    When did United start putting blue walls in jetbridges at the hubs inherited from Continental? I have flown United out of EWR, a PMCO hub, multiple times and everytime I went through one of EWR's jetbridges, the walls were a whitish-gray color.

    Brian I’ve been working for almost three years traveling by air as a consultant for restaurants. I started small learning how to get points from sky miles and slowly paced myself learning from your blogs. Now I’m familiar witch utilizing credit cards for their rewards, perks and points. Using lounges and priority passes to heighten my work and traveling experience, taking my parents and loved ones on free trips and teaching people about what I’ve learned.
    So where do I submit my resume and finally work for your company? Haha

    That $5.60 is the 9/11 Security Fee charged for each passenger. There's also a $4 flat fee (applied to each person) for any flight segment *staying within* US airspace. Alternatively, there's a $17.70 flat fee (per passenger) for any international flight originating or terminating in the US. This is to cover Customs enforcement, which is considered separate from domestic TSA enforcement. Finally, there's a 6% excise tax taken out of the price of a single ticket. This is combined with a $56.86 fee per 100 nautical miles flown in US airspace (not per passenger), to cover the costs of Air Traffic Control, and to airports (big city and small city alike) that receive federal funding.
    So... yeah. In short, taxes on a domestic flight take 6% out of the total ticket price, plus a share of $56.86 per 100 nautical miles flown, plus $9.60 of flat taxes.
    For a JFK-LAX flight of capacity 186:
    ($9.60 x 186)+(28 x $56.86)+(6% of gross ticket revenue).
    If the average ticket price is $472 (due to the weight that the ticket prices of premium seating has), then:
    ($472 x 186) minus
    (($472 x 186) x 0.06) minus ($56.86 x 28) minus
    ($9.60 x 186)
    So the gross ticket revenue is $87,792. Taxes takes away $8645.20, leaving $79,146.80 in revenue. Keep in mind, this doesn't include passenger facility charges from the airports, or fuel sales, or fuel taxes. Then there's the cost of labor and maintenance, which vary by airline.
    While people in the US see airlines as greedy money-grabbers, that's only because its expensive to run a passenger transportation business -- very high labor and maintenance costs, with the average passenger demanding lower fares but not lowering their expectations with regards to seat comfort, snacks, drinks, and baggage.
    Also, Americans see air travel as common for the middle class person, but the rest of the world doesn't view air travel as utilitarian, like the US does. You want world class facilities? Users pay. You want cheap flights into congested and popular airports? Taxpayers pay. All of them. Including those who can't afford to fly.
    In short, *your expectations of airline service quality cannot be maintained if you want fares to stay stagnant or get cheaper.*

    It seems that United is just using the 777-300ER on both flights out of Newark, and not using 787-10 anymore maybe it’s because of the 777-300ER is a bigger plane with more Polaris seats than the 787-10

    • @kwfown
      @kwfown 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Kelly That’s a fair statement, I do recall there are certain biz seats all the way in the back that has considerable room for the feet. But as someone that tall, spacing is really an issue in most planes
