Interesting. I'm not aware of that problem, but the SD card that comes with the Zoom are terrible. I would never trust that brand and use SanDisk or Transcend cards.
Thank you so much, your review helped me a lot in understanding better which recorder will be the best for me! I was almost buying the h8, but now with your review I realized that I can go with the h5 and save 150 euros :)
Great video. everything perfectly described. I bought Zoom H2N last year (+ accessory) and I am fully satisfied with the recording in the exterior. Quality stereo sound. The ability to switch microphones and characteristics or the number of tracks. I also use Zoom H2N as a USB microphone for notebook.

As someone who has 6 synthesizers, a groovebox, and a drum machine all hooked up to a non-multitrack mixer, I would gladly use up all those inputs haha. I think I'm sold on the H6.
Could you use the H6 as a mixer, say you want to mix 3 or 4 external Microphones, for a Wedding Ceremony? For example, mics into H6, line out to speaker... and USB Audio for background Music?
Which would be better for a voice record, song at home, outside interview and for the concert? Which one has the option to use both XLR and clip microphone? Which building microphone is better? Which would be better if you want to do everything with one?
The Zoom H5 checks all the boxes. It's the most versatile and when you pair it with the proper Zoom mic capsule accessory, you can do almost any style of recording.
Living in an apartment. Trying to record the upstairs neighbors wrestling matches. I can hear and feel the noise. However, when I use my iPhone it barely picks up the sound. Would any of these help to pick up that sound? And would I connect to my iPhone, iPad or MAC? Thank you. Very informative video.
I will be recording Wind and Rain and Ocean and Rivers. I also have Roland CS-10EM binaural in ear microphones and want to use the recorder with those when I am walking in nature or even cities. Which zoom audio recorder would cover those uses best while providing the best recording? Thank you so much
Zoom H1N. There isn't a big jump in quality from the H1N to the H2N, if all you are doing is recording a single voice. You might also be interested in other USB microphones for podcasting. I made a video of a few options out there: th-cam.com/video/1qjF7ENRJ0o/w-d-xo.html
@@VideoGizmology I’ve seen the vídeo and you really made a great job, it has been very usefull. For economic reasons I believe that the h1n fits with my budget and with a little work of postproduction with Audacity the H1n can give me good results. Altough my idea is use just the h1n to record my voice I have a shure lavalier mic that I can plug to the recorder and possibly get the jump of quality that I’m looking for. But, as you said in the video, the most realistic sound comes using only the h1n.
I don't know much about ASMR videos, but unless you have an ASMR microphone, the H1 won't give you the surround sound effect with it's onboard mics. Get the Zoom H2N as the cheapest way to get surround sound using onboard mics. Then you'll have to sync the audio with the iPhone X video in your video editor. If you do have an ASMR microphone, the Zoom H1 and H2N, needs a 3.5 mini jack stereo plug.
@@VideoGizmology whats better if i want to also use for recording using Roland CS-10EM Binaural Microphones, the h2n or the h4n pro? the h4n pro doesnt seem like it would fit in the pocket as nice as the h2n.
The Zoom H4 was great when it came out, but that was almost 15 years ago. Nearly everything is better now than it was then. There is too much to list. The Zoom H4 came out the same year TH-cam was invented. Think about that.
I have a Boya lapel mic and want to have a better sound for my tutorials. Currently, I was using a Yescool recorder and it's not working well with the mic and on its own, it makes weird sounds. So what device would you recommend? Was thinking h1 or h2
Can the h5 record both xlrs AND the stereo mic channels on the top when being used as a usb sound interface? On my h4n pro I have to choose between one or the other. Not both. Even though when It can so that fine when it's not being used as a usb interface. Also now that the F1 is out, how do you like that?
Great and informative review. Well done. But made me confused even more. What would be your recommendation to get for recording 4-5 ppl talking (meeting around the big table) in a office room? Is it possible recording a good quality without the need to have a separate mic for each person? Would muchly appreciate your opinion 🙏
If you are only recording your meeting for internal records that won't be published or broadcasted, then a Zoom H2N on 4-channel surround mode should do the trick. If you want to do a podcast or you are livestreaming the meeting, you'll want to mic each person up individually. In that case, you'll need a Zoom H6 with the XLR module and all the cables and mics and stands per person.
Great explanation, Can you please tell me connect to connect ZoomH1n and Boya BY M1 lav mic to my smartphone so that I can record Audio and Video in together.
I'm deciding between the H1 and H2 - journalist and do a lot of live streaming and capturing events for restreaming. Which would you recommend? Sometimes conference environments and outdoors/indoor meetings with poor audio/mics in the room.
Zoom just released a new line of recorders that might be ideal to what you are looking for. I have not tried these products yet because they were just now released, but try the Zoom M2 or M4. They are more expensive than the H1/H2, but have the latest technology in them that should last you longer in the future.
Great review. Thx. I want to record a podcast with 4 people chatting but don’t want them to have to sit in certain spots due to mic placement or worry about lapel mics etc. I want to keep their regular convos as organic as possible without distracting equipment, plus keep my work to a minimum with regards to recording. Which one of these do you think will work best for that in a quiet room? I’m an audio engineer so can remove hiss, compress the sound etc. etc. what’s your suggestion? Thanks.
If you don't mind more ambient sounding audio, the Zoom H2N would be ideal. Set the H2N in the middle of all 4 people at a table, isolate the H2N on a gorillapod or something to absorb table noise, and put it in 4 track surround mode. If your room is quiet with carpet and sound absorbing walls, you should get very decent audio. If you want more standard close audio, you'll need 4 cardioid mics, like a Shure SM7B, mic stands, etc. and then get the Zoom H6, where you can plug 4 XLR mics in with phantom power. It's more distracting equipment, but if you want good audio, there's going to be compromises.
I wouldn't use any Zoom product situations with high wind noise on a motorcycle. The mic capsules of every Zoom is way too sensitive to not only wind, but vibration. If you mount any Zoom recorder onto your motorcycle without a professional shock mounting system, all the vibrations from your movement will be recorded and most likely interfere with what you actually want to hear. Out of all the recorders in my video, the H2N would probably have the least amount of terrible audio, but that's not great. I suggest using a DJI Mic 2 or Rode Wireless Pro. Or with proper wind protection, the GoPro 12 has amazing audio quality.
Thank you for the video, very informative. Which recorder would you recommend to record sounds in nature? Zoom H2n, H4n or H5? I'd like to place my DSLR camera somewhere in nature on a tripod and record all the sounds around it. The viewer should hear everything around like he is standing there ... First I wanted to purchase the H4n but after some research I'm now tending to H2n.
The Zoom H2N is what you are looking for. You could also purchase an H5 or H6 and use it's surround sound mic attachment, which you might have to purchase separately, so check the box to make sure it comes with it.
Hi, My purpose is the record the audio from the mixer/soundboard and also will use the other channel to record the crowd for live events. Could you recommend which one? Appreciate your input
Thank you for this review. I was wondering if it was worth it upgrading from the H5 to the H6, but now I think I'll just stick with my H5 and get the attachment with the two extra XLRs.
That's a smart decision. Just remember that the extra XLR attachment doesn't have Phantom power that I know of, unless Zoom released a firmware update or something since I last checked.
Oh, it doesn't? Once again, thank you for that information! I assumed it did. That does complicate things a little bit if I want more mic inputs. I don't necessarily NEED more than two mics at a time but would certainly like the option. Any suggestions?
If you need more than 2 XLR inputs with phantom power, you must get the Zoom H6 or Zoom F4. Another alternative is to get an external XLR pre-amplifier, but by the time you get that, you might as well have purchased the H6.
Hello friend, I need some help if it is possible I am a total beginner in audio domaine, I have a Sennheiser Sennheiser MKE 40-EW and a Sennheiser MZA 900p I don't know how to use them at all, I wanted to make them function with my phone by a trrs trs adapter from rode but it seems that it does not work, I don't know if the lavalier can work with a zoom h1 if I buy one or it needs something else to work ? thank you by advance for your help :)
Which one is the best for field recordings ? Like to capture nature and sounds from the ambient.. The h2n, the h4n pro or the h5 ? I still wondering... if you could help me out I will be very glad
The Zoom H2N would be my choice for nature and ambient sound as long as you also get a furry windscreen to project the mic from heavy wind. However if you want to spend more money, you can get the H5 with a surround sound mic capsule. That should give a little better quality than the H2N on paper, but most people can't tell the difference.
I do audio podcast where I interview a guest (locally and remotely) every week. Didn’t really get much clarity on which is the best. I’m interested in the H2 though. Can I achieve my interviewing goals with the H2 and still plug in my own lav mics?
Zoom makes so many devices because they are "best" at different recording situations. There isn't one Zoom that rules them all, however, I the Zoom H5 checks all the boxes for my personal recording needs. I recommend the Zoom H5 for your situation. The H2 is meant more for live music recording.
unfortunately, if you cannot afford mics and a sound board, placing the Zoom H2N in front of your kit is your only option and you'll have to accept however it sounds. I've recorded my band's rehearsals with the H2N and it did an adequate job. But keep your expectations in perspective.
Much appreciated. Would I be correct in assuming that for a microphone placed inbetween 2 speakers (equal distance, no moving back and forth, each within 16 inches of the mic), the h2n would be ideal?
If you are in a quiet environment, that should be good. However, independent lav mics or condenser mics close to each speaker will give you better audio.
This video is ridiculously informative and you've done an awesome job. My question would be... What's better for recording drums in a room (preferably raw) a h2n or h4n? Because I could get a mic to go into my kick but I'll need the h4n for that won't I? Just wondering if it's worth it. Any thoughts? (PS. sorry I'm late to the party lol)
Thank you! For drums, it depends on what the end goal of the recording will be. If you're tracking for an album on a low budget, I would get the Zoom H6. You'll have four XLR inputs to mic the kick, snare, high hat, and maybe a tom. Then use the stereo module to record cymbals and room ambience. If you just want to record rehearsals, get the Zoom H2N. I used to record my band rehearsals with the H2N and it was simple and great quality. If you want something in the middle, then get the Zoom H5. It's the best all-purpose recorder Zoom makes. Don't get the H4N. It's too old.
I always use the H2N for concerts because it has 4 channels of audio instead of just 2 on the H1N. The sound quality is equal if you're only comparing 2 channels vs 2 channels of audio, but since the H2N has 4 channels, there is an advantage for live music.
Hi there, I am an opera singer and I am looking for a portable recording device that can stand high volumes within a concert setting for example with orchestra and voice singing over it AND also in a smaller room recording voice and piano. I can't really find good information about what is best for my situation, but I need something that does not distort the different qualities of the voice. I have found that some recorders only pick up the brightest sounds while losing the overtones that create more of a round fuller sound. I also find that the natural resonance of a room or concert hall can be lost. Would you have any suggestions as to which recording device would be best?
You are in a unique audio recording situation, where I don't think you'll find one device that will do everything you want at the quality you want. Having said that, you should try the Zoom H2N. If you have a bigger budget, you might also want to look into the Sony audio recorders. They are known for their very high quality, but equally high prices. The Sony PCM-D100 is currently their best product and the PCM-D10 is a smaller version, but will be released in mid-April of 2019.
Hey man, thanks for the review! Just a quick question. When you connect your Zoom H5 as an audio interface and plug your XLR mic in, have you experienced any issues? I hear some people say it does a terrible job as an audio interface. Thanks a lot in advance, keep it up!
I have not experienced negative issues with the Zoom H5 yet. There are a few factors to consider for optimal use as a DAW (digital audio workstation). First, make sure your computer is up to date with no bugs. I use only Apple computers and have not had any issues. Second, make sure your power connections are stable. Third, use good audio software (Cubase, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Garageband) and check your settings to the H5 within the software. Finally, the H5 is not an all purpose DAW that can record complex productions. Only simple things. I've never tried to use my H5 beyond two inputs with basic vocal, guitar, or keyboard recording. If you want something more complex, get a specific DAW.
Thanks for this video. I need a recorder for two purposes. 1. Recording my live music shows. where I use maximum of 4 instruments. 2. Recording of birds and animal sounds outdoor. Which one recorder will you recommend? H1N or H4 pro! Or anything else.
Is this Zoom H2N recorder appropriate for aquastic Recording purpose in Outdoor....?? Voice With all Rhythm n String Instruments in Aquastic mode Recording??
I'm assuming you mean "acoustic" -- yes, as long as you place the mic close enough, this is perfect for outdoor acoustic recording. You might also want to purchase a deadcat or fuzzy windscreen over the H2N mic. It picks up wind very easily and that will destroy your recording.
I don't use my Zoom H4n PRO much because of my type of video (TOY R/C Model Planes) where I need someone to figure a way for my Canon XA-30 or T5i to take my H4n PRO from pause to record and back to pause as I press the Record/Pause button on the camera. I have the Wired Remote for the H4n PRO but need the H4n PRO better synced with the Record/Pause of my camera as there many shots are very short 3 to 10 seconds and as many shots as 25 to 30 or more in a single flight. and can be of different aircraft. So you can see the synchronization of audio can be very time consuming if not at all impossible. Any help out there PLZ.
Yeah, the first Zoom models had terrible video sync issues. They are better now, but will still drift if you record long single take videos. If you want better sync, you'll have to upgrade to Zoom's top tier models.
For a solo artist, I would get the Zoom H5 and the Zoom H2N. The Zoom H5 is a great audio interface for your computer and also decent multitrack recorder. The Zoom H2N is perfect to record rehearsals, song ideas, and live performances easily. You can also use the Zoom H2N as a vocal mic to record directly into your computer. If you could only have one, I'd get the Zoom H5, but my Zoom H2N is the most used for me.
Thanks for a useful video. I wanted to ask you, we are going to start podcasting (in people's homes), and we will have two hosts and one interview object. I was planning to purchase the H6 and 3 lavalier mics (Rode). Do you think that's a good setup? Previously I've been recording with a Blue yeti directly connected to my mac. I didn't get good sound with that setup.
A Zoom H6 with 3 Lavs is an excellent low budget solution for podcasting in people's homes. If I'm not going directly into my laptop using a DAW, I use the Zoom F4 for podcast recording. If you want to step up your podcasting game, I'm reading great things about the Rodecaster Pro: www.rode.com/rodecasterpro
Hello, I hope you are well, I am between H1-N and H2-N. I want to record SFX sounds of things. I like the H1 for the size factor, but I'm in doubt if the H2 with its additional microphones can give me an extra in terms of sound quality or better presence. Could you give me a help. ?
For SFX sounds, the H2N is a better choice than the H1 or H1N, because of the surround sound mics. You're getting up to 4 mics instead of just 2, so that will give you more options depending on what SFX you are recording. For example, if you wanted to capture 360 degree ambient audio of a busy street or nature or the beach, you'll get more immersive representation of that location ambience using surround sound mics.
Not really a soundboard or traditional sound mixer. These are audio recorders that can be used independent of a mixer, but doesn't have the full control of a live mixer. For small low budget podcasts that are not live, the Zoom H5/H6 are pretty great. If you want a live podcast, you should probably step up to a proper mixer. The Rode RodeCaster looks amazing for $600 US.
Video Gizmology awesome thanks, that makes it a lot more clear. So for my podcast I plan on having a remote guest over the phone, would I be okay with using the Zoom H4?
Guests over the phone is really tricky. If I'm recording someone over the phone, I try to use Skype, Facetime, or some kind of voice calling app that I can use on my computer. I then use ScreenFlow to record the conversation. ScreenFlow is a desktop app that can record whatever video/audio is on your computer. You could use a Zoom H4, but unless you have an additional piece of gear that allows you to connect your phone to an XLR input, you're better off using a computer recording app and Skype or Google Chat or something like that.
If you have a mixer, you could just plug the phone into a channel and it will work. I did it in one of my podcasts, even though people say it shouldn't be done that way. Still works.@@bestbeats484
I am undecided between H2N / H4NPro / Shure VP83 / Azden SMX30 / RODE Stereo VideoMic shotgun. Which do you advice? I register events, excursions, dialogues and film my children. Thank you
Any of these Zooms can work for you. The H2N is best for live music recordings, table conference meetings, or any situation where you want to record ambient sound. You can use it for all the things you want to use it for, but music is what the H2N is best at.
H2N is better for vocals, especially opera, because you can use 4 channel surround sound and capture both the audio from the front mic capsules and the reverb from the back mic capsules to get a fuller audio experience. Then you can mix it in post or use it raw.
I want to record nature and everyday life sound in high quality to use in ableton. Which model would you prefer? Should be easy to handle and portable. The h5 looks good for me, or would the h4n be enough?
I recommend the H5, but if you're not going to use an external XLR mic, the Zoom H2N is just as good. But if you are going to use an XLR mic, the H5 is the best option.
I would either use a shotgun mic or lav mic for interviews. This requires you to purchase a separate mic and plug it into one of the Zoom recorders. If you want to use the Zoom's internal mics for an interview, you'll need to place the mic very close to your subject's mouth and be in a very quiet location. I use the Zoom H2N for interviews, but I plug in a lav mic into it.
Hi i'm not sure if you will see my comment, but, i'm planning to buy either this, or an sm57 mic +interface, or rode video mic. I will be using it to record slow piano music. Which one will be the best? I'm totally new to this and had no handy recorder before. Is the h1n that bad compared to h6? I'm only going to use it to record piano only in a small room setting.
You have a few options. The easiest is getting the Zoom H2N, putting it in 4 track surround mode and then placing the H2N on a boom stand and placing it in a good spot. The H1N is only a stereo track, so it's different from the H6. If you are just comparing the stereo from the H1N and the stereo from the H6, then they are very similar, but you have XLR channels on the H6, so you have options to add better mics and multitrack.
Had a H2N for years and it’s super portable, works outside and can double up as a digital mic - also has tuner. Will record ‘native’ in MId/Side if that’s your bag too.
what makes you so good is that you base what you say on experience not on reflection. most people would not even understand what I just said.
thank you

This is the link from Curtis Judd about the H4n and the H4n Pro.
Super helpful comparison video thanks so much 💚
I found my H6 screen started to turn white around the corners almost as soon as I bought it.
Such a shame.
Anyway, great review. Thanks!

H4N Pro is the business!
I will be recording Wind and Rain and Ocean and Rivers. I also have Roland CS-10EM binaural in ear microphones and want to use the recorder with those when I am walking in nature or even cities. Which zoom audio recorder would cover those uses best while providing the best recording? Thank you so much
Zoom H5 with a surround sound mic capsule. You'll have the most bang for you buck with the Zoom H5.
I think those are for podcast on the go or interview recording/journalism? Not very rugged, do not even have enough battery power?
For recording podcasts alone at home, do you recommend the h1n or the h2n? Is there a real jump of sound’s quality beetween those models? Thanks
Great review. Is there any built in Reverb for recording and acoustic act straight to video from the line out, therefore not wasting time in post.
Great overview of the Zoom recorders. Thanks for sharing.
I own all of them and more. I still have rhe origianl H4 from 2006 but its retired
Really digged the vid. Can you share a link of some concerts you recorded with the H5 ? Thanks!
Hi there, I’m starting an ASMR video. I’m using iphone X and thinking of getting the h1. Can you advise/help me please?
I don't know much about ASMR videos, but unless you have an ASMR microphone, the H1 won't give you the surround sound effect with it's onboard mics. Get the Zoom H2N as the cheapest way to get surround sound using onboard mics. Then you'll have to sync the audio with the iPhone X video in your video editor.
If you do have an ASMR microphone, the Zoom H1 and H2N, needs a 3.5 mini jack stereo plug.
Video Gizmology thanks alot!
@@VideoGizmology whats better if i want to also use for recording using Roland CS-10EM Binaural Microphones, the h2n or the h4n pro? the h4n pro doesnt seem like it would fit in the pocket as nice as the h2n.
you missed out the H4, which I use. Interested to know how it differs from the 4n.
The Zoom H4 was great when it came out, but that was almost 15 years ago. Nearly everything is better now than it was then. There is too much to list. The Zoom H4 came out the same year TH-cam was invented. Think about that.
The H4N Pro now has the same pre amp as the H5 and H6
Awesome. Good to know!
Really? Preamp and xlr inputs are the most important to me. I could go for it since I found it to be much cheaper to buy than H5 and H6.
Yea, it’s true
I have a Boya lapel mic and want to have a better sound for my tutorials. Currently, I was using a Yescool recorder and it's not working well with the mic and on its own, it makes weird sounds. So what device would you recommend? Was thinking h1 or h2
Can the h5 record both xlrs AND the stereo mic channels on the top when being used as a usb sound interface? On my h4n pro I have to choose between one or the other. Not both. Even though when It can so that fine when it's not being used as a usb interface. Also now that the F1 is out, how do you like that?
Yo man, huge thanks for this one! great info.
@@VideoGizmology thank you so much. Wasn't sure if h2n will be enough for live streaming. Read a mixed reviews.
Great explanation, Can you please tell me connect to connect ZoomH1n and Boya BY M1 lav mic to my smartphone so that I can record Audio and Video in together.
You can't do it on your phone. You would have to sync the audio and video after the fact on a computer.
Wow fantastic video, just what I need. Great work and thanks!
Thank you for the kind comment!
Hi, it's been a while... Is there an option to use direct in-line audio port in the H1N to record via audiocable electronic drums? Thanks
ZOOM:1
Zoom:2
Zoom: whats next?..hm 4?
Zoom:5
When you ZOOM sometimes you miss a beat.
I have a Q2n 4K, do I really need any of these? H2n for example?
Compared to ZoomH4n Pro - LCD display is smaller on H5?
Do you know if the H6 will do punch-in recording like the H4?
which one is best for home recording(voice) and outddoor ambience, interview, concert recording?
Home recording is Zoom H2N or Zoom H5. Same for outdoor. If you want XLR, you need the H5. But I've found the H2N to be the most useful for my needs.
Which is better for record without wind noise at high speed on a motorcycle? Zoom h4n pro, h5 or h2n? Always using a deadcat.
@@VideoGizmology thank you very much! that gives me a good feeling ...
wish you all the best for your channel - keep up the good work!
Hi, My purpose is the record the audio from the mixer/soundboard and also will use the other channel to record the crowd for live events. Could you recommend which one? Appreciate your input
A Zoom H5 or H6 would work for what you want to do.
Hello friend, I need some help if it is possible
I am a total beginner in audio domaine,
I have a Sennheiser Sennheiser MKE 40-EW and a Sennheiser MZA 900p
I don't know how to use them at all, I wanted to make them function with my phone by a trrs trs adapter from rode but it seems that it does not work, I don't know if the lavalier can work with a zoom h1 if I buy one or it needs something else to work ?
thank you by advance for your help :)
an h1n be enough to record weddings and attach it to a mixer ? Or I would need something better like a h4n pro or h5? And why? Thank you
H5, H6 and H4n _Pro_ have better, quieter preamps than the H1n. That means less hiss when you crank it.
Thanks for sharing. Simple, straightforward and clear.
Cool I was thinking to get the zoom h6
I do audio podcast where I interview a guest (locally and remotely) every week. Didn’t really get much clarity on which is the best. I’m interested in the H2 though. Can I achieve my interviewing goals with the H2 and still plug in my own lav mics?
Zoom makes so many devices because they are "best" at different recording situations. There isn't one Zoom that rules them all, however, I the Zoom H5 checks all the boxes for my personal recording needs. I recommend the Zoom H5 for your situation. The H2 is meant more for live music recording.
Hey! Great video 👍,
Can you pls tell which one will be better to record singing with piano, h2 or h4 ? Thanks
H2N is best for piano, just make sure your mic placement is good.
Just wondering, what would be the best for drumming, can't afford mics and sound board rip.
Zoom H2N. Put the mic in 4-channel mode, make sure your audio levels are good, and place it right in front of the drum set at eye level.
@@VideoGizmology cheers, but would that work for a very large drum kit, double bass, lots of cymbals...
unfortunately, if you cannot afford mics and a sound board, placing the Zoom H2N in front of your kit is your only option and you'll have to accept however it sounds. I've recorded my band's rehearsals with the H2N and it did an adequate job. But keep your expectations in perspective.
What is the longest effective recording distance for the H5?
Much appreciated. Would I be correct in assuming that for a microphone placed inbetween 2 speakers (equal distance, no moving back and forth, each within 16 inches of the mic), the h2n would be ideal?
If you are in a quiet environment, that should be good. However, independent lav mics or condenser mics close to each speaker will give you better audio.
Which do you recommend for audio recording fireworks? I setup and shoot professional displays and film from about 100 hundred yards away.
Get the Zoom H5, but you'll also want one or two directional shotgun mics that you can point in the air to capture better explosion audio.
@@VideoGizmology Thanks!
Nice review. Thank you for sharing your information.
which one of the H1n or H2n would you choose for concerts?? which one has better recording audio quality?
@@VideoGizmology Thanks for the insight! I will look into these options :)
Thank you for such a thorough reply. Really appreciate that. All the best to you, my friend.
Thanks for this video. I need a recorder for two purposes.
1. Recording my live music shows. where I use maximum of 4 instruments.
2. Recording of birds and animal sounds outdoor.
Which one recorder will you recommend? H1N or H4 pro! Or anything else.
Zoom H5 is the most versatile.
Recording for exhaust sound for the pure sound?
This is dumb. Take a single long video of everything, and sync the audio, and then make your shorter clips from there.
I have an original H2 and the clock is off, it doesn't sync well with my camcorders. I use it as an MP3 player.
Yeah, the first Zoom models had terrible video sync issues. They are better now, but will still drift if you record long single take videos. If you want better sync, you'll have to upgrade to Zoom's top tier models.
Hi can we use the H2N for general meeting recording for a Two person and the H2n in the middle of the desk?
Yes, the H2N has a stereo mode that will capture audio on two sides of the recorder. Perfect for two people in a sound controlled room.
If you are a recording artist and you want to record some covers
of a song, What is the best zoom to use?
For a solo artist, I would get the Zoom H5 and the Zoom H2N. The Zoom H5 is a great audio interface for your computer and also decent multitrack recorder. The Zoom H2N is perfect to record rehearsals, song ideas, and live performances easily. You can also use the Zoom H2N as a vocal mic to record directly into your computer. If you could only have one, I'd get the Zoom H5, but my Zoom H2N is the most used for me.
Video Gizmology Thank You, Do you have any tutorial video on YT on how to do some covers using Zoom?
Video Gizmology Thanks! The Rodecaster looks awesome! A rig for the future :)
Nice. Do all the XLRs put out phantom if required?
Yes
@@VideoGizmology 100% Grateful!!! I already have it with me, I received it today. After 2 days researching I bought H2-N. Now to enjoy. Thank you
Great review. Can I connect a L and R line out 1/4 to an H2 via a 1/4 to 1/8 cable.
I'm assuming you mean H2N and not H2. I've never done that, but you should be able to. There is a LINE IN 1/8 jack on the H2N.
For recording a podcast, does this play the role of a soundboard? I have no clue
Thank you
Zoom H1N or Zoom H5
@@VideoGizmology thank you, why you choose them? What do you think about h2n for my use?
Any of these Zooms can work for you. The H2N is best for live music recordings, table conference meetings, or any situation where you want to record ambient sound. You can use it for all the things you want to use it for, but music is what the H2N is best at.
@@VideoGizmology My intent is to revive what I'm recording, sounds included. In fact I also care about the surround question.

Excellent knowledgeable video.
which one would you propose for recording singing? ...but in very hight frequernces..like opera singing...
actually my budjet is between H1n and H2n...any proposals??
H2N is better for vocals, especially opera, because you can use 4 channel surround sound and capture both the audio from the front mic capsules and the reverb from the back mic capsules to get a fuller audio experience. Then you can mix it in post or use it raw.
if you buy the
Zoom EXH-6 Dual XLR/TRS Capsule for the h5 your cost is higher .
go with H6 and you are future proof for 329 or renew 300.00
I want to record nature and everyday life sound in high quality to use in ableton. Which model would you prefer? Should be easy to handle and portable. The h5 looks good for me, or would the h4n be enough?
I recommend the H5, but if you're not going to use an external XLR mic, the Zoom H2N is just as good. But if you are going to use an XLR mic, the H5 is the best option.
Video Gizmology thank you!
Thanks for the video, may you write to me again the name or brand of the batteries for the H1 please. Thanks
Eneloop.
Amazing video ! i would buy the h2n for interviews, what do you think?
