Why Masculinity is NOT TOXIC: Divine Masculine vs Shadow Masculine | Aubrey Marcus Podcast

  • While men can be toxic, masculinity itself is not toxic. In this podcast we dive into the Masculine Archetype, which is present in all genders. In order to understand masculine energy, we must comprehend the full spectrum of this archetype, ranging from it’s dark shadow to its highest, divine expression. So much of what is touted today as “toxic masculinity” misrepresents the totality and potential of masculine energy.
    At the end of the podcast Godsey mentioned The Dharma Journal, a project that he has been working on for six months and fundamentally believes it will help you discover your Dharma, remember your life’s purpose and build a system that will keep you in daily alignment. I just talked about sacred masculinity and feminine yesterday with my girlfriend. I got struck by some my shadows while walking today and I just started to cry. Like, bawling my eyes out.. Out in public.. Standing alone with a small, fuzzy dog.
    And I didn't mind. Because, I saw how I've been holding and limiting me and my partner, by not showing up. And I felt it. Used it. Told her my pain.
    It's the first time, in a long time.. I've shown up for me and her. And this sacred talk, just, fucking helps.
    Thanks dudes - it's awesome to be a flie on the walk. I'm grateful, thank you.

    Around 55 min Erick talks about the micro-glances at women. My intuitions about that through psilocybin have been that you must not lust after them but be the beholder of beauty. Observe with no aggression or possessive intent, but be the Creator beholding the beauty of itself in that feminine form. This is a departure from the shadow masculine. The sacred masculine is the beholder of beauty and the desirer of that experience and the sacred feminine is the object of beauty and the one who invites the desire of witness and affords the experience of beauty in this moment of micro-glancing.

    I have to thank you gentlemen. My previous life had made me so afraid of men, especially those who looked like you three strapping men. I use to weigh nearly 600 pounds and I was not treated very well by the opposite sex most of my life. I am now healing my body, and mind and you just helped me to heal a major piece of my soul, my fear of men and surety in my dislike for them in the majority. My appreciation knows no bounds. Namaste. Much love 💕💕🙏.

    Female here, starting at 1:03:10 is EXACTLY the realization I had these past 3 weeks. Beyond the Christian idolizing of virginity, there is something in waiting for that divine partner or partners. Tapping into our intuition and knowing when it's safe to "open" up. That marriage is not always a safe container to open up in; that their is a dance between the divine masculine and feminine manifest 3d and within. That waiting has less to do with "saving one's self" but deeply listening within and deciding, enthusiastically "yes, now we do. I feel ready to receive you."
    This is quite the talk ☺️

    I really enjoyed Eric talking about his ayahuasca lesson about the trauma in the Feminine. He hit straight on the target, something we talk about in the kink community a lot. Consensual objectification, even consensual violence or degradation -- these things are deliciously arousing and totally okay. But non-consensual objectification is quite dangerous, both spiritually and physically. It's the doorway to rape, just as Aubrey pointed to. In the scene, we'd call this non-consensual objectifying something like "involving a stranger in your kink."

    • @elaxel1469
      @elaxel1469 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's very interesting what you say. How the "kink community" interpret a domination fetish for example? Is it related to traumas or just the pleasure of giving up control?

    • @qs1066
      @qs1066 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elaxel1469 well, the desire or need to be dominated doesn't necessarily have a root cause. Sometimes it's just the way a person is.

    I am discovering my feminine energy right now, which brings me confidence and assurance, but at the same time I feel that my masculine energy is despised. I get often angry, and this anger, I often swallow it, it bubbles up inside. This comes from the society that says "the one who gets angry is the bad one", and that also says "shut your mouth and be good". When I connect to my feminine energy I can calm this anger, however on the other hand, this anger is not only due to the ego, there is some truth to it! So I feel like this anger it's misunderstood masculine energy. Thank you for making this rare content to help me understand !

My jaw dropped from 0:55 to 1:13 with the discussion of sexual trauma and the role of porn - found myself wishing an entire 2 hrs could be devoted to that. Healing in the area of prior sexual conditioning and thought patterns is extremely critical. Keep digging deeper to get at the root of the problem of the 'toxic' behavior, both male and female. What came to Erick through his ayahuasca journey begs to be thoroughly explored in all of its nuances!

    Yes, this video applies to both men, and women. The balance of divine masculine and feminine within us is so important. Jung himself spoke of archetypes and the shadow. The shadow part that we carry around but rarely look at. When light shines we see our shadow. Integrating the parts of us into the sum. In my work as a Psychotherapist, I see many people troubled, influenced and still living by their pasts. Male or female, we have been brainwashed/conditioned to act in certain ways. In reality, we are souls in a body. What will it take to heal our generational traumas and allow our ‘self’ to ‘be’? The very things we so easily give others- kindness, compassion, love and empathy, we need to give our self. We all have emotions- it’s what makes us humans. It’s time for us all to allow our self our truth both individually, and collectively.
    Be the kind in your humankind. I wish everyone here hope, healing and love 💜

    Masculinity as advertised by our culture can be very toxic, though it is perfectly possible to be masculine in a healthy way.
    I think Terence McKenna was in to something when he suggested that psychedelic mushrooms helped our hominid ancestors break away from primate male dominance patterns of behavior.
    Take a manly guy and give him a point or two of molly, and he's not going to suddenly become feminine, but he surely is gonna be a lot more open to empathy and emotion and behave lovingly towards people.
    I would say having a pharmacological solution to toxic traits is part of the solution. Part of it is also just having an awareness and commonly held recognition of what exactly is toxic in many men's behavior, in what ways and then making the concious decision to be masculine in a way that doesn't incorporate those toxic traits.

    I hear you Aubrey, let's not turn away, let's REALLY look... as much as women have been supressed, the feminine NEVER went away. The feminine always has had power, but because it was supressed, it came out in really covert ways... women, me, I'm not a victim of the suppression of females. And I feel this is an aspect that is being dramatically missed, is how much the shadow feminine has hurt men in an equal way that male has hurt female... When I worked at a strip club at 19 years old, I learned alot. One of the biggest things I saw was not women getting degraded, yes it happened but the vast majority of degradation was women doing it to men. A high amount of men that go into a strip club are men that are so disconnected from the feminine, they don't know where else to go to find this energy. Many of them actually believe these women truly like them and that they have a chance being with them.. look at the animal kingdom, females are predators just like the males... many females see these men in the strip club as prey. They know exactly how to pull what they want out of them and suck them dry. And what do we do as a society? We turn the other way, "if a man is dumb enough to fall for that they deserve it". I've heard that alot. How fucking degrading is that to men. Do you know how many men go into the strip club just to talk to women? It's probably alot more than most people realize... And that's not the full story. I've heard that strip clubs are full of healers. This resonates so deeply with me. Working there brought SO much healing to me.
    Another point I want to bring attention to is the me too movement. As someone who has experienced traumatic sexual abuse, the me too movement really pissed me off for some reason. I see it helped some alot... AND what I came to realize was one, how many men had a me too and didn't feel like they could bring that to the surface. So much has been focuses on men abusing women, yet in, most, if not all the women I've talked to about sexual abuse, the way family members dealt with it was way more traumatic than the actual abuse by the man. Yes me too is a good starting point, but at what point are we ready to really pull off the sheets and look in the direction of how the "good" people have hurt us just as much as the people we label as abuser. I think there are steps. First feel the pain. And many people are still in that step... whose ready to feel the pain of being the abuser? Whose ready to see how that victim covertly spewed their pain in horrifically tormenting ways that cause just as much destruction as the originally abuse, sometimes more... I think it takes taking off demonization of what's happened and FULLY feeling pain without the blame and being able to go into how much pain the abuser has felt. And from being able to look at my own abuse, it's fucking brtually painful to rip off that bandaid. Especially in a culture that to some extent idolizes the victim and will cut you up and spit you out if you have done the abuse. 🎉

      In all honesty, that was the one part that jolted me, and I had to stop taking every word they said as instructions. Then they discussed divine choice. We get to choose not to be intimate in that way with anyone. What they choose is for them. I appreciate your honesty, and being the only one to speak on it.

    Investigating Micro judgements towards other and putting the shadow in its place is such a great tool to develop as a man. Especially towards women (& the feminine)A great resource for developing your emotional intelligence is "The Sacred Seven" by Andrew Dale Ecker. Very affordable for all, read his book take the workshop. Earth based wisdom that the aubrey marcus business machine ought to bring into his circle (oh brother where are tho?). Thank you for having this conversation guys!

    Can we take a second to also talk about the fact that I haven't heard an "um" or 'uhhh' or 'err' or anything like that? (outside of maybe one) There were plenty of pauses, moments where I expected it, but no. I'm sure it's probably a conscious thing, but I believe it also speaks to the confidence of their knowledge of self and how to navigate the world, even when they make mistakes.
    I know it's a small observation out of a 2 hour session of so many huge wonderful revelations, but the lack of spoken self-doubt represented by placeholders like uhh or umm just communicates to the listener that there's something worth listening to.
    Anyway. Thanks for this! Got a new subscriber.

    I am appreciating these discussions on archetypes. You guys cuss a lot! It sounds like I am at the gym. I find it interesting that as you are discussing how hard porn is on the nervous system you are all cussing away which feels like a constant attack on the nervous system. Just my observation as I listen. Otherwise, great stuff and I am tuned in.

    • @traviscollyns5381

      I find it interesting that censorship is being suggested. Also, there is something likely vital rooted on why this would make one feel attacked. This is way beyond a gym. 🙏

    • @changeHandler
      @changeHandler 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Who is suggesting censorship? Did you read that into my thoughts? Nowhere did I say what I think Aubrey should or should not do. It is his show, and I applaud him for his work. I am only observing that, as Aubrey has mentioned before, language is magic. Language can be used to share, connect, help, and attack. For many, cussing sounds like an attack and it is hard on the nervous system, like a dog barking angrily at you every time you walk past a fence. My sense of being masculine is using language with grace, at least in the way that I see it. I think that cussing is still a bit in the shadow. That's my personal take. I suppose we could think of it like this: It would be improper to cuss in front of children or the elderly, so why then is it ok to cuss in front of each other? Don't we deserve the same thoughtfulness about what language means?
