For the dolphin minigame just whistle for it from anywhere in the water, and then a second time from where ever you land. That'll get you up to the beam without fail.
20:45 The room is not rounded. It is a perspective effect. If you stand facing a straight road, you can see the front of an approaching car. When it passes you'll see the side, and when it recedes you'll see the back. The road is straight and the car has not turned.
A super random fact about FF7 is that Aerith was technically the default name all the way back in the PS1 era, just there was an error made in setting the "default" choice in the naming menu. If you skip naming her, she is automatically named Aerith.
6:00 I'm pretty sure the Magitek Facility in FF6 is a vent puzzle, or at least close enough. Arguably, the Castle of Ordeals in FF1 is a primitive vent puzzle.
I beat the game this way not so long ago, and accidentally discovered the "enemy does 7777 damage at more than 7777 HP" glitch while doing it, so it was definitely worth the time investment.
@@Xephrost_Gaming it's okay, your run is admirable in all other regards, tho it faces the same problems most other challenge runs in FF7 do. Game just isn't really that hard
I've been wanting to do a magic only run for a while now. The games so easy to me I need a bit of a challenge. Plus I can use this trick I don't think you mentioned or used. If you have multiple copies of one materia on one character and each one has a different support attached, they'll all be combined! You can have a quad magic, all and mp absorb on a fire materia!
Yeah, that's one of the more interesting mechanics. I didn't end up having multiple copies of any materia I was actually using, but being able to combine different support materia with the same magic is a really interesting effect of the materia system.
6:15 That's not a wrecked Sector 7. There is still a Sector of the city under construction. If I recall, it actually references that when you put in the Midgar Parts here, too.
Oh yeah. You are right. I think remake had a few lines about a section collapsing during construction. Not sure if that was in the original, but I'd guess that is what that section is.
@@Xephrost_Gaming I wasn't sure if it was a bit or not like the quips you throw in. Figured the worst it would be was I would be the guy who missed the joke
Looking forward to your FF8 magic only run! That game can actually get pretty tricky in parts ( If you don't card mod cheese it lol). A GF only run was also fun, if you ever decide to do a summons only.
There's actually a bug with Ultima + quadra magic, your game will just randomly crash. You can also beat Emerald with quadra + demi if you wanted some fun lol
my favorite materia combo in this game is sneak attack = ultima. start most fights with ultima and finish them quickly. or just do massive damage at first. or comet or whatever your favorite magic materia is
Yeah, I love the materia combos you can do in FF7. I think my only real critique of the system is that a lot of the interesting support materia are pretty late in the game. It would have been nice to pepper them in a bit earlier.
@@veghesther3204 Well thats too much. and im talking about for general use and getting past normal battles fast. im not gonna sit through knights of the round every single fight
Ahhh, FF7. The game i played through exactly once and then never again. I'm not sure what the reasoning for this is.(despite enjoying the materia system) Uhh, do i have anything even remotely interesting to say about this game? Let me check the logs here...*rigorous page flipping intensifies* Oh yes, i did beat both optional weapons using only Yuffie. So, there's that, i suppose.
The RNG manipulation to get the gold chocobo without racing is actually pretty easy, the hardest/most time consuming part would be catching the two chocobos needed. Though to be honest, HP-MP never seems useful, even if just using magic since 999 HP is asking to be easily killed.
Yeah, of the materia available, quadra magic was the only one I thought would be useful in this run. Otherwise I might have done chocobo breeding. Thankfully the glitch saved a good chunk of time
But you cant use limits, enemy skills or summons... I only ask because Berserk is a magic (follows the rules) that forces physical attacks (against the rules).
How many FF games DO you go to space in? I'm pretty sure it's four at the moment. 4, 7, 8, and 14. Unless we're counting the void as space, and then the number is 5. I could be forgetting things though.
I'm actually surprised you didn't try and get a Master Magic materia, or at least not mention it if you did. With the unpleasant amount of grinding you ended up having to do I thought for sure you would have had one
Most of the grinding I did was in the temple of the ancients, well before getting most magic materia, and right before sephiroth, against whom only a small number of spells would be useful. Despite doing a decent bit of grinding, I was actually still a fair bit away from having the materia needed. Also, the most important materia like contain, comet, ultima, needed to be split amongst the party. So losing those to get 1 master magic materia would have been detrimental to fighting the final boss.
Aren't you so Happy TH-cam reintroduced two back-to-back adds that both need skipped? I know I am and I'm definitely not looking for workarounds when I was perfectly happy to deal with single ads Edit: I guess if it means you get paid more I would be more okay with it but I doubt it
Adblock plus and Ublock origin. You can deactivate them with a single click each if you don't mind having the ads run, but they're a handy combo for when things get annoying.
I beg you that if you haven't played Final Fantasy Tactics, play it and show us on a challenge like this one... It's my favourite Final Fantasy and it's arguably the best narrative of the whole franchise...
I definitely need to include FFT in a series. It is easily one of my favorites. It just plays very slow (if they ever do put out a remake/remaster it will be a day one purchase for me).
I love this game so much, but it is the worst looking FF game of all. I really wish they would've stuck with the original plan to use the Chrono Trigger graphic style for the main levels and do polygons for the battle scenes. *sigh* at least it's been remade and looks stunning. Great video!
magic only FF7..... i see no real issues here. early game MP will be a huge pain in the ass though. so unless you over level like hell to have higher MP totals carry you till ethers are readily available while using tents/recovery spots A LOT, then MP is gonna be your major limiting factor. fave ff: 9. most played: 4/after years (god the psp version let me kill A LOT of time lol) "turned off encounters, which i will be doing a lot to save time" .... well that does take some challenge out, but i can also see that causing just as many issues, due lack of gil and such. "poison materia, completely useless in my next fight" it is a bit of a troll to give you a materia that is actively detrimental for you to use right before a boss. "enemy skill is not the magic command" ..... well that makes things much harder then. also, matra magic.... that has magic in it's name.... maybe??? no?? ok then. "the controls in this mini game are so bad" .... yeah.... thats kinda the issue with all the minigames in FF7 sadly.... "got the chocomog materia for... some reason" hey. mp and magic stats on summon materia are pretty solid. if you have useless slots, might be worth putting a summon in there. "life can miss. a few times" ...... well thats a depressing sentence lol "the poison.... is a lie" ..... that made me laugh way too hard. not much more to say, simple but effective run. good job!
"turned off encounters, which i will be doing a lot to save time" .... Being able to run from encounters means turning off encounters mostly just saves time, since I don't have to get into combat, run, repeat. Did I end up very underleveled in some sections... yes. "enemy skill is not the magic command" .... Part of the reason for this challenge was to incentivize me to use materia I normally don't. And Enemy Skill is just too strong so it makes a good number of materia irrelevant. Will I use enemy skill in a future series? I hope so. "got the chocomog materia for... some reason" .... Yeah, I did equip some materia I couldn't use at some points when I had free slots. The stat bumps are nice to have. "life can miss. a few times" ...... well thats a depressing sentence lol .... I have nothing to add here. I completely missed that double meaning and it gave me a good laugh.
Laughed to myself that the very 1st idea that tifa had to save the day was to basically "sell herself" to Corneo.... Not using magic.... Not using martial arts......to be fair, that way of fighting probably got her many victories for her to instantly want to run that plan >_>
So not only are you exclusively using the spirits of her dead ancestors, you wont even buy a 1 gil flower from here? You monster! Also you dont get bummed because Don didnt pick you. You would if he did.
"I'm fond of this game" is not a cold take, it's a reasonable one. I love this game but I throw side-eye at anyone who says it's the best FF or unironically call it their favorite (a running joke I have with my friend who does just this, so no hate).
FF7 IS my favorite! Haha. Though, I think my love for the game is heavily swayed by nostalgia. Life was really good to me back in those days. I still play FF7 once in a while. I'm extremely grateful this game exists.
Love the concept, but I had to stop when you turned off random encounters. I feel like that goes against the spirit of the challenge. Being able to pick and choose when you fight and to conserve MP for bosses makes it much much easier imo. using counter attack materia is also too cheesy. it's not magic, you're attacking.
I should have grabbed it, but forgot where it was/didn't look it up. The double growth materia are of limited use, because you get more AP across the board by just equipping weapons with more slots (a weapon with 7 slots will get more total ap then 3 slots with double). However, there were a few points where I was specifically trying to level specific materia (contain, mp plus, hp plus), which would have very much been helped by double growth.
For the dolphin minigame just whistle for it from anywhere in the water, and then a second time from where ever you land. That'll get you up to the beam without fail.
I really need to remember this for future playthroughs. That will save.... frankly more time than I'd like to admit.
20:45 The room is not rounded. It is a perspective effect.
If you stand facing a straight road, you can see the front of an approaching car. When it passes you'll see the side, and when it recedes you'll see the back.
The road is straight and the car has not turned.
That is probably more likely. I blame the madness. It was a very lengthy session of grinding.
"Magic only."
