  • I built a Trak Racer TR80 and it nearly killed me. I have now (8 months later) moved onto a GT Omega Prime, link to that at the end screen. As for the Trak Racer TR80, here's what I think everyone should be aware of before buying so that it's a much more enjoyable build experience.
    Links ahoy.

    I built the exact same rig two weekends ago. Definitely took me longer than I expected, but I too had to undo and redo some stuff. And then when it was all together, it took me another couple of hours to dial it in just right for me.
    But now that's done, and it's amazing.

    The main reason I went with a proper sim rig is because of upgrade options and how easy it makes it due to universal 8020 mods, future upgrades are much easier to plan and execute with a solid foundation, consistency in terms of everything being in the same alignment from cockpit to monitor spacing etc and lastly moving from a play seat having actual leg room without a post obstructing the centre section making heel and toe a pain in the ass without having a super odd seating and leg position hindering lap times straight from the get go

    This is a great video for anyone who is seriously interested in getting into an 8020 rig but one thing that I would like to add is that yes it may take you 4-10 hours to build yours I found that even after having my rig for 2 months I was still constantly adjusting it to make sure it fit me 100% perfectly and now I'm more comfortable than ever. Hey man. Enjoying your channel. I've been looking into these rigs as well. Just out of curiosity what made you choose this one over the TR160? How do you find the pedal tray for adjustability and rigidity?

    • @dannyleeracing
      @dannyleeracing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers man, thanks for dropping in. The pedal tray is rock solid and could probably stop a bullet, absolutely no complaints from me, it's rock solid and doesn't budge at all. Adjustability is like the rest of the rig, in theory you could have the pedal plate in any position you could possibly want, but it's not a 2-minute job so you wouldn't do it on the regular. The choice of the TR80 over the TR160 was the cost as there's about £300 difference between the two, I guess the TR160 might have even more rigidity and more capacity to mount added extras but I can't imagine it has an edge by much.

  • @Chitown388
    @Chitown388 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Gorgeous and solid! I am questioning my choice on the DOF-Reality set up. Unlike this TR, the DOF cockpit is very flimsy, even with the option of an extra brace. And worse yet, the DOF cockpit requires modifications to mount the Fanatec direct drive at a driveable angle and a comfortable distance from the seat. The DOF is really set up for one driver; it requires intensive time and complications to readjust it for another driver. And it's $3200 USD. The big upside of the DOF, however, is that it's a motion rig with 3-degree of freedom.

    As you said, some folk’s expectations are it looks easy to build, when they can’t build an Ikea (fill in the blank) - clever analogy.

    • @dannyleeracing

      I like the idea of separating the screens (which should definitely not wobble at all, not even a bit) from the main chassis (which is mounted on foam matting and does wobble as I move and shift in the seat because of that). If I had the rig on a solid floor with no matting then that wouldn't be such a big deal as the frame would be completely static.

  • @THIS---GUY
    @THIS---GUY ปีที่แล้ว

    Perfect video.
    I noticed your wheel stand isn't reinforced beyond the two double profile 8020 pieces bolted to the bottom of the frame.
    Is it unnecessary to reinforce this? My rig has both sides reinforced with 2 double 8020 peices on a single 8020 at the corner. I've seen some with one side reinforced.
    I'd much rather use these reinforcing pieces to build a TV stand mounted directly on the rig but worry about losing rigidity.

    • @dannyleeracing
      @dannyleeracing  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to mount a TV stand directly onto the upright sections then you will certainly want to reinforce them, if for no other reason than your peace of mind! Add an extra couple sections of 8020 near where the uprights meet the base and you should be OK. Also depends on how brutal your wheel base is - if you're running 15nm+ then you will be better off with a standalone monitor mount that isn't bolted to the frame.

    • @dannyleeracing
      @dannyleeracing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I took the seat sliders off because I thought they were a bit wobbly. Turns out I needed to torque the seat bolts much more than I had been doing but by that point I'd already finished so I just left them out, plus no need to move it back and forward. • @dannyleeracing
      @dannyleeracing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man - The seat rails can be situated anywhere along the horizontal width of the chassis, I can't imagine any car seat would be too wide for the chassis, and even if it was you can likely find brackets to make it happen, so I should think you'd be well accommodated. It's only if you were using the accompanied seat slider that you might be somewhat constrained with seat widths but, as I found, you can leave them out. Feel free to ask anything else and be sure to click the correct link for your region in the vid description when you do go to order

      thanks for the reply. I received the tr80 today. You were right about the project part. What a pain in the arse of a thing to put together,I’m quite handy with hands on stuff,but it was still such a pain to assemble,mainly due to the extremely unfriendly instruction manual. Shows no clear steps of how it is assembled with their google drive manual,would’ve spent 2 hours just trying to find the right length bolts was the hardest part. Took me all up around 6 hours just to assemble it. The seat rails will work with anything from 420mm maximum width to nearly maybe 10mm width & just about the same with length,it will basically fit anything that will fit a car.

    Trak racers shipping in the states is atrocious. Every box was shipped from a different shipping company. I got one box one day another box a few days later ect ect. The second box was the pedal plate and bolts, washers ect ect. Every bag was shredded and there wasn’t a single washer left in a bag. Shit happens but this is absolutely ridiculous and I’m sure I’m not alone. Can’t lie though, the pedal plate seems like it would stop a train. In that respect I gotta say the rig seems like it’ll be a beast when I put it together. I’m not worried about the time or patience needed to put it together. Right now I’m wondering how long before I lose my composure this weekend when I’m off work to tackle this just to find out I’m missing shit that is custom and not found in the local hardware store. I’ll probably go through the parts when my wife is sleeping so I can’t just walk outside and throw shit around the backyard when I realize just how incompetent the folks in shipping are and provable have been for years.

      The only reason you'd want an integrated mount is if you prefer the look of it or if you had the whole thing on wheels, or if you wanted to save a bit of money. Generally speaking it's a good idea to physically separate monitors from the chassis so that there is clear zero wobble or shock transmitted.
