Before I get any comments. Yes, I should have been casting meltdown to inflict "Vit 0“. I foolishly assumed a status called "Vit 0" would only impact vitality. I know better now.
Ya know, you say something in your head as a small child and it just sticks in your head. I didn't even think about that being wrong until I was writing the script for this video and thought... that's not how you pronounce that is it?
I didn't even think about that until writing the script. And yeah, I should have caught that when playing World of Final Fantasy where they are voice acted. I've beaten that game twice and it just didn't click.
I love your sarcasm in your videos. It makes it so funny and enjoyable. I love Final Fantasy 8 so much. It's probably still my favorite Final Fantasy of all the ones I've played which is everyone except for 12 and 15 to the end multiple times. I love each of them in their own way. Ff13 Probably second in ffx following that.
FF8 is a very complicated mess of a game. There is a lot that works and feels really interesting about this entry. I think they made a lot of bold decisions in the game design. Some worked. Some did not.
When I first played FF8 I was not a fan. I hated that the enemies scaled with your level, because I tend to (personally) LIKE being over powered in games, and I have no issues grinding to get there. When I played the game for the second time however, with a bit more knowledge on how the mechanics worked... oh my the game is so incredibly broken its insane. Triple Triad grinding into Item grinding, getting Lion Heart on disk 1, and just going to town while keeping my characters levels as low as possible. This game is just silly broken. But I appreciate (for the challenge aspect) you wanting to bring your level up to make the bosses not just a straight joke. Overall I feel you handled this run quite well. Given how much filler this game has, I'm sure this took a bit to edit, and you did a good job!
Thanks! My normal playthrough strategy is likewise to game the system and break combat as much as possible. I had to do a lot more work that I expected to make this challenge... challenging.
SeeD is pronounced Seed because 1) Garden and 2) When Squall lies to the interrogator, he talks about planting flower seeds. Definitely seed. I have no clue why they capitalize the D.
I love that paramagic, the magic that is said to only exist to keep up with sorceresses, is still so unbelievably strong you can be set. I guess it demonstrates how magic is unbelievably strong.
I love FF8, but I also love any JRPG that just gives up on holding you back (see: Star Ocean 2). “Want to be gods amongst men right out the gate? Have at it, sickos!”
Also, if you ever replay this and are bored with the Raijin/Balamb quest, you can just quickly run back and forth between screens in front of the hotel and that’ll trigger him
In the scene with Laguna in Deling city, you can actually make him her up and walk over to the piano. You don't have to sit there until the music finishes. I don't think it ends the scene any faster, but it's a funny scene. He gets his leg cramp and wanders back in shame 😂. I think the anti magic field at the prison is actually in the cells? That would makr sense to me anyway. I've always pronounced the word as Seed ( because they come from gardens) but also never understood why they capitalized the D? Square always do funny things with words. Like how Ultimicia replaces the letter C with K.
That's hilarious. It does impact timing in the FF7 releases, so no idea why it wouldn't in 8 & 9. A bit embarrassing to me that I just fully did not notice for most of the game despite using speed up extensively.
The furthest I ever played in Final Fantasy VIII, as far as I remember, was to Seifer's buddies in Disc 2. I got completely walled and and just quit there because I didn't know what to do. Probably could've actually done proper junctioning to get over them, but I didn't really absorb that from the tutorials, I don't think. Well, that's what I THINK, but I also have absolutely no memory whatsoever of actually ever seeing NORG or the Garden taking flight. This video has left me actually quite confounded.
I feel like that's the other side of the junction issue coin. If you know what you are doing you can break it immediately. But also, it's a weird unintuitive system that can easily leave a player very confused.
Nah, The fistfight Squall had with the air trooper had me on the edge of my seat when i was a kid. when you say, oh it was "riveting" thats kinda messed up... coming from you.
FFVIII is certainly an experience. Feels weird seeing any of the final disc optional bosses, though I'm one of those sickos who skipped them and did the final boss at base level with only Squall's basic attack. That took some tries and strategizing.
I'd consider if the summons were more diverse in their effects. And yeah, the game really decides actually no, you can't summon any more here. But, might not be a bad idea for a series in other Final Fantasy games.
At start: Someone else did this, so I KNOW it's possible, but I am curious to see what strategies you come up with, especially in Ultemetia's palace where the only option you get initially that's magic-only friendly is counter attack.
Also surprised you didn't do 5 magic only (4 magic only requires cheating in mages at a few points, so naturally out, you DID 1 already during your mage runs, you DID 2 already, you DID 6 already, and after that black mage video -- congrats on muscle-ing your way through that horror show, BTW -- I FULLY understand why 3 was left out), but guess it was too similar to the mage videos you did earlier ( except easier with access to more stuff)
@@veghesther3204 even without rod spam there's PLENTY of strong spells throughout if you allow White, Black, and Blue magic, so yeah, it's probably too easy to be interesting.
~28:00 -- in the version I saw your rival play you can sneak past that dog by clipping partially into the stairs and then fight the iron giant instead which is beatable (in literal hours -- but not 100%) using counter and auto regen (as well as some other shenanygance I've already forgotten). Though you may have broken the rules anyways if do-able in this version (your rival may have been using a different version, so that may be why the difference -- e.g. PS original vs steam or 98 PC version vs remastered, etc...) because of the literal hours it takes to beat him and more then a few attempts...
Interesting. I didn't know about a way to bypass Sphinxara. I may need to look that up and see if it's possible in the Switch version (which is what I played). I don't generally feel too bad about breaking a challenge if there is NO alternative, but I do prefer not to. If you can bypass the first boss, counter/reflect/etc. could do it.
@@veghesther3204 Yeah, but an FF5 magic only run allows you to master all the mage classes, so the issues with the WM shouldn't be an issue, but yeah, I've tried the solo white mage, it's not very fun in FFV. Four white mages will be much more do-able, but still is very close to "root canal without anasthetic" on the old fun-o-meter. (I can confirm, with the exception of the dragon flower that hard walled me, it IS doable till third world when you get better options -- with possible holy staff breaking shenanygance against x-death -- but STILL not any fun)
I wonder if this challenge would be possible without junctioning spells to stats and without support abilities like HP+20%, HP+80%, etc. Of course, limit breaks wouldn't be allowed. So far, I haven't seen anyone do it on TH-cam. I don't think it would be too difficult either, except for the last battle, where Gryphus' shockwave pulsar and Ultimecia's apocalypse could be very problematic.
Yeah that might be an interesting twist. It WOULD further incentivize not leveling up, but starting stats aren't super high, so it might still be more interesting.
I did this run, I killed squall and Zell and got seifer to 99, the draw already had very powerfull spells then I got all the needed cards before entering the train was not hard
*reads title* oh it's super easy. hell, with a bit of Seifer exploiting, you can run around with Ga spells and similar level stuff, while having the overall level of characters still be under 10. then there is the card game/refinery and all balance goes down the toilet. but dear god i DETEST what they did to the triad cards. compare them with the PS1 versions, the remaster ones looks extremely cheap and lazy. makes me wonder if they lost the files and couldnt be arsed to actually try remaking them. only hiccup will be that function is taken away from you at ulti's castle. time for me to be a know it all fckwad in the comments again. "but for reasons unclear to me, doesnt speed up any ingame timers" cause they're based on the game time clock you see in the menu, which runs on an internal clock that the speed up function doesnt affect, rather than game frame data (like angelo search which is based on step data, which obviously is affected by speed boost) so what does this mean? it means i far and away beat all WR's on ff7,8 and 9 speed running the games glitchless and makes all but two timed sequences much easier (the two it makes harder is the train mission in 8 cause of the increased movement of the soldiers and in FF9 where frog cid has to play red light green light with some annoying red monster) "is it Seed?" yup. seed. as in the thing you shove into the ground, in like a garden, to make plants. there are theories that say it's an acronym for "sorceress eradication elite devision" or some such. but i think they just wanted seeds and gardens and the growing/blooming metaphors without being too hamfisted. "night and day difference" the graphic bumps from 7-8-9 are astounding. you can feel FF7 was made for a previous gen console before being ported to the playstation (it was originally meant for the snes/N64, but due to issues with developement with hardware and playstation having CD's which were just better they jumped ship. worth it) hit Diablos with blind. he now cannot kill any of you, unless you are REALLY unlucky. "should, in theory, bring the game more in balance" ...... well, as long as you never use meteor then should be somewhat balanced i guess....... "and then triple casting meteor, get used to that" and there goes the balance again. out the window like the sanity of this game's story. nice run. even added more challenge to it than you needed to with leveling up and all that. good job
I completely forgot you could inflict darkness of Diablos. Oh well, I'd get a lot less comment engagement if I knew what I was doing. And yeah, I had to work a lot harder than normal to make this game... balanced in any way at all.

@@julioflores5946 Vit 0 actually drops both vitality and spirit. So it will increase the physical and magic damage you do to enemies.
TBH I like the "non cheese" way of not using meltdown and doing it the way you did :) No harm, you did a magic only+ run!
I always called them "Seed" because they are in a Garden after all. Lol
Same. I'm not going to lie, it kind of makes me cringe hearing See-Dee like some time traveler trying to say CD.
