Use nets or traps. Also, if you crab at night, line the shore or seawall with bright lights. I use bright LED lanterns or Petromax or Coleman lanterns. That really draws the crabs!

I've found they can be bigger in the bayou itself, near some cuts about 1000 feet from the mouth. They vary widely in size and fullness. Of course you do need to fish from a boat to get to that spot.

Got the T shirt there years ago lol! Always fun early. We used to tie string to my 2 ring nets and toss them like a frisby to the middle of the baya to compliment the string lines. Nets worked great in deeper water early as well.
Louisiana is on my bucketlist of places I want to try crabbing and on my list of states that I want to move to after my kids are in college in a few years. Have you ever tried using a trotline? I don't ever see anyone using them in videos anywhere except Maryland and Delaware.
Awesome video! I prefer fall here in Maryland because the crabs are packed full of meat as they fatten up for winter. They usually bury themselves in the mud and don't do much here in winter plus there are not many people out crabbing since most only crab in summer here so there aren't any crowds.
Do you clean the crabs in fresh water? I have no experience with crabs or crabbing but I saw a show where they caught a bunch of crayfish in freshwater, water didn't look like it was moving all that much and they would put them in freshwater alive to clean them out. I don't know how long or exactly what the crayfish may have had but they cautioned that if you didn't do this at least make sure to cook them well before eating.

We use to catch 100 to 300 per 6 hour trip. Now we catch 20 to 60. Same with fishing , it's sad Florida is dead. Too many people keeping everything , no fishing liscence just a food stamp card.
Here in South Florida, when we catch blues in brackish water like that, usually the canals, they have worms and you have to sprinkle salt on them before prepping to cook. The salt drives the worms right out, and you can see them in the bottom of the cooler. No problem with worms there?

I normally just wing the seasoning. I use liquid crab bail and salt until it tastes right, then add onions, garlic, lemons, celery, bay leaves and a few other less-important ingredients. I bring the water to a rolling boil, add the crabs, return to a rolling boil and let it go for 6-7 minutes. Then I cut off the fire, and soak them for 45 minutes.
Yes, I watched it and I did see you guys use nets, my apology.Just never used a fishing pole to crab. I guess you could say I am just old school, using a net allows me to catch multiple crabs at a time.

@@MarshManMasson Hello, only a fishing license is required for crabbing, just curious, I plan on coming to Louisiana to vacation, just to catch crabs, maybe even crawfish, and want to be sure what type of licenses r needed, cause n Main, u need a specific license to harvest clams, or is it muscles, Lol, I forget, it was on Zack Fowler’s channel. Would u tell me places I can get the license??? Watching y’all makes me wanna go there now, I wish Oklahoma had crabs, we have Crawdads, but nothing nowhere’s compared to Louisiana 😭. Appreciate it! @@joybickerstaff194 Most Sporting Goods store sell them. I get mine in the Sporting Goods section of Walmart. I'm a retired disabled vet so my licenses are free in Texas. Not sure if it's the retired part or the disabled part that makes them free.

Lacombe is my home town. Caught a many of blue crabs off lake road. The size of crabs has really dropped over the years

My kids and i crab fish with hand lines off carr drive with nylon string and pork neck pieces. We use cane poles to tie off to.

Our crabbing is excellent in the fall, but so is our speckled trout fishing, and that usually consumes my recreation time then.

No need to clean crabs. They don't live in mud, like crawfish. You can hose them off if it makes you feel better, but I don't.

We catch them in saltier water along the coast. The water in this area is much closer to fresh.
I catch some good ones on hackberry too.
