  • Ref loses control of soccer match as he decides not to give anyone cards on any body checks or rough tackles so the game late in the 2nd half really gets out of hand as Laguna United defeats Fram 3-2, with a late goal during a head injury where play should have been stopped right away

    The goalkeeper was perfectly entitled to stick his arm out to protect himself from that disgraceful challenge in the opening bit of the video. There is no requirement to allow yourself to be bulldozed by an opponent. White player will think twice before doing that again.

      The yellow card to the gk was totally wrong and I wonder how he resumed the game (he can't take only the disciplinary action without a technical one if the ball is in play). As a ref, I can say that the colleague in the video has totally lost the control of the game. In our activity, it's important not only taking right decisions, but most of all that our decisions (also wrong decisions) are accepted by players and trainers and that they recognize our authority on the pitch. The ref in the video has lost his authority from the moment in which he let the coach yell at him in front of his player without taking any disciplinary action. From that moment, the player has done whatever they wanted and this has culminated with that terrible foul and an anaboidable red card.

    • @bheers71
      @bheers71 8 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      +Stephen Malacaria This is a difficult thing to do in these circumstances--the referee is tracking the ball and running to the other side of the field, trying to keep the bell between himself and the assistant referee who would be "lower right side" or the screen. The "lower right side" assistant referee is focused on the offside line on the other half of the field. Neither one of these referees should be even looking in the direction of the injured player--their attention and line-of-sight is elsewhere. The only referee with a chance to see this is the "upper left side" assistant referee, who has no way to convey this to the others in dynamic play. IF center referee had realized the injury, play should have stopped. But we cannot ex post facto stop play. Goal should count, as it did.

  • @TheRailwaymen
    @TheRailwaymen 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    Ref here. Apologies if I’m missing something, but I don’t see anything really wrong with most of these calls. In the first clip, the goalkeeper protected himself from a charging player. The force of the GK may have taken him down, however this is not a foul, and does not warrant a stoppage in play unless the player had a severe head injury. The second call was also correct, as the goalkeeper attempted to nitpick at the player and was caught in the act, being issued a caution as stated in IFAB. The red card was deserved as well; the studs were up, the challenge was late, there was no contact with the ball, and it endangered the safety of the opponent, all IFAB laws that warrant an ejection. After the tackle you can also see the player put his studs into the fouled player’s back. The only thing I hope is that the referee had a talk to the player who shoved the player that was sent off. While he was further endangering the opponent, a shove was not needed, however nothing should be issued to that player than a talking to. Just my view, you’re entitled to your opinion 🙃

    I thought the ref did a pretty good job. Never stay near an injured player once the coach or trainer comes on the field you're only going to get dissent. The only issue I had was when he carded the goalie at the 1:20 Mark the only restart you can possibly have is a PK. He obviously called some type of foul on the goalie inside the penalty area and the only possible restart is a direct free-kick for the opposing team which would be a PK.

      I mean it the ball was clearly in possession of the goalie. He made a long touch on the ball and you can see the idiot in white take a huge step to get in front of the goalie. Had the keeper not maintained control of the ball after the collision there should have been a foul on the white player. Since i retained control i can only assume that the ref gave advantage and let play continue.

    the clear difference between both sides' supporters are that the yellow team's parents, which are mexican (presuming there accent), actually know about soccer while the white team's side, which are americans, clearly dont know jack about the game by saying "charging foul" or some other bs. Plus, the yellow team is focusing more on calming down and just playing the game, even the goalies dad told him to calm down in spanish, while the white team side was completely immature and unprofessional the whole time, and the coach shouldve been sent out cause they arent allowed to talk bad about the ref or enter the pitch at all. Actually, the restart after the Caution to the GK is questionable; it looks like he was going to drop the ball. What was the Caution for, other than the GK pushing the attacker or swinging his arm at the attacker (which would be attempting to strike)? When play is stopped for a DFK foul, it should be a DFK restart, in this case a penalty kick. The more sensible approach would be to say the game was stopped for misconduct by both attacker and GK and restart with an IFK for the defending team since the attacker's misconduct was committed first.

    • @BenJustice13
      @BenJustice13 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Unsporting behavior is misconduct and is not a DFK or an IFK. Ref screwed up by not throwing out white coach and for not cautioning white players for charges. Red card was a joke, questionable that was even a foul, let alone a yellow, no way in hell a red.

    • @bhamsoxfan72
      @bhamsoxfan72 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What do you mean UB is not a DFK or IFK? What is a tactical foul if not UB and a DFK? What is a reckless foul if not UB and a DFK? What is simulation if not UB and an IFK? I'll agree the coach should have been expelled from the field, but you think the tackle into the legs wasn't even a foul? Have you ever read the Laws of the Game? The scissors action on that play is a classic example of endangering the safety of an opponent - Violent Conduct.

      @callumgreen9672 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ben Justice I agree

    • @bheers71
      @bheers71 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      UB is misconduct, which is not a foul (although UB may arise FROM a foul, it is distinct)--your examples of reckless foul or tactical foul are UB. But "UB" does not equal foul. UB may arise FROM a foul. If I'm centering that match, I've giving YC's to both attackers for challenging the goalkeeper (which is an IFK), a YC to the goalkeeper for his post-foul swing, and then restarting with an indirect free kick for the GK's team. I suspect this is what was called (except that referee decided against cards).
      The restart is clearly going out, which makes no sense if the referee was actually calling this based on the GK's swing--in this case, this would be "Attempts to strike", which is a DFK foul, thus a penalty kick would be the restart. So clearly this is not what the referee called.
      Either he made an error in restart, or he went with the idea that play had already stopped by the actions of the two attackers. (I just don't understand why no card).
      By the way, I am in agreement with you on the scissors tackle being a red, but it is "serious foul play"--still red, but not as severe a sanction as Violent Conduct.
      Cheers

      +shane lobato You are CORRECT this is NOT a foul as the Ref played Advantage... Another words the keeper had possession of the ball and the opponent charged the keeper once he charged the keeper and tried to knock him off the ball, the keeper was able to maintain possession of the ball therefore advantage played out. Now having said that at the next stoppage if I were the ref I would have yellow carded white for that charge as he didn't look like he was even trying to play the ball. The coach was out of line and as the ref I would have handled him differently
      Next Play DOES look like OFFSIDE CALL was missed
      Next when the keeper looks to be taunting the two attackers he gets a Yellow, I didn't really see a foul but it could be for Unsporting Behavior
      Next Play was the thrown in where yellow pushed white during stoppage-I would have red carded that player
      Next Play was a slide tackle -That was called correctly but I believe a red was due to the white player who pushed the carded player also for Violent Conduct
      Overall the video title is not really accurate as I didnt see this game get out of control

It reminds me of a game I did involving U13 girls. At one point a player said, "Don't listen to her, ref. She's my Mom and she doesn't know what she's talking about!"

    goalie's heading was not towards white jersey,
    white jersey was never in possesion of the ball,
    white jersey's heading was directly towards goalie,
    goalie protected his possession of the ball without breaking any rules.
    White jersey coach should had been yellow-carded.
    Second play,
    yellow jersey tackled white jersey sideways,
    white jersey wins an Oscar award for his acting.
    That should had been a yellow card to yellow jersey.
    Third play,
    goalie is in possesion of the ball when two white jerseys taunt him,
    both white jerseys step in front of him within inches to goalie's face,
    ref lets the crowd pressure get to him and unfairly yellow cards goalie.
    That should had been a warning to both white jerseys.
    The whining crowd gets a yellow card for being such moaning little bitches."

    I like how people are yelling "foul on the goalie". If anything it's a foul on the striker for not playing the ball. Good play from the goalie. Unfortunately he screws up by smacking a player later in the game. I don't see in any way the ref losing control. He actually does a good job. The only thing I think he could be criticized for is for not giving a yellow to the player who shoved the guy who was about to get the red. The spectators seem like a bunch of idiots though, especially the guy yelling, "foul on the goalie, offsides, that was a charging foul, he elbowed him in the face, ref you have more authority than that you can do better". And if I were the ref I would have told the coach after he started yelling about his player who wasn't fouled that one more word about it and he would be gone.

    • @lobaxx

      That's the worst thing about being a referee. Getting shit from players and sometimes even coaches is one thing - it's the parents that are the absolute worst. They're obnoxious, distracting and they yell, scream and criticize everything you do, usually without having the slightest clue of what they are talking about. I've been coaching since I was 13, I've coached games with parents like the ones above when I was just a kid.
      It's bloody horrible, makes me hate the game I used to love.

    • @Call_Me_Echelon
      @Call_Me_Echelon 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kristian Jörgensen I've seen my fair share of terrible parents as a player, coach, and ref. I've had to kick the same coach off the field two separate times. I've coached for over 10 years and fortunately I've had great parents who sometimes yelled, but never got mean or obnoxious. A lot of that has to do with teaching the game to the parents at the same time as the kids.
      As far as players, I was surprised to find that girls between 13 and 17 years old are the absolute worst. The only games I've had to abandon were girls games. Boys usually take the hint after the first couple of yellows. Some girls however, just don't care.

  • @danielchile76
    @danielchile76 8 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    George, that was not a foul, simple as that. Also, on the yellow card to the goalie, that should have been yellow for the 2 forwards that provoked him. Coach and people's involvement does not help much. You all wanted to see this go down quickly.

    • @smala017
      @smala017 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      True that the players who interfered with the goalies ability to distribute the ball should have been carded and an indirect free kick for the goalie, but that still doesn't excuse the goalies actions. I think yellow for all three players would have been warranted.

    • @BruinsChampions2011
      @BruinsChampions2011 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Stephen Malacaria I disagree. I think the official got it right with a YC to the goalie. The players in white went in following the ball incase the goalie misplayed it. The goalie was not attempting to release the ball so how could they be interfering with his releasing the ball?

    • @FGNActual
      @FGNActual 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The LoTG state that
      "It is an offence for a player to prevent a goalkeeper from releasing the ball from his hands."
      It says nothing about having to give the Goalkeeper space if he/she has the ball. In this case, they didn't prevent him from releasing the ball because there had been no attempt to release the ball that could be prevented. All the players were doing was making sure that he didn't make a mistake. No yellow to the players, YC to the GK is the correct decision.

    One thing holds true in soccer, hockey, Lacrosse, or any other field sport with a goal and that's to NEVER meet a keeper directly in open field because he is usually the toughest and strongest guy on the other team. Flagrant foul or not, this will happen 99.9% of the time. Ever see a goalie fight a position player in hockey? The winger or whoever the hell it was usually loses.

      statto74 actually he didn’t take his arm up as it was already up if the player would have gone for the ball he wouldn’t have been injured. And yes you’re right you can’t hit after another player but it wouldn’t have been a penalty because there were no contact at all. The ref didn’t loose control he just didn’t see everything, yes a ref does need special training but at this stage he hasn’t received professional training and isn’t even close to becoming a pro ref.

    My thoughts, having watched this multiple times, including one time watching frame by frame:
    First clip: The ball was three yards away then the white player made the challenge, making no contact with the ball and running into the keeper. The keeper's elbow was not raised, nor did it make any movement towards the white player. This is a yellow card for white at the least, possibly red, due to the extreme lateness of the challenge. Had the keeper gone down, a professional referee would've likely shown red.
    Second clip: It appears that the keeper made a movement towards the face of the opposing player with no contact. A yellow card would be correct here.
    Third clip: White should be cautioned for a needless push on the yellow player after the ball is out of play.
    On the foul, yellow makes contact with the ball almost simultaneously with white (possibly even just before), but comes through the back. The nature of the challenge was not deserving of a red. A yellow card could be given. The white player here clearly feigns injury. Almost immediately after the challenge, he attempts to kick out at the yellow player with his 'injured' foot and then flails it around, even kicking the ground, something he would clearly not do were he really injured.
    The same white player from before comes from 15 yards out and pushes the yellow player for the second time in a situation where play is stopped. This should be a second caution or a straight red.
    The ref really did lose control of that match. He allowed the parents to issue that red card.
