      FFX is one of the few Final Fantasy games I actually beat as a kid. I went through the whole game, fought BFA and my aeons and was really heartbroken when Yuna and Tidus realized they couldn't be together.
      I have watched so many speedruns of this game and I still get choked up there at the end.
      I love this game. Thank you for doing this story summary.

      I kind of disagree there, because negative feelings are IIRC what cause unsent to turn into fiends, and Auron never seemed anywhere near knocking on that door. He's snarky, but not outright dark. I think his duty to Jecht and Braska was his true motivation. Yunalesca was just a symptom of a corrupt system he wanted to destroy.

    • @bethg9471
      @bethg9471 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought this. At first I didn't understand why he was so adamant about pushing Yuna to complete the pilgrimage when he knew what awaited her at the end. But when the truth was revealed about the final summoning it all made sense. Surely keeping his promise to his old friends was a big part of what kept him, but if that was all then he would've kept them from making the journey to try and prevent them from making what he knew was a pointless sacrifice. But he pushed them to make the journey because he believed that if they made the journey to the end and saw with their own eyes about the truth behind their parents' sacrifice (brusca and jecht's) just as he had, they would also turn on yevon and yunalesca and thus break the cycle of the endless pointless sacrifices. That was Auron's ultimate goal, because he tried to do it on his own and failed, but he couldn't move on until he saw to the end of it.

      Late reply, but there is a scene when Tidus talk to Yuna about his mother, and says that a reason he hates his dad is also because when his was around, his mother barely look at him. He even admits that his father cared about him at this moment. It's happening in a flashback where young Tidus ask his mother for attention, and his mother dismissed him, then Jecht says to her to go check him out

The rest is in Tidus’ head or in dreams and it’s already well established he hates him. Turns out I was just “excusing child abuse” and didn’t just have a different perspective to think about. Lol.

      Honestly, at the end of it all, it feels like jecht was trying to overcompensate tough love. Whether that was due in part to his wife being a bit negligent to his son is up to interpretation. I don't think jecht is the kind of person to read that much into things.

    • @aspiringvoiceactor645
      @aspiringvoiceactor645 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That high five at the end with his father was showing that he did his father proud. As we all know, his father was a victim of that corrupt system when he became the final aeon under Braska and the new Sin. It took a lot of bravery for Tidus and Yuna to completely demolish that system, even if it resulted in being traitors of Yevon and people attacking them. They didn't want any more people to perish in such a futile way.

      And the fayth were created to battle against sin, which started the tradition of summoners pilgramage. According to the game. Sin wasn't protecting anything it was only destroying and the fayth/aeons were an attempt to stop the calamity. The cycle would continue as long as summoners went on the pilgramage, gathered the aeons and would sacrifice themselves to call the final aeon to defeat sin. That's why when the fayth stop dreaming and are released from their vessels the cycle of sin must end as well, along with dream of the old Zanarkand they upheld. Because no final aeon means no new sin.

    The two most memorable moments for me when I first played FFX, was the kiss between Tidus and Yuna and the scene of them around the campfire before embarking through Zanarkand. The song during that whole cutscene of them in the water was too damn beautiful and the graphics was so romantic and touching to match the mood. It was a legit fairytale like scene for me.
    For the campfire scene ,I saw my brother start a playthrough and this is what caught my attention to the game. When I first got there, my whole thought process was, "I'm finally here! The scene that starts this story!" I was so overwhelmed with emotions to finally get to that point that I saw at the beginning. Because the music was what drew me into the game in the first place. And when I first saw the Heroine, Yuna, she was beautiful. I even ordered a cosplay of Yuna that I wear to conventions because she's still my first love for console games.

I cried then during the ending and i still cry now over 15 years later. i dont think any other game has ever had this impact and it goes to show how amazing the story, messages and symbols really are. My favourite part was the confrontation with Yunalesca before they fight her.
    When Yuna decided to bravely end the cycle of suffering setup to last forever instead of consenting to let it continue I fell in love who her. To live with your pain and be free instead of giving up, to do the things nobody else will; risking self-harm to free others in enslavement. That is the definition of valour. These characters should be our role models.
    There is something to eerily familiar about this scene, in some non-literal context I always felt it is representing a higher truth about our reality that our philosophies and religions have glimpsed at.

Gave up for awhile, then started a new game and realized I skipped the tutorial in the beginning. Once I figured that out, it was nothing but addiction to the game. What's even crazier is as much as I loved the story, I was having a blast playing Blitzball. 700 hours of game-time on my first save and 300 of it was blitz. Hands down my favorite FF and I can't wait to see what XVI gives us.

  • @Dragon_Lair

    Something unique to Final Fantasy X is that I don't think there has been any other FF game that had the main character also be a narrator.
    Speaking of Tidus, he's also a fairly unique Final Fantasy protagonist. He's not stoic, sullen or broody like Cloud or Leonheart, he's not a thief looking towards the horizon like Vaan or (I can't remember the protagonists name of IX). He's not royalty or anyone important like the Warrior of Light or Noctis. Tidus is just a somewhat spoiled sports player who is ripped from everything he knew and happens to fall into the company of the right group of people in order to save the world. Not being from their world, however, he asked questions that no one ever thought to ask because it never occurred to them that they were questions that needed asking, and he brings a perspective to the world and how it works that no one else has.
    The story is as beautiful as it is tragic. No matter what choice Yuna made it was going to end in tragedy. Whether it was her own life or the life of Tidus, someone was going to be sacrificed for the sake of Spira and bringing the calm.
    It's also amazing watching Tidus grow and develop from a whiny spoiled brat into a selfless hero, taking upon himself the weight of the world because he knows he will die when the fight is over, driven by bitterness and anger over his father. It's hard to say what his life would have turned out to be if Auron never came to Zanarkand to take care of him.

    I love the story from this game. All the little touches really add up. Like when Tidus realizes that the summoner dies after confronting sin, and he suddenly feels guilty for all the times he encouraged Yuna to complete her pilgrimage... such a good game. I've spent close to 300 hours on a few play throughs so far, and I can promise I'll play it again. Cannot promise I'll grind for the dark aeons again next time lol but we'll see.

    I hadn’t played this game until 2020 when I picked up the remastered version on Switch. The most memorable moment for me was when I ran into Valefor’s dark aeon accidentally while putting off beating the game. It was completely unexpected and it completely wipe the floor with me.
    From a story perspective, the moment that Tidus touches the wall of Fayth and goes to team Zanarkand. It was the moment for me when all the puzzle pieces finally began to fit together. Such a great game. In my top 5 favorite Final Fantasy titles. Possibly in my top 3.
