      Yep, I agree, that's why I keep making my videos. Recently, it's all been about going viral and making short format content but I still believe that classical tutorials will be valuable many years from now. It doesn't get as many views but it's always useful.

    5:18, I was kinda intimidated by oil painting despite being a reasonable passable artist in a lot of fields, but this really helped me understand the basics of it. I did/ do a lot of charcoal, and one of the most valuable things I ever figured out that helped elevate my charcoal works from garbage to incredible was exactly this, just feathering in outlines and details. Keeps you in-line for when you move onto more complex and delicate details later on. This was legitimately what I was looking for, thank you!

    I can not tell you what a blessing it was to find transparent Crimean blue in my set of crayola acrylics. Now, I know what to do with lapis lazuli. I am going to get $ 120 worth of it a soon as I can. I think I am going to try and manage mercury sulfide to.

    Hello Florent Fargas. How are you doing? I love oil painting. I paint whit only 7 oil colours of the brand Pebeo. My oil colours are Alizarin crimson,Cadmedium yellow,ultramarine blue,intense black, the biggest tube of white that i could find,magenta,silver and gold. Magenta is my favoriete oil colour. white paint whit 24 watercolours too. I have ordered Safflower oil and Linseed oil to clean my oil paint brushes and to paint whit. I can,t stand the smell of terpentine and someone reccomendend me Safflower oil to clean my oil brushes and someone else sayed Linseed oil is perfect for oil painting😊 so i ordered 2,5 gallon of Safflower oil and 5000 ml linseed oil. Now i can paint in peace and quiet. I havent painted in a long time so i start as soon my Safflower oil and my linseed oil is arriving✌🏾👋🏾🎨😁 have a nice day Florent Fargas and happy painting to you😊👋🏾

    Oils are intimidating … and also expensive, I think that’s a more significant barrier than people realize, particularly when working on larger canvasses. I spent many a summer and winter working in the family art supply store (back before chains like Blick wiped such family stores off the map), and my aunt delighted in showing me *tiny* tubes of distinctive, discontinued, and highly sought-after oils which, in 1986, she *could’ve* sold for $800 or more, but kept under lock-and-key mostly as conversation pieces.

    Amazing video. Thank you for sharing.
    I have even bought the supplies, but I just fear the fumes, as I can paint in my living room with the garden door open but I fear that I will have to close it at some point and then the ventilation is not great, while the paint still releases fumes.
    But other than that, I just really an excuse to start, and this video might be it.

      It's normal to be cautious. I've made a video on studio safety, you can find it on my website in Education > Resources for Artists. If you stick with the main safety precautions, the two or three drops of mineral spirits you use won't be a problem, you never need that much and cleaning can be done with soap and water...

      I hope you start! Try to make a promis you will try almost every day at first because it’s extremely roller coaster ride and crazy in the beginning! At least for me. I was all,over the place using a lot of paint and big size and looking back made just about every illadvised approach I could dream up!

    Hi, question please. You mentioned mediums, but then never talked about the proper method for applying them. I struggle greatly in that regard. Do you happen to have recommendations or a video to watch?

    • @cynthiamarston2208
      @cynthiamarston2208 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I checked out his list of videos. Eventually after about 6 months of painting regularly I bought his oil painting lessons presentation. Also did his color theory. I noticed how much frustration I might have avoided if I had done so to start out however no regrets at all. I also learned by just doing it I will figure it out for myself. There is a lot of variables actually when it comes to supplies! Once I bought oil painting paper that was such a good price. It was a night mare! Somehow the paper soaked up everything wet and while painting my work would dry like that other stuff painters use sometimes. And personally after trying some mediums he taught about I ended up simply adding a little poppyseed oil because I dont like if my painting starts to dry and it will help with that and also thin certain oil paints that come out too thick for what I need it for. If you like things to dry in between layers then dont do that. You can also do what I did too. I bought every medium that sounded compatible to how I want to paint and tried them. It was actually adventurous and fun. I still have several I ended up ignoring after trying.
