Ok so if you want to see all the cinematics you have to do it by each expansion and the original game. you just watched almost all cinematics from the Battle for azeroth expansion. to take it in order you should do Original World of Warcraft cinematics, then The burning crusade expansion cinematics, then Wrath of the Lich King expansion cinematics, then Cataclysm expansion cinematics, then Mists of Pandaria expansion cinematics, then Warlords of Draenor expansion cinematics, then Legion expansion cinematics, followed by the latest expansion cinematics that you just watched from the Battle for Azeroth expansion and you can also see the trailer for the upcoming expansion called Shadowlands.

You want so quick history. To make it short, Sylvannas was once an elf slain by a human Death Knight and turned into a Banshee as she was losing hope seeing her people, she was defending, being slaughter around her. Eventually, she recover her freedom, but only hatred remain in this lady's heart. We don't know as of yet her plan, but she seems to have played everyone for some nefarious plan we will discover in the upcoming expansion of Shadowland where she rips open a rift between the afterlife and the living world.
As for the sick sword you saw and since it is a magical world, it is one of the reason it can split. The sword name is Shalamayne and was once two twin blade (those you see when it split, but could find their name). In their split form, they were given to the father of the wielder of the sword as they were split in two by magic. But magic fuse them back together and made the blade. The father of the young man (would you guess is only 18 yo?) died fighting a demon invasion and thus he inherited the blade. The orb you see is actually holy light infused within Shalamayne as the boy is a wielder of the Holy Light, a priest (which explain the bubble of light he call to heal and protect his subject).
Finally, the guy, who doesn't want to lead the Horde no more, goes by the name of Go'El or Thrall and was the founder of the Horde. Sylvannas was the last named warchief of the Horde and the multiple race composing it choose that from now on the band would be lead by a council of each species making the faction.
Last finally, the reason they attack the castle, in the first video, was in retaliation for the Horde went and burn the city tree of Teldrassil, because a Night Elf (bear with it, but their is more then one species of elf and Sylvannas is a High Elf), refuse to lose hope and the Banshee Queen (Sylvannas nick name), order the burning of the great tree and the entire population still within its branch. Lets say that burning the capital of one of you rival faction species attract retaliation.

Here is a link to the official playlist starting with the original cinematic trailer back from 2004. The cinematic team is considered to be one of the best in the world. "Old soldier" also is considered among the community to be the most nuanced and unique cinematic of them all. I would consider doing a "react to all of them" style video. Love your work btw!

@John Arch First of all I am not a she, second yes she did kill a lot of civilians which was horrible but it was necessery to save the universe. Death is broken, that we know, and Sylvanas is trying to help fix it and regain its rightful place by feeding it. You are making the mistake countless others do by comparing her actions to what they would mean if WoW was real life....but its not. In WoW you have Gods that can influence things, you have the cycle of Life and Death that can break and go out of sync and when that happens, someone needs to balance it again, to make the hard decisions others are not able to make, and that one is Sylvanas. And while its a meme to say it, that is what makes her morally grey, some people will understand that what she did, although horrible, was necessery and others will just not be able to forgive her no matter what her reasons were because she burned their city, she might have helped save the cosmos but to do that she burned someones capital and someones family and for that many will hate her and understandably so. THAT is what makes her story so good in BFA and probably SL and its a shame only a fraction of the playerbase sees that because everybody is treating WoW like its real life and applying those rules to it.

@@tzoanast1061 Sylvanas helped break death. She has a deal with the jailer who is the one benefiting from death being broken. She went from being an amoral character with an understandable sense of self preservation to a cartoonish villian who just does things cause its all part of a "bigger plan". She used to have cool shades of grey, but the horrible writing of bfa, and some of the setup in legion has gotten rid of all of that.

@@absolix730 We have no proof of her helping to break Death, yes Bolvar says the veil between the Shadowlands and Azeroth screams because of her but that's because she shattered it. The Jailer is gonna turn out to be a neutral or good guy that much is obvious. No she is not a cartoonish villain, you just can't understand that killing a lot of people doesn't necessarily make you an evil person in WoW, please understand that. It's obvious from the start that she has some sort of bigger plan that's gonna redeem her actions, I don't think anybody expects Blizz to make her an actual villain, so with that in mind, in my opinion, that's what's going to happen, we're gonna learn that Death didn't break because of her or the Jailer but because of something else and that they've been helping to rebalance Death to it's proper place.

she used to be good, but somewhere around cataclysm she started going off the deep end. some speculation that it was sooner. i wouldn't be overly shocked if the exact turning point was her second death at ICC, impaled on Saronite. which has been noted to cause literally mindless ghouls to go insane. the old gods also had vessels in close proximity to her seat of power (mountains just north of undercity) that could have influenced her. i wouldn't be shocked if we had to kill her, but i really hope we dont have to.

He completely missed the sheer impact at 17:04 - "The Horde is nothing!" - Music becomes very muted, the accompanying guard makes that uncomfortable glance towards her, and Sylvanas looks around as if she knows she messed up. Almost sad when it contrasts so starkly to the prior trailer where she seems fully on board with the Horde, her entire entrance to the battlefield felt so much like she couldn't just sit and watch her people die, and all of a sudden, she seems like she doesn't care about any of them at all.
    That moment really hit hard.

If you have seen the movie, the Mak'gora in the movie gave Lothar his honor when he killed (cant remeber who) in a Mak'gora. Ehhh... I kind of agree...sorta. The horde has always been a far lot more "evil" in the things they've done. At least as an organization. Yes, I know the Orcs were possessed of Mannaroth's blood. But they continually end up being ruled by "Might Makes Right" sorts of Leaders, They were the pure aggressors in WC1 and 2, they were the victims of WC3, i'd say, the Alliance especially after the Disappearance of Varian Wrynn did take a sort of Dark Turn, then again...who could blame them. The whole Blood Elves thing never sat right with me though, it made absolutely zero sense why the alliance would suddenly be racist to the one race that they'd be allied with for centuries if not millenia.
But Garrosh's War Crimes, and then Sylvanis's genocide of the Night Elves weighs a lot more than Jaina's temporary lapse in sanity.

But graphic engines tools are developing, so developing cinematic should become cheaper over time, so maybe, one day... but we are still far from that. But actually I love how blizzard actually good in this staff. And they are actually one of the few studios who is good in it. So to lay down some backstory here.
"She" Sylvanas was initial the Ranger general of Quel'Thalas(an acient elven kingdom, of arguably the most powerful magic users in the world). By their near immortal standards she was considered to be exceptionally beautifull and gifted as a ranger. As a ranger general she was in charge of the entire Thalassian military, and is arguably one of the most skilled fighters "alive" on Azeroth today. Comparable perhaps only to Illidan/Tyrande and maybe the prophet Velen if he ever cuts loose. She was so effective in the defense of quel'thalas that the lich king raised her as a banshee( a tormented spirit capalbe of posessing bodies). To further torment her the lich king kept her body perserved and often near her. During the events of Frozen Throne she was one of the first to break away from his will and lead most of the undead that make up the playable characters in a rebellion against him. Even defeating Arthas in single combat. For that reason the Forsaken(a free willed faction of the undead you see in these trailers) revere Sylvanas with near godhod and saintly virtues. Now her character has had an arguable 180 in this expansion but they seem to be trying to tie it up since... Basically Sylvanass is one of the few people that actualy knows what happens to you after you die(it's in one of the short stories), and apparently it isn't pretty :)

I believe it's more complicated than that, her character has been going through emotional wringers for a few expansions now, especially with regards to her sisters (which I believe was the biggest contributing factor to her bitterness). What she experienced after Arthas died wasn't merely deception, I don't think. She had actively led the Forsaken down a dark road with the plague developments and general philosophy of leaving emotion behind, that I doubt she'd earned a peaceful rest. Once her former family ties were severed for good she began to cling to the Forsaken more tightly, which made her more angry when they used their free will to make decisions she didn't like, ie The Desolate Council and the Meeting at Stromguard. The Azerite giving her visions of herself as a Master of Life and Death certainly didn't help. Now that she's desperate to avoid death by any means necessary, which has been true since Wrath, she's been making deals left and right.

When you mentioned 'the golden hour' it reminded me of the sense of time throughout the BFA clips.
I love how the 'Old Soldier' cinematic happens just before dawn when Saurfang is at his lowest point and about to give up, giving that 'darkest before the dawn' feeling before zappy boi gives him hope again.
Then the 'BFA Cinematic Trailer' takes over at mid-day, even starting out with the camera directly over Lordaeron castle like it's high noon.
And 'Saurfang's Mak'gora' takes place at the gates of Orgrimmar at dusk as the sun sets on an old hero. And Sylvanas flies off basically saying savor these last bits of light, nothing lasts.

  • @Heidar08

So the sword with the light in it is called Shalamayne, which was originally 2 swords, Shalla'tor and Ellemayne. Anduin's (the blonde guy) father, Varian, was split into two beings by the magic of an evil dragon. Each self of Varian received one of the blades. When Varian became whole again, the two swords became one (Shalamayne).
Varian had the ability to split Shalamayne into their two selves. There's not really a clear reason that I know of as to why others can do it, so I liken it a lot to Thor's hammer, where a worthy warrior can use the blades [speculation].

      @LadyVixenGames 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

it is exactly like thors hammer only the ones worthy and have the honor can split it..anyone can wield but only the one's worthy can use it's powers which was not many. i'd say it's mostly because if you played the game it was once explained the person worthy had to have traits such as being honorable on his/her words and pretty much anything he/she does meaning executing people would be considered a dishonor , in sense the wielder needs to be a great/good person and not someone like others in the past.
varian being the main one cause he kept his end of the deal , did not backstab the horde or anyone . i'm pretty positive thrall could wield it as him and varian are 100% alike just like varian's son. trying to make a peace .

To answer some of your lore questions:
    - The badass chick is Sylvanas Windrunner, a former elf and reagent general of her people, was killed and resurrected as a banshee (her banshee form is shown when she screams and kills a whole bunch of soldiers) and is now the leader of the undead race (part of the Horde). She is a master tactician and fighter and is not bound by common morality. The ends justifies the means.
    - The human king is Anduin Wrynn (aka the boy king), leader of the humans (part of the Alliance) recently took the mantle of king after his father died (Varian Wrynn, a very powerful warrior). He is a priest and you can see him using a priest ability called Mass Resurrection to revive his army at 5:00 and is inexperienced in leadership and his advisor (Genn Greymane, the wolf you see at his side) tries to influence the king's decisions.
    - The Horde is a faction composed of the following races: Orcs, Undead, Trolls, Taurens, Blood Elves, Goblins and Pandarens (neutral race that could be part of either faction)
    - The Alliance is a faction composed of the following races: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Worgen and Pandarens (neutral race that could be part of either faction)
    - The Horde and the Alliance, the two playable factions, are in a perpetual war over the planet of Azeroth, but occasionally join forces to defeat a common global threat.
    - There are no "bad" guys within the factions, it is just a matter of perspective.
    - The sword that split in two is called Shalamayne which is a two handed sword that can be split into two one handed swords. Shalamayne belonged to former King Varian Wrynn and is a symbol of heroism for the Alliance.

@@ChrisConnorFilms Now, this might be a long one, and many people might not think like me, but here are the stories
Sylvanas (the screamy lady), Warchief of The Horde (Red side), attack the Night Elves' capital city of Darnassus (Purple Elf), in order to start her plans of destroying The Alliance(Blue side). At that war, she ends up burning the world tree Teldrassil, where Darnassus is located under the tree. This leads to the Battle of Lordaeron (first video), where The Alliance seeks to take back the city of Lordaeron (where the Undercity, the Undead capital city is located), which was the Alliance territory long ago. They end up winning that battle, but Sylvanas cover the entire city with The Blight (a chemical weapon which the undead use a lot).
But in these events, Varok Saurfang (old Orc in spiky red armor) who is probably the oldest orc warrior who is respected from both sides, did not approve in her actions, consider it honorless. Before the battle began ( in the Old Soldiers video th-cam.com/video/aW_h0qf9vpA/w-d-xo.html ) Varok decides to just rush into battle to finally end his own life in battle (as he long for so long and consider an honorable death for an orc) but was stopped by the young Troll (aka Zappy Boi). He ends up getting captured during the Battle of Lordaeron. But the King Anduin of the alliance (boy king) knew that Varok held back during their fights (of he don't he could probably kill him). Anduin goes to ask Varok in the prison on why he did that. Varok said that he hopes that Anduin could stop Sylvanas from dragging The Horde that he fights for all his life to ruin. Anduin said he can't but he let him go because they gonna do it together.
Forward to "Safe Haven", Varok visit Outland, where Thrall, Former Warchief of The Horde (aka green Jesus) retire and lives with his family, to ask him to help him save The Horde. While they are talking, 2 undead assassins (and probably the most terrible rogue ever) tries to assassinate both of them but fail. Varok said that he follows them to here, that might mean Sylvanas send them to kill Thrall and said that people like them don't get to hide. Thrall decides to help him take back The Horde.
In the final video, Thrall and Varok rallied members of The Horde who thinks like him, along with Anduin and part of The Alliance, to attack Orgrimmar (The Horde capital city). Before the fight begins, Varok doesn't want to spill The Horde's blood, even if they are loyal to Sylvanas. He decides to challenge Sylvanas for "Mak'gora" (a due to the death in Orc culture), in which Sylvanas accept. Varok knew that he has no chance to win this fight, but just want to expose what Sylvanas thinks of The Horde, which is no more than an arrow in her quiver, a tool for her to use. He succeeds but at the cost of his life. Sylvanas then flies away (see more on th-cam.com/video/s4gBChg6AII/w-d-xo.html) and Varok's body then got carried into the city to honor him.
I might be wrong in someplace, but here are my attempt to summarizing the story.

This expansion gave me a hole inside. I LOVED Sylvanas for so many years and to see them twist their character the way they did was mortifying. Playing as the character and following her story, building a relationship with who you think she is made this experience very immersive and all the harder to believe. We will see what they do with her in Shadowlands but I am still so conflicted with the state of the Horde right now. Seeing these all in order gives me the feels. They were able to capture the story without needing to give everything that is happening in the quest line for context.

Her "Heroic" arc if you can call it that ended with Arthas' fall. She got her revenge and tried to end her existance. Whatever she saw there screwed with her, made her afraid of what comes after death and she started fighting from that moment. She's been a villain the entire time anyway, even before Arthas. You think the Plague used as Northrend was the action of a traitor? No, the only betrayal was him using it without her permission. She knew about it, she designed it.

    @dredgenauryx3382 4 ปีที่แล้ว +45

This did not have old soldiers which tells backstory on high overlord Varok Saurfang (the main orc)...
The Villain of these is not actually considered an elf anymore , she is Sylvanas Windrunner former Ranger general of Silvermoon of the high elven capital city of silvermoon... During its defense against the tragically fallen prince of Loderon Arthas and his undead armies Sylvanas resisted till her last breath and in the end she did fall... But Sylvanas had caused too much pain for Arthas to allow her a peaceful death... Arthas used the power of the dark blade that stole his soul to bring Sylvanas back as a banshee and used her to slaughter her people...
There are many interesting stories in World of Warcraft from Arthas Menethil and his journey into the Lich King (Trailer Wrath of Lich King I Recommend you check it out and follow it with Remastered Wrath Gate, and Remastered Fall of the Lich King leading into WoW Shadow lands trailer)...
You should also check out the Warbringers and Harbingers trilogies which give background info on some of WoW characters (Sylvanas has a Warbringer which shows what lead to battle of Loderon which was the first video you reacted and contains a flashback to Sylvanases past Go ahead and check that out)
You should also react to just basically anything Blizzard has ever touched in game cinematics and trailers alike...
Blizzard really knows what they are doing when it becomes to writing and cinematics...
but as of now my recommendations in order are:
-WoW Wrath of the Lich King Trailer
    -Wrath Gate Remastered
-Fall of the Lich King Remastered (preferably watch these remastered ones together)
    -WoW Shadow Lands Trailer
    -Harbingers Trilogy
    -WoW Legion Trailer
    - Legion in game cinematics (I cant remember them by name but I am sure someone else can tell you the important ones)
-Warbringers Trilogy (the Warbringers contain story relevant to the Battle for Azeroth aka the expansion where the cinematics of this video came from)
and those were the important ones from WoW that came to mind that you should see. There are a metric ton more cool shit from Blizzard with rest of the wow cinematics, Overwatch, and Starcraft 2...
I hope I helped and that you enjoy the worlds and stories Blizzard has created for us... If you have any questions about wow lore you can always ask me or go to the channel nobel87 (I am not 100% sure on the number in his channels name but whatever)...

The beginning where Sylvanas goes wraith when they are loosing, I don't actually think it is defined as much by its visual effects, but more by the sound. The fact that the music abruptly stops and you hear this eerie scream is so powerful that one doesn't need all the visuals. The red eyes, a change in skin color and maybe some distortion would really be enough to drive the point home.
I always love these moments because of how powerful it is and it almost always signifies a major change in the story. For this exact reason it should also not be used too much. One time per movie is enough (twice in very limited circumstances for related events in the start and later parts of the movie). More than that and it will undercut that dramatic moment and actually make it much less impactful.

As far as watch order is concerned, the video titled "Varok Saurfang's Mak'gora" has them in chronological order. All of those events take place over the course of the Battle for Azeroth expansion, with Old Soldier taking place in the hours before dawn on the day of the huge battle in the main cinematic for the expansion.
Sylvanas is undead, and she leads the Forsaken, one of the factions within the Horde. She was made Warchief at the start of the previous expansion. She started a massive campaign against the alliance, and her decisions in that campaign led to dissent within the ranks, which is mostly represented by Varok Saurfang, the grey-haired orc that is featured in all of those cinematics. The fortress in the last cinematic is Orgrimmar, the seat of power for the Horde. Varok has spent most of his life defending that city, which is why he's reluctant to start an all-out battle which would kill thousands of his own people on both sides.
The black-haired orc that he met on the farm is Thrall, a long-standing character who was Warchief up until the end of Mists of Pandaria. They're not family, but Thrall is about the same age as Varok's son would be and their relationship has evolved from mentor/mentee to nearly father/son. Varok's son was corrupted by the Lich King and dies during that expansion, which you see a flashback to in the Old Soldier cinematic (the dead orc that he takes that bone necklace from).
Anduin is the human king of the Alliance. He is probably my favorite character after Varok right now.
The big takeaway from the last cinematic though, is when Sylvanas says, "The Horde is *nothing*. You are ALL nothing!". The Forsaken bannerman behind her gives a confused glance. Sylvanas does her little gloating thing, knowing she's played her last card. The small part of the Horde that's still loyal to her up to this point realizes that she's been toying with everyone the whole time, and the reasoning behind it is spelled out in the Shadowlands introductory material. Basically, she serves a greater power whose only goal was to break down the process of life and death itself. She heads straight to Northrend from here, to the other cinematic starring Sylvanas that you watched in the Lich King episode where she kicks his ass and opens a rift above the frozen throne.

That's a very basic and short version of her backstory, but it is correct. Only some things to add: She was resurrected by the Lichking (who she was fighting) to serve him as a banshee. She was mindcontrolled by him but when the Lichking was defeated she fell from his tower landing on a metal spike and died again. In the Shadowlands (the realms of death) she made a pact and got resurrected again. From then on the lead the forsaken (undead humans mostly, who are on the side of the horde). At the begining she tried to protect the living. At least it seemed that way, but she has the goal to extinguish all life so everyone can "live" peacefully in the deathrealms.

Imma try to keep it simple as my last comment, hope you'll see this one too.
The "Elf chick" is Called Sylvanas. As i explained to you on your other video, she got killed by the Lich King and then raised back to life. She managed to break from his will (she was submitted, just as all other undeads he raises). I'm not gonna explain everything but her and her Forsaken (the undeads who are not submitted to the Lich King anymoire) joined the Horde, and at some point she became the Warchief (so basically the Chief of everyone in the Horde, like, she's THE BIG GUY).
As you guessed there's two factions in Warcraft, Horde and Alliance, who have (basically) always been in war.
The thing is she did some pretty fucked up things (as i said i'm not gonna get into details) and became crazier and meaner little by little. So that's why the Orc (Saurfang) teamed up with the Human (Anduin), who's the king of the Alliance, to defeat her. But she still had the Horde with her, at least a part of it. But others followed Saurfang to take her down. That's why at the end, when he says "we bring him back home" (btw the guy who says that, Thrall, is a crazyly important character), they just go from where she came out. Because the city, Orgrimmar, is the Horde capital. so she was in it as the Horde Warchief, but it's still Home to these Orcs who are fighting her. And that's also why the phrase "The Horde is Nothing !" is like SUPER important, and why her soldier behind her looks at her that way, and why Saurfang almost smiles and just rushes in like that. He knows she just lost the Horde with this phrase.
Hope i helped, do not hesitate to DM me if you'd like to have some things on Warcraft lore explained to you or stuff like that. :)
I'm not at all into VFX but i really like your videos, keep going ! And i'm so much a fan of Warcraft that any pretext to watch the cinematics are good for me. I litteraly get chills and my heart going crazy everytime i watch them.

Oh brother, you have no idea just how big this game is, and the lore within it - incredible story telling! Loads of great cinematic in each expansion too.

First of all great reaction my dude. You nailed it and your excitement was more genuine than most of the warcraft channels out there.
Speaking of which, there is this guy Taliesin, who studied filmmaking and does one of if not the best explaining of the craft of these videos. He truly is the best.
PS: You really REALLY should have reacted to old soldier and warbringers: Sylvanas videos, to get some background.
    Stay strong! 💪😁👍

The cgi trailers for The Elder Scrolls: Online might be interisting as well. Impressive in their own right, crazy settings, stunts and visual effects. Keep these going! Very cool stuff and very insightful.

You need to check out the "Burdens of Shaohao," "Lords of War," "Harbingers," and "Warbringers" on the World of Warcraft youtube channel. They are a different animation style, but they are something I think you will find interesting. I've played World of Warcraft since 2007 and then they first starting making these in 2014, it really gets you into the lore of the characters you met along the way through the different expansions.

    Great video!
If you are curious about the backstory. Basicly the World of Warcraft universe is build up on the war against the Horde (orc, undead, tauren etc) vs the Alliance (human, dwarfs, gnomes etc).
Sylvanas is/was a part of the horde, and after another leader of the horde's death, became the leader of the horde. But, to compare it to real world she turned the Horde in to a dicatorship - and went against the core principles of the Horde (which is fighting with honor). There is a lot more story behind her - but basicly she became a enemy of everyone. But due to her dictatorship, she had control over all the horde forces.
The Alliance and part of the Horde then gathered up and turned on her - which is what you see in the cinematics. The last cinematic ends with her saying that the entire horde is "nothing". And her army realizes that she is just using them, and has no love for the Horde.
The final scene is the guards of Sylvanas letting the main characters in to the main town of the Horde (because they realized Sylvanas is the real bad guy, and the Horde lost its core cus of her)
(A lot a lot a lot more story is behind Sylvanas her self, but that is for a completely different explanation)
Hope this wasn't too confusing of a description - but the universe is huge, and a lot of back story and main story is missing from these cinematics, but hope you get a better idea of it!

Ok im really getting to love you channel. It's awesome getting to see the perspective from someone who works in the industry showing how much work this takes. Us as players have a tendency to take for granted the amount of work involved in the game. Even in the cinematics sometimes. You bringing out the level of detail put into these is just awesome!
The bubble that Anduin is creating is actually a "Mass Resurrection" spell. Essentially everyone that has died that is within range he brought back to life.
Shalamayne, the sword with he orb effect, was the weapon of the previous King of Stormwind Varian Wyrnn. He died saving the last stand of the Alliance Army in the previous expansion from The Burning Legion. Essentially Hell's army, if you will. The sword has a conscious presence itself and can split in two if the sword decides that the wielder is worth of its power. In a nutshell.

Hi Chris, it's nice to meet you. I have been playing World of Warcraft for 16 years. My absolute favourite expansion was Wrath of the Lich King. The storyline for the Death Knight from start to finish is very interesting to me, and they were very awesome to play. In your presentation, my favourite is the Mak' Grah sequence where we see Sylvannis has a new power when she kills Saurfang

If you're at all interested about the characters and the surrounding lore of the world they exist in, I'd highly recommend Nobbel87. He's a TH-camr that goes in-depth about the stories about individual characters, but also much larger subjects as well, such as the creation of the Warcraft universe!

Something to know about world of warcraft. Players take up the mantle of either the horde or the alliance. Some few play both factions but usually most choose a side and stick with it. This is why you keep seeing the perspectives shift from side to side. The elf lady archer in the first segment is Sylvanas Windrunner, originally a night elf who was slain and raised by Arthas Menethil as a banshi for the undead army of the scourge. After breaking Arthas' domination she and many of the scourge formed a new race known as the forsaken, who form one part of the Horde. The blonde man in armor head to toe is Anduin Wrynn. He was originally a priest but changed his class to paladin around the time of his father's death. The part where you thought he broke his sword was a depiction of one of the early abilities paladins were able to use. However, when he plants his sword and raises the golden shield that was healing everyone, that was a throwback to his days as a priest.
These cinematics are designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia in the viewers who have been long time players of the game. The orc who faced off with Sylvanas in front of the gates of Orgrimmar was Saurfang. And the orc he met with and helped against the assassins is Thrall. It has been revealed that Sylvanas will be one of the big bads in the next expansion called shadowlands. Her actions in Battle for Azeroth were designed specifically to cause as much death and destruction as possible to both sides of the conflict.
Something to remember as well, or to know about the history of warcraft is that World of Warcraft was preceded by three real time strategy games under the warcraft name. So there is a very long and rich history that has gone into this title.
As far as the order of cinematics to watch, I'd say start with the original warcraft games. Keep in mind that these date back to around 1994 so the fidelity and quality won't live up to what they can do today. But you can see from the very beginning the level of attention to detail this company has put into all of their endeavours. Following that Start with the vanilla game, then burning crusade, the wrath of the lich king, (Arthas Menethil), cataclysm, the mists of pandaria, the warlords of draenor, legion, and then up to the point where you've reviewed today Battle for Azeroth. Also of note there is an epic introduction cinematic to shadowlands where you'll get to see the elf chick kick butt once again.

@Radamenti Except most of the teams are the same as before.. Only the communities have moved on, some of the leaders did but those below them simply got promoted who have also been there for decades. The issue is what they are told to do, the Developers are fucking amazing but are not the deciders on everything we get no matter how they want.

Bro they always made better animation and cinematics than their games.
This has been the case even when their games were epic. Diablo 2? The cinematics were absolutely the best you could ever find in gaming at the time. Same with Wc3. And those were awesome games.
