    Excellent video.
    I recently bought a Boya BY-M1 DM mic, which is basically 2 lav mics attached by a cable. You that's one more idea for having 2 mics plugged in to the same Zoom H1N.
    Thank you very much for your time and effort.

    This is exactly what I've been trying to figure out. Great video! Unfortunately, I am still having trouble making up my mind. With the price of and aftermarket H4N and pair of XLR lav mics running only about $50 more than the H1 with decent 3.5 lav mics and a splitter, would it be silly to not spend the extra $50 if I'm planning on doing interviews? My main concern is audio output quality when interviewing someone with a softer voice than mine.

    • @LeboView
      @LeboView  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have really been happy with the H1. I have not regretted not buying the h4n.. as far as one voice being louder that the other, you can correct some of that with mic placement but other than that you would have to boost the quieter voice up in post production.. good luck!!

  • @PeteForsyth
    @PeteForsyth 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very cool, thanks for breaking this down. One question -- is the external mic input stereo? If so, it would be possible to use a splitter that puts one mono mic on each "talent" and record 2 separate tracks, permitting you to adjust the relative audio levels after the fact...right? (If the different speaking volumes you describe turn out to be problematic.) Just curious if this variant would work.

    • @LeboView
      @LeboView  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you could left channel one and right channel the other then split the tracks adjust the volume then add them both channels back together as mono left and right.. I would probably just buy another H1 though it's easier.. Or a multiple track Zoom (I think H4N)?

    The Y cable that you have linked is for headphone and microphone not microphone , microphone. What I'm saying is that if I plug in 2 lavs only one would work because the other end of the Y adapter is for audio output not input. Please correct me on this if you're sure.

    Would this work if you were using a phone as your recording device, and plug the splitter directly into the headphone jack? Use a voice recording app. If so, it would only cost $15 to record audio from two people. I am wanting to start a podcast, with next to no budget, and I wonder if this would be a way to make it happen?

    The only downfall I can think of it that if you use two mics for say an interview, you can't separate them in post? So if one person talking is louder than the other, so for that I'd definitely use two H1s. Very good video and good advice. Thank you :)

      My noise generated with the Rode Filmaker kit is really low..but I did have to play with cable length(longer input from rx to cam for it to be as low as it is...Im not sure why the coiled cable that came with he filmaker kit seemed to be noiser with my sony cams..even if I turned off the GPS AND WIFI, BLUETOOTH SETTING...
