salt on the store shelf that you can find. Pink Himalayan is probably the best but you don't fine it everywhere.

I just have to say back then when I was eating carbohydrates. When I would go to the gym, After exercising I always got so hungry. Now that I do not eat carbohydrates. I do not feel hungry after I exercise, which is a shock.😧 Also I barely get hungry barely. kind of bothers me because I am naturally and an emotional eater. And I'm more aware of what I'm putting in my body. I mean this new way of thinking is a huge adjustment for me. These are lifestyle changes. Update again I lost 75 pounds!!☺

There's a certain point where your body has burned up every last molecule of sugar it had squirreled away and it's out of fuel and panicking. Unfortunately, it also typically hits around the same time as the carbohydrate withdrawals start. You'll feel like roadkill for a day or so until it discovers it has other energy sources to use. The body is a bit of a drama queen that way lol. But yes, as mentioned by el, electrolytes are a big deal because they go wonky and out of balance during the transition period.

      Great job.
Having used KETO to lose weight myself I have this advice.
Make sure to get enough fat, and especially low enough carbs, but don't be too ambitious. If you limit your food intake too much too fast you risk losing your motivation. When you feel like it does a 18+ hours fasting, maybe 1-3 times a week. But don't force it, do it when it feels natural and not a big deal.
If you don't do fasting then you should react by limiting your food intake a bit at a time, but again don't overdo it. This is not a sprint but a marathon.
My doctor told me they have done new research that says that your body will get back to your maximum weight for 10 years after you lost the weight.
With KETO i got my weight down to 79-83 Kg and have kept it there for 2,5 years now.
4-6 months after I stop being on KETO I start to get so hungry all the time, and gain a bit of weight and go up in body fat % a bit, also fasting leaves me with no energy and feeling bad. Then I know the fat-burning effect of having been on KETO is gone and I'll do KETO again. Usually, I do it for around 2 months, except for the first time when I lost most of the weight in one long go with some short breaks.

      @jswhosoever4533 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

@@shahnazp1712 hi! I started 2 weeks ago and didn't even know I was doing a "keto" diet! It's really simple. I just count total carbs on packages or look them up on the web. I'm having between 20-25 carbs daily. No sweets, no breads, no rice, no pastas. I mainly eat lots of fresh eggs from my hens and unprocessed meats like steaks, bacon, sausage and some chicken. I use sausage because I raise my own pork.(I don't know if store bought sausage is keto.) Lots of natural fats like virgin olive oil, bacon butter (strained bacon grease) and real butter. I will add onions and peppers to my breakfast and some squash or a small salad with my dinner meat. It really is simple if you don't eat anything sweet, nothing premade or out of a box, and nothing processed, like lunch meats or pre-shedded cheese because it has starch on it to keep it from clumping...oh and I eat cheese with everything! But only real cheese- no "cheese product" or "cheese food". I don't get into all the keto diet recipes, mainly because I don't want to go hunting for the substitutes and I just want to get used to not eating certain things, like bread, potatoes, and desserts and in two weeks I have!
Some people use artificial sweeteners but I would advise against it because alot of them are not healthy and even artificial sweets can keep the cravings going. I haven't had any cravings for sweets since day 3 by just not having anything that tasted sweet. My biggest hurdle was my coffee mate creamer that I've been hooked on for 25 years...but heavy whipping cream seems to be good enough now!
I'm also doing intermittent fasting. Most people go for 8 hour eating window and 16 hour fasting. I'm doing 6/18 split.
I'm actually almost doing a carnivore diet except for the little bit of fresh veggies. If you try to do everything natural, like me the meat is very filling, fats keep cravings away and make sure to use a little extra salt to keep from getting constipated. Veggies are just because I'm a gardener and I can't live without them☺️
I usually start my day at 6:30 and drink black coffee and water until my eating time (noon) then I eat as much as it takes to satisfy without overeating--chew your food well and take your time eating! Then after 6 pm I only have herbal tea or water. No carbs outside of your eating window is key!
I've been going for 2 weeks today and have lost 9.6 pounds. And it's not difficult at all. This is literally the easiest diet I've ever done!

I am on low carb. I've lost 20 lbs quite easily. My carbs are under 110g 85% of the time everyday, I set my max at 150g. Low carb I lose weight much more even. Keep more muscle mass and avoid that skinny fat look. Vs when I did calories in and out. I lost weight but was very skinny fat. Now,My hunger isn't all over the place anymore . I have more energy and less cravings. My starting weight was 167.8 lbs. Current weight is about 147.8 lbs in 4 1/2 months.

So in about 46 days, I've lost 31 lbs. No sugar, One Meal A Day and about an added 8 days of pure solid food fasting. I did to sets of 3 day fasting and one set of 2 day fasting. The last set, I was going to eat something light that night and I just wasn't that excited about it so I just decided to push through and eat nothing. I've got to say the cravings and crashes leaving me is an amazing feeling. Indian diets tend to be very carb and veggie heavy, a few weeks ago I decided to go full carnivore and its been life changing. The acetone breath hit me just now but the weight loss started almost immediately. Insomnia is there and after the initial lethargy I feel like a new person with the amount of energy I have now.
I've only eaten breakfast today and the whole day's gone by and here at 7pm I'm writing this and I feel absolutely no need to fix my self a sweet or carb heavy snack. In fact I'm just going to get my business in order and get to bed, haven't eaten dinner in three days, heavy carnivore breakfast, a snack carnivore lunch and no dinner and I feel better than I've ever felt.

Now, I give myself 13 units long acting and may have to stop that completely bc my BS dropped to 53 before dinner tonight. Haven’t used any short term insulin at all since starting. I have zero food cravings or hunger with the 18:6 fasting interval. Have also lost 3.5 lbs. Energy, mood and concentration are all great.

Excellent video. I’m doing keto for the second time. I took a break of about 2 years. I maintained my weight for about a year with liberal low carb but in the last year I went back. to eating bad carbs and gained over 20 pounds. Lesson learned. My first time around, I had all of the side-effects for about a week. This time, they are less severe and are passing in 3 days, except for the revved up feeling. I still have that after 3 days. It makes me wake up often in the night but from my experience from last time it only lasts a week or so, but it comes back periodically. With that said, in general, I sleep very soundly on Keto.

Great presentation. My reduced hunger from Keto led me to intermittent fasting very easily. My busiest time of day is the morning and Ketogenic diet and intermitten fasting have helpedme but more productive in the mornings, with no energy drops throughout the day.

My surgeon put me on a Low Carb High Fat regime pre-Total Hip Replacement surgery, and I lost 50 pounds doing that. By the time I started on the Keto way of eating, one year later, I was already well adjusted for Keto, so I experienced no flu-like symptoms. A year after starting Keto I started Intermittent Fasting. These gradual and progressive adjustments have served me pretty well.

It is easier than any other diet because you eat whole foods as folks did in the early 20th century. Crisco, Mazola, Wesson and Margarine are poisons. What happened to the stove side bacon grease cans? Government convinced everyone fats led to heart disease so everyone started eating fake crap and getting fat. Look at pictures of people from 80 years ago and notice the difference.

Keto breath means you're eating too much protein. You only need 4 to 8 oz of protein per meal on this diet. More than 8 oz is too much. Your body will actually turn excess protein into sugar. Headaches and flu symptoms are actually caused by not enough salt or too much water that flushes out the salt. These symptoms aren't normal and actually signal a problem.

Thank you for putting this excellent and very helpful video together. I have certainly had these signs! From day 12, I started cycling for about 1.5 hours a day and noticed that I couldn't go as far nor as fast as I usually do. On day 16 (yesterday), I got the dreaded keto-flu! I felt more energised during my morning ride, but found that I was more thirsty than usual; during the ride, I drank two 710ml bottles in 1.2 hours when usually I would drink less than one. Afterwards, I continued to be really thirsty all morning - I just could not get enough water in my system! I also felt nauseous and had a headache which I understand that this is due to the lack of sodium. My appetite also really dropped (total kCals for the day was about 1,400 even though I burned over 1,000 with the morning exercise); up until yesterday, I was eating around 2,200 kCals a day. I resolved the headache and nausea by by drinking some salt in my water and by having some good quality bone broth. This morning, I feel great. Appetite is still very low, but I guess thats because my body has finally started to keto-adapt. Its really interesting to see the changes. I have lost 3.2kgs in my 12 days (my starting weight was 83.3kgs) and am looking forward to seeing my cycling performance improve over the coming weeks/months.

Man… I was kind of feeling the mental clarity part for tiny reasons, just tiny things here and there
But the moment I realised I really, definitely had that mental clarity from ketogenesis is when I was reading an article online and I realized that not only I was understanding everything in the article effortlessly, but I was rushing through it, the reading was fast and fluid, which I don’t remember having since I was like 13 years old or something

The very first time I did low carb the "flu" was a almost a week long. I would feel fine and then I would crash randomly and even walking was exhausting. However, once that was over I can remember feeling great. Also I do recall the headaches and rapid heart beat and mild chest pains. This of course worried me but some materials I read at the time was that it was basically one's addiction to sugar/glycogen. I liked to give my body a personality and would use that as fuel, "that bastard is fighting back!" That too was short lived however.
On a sidebar, thinking back to before low carbohydrate, it angers me how one would get "low blood sugar" or that feeling when I had plenty of fat on me and I had eaten only a few hours before. It's like your body is lying to you and refuses to use that pantry of stored energy, jealously clinging onto its fat stores. It never made sense to me.
How did mankind function when food was scarce? It certainly wouldn't be an evolutionary benefit to collapse on the floor whenever you miss a meal. Once I discovered low carb I realized it's because we were never meant to eat that many carbohydrates.
I recall a funny column whose writer is lost to me. It was something like: "Carbs are actually quite rare in nature and those that did exist, like fruit, were much more fibrous and only available at certain times of the year. Don't believe me, go out in the forest and find some rye bread, pasta or a chocolate bar."
Thanks for the video. These keep me going!

@@Evikeuklavier yea! feeling fatigued on a low-carb diet is quite of a common thing that happens when you're not having enough sodium or salt. that's why I've heard many recommend to increase your sodium intake when you're on a low-carb diet because your insulin levels go really low and your body starts shedding off the excess sodium. I also read that the decreasing level of carbs also means decreasing level of sodium
what I've been doing lately every morning is starting the day off with salty and cold lemon water. the freshness of the lemon and the salt kind of pumps you up a bit from the morning drowsiness :D

Andrea winger hell yes but you get used to it. I’m a binge eater, well WAS a binge eater. You honestly get used to it fast if you do it right. I eat a heavy breakfast with ghee in my eggs then a heavy dinner. For lunch I eat something like a veggie patties or salad with cheese and mayonnaise. That way you’re full longer. It’s so worth it! Every now and then I’ll have a few (maybe 3 or ) pork rinds a little before bed just in case but it helps! Also, drink warm lemon water an hour or two before bed and first in the morning (I just buy the little jug of lemon juice in the fruit section) also it’ll clear the bloat out. Then I eat breakfast. If I wake up in the middle of the night I usually take a table spoon or two of pepto or Kaopectate or tums! But yes it works!
