TFS are huge fans of the original Japanese version and I personally consider that scene (along with a handful of others) to be better than all of the other English versions because it's a more faithful rendition of the original Japanese
It’s part of why I love DBZA. Dragon Ball was going to be very hard to adapt because it’s so iconic. You’d really have to do a series like that justice. The first SSJ transformation and Gohan’s SSJ2 transformation are indisputably the most iconic moments in all of anime, and I’m glad they treated it with the seriousness it deserved.
its funny how for me, watching the series originally as it came out I felt Cell was the first character to really replace Nappa in terms of big funny guy. so when I realized it was Taka it made more sense.

See the original story wasn’t bad but this is more encompassing as to the whole world and how evil will triumph as long as good men keep doing nothing. Very potent message, especially for todays age where it feels like dark times are coming and all people seem to wanna do is whine about it instead of taking actions

so many things you can appreciate from the final scenes, the bird representing his his innocence and the red line passing through like a gunshot killing the bird (hence his innocence), the tears representing his last bit of empathy towards cell as they finallly finish as his face hardens and is ready to fight and the OST being a dubbed cover of the orginal japanese OST which lyrically fits perfectly with gohan and this moment. love it.
You wouldn't know since you didn't watch the original but that entire scene of gohan transforming apart from the dialogue is pretty much how it went down. The bird flying, the music (remix of the song they used in the original japanese version of dbz). Well done TFS
I remember a LOT of people LAUGHED their asses off when they realised Vegeta Jr Jr sounded like Nappa. Also side note, the song at the end, it's a full on english translation of the song "Unmei No Hi" from the OG Japanese language track, TFS uploaded the full version on YT and it, is, glorious! No scratch that... PERFECT!
This episode shows more than anything the RESPECT that TFS had for this anime. The fact that they made the Gohan SSJ2 moment serious and so epic, is amazing. They did an amazing job and they deserve all the praise.

It can also be a love letter to it, which is what they've openly said they went for with season 3. Finding the humour, but also trying to capture just what made them love the show.

I love these moments when TFS play a scene entirely straight. It really makes them stand out amongst the usually more comedic tone and it's where you really feel the love they have for the show. Like, the amount of work they put into the SSJ2 transformation is admirable.

Just so you you know Takahata101 who is the Voice actor for Cell is also the voice actor for Dende, Nappa, Super Kami Guru and others in the DBZA As well as the Voice Actor for Alucard in the TFS Hellsing Abridged.
Throughout this whole series with all the transformatins that people go thru, the MOST emotional transformations are when Goku 1st went super vs Frieza, when Trucks went super after gohan died, and this one where Gohan goes super lvl 2(hidden potential) vs Cell.
The song at the end was translater just for DBZA from a fan for team four star, which is one of the greatest things i have ever seen and heard, the full version is beautifull, and it shows just how much love and hard work team fourstar put in the Final Episode of the Cell Saga, some people like this version more then The Original Anime end some even more then the Original manga, and this is supposed to be an Abridge comedy Series. Yes. Saiyans age very slowly. But since Gohan is only half saiyan he ages mostly like normal humans. Also, the line Vegeta said a few episodes ago saying the only hair that grows on saiyans since birth is beards mustaches is actually canon.
TFS playing the ending straight is genuinely clap-worthy. one of the veeeery few times they don't undercut the tension for comedic effect. absolutely brilliant
Glad you finally got to this. This is the best episode they ever did and I never expected them to make Gohan's transformation more compelling than any of the english dubs versions. The only shame is the series had to end just as they were reaching the peak of their abilities.

I love how a soulless ginger robot (double-entendre) was the final straw for Gohan to snap and unleash his true power. Also, imagine if Cell decided to eat 16 instead of killing him.
I love that TFS kept the full SSJ2 transformation sequence and kept it serious without throwing any jokes in there if there is one moment in Dragon Ball that deserves it, it's this one.
Gohan's SS2 transformation was done FAR BETTER than Funi could ever have. They didn't need to have Gohan do a stupid internal monologue right before the transformation. The understanding of death of innocence was clear as day with Android 16.
That's how it was in the original Japanese dub. They didn't need to change anything for the abridged. That's why TFS commissioned a translated version of the original Japanese track that played here, Unmei no Hi, "The Day of Destiny/Fate". Besides the jokes and the tone of the 16 speech, its pretty much 1 to 1.
Yeah that makes sense because Goku was around 19 when Gohan was born then Goku was around 23 when Raditz landed on Earth and 24 when Vegeta/Nappa landed on Earth and the fight between Freeza and SSJ Goku happened like a month and half after the fight with Vegeta and Goku
@@MrErva666 Saiyans are usually in there physical prime untill there around 80 years old then old age will hit them like a ton of bricks, So even if Goku did or didn't age during the year of being dead it dosn't matter much

Back in the early 00's making AMVs with Gohan's transformation and subsequent beat down of cell set to Lincoln Park was super popular. I remember one of those was actually how I was introduced to Lincoln Park's music.
The song played during gohan's transformation is the tfs version of tamashi tai tamashi by hinorobu kageyama (same guy that sings cha la head cha la) this song was played in the original japanese dub it's one of the best soundtracks in anime
Another thing to get p*ssed at about DBZ Kakarot, is that if you wanted to hear the Gohan transformation theme, you had to pay extra for a music pack DLC....lame.
Honestly I like all the different versions of Gohan's ssj2 transformation, the OG DBZ one, the Japanese sub, DBZ Kai and the TFS version, but my favourite would have to be DBZ Kai version

It was partially true. They just really drew attention to it in abridged. Even in the original he didn't like to fight and hurt needlessly. The reason he held back so long was in the past when he lost control he just went sort of berserker with no control over himself and he was afraid doing it now would only make that part worse

The cell jrs are canonically confirmed to be slightly stronger than Vegeta who was the second strongest there or well strongest with Goku tired after cell If Goku was at full health he would have defeated a Few cell jrs not all 7 and definetly not easily but at least 2 ( going one on one )
You must be like, I don't know, the tenth reactor/reaction channel I've gone through Abridged with. I sorely miss watching new episodes of DBZA as they came out, but seeing it again through someone else's eyes brings some of that feeling back and it's fantastic every time.

To be fair, TFS did a great job covering most of these iconic scenes. I honestly think they did a better job with Future Trunks' transformation than the original, and that's saying something since the original was legendary anyway.
Honestly Abridged isn't a terrible way to experience this for the first time. They did it justice. Didn't even joke with Gohan SSJ2 transformation.. all serious. And even included a rendition of the original Japanese dub song.

Hope you don’t skip it because it’s one of my favorite entries of the series and perfectly closes the knot on the “Goku wants to save Christmas” running joke

man seeing gohan transform to super saiyan 2 for the first time is one of the coldest things ive ever experienced as an anime enjoyer. not a dragon ball fanboy but damn its one of the things that made my childhood unforgettable. watching anime after school and wasting a lot of hours watching anime, those were the good times man.

What 16 says to Gohan is very similar to what was said here. It's just much more brutal and straightforward in DBZA and better in a great many ways.
I really would love to see you react to the iconic clips of OG dbz after finishing this series. The OG dbz is truly an remarkable experience.
Cell is voiced by the same guy that was Napa, hence why the Jr.'s sound like him. He was also Guru in Namak. Takahata101 has quite the range like most of TFS
The Song at the end is the English version of the song that was in the original Japanese Dub of DBZ. It's called "Day of Fate"
The fact that they remastered the theme for this is exactly why this is my favorite abridged.
When TFS tones down and isolates the jokes, what is happening starts to hit real hard. One of the best and one of my favorite episodes out there.

Yeah, you kind of caught it, the dialogue Cell and Gohan have near the end leading up to the Super Saiyan 2 transformation you call out on. For anyone unaware, it's a call back to the fact that there were just a TON of AMV's made of this moment back in the earlier days of TH-cam.
The Linkin Park song reference is fitting because there used to be a bunch of videos on Youttube dedicated to DBZ that used popular rock songs intermixed with the footage. One of the most popular cuts was Cell Games Gohan X Cell with that Linkin Park song

Just so you you know Takahata101 who is the Voice actor for Cell is also the voice actor for Dende, Nappa, Super Kami Guru and others in the DBZA As well as the Voice Actor for Alucard in the TFS Hellsing Abridged.
Fun fact: All the Cell Juniors (save Vegeta Jr Jr) are named after people who voiced Cell in the past.
Throughout this whole series with all the transformatins that people go thru, the MOST emotional transformations are when Goku 1st went super vs Frieza, when Trucks went super after gohan died, and this one where Gohan goes super lvl 2(hidden potential) vs Cell.
The best moment of DBZ is when Gohan went SSJ2.
The song at the end was translater just for DBZA from a fan for team four star, which is one of the greatest things i have ever seen and heard, the full version is beautifull, and it shows just how much love and hard work team fourstar put in the Final Episode of the Cell Saga, some people like this version more then The Original Anime end some even more then the Original manga, and this is supposed to be an Abridge comedy Series. Its just Awsome.

So pretty sure some of the comments already addressed it, but if you're interested the song is called 'Tamashii Tai Tamashii' and there's the original Japanese version as well as the Team Four Star version, and both versions absolutely rock.
Yes. Saiyans age very slowly. But since Gohan is only half saiyan he ages mostly like normal humans. Also, the line Vegeta said a few episodes ago saying the only hair that grows on saiyans since birth is beards mustaches is actually canon.
TFS playing the ending straight is genuinely clap-worthy. one of the veeeery few times they don't undercut the tension for comedic effect. absolutely brilliant
Glad you finally got to this. This is the best episode they ever did and I never expected them to make Gohan's transformation more compelling than any of the english dubs versions. The only shame is the series had to end just as they were reaching the peak of their abilities.
I would have loved to see the TFS take on Fat Buu and Super Buu.

I love how a soulless ginger robot (double-entendre) was the final straw for Gohan to snap and unleash his true power. Also, imagine if Cell decided to eat 16 instead of killing him.

I love that TFS kept the full SSJ2 transformation sequence and kept it serious without throwing any jokes in there if there is one moment in Dragon Ball that deserves it, it's this one.
Gohan's SS2 transformation was done FAR BETTER than Funi could ever have. They didn't need to have Gohan do a stupid internal monologue right before the transformation. The understanding of death of innocence was clear as day with Android 16.
That's how it was in the original Japanese dub. They didn't need to change anything for the abridged. That's why TFS commissioned a translated version of the original Japanese track that played here, Unmei no Hi, "The Day of Destiny/Fate". Besides the jokes and the tone of the 16 speech, its pretty much 1 to 1.
"We both know he didn't have a soul." That works on two levels,
1) 16 is an "android" 2) 16 is a ginger.
Goku is only about 30 years old here, which is weird. Even his year of death is equalised by his year in the time chamber.
Yeah that makes sense because Goku was around 19 when Gohan was born then Goku was around 23 when Raditz landed on Earth and 24 when Vegeta/Nappa landed on Earth and the fight between Freeza and SSJ Goku happened like a month and half after the fight with Vegeta and Goku
Between Raditz and Vegeta, Goku was dead. Can we really say he aged then?

20:50 I'm probably just missing the comments, but I haven't seen many people that got the whole references with these songs. Back in the early 00's making AMVs with Gohan's transformation and subsequent beat down of cell set to Lincoln Park was super popular. I remember one of those was actually how I was introduced to Lincoln Park's music.

The song played during gohan's transformation is the tfs version of tamashi tai tamashi by hinorobu kageyama (same guy that sings cha la head cha la) this song was played in the original japanese dub it's one of the best soundtracks in anime
Another thing to get p*ssed at about DBZ Kakarot, is that if you wanted to hear the Gohan transformation theme, you had to pay extra for a music pack DLC....lame.
I will always love the original version of SSJ2 Gohan's theme, TFS really did justice to one of the best DB songs.
Honestly I like all the different versions of Gohan's ssj2 transformation, the OG DBZ one, the Japanese sub, DBZ Kai and the TFS version, but my favourite would have to be DBZ Kai version

The whole pacifist angle with Gohan was never a thing in the original series.
It was partially true. They just really drew attention to it in abridged. Even in the original he didn't like to fight and hurt needlessly. The reason he held back so long was in the past when he lost control he just went sort of berserker with no control over himself and he was afraid doing it now would only make that part worse
Been 2yrs and I have practically listened all your reactions for DBZA every night almost without fail, I genuinely hate that I made this a habit that makes me uneasy if I don’t have it , the human minds scares me and the emotions and things we feel
I think the Cell Jr are as strong as Cell has shown himself to be at this point. Meaning Cell is still holding back a lot of power.
I doubt it, Vegeta, Trunks & Piccolo were keeping up with their Cell Jrs. And even Suppressed Cell stomps them.

The cell jrs are canonically confirmed to be slightly stronger than Vegeta who was the second strongest there or well strongest with Goku tired after cell
If Goku was at full health he would have defeated a Few cell jrs not all 7 and definetly not easily but at least 2 ( going one on one )

I sorely miss watching new episodes of DBZA as they came out, but seeing it again through someone else's eyes brings some of that feeling back and it's fantastic every time.

To be fair, TFS did a great job covering most of these iconic scenes.

Honestly Abridged isn't a terrible way to experience this for the first time. They did it justice. Didn't even joke with Gohan SSJ2 transformation.. all serious. And even included a rendition of the original Japanese dub song.
I don't know what disappoints me more, not seeing the original show, or that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was your first DBZ game. I'm so sorry for your childhood 🤣🤣
