Oils have really changed the game on my painting journey. Really appreciate videos like this that show more appreciation for oils in our hobby!
@@LeonValenti it’s great fun glad you’re enjoying it homie
Very nice video
Thank you!
I agree about investing in artist grade oil paints. I actually find the expensive brands like Old Holland or Michael Harding much easier to use because of their high amount of pigment and how easy they are to dilute to the concistency I desire. They are also more forgiving when you stipple them on the miniatures.
I really loved this video. Thank you! I started my oil journey a little while ago, but wasn't able to continue. This is definitely a good push to get back into it. Looking forward to the next instalments!
as a fellow oil enjoyer I can sat that it is a really good explanation of oil painting!
This is great, I've started using oils for a pin wash but this video helped me gain knowledge on wet blending
I love that you are back to making videos! Out of curiosity, you say that we should use the fat over thin method. There is another oil painting youtuber, Mended Brush Studios, who says that it is possible to paint thick over thin and thin over thick. In the videos it looks like it works, and while I've tried it, I am not good at painting and I can't use my lack of skill as a basis for this technique. Do you think that we should stay away from this until we learn more of the basics? Have you heard of/tried this method?
Thank you again for the video(s), I really do love painting with oils and your videos help to inspire me to do more painting!
Mended Brush utilised the same method as James Wappel. It’s a technique that I don’t really like the finish off so I’ve tended not to use it. Think of this technique as a blend between traditional acrylic layering and Dmitri Fescheko.
So I recommend using this technique more especially if you’re going towards display level painting one day
The thick of thin rules will still apply when using thinner layers to build opacity or to create texture.
Thank you. I'm about to start my oil journey.
That’s awesome dude! It’s a beautiful road of learning
Great video! Starting my oil painting journey and this video is a great resource! The explanation of student grade versus artist grade is particularly useful!
Awesome, glad it helped dude, seems to be topics people skip out!
I use acrylics for details over oils with no problem....
Nice, great way to get to know oils and your style!
Thank you dude thanks for continuing to support me :D
Great video as usual! Can't wait to see what is next!
Much more to come! Be sure to check out the Patreon for staying up to date
Would love to learn more about water mix able oils and miniature painting. I want to get into oils but have extremely young children, water mixable oils seems like the perfect choice. Not much content on it though. Are there big differences between water mixable and classic oils?
You’re not the first person who’s asked about it! I’d be more than happy to cover that if you’d find it helpful
@@omegonedge completely would find it helpful
Please do 😊
Threw away all acrylic paint after I stared getting down with oils.
